Guest Reviews
- littlecheeky (10/5): Wonderful work trip - Fantastic experience at the hotel. Booked a work trip for 23 people, lots of backwards and forwards, great communication and attention to detail. Breakfast delicious too. Thank you Abbie and Ellie in particular. Can highly recommend for work or pleasure.
- Classicmininutter (2/5): Not a boutique Hotel - an entertainment venue hosting hundreds - We have just returned home after an overnight stay at the Saint Paul’s house Hotel. To say we are unhappy is a massive understatement. We were expecting to stay in a boutique hotel with the facilities mentioned in their website. Instead we arrived at 3 pm to a scene of an incredibly loud music event taking place in the hotel. The reception area had been stripped out and was full of hundreds of people having a good time. Don’t get me wrong I’m not unhappy with people having a good time, but we were totally unaware that our hotel that we had booked would be given over to this event during our stay.
When we arrived, we discovered that the hotel car park had been closed for the event, so we were unable to park our car there. Outside there were parking meters, but the maximum wait time was two hours. In addition there were huge numbers of vehicles arriving and departing dropping people off and picking people up. We dropped off our luggage and I drove off to find parking, which was fortunately not very far away.
On entering the building, we passed through security who were checking tickets, but we were allowed through when they realised we had booked to stay at the hotel. We found that reception consisted of a counter where people were also dropping off their coats at the cloakroom. We checked in with difficulty because it was almost impossible to hold a conversation due to the very loud music. Eventually though, we got our room key and and proceeded to our room on the second floor. Fortunately, a member of staff offered to take our suitcases to our room. This was fortuitous, as the lift was out of order and had been out of order apparently for some considerable time.
Our hotel room was a good size and well decorated. The design incorporated a sliding door to the bathroom, which did not offer complete privacy. The windows were ill fitting allowing draughts to enter the room, but more importantly the sounds from outside. The guests from the event arriving and leaving were quite noisy, and combined with the sounds of the vehicles, made our stay less than peaceful. Although the event finished at 8 pm, The lounge area and bar area were not cleared or set out as a hotel area, and music continued to be played at quite loud volume.
On the plus side in the Mini bar, we were told that the drinks were complimentary. We discovered water, orange juice and two individual bottles of Prosecco, which we enjoyed. Thank you for that.
When we went to bed, we discovered that the mattress was incredibly uncomfortable, and the movement of one person in the bed led to an equal and opposite movement for the other occupant of the bed. The mattress must be one of the cheapest mattresses available. Together with the noise from outside, our night sleep was very poor indeed.
In the morning, when we decided to have a cup of coffee, we discovered that there was only a couple of decaffeinated teabags available. By now we were so unhappy that we simply wanted to check out and get away as quickly as possible, and to try to forget this unhappy experience.
We note that in the Tripadvisor reviews, many of the reviews talk about the meals that have been had at the hotel. Few of the reviews are about the actual rooms and the hotel experience. Many of the reviews mention a lady called Abby who must clearly have been known to the people leaving the comments.
We paid a very significant sum of money for our overnight stay. We feel that the hotel should have contacted us before we arrived to let us know that the hotel public areas had been given over to a very loud music event with hundreds of people in attendance. Had we known, we would definitely have cancelled and rebooked somewhere else. We believe that we have not received good value or good service or the advertised Service on which our booking was based. When we checked out, the member of staff asked us if we enjoyed our stay. I had to say, most politely that we had not enjoyed our stay and were quite unhappy. He offered us complimentary breakfast, but by then we were so disillusioned that we turned down the offer and simply left.
- Clamp88 (6/5): Disappointed - Went for Sunday Roast overall disappointed with everything from the welcome to the waiting staff and the food. Wouldnt recommend. Bar staff were happier and friendly. Overall venue is tired and needs a good makeover and good clean. Toilets werent very clean and fresh !!
- tracyeQ9743NS (10/5): Chefs Table - A fantastic Chef’s Table experience from start to finish. The tasting course was excellent, and the wine pairing was a real highlight. The pianist playing throughout the evening was a lovely touch and created a wonderful atmosphere. Being given homemade chocolates to take home was such a thoughtful extra and they were delicious. An unforgettable evening, highly recommended.
- emmajaynee2023 (10/5): Fantastic food with quick service from a great server, Shivali! Would reccomend! - Lovely venue with an amazing server, Shivali. Food was fantastic, really filling with lovely drinks, quick service! Would recommend
- PaulineBowden (10/5): Always a great experience! - Went with family for lunch on New Year’s Eve and we were looked after by Shivali. The atmosphere in Saint Paul’s is always lovely - relaxed, good background music and excellent service. Food is always lovely - we have eaten here many times - breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails - and always faultless. Can highly recommend the fish and chips! Thanks to Shivali for providing such a good service and making it such an enjoyable occasion. See you again soon!
- Julia03smerdon (10/5): Amazing... - I attended a wedding at St Paul’s House on Tuesday and we had the most wonderful time from beginning to end. The service was of an exceptionally high standard, and I truly couldn’t recommend this venue enough.
The staff were brilliant and everything from the food and drinks to the cocktail selection was absolutely delicious. A big thank you to all the staff for making it such an amazing wedding.
Just flawless and perfection all round!
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Thank you.
- maureencG4709PU (10/5): Great place to stay in Birmingham - We stayed at the hotel because of a family wedding there, from the moment we arrived Abbey was very attentive & very welcoming nothing was too much trouble, The room was lovely & great shower, comfy bed. Food in hotel that evening was great I would highly recommend it & Jodie who served us was so friendly. The wedding was next day, super venue for anyone looking to have a special occasion & the staff worked so hard to prepare everything so it was perfect for the happy couple. We will definitely be back when we visit again.
Pete & Maureen Devon.
- P_Rowberry (6/5): Food and bar good. Hotel only so so. - We stayed at St Paul’s House for 1 night and came away feeling a bit disappointed with our experience overall.
On the positives, the breakfast was really good, and the bar area is also great - stylish and with a nice atmosphere.
As for the hotel, the rooms are starting to look tired and worn. In our room there were hairline cracks in the walls, peeling paint and visible damage to some areas, as well as a tear along the edge of the bed linen. The room itself was a good size though and would easily accommodate a king-size bed, but for some reason they had only opted for a standard double which made the room feel a bit sparse.
Soundproofing is poor. Noise from people in the corridors carries very easily, and the single-glazed windows let in a lot of road noise as well as voices from outside the bar, even from a second floor room. The room also felt quite drafty.
Another disappointment was a lack of foresight at check-in. The receptionist told us only around four rooms were in use, yet we were initially placed in a first-floor room directly overlooking the area hosting a wedding reception that evening. When we returned to our room later it was extremely loud and not suitable for sleeping in. To be fair, reception handled this well and moved us promptly to another room on the second floor on the opposite side of the hotel, where we couldn’t hear the party (though we had road noise instead).
At breakfast the next morning there was some confusion initially, as staff were setting up for another wedding and didn’t think breakfast was being served that day. We did end up with a very nice breakfast, but it was a bit odd eating while the room was being set up around us.
Overall, some nice elements, particularly the food and bar, but the rooms, noise issues and organisation let the experience down. We’d return for a night out, but not to stay overnight - there are better hotels at a similar price.
- Annthesinger (6/5): Rooms need an upgrade for the money - Nice room, though bed very low. Lifts haven't worked for some time.
Wi-fi password didn't work.
Air con unit buzzing outside the bedroom window.
Tried to eat in the bar, but what we wanted not available. What we had was nice, though no cutlery or sauces offered, and no check back. Tables not cleared.
Very noisy pub.
would not stay again.
- 270leenh (10/5): Lovely - Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful food.
Where there were issues these were complimented with a bill adjustment by a lovely male manager and an exceptional waitress Monique who represents herself and the establishment in a professional, warm and friendly manner making the dinning experience one you will what to return to
- justinbW3481FR (10/5): November Drinks - The waiter Amaan, was very polite and professional, the line pianist and music was great. I would highly recommend the brunch to friends.
- G5075TVjohnb (10/5): Sunday roast with family - Sunday roast with family. Arrived around 2pm and stayed until 4pm. Good atmosphere, not too loud but not quiet either. Delicious food and prompt, friendly service.
- timpC246VP (10/5): Shivali was AMAZING, great service and drinks - Delicious Sunday roast with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Shivali was incredibly attentive, polite, and made the experience exceptional from start to finish. Highly recommend!
- gemmasQ452VF (8/5): Great atmosphere and experience - Great atmosphere, quick service, great drinks and food was really tasty! Would highly recommend if you want good food and or drinks with a fun atmosphere!
- jordanwY2517FK (10/5): Amazing service from Abbie - Excellent service from Abbie the receptionist. Brilliant personality and ability to have a laugh. Went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing time
- joshsV1519EV (10/5): Wonderful family trip - What a wonderful hotel, bar and restaurant. Abbie was exceptional on front of house. Likewise, she went above and beyond when our liccle babies Deccy and Louise had an accident. Thanks for the spare nappies and baby rattles. We had our first dry night in months! A credit to the place and very understanding, especially when grandad slept in! Thanks for a wonderful family holiday.
- Z7723YQbenh (10/5): Great place - Great place, great food, great atmosphere. Polite staff. Abby was brilliant. Friendly, chatty and always happy to help. Big thumbs up for Abby
- matthewlC5832PJ (10/5): Excellent service from - I had a wonderful experience thanks to the hotel receptionist Abbie. From the moment I arrived, they were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and professional. They patiently answered all my questions, helped me with check-in quickly, and even offered great local recommendations. When I needed assistance during my stay, they went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of promptly. Their friendly attitude and willingness to help made my visit smooth and stress-free. Truly outstanding service!
- 235declanc (10/5): Excellent - Abbie is one of the best workers I’ve come across in my time. Having worked in hospitality for 20 years I would employ Abbie in every single one of my restaurants. One of the best I’ve seen in the game.
- Hillstravels (8/5): Another great stay - I stay here for work one week every month. Really friendly and safe! Abbie is great, always sorts out anything I need and I had a free room upgrade this time so thank you! As well as tea and coffee you get cold water, orange juice a little bottle of Prosecco in your fridge, all complimentary, which is a nice touch. Food here good too. Only feedback would be rooms are in need of updating but I am always happy to stay here. Central location too!
- S9953IEphilb (10/5): Trendy friendly Brum vibe with Abbie - Friendly, relaxed, good vibe, nice decor in rooms, Brum culture vibe in the common areas, receptionist Abbie extremely helpful and makes one feel at home
- lucytQ1066YR (10/5): Lovely place - Stopped by the restaurant at Hotel St Paul’s for a tea break and some cocktails — such a lovely place with a relaxed, elegant atmosphere. The service was excellent, and a big thanks to Wiktor for being so welcoming and attentive. A perfect little spot to unwind — highly recommend!
- danieltP8928WE (10/5): Sunday Funday - Nice brunch with friends.
Raj was especially helpful and friendly.
Thanks again for nice time.
See you next time
What is time
- X9900KPchrisc (10/5): St Paul’s house - Big Raj kept it flowing .. respect, best service and brunch in Birmingham , thanks will be back no questions asked… also gravy, too much
- markiR6460FE (10/5): Bottomless roast - Amazing service, great food. Couldn't fault it at all. Monique was especially attentive with the drinks. Would come again
- Cruiser64672431412 (10/5): 2 people dinning. Philly cheese steak ciabatta and my mate had a burger. - Sabbir was excellent. Good fun, got my 2nd beer quicker than I could drink my first. The place is busy, beer is good, seated quickly
- donnyb988 (10/5): Na - Had a good experience, thank you Sabbir.

- ambyrs2025 (10/5): My favourite hotel, my favourite server. - We come annually to Saint Paul’s House and today was the first time we’d met Wiktor, we were absolutely blown away by the outstanding service, my new favourite server. From the moment we were seated, he went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and looked after. He was attentive without being intrusive, incredibly friendly, and had an impressive knowledge of the menu.
What really stood out was the genuine care he showed throughout the afternoon. Every detail was thought of, and he made the whole experience feel personal and special. You can tell he takes pride in his work and truly enjoys making guests happy.
Wiktor is a credit to the hotel, bar and restaurant. The type of guy you’d love to work with, and go on a night out with. Thank you, Wiktor, for making our visit so enjoyable!
- Y7910BRadams (10/5): Wiktor Steals the Show - This place has a lovely warm atmosphere. The food is excellent, and our waiter, Wiktor, was charming, attentive, friendly and funny. He made our visit feel special.
- Edward (10/5): - A gem in the middle of the celebrated Jewellery Quarter. The staff were absolutely charming and the rooms well-appointed and pleasingly contemporary.
- llou1573 (4/5): Don’t waste your money - Popped in for a drink, I used to live in St Paul’s Square so this was a place I have visited regularly.
Service was extremely poor. The lady who served us looked utterly miserable and sullen. No care or attention made preparing my cocktail.
We sat down at a table where there were still remains of the previous customer and the table next to us had a congealed plate of food sat there and was there for the near 40 mins we were there.
The staff were too busy chatting amongst themselves rather than clearing or cleaning tables.
The ladies toilets drunk of stale urine, one toilet broken, no hand soap in one of the dispensers and nobody had checked the bathroom for a while.
Also three aggressively loud men at the bar, knocking back shots and shouting abusive language, they were not asked to quieten down, the staff just ignored the behaviour, I felt they did not have the experience to deal with the situation.
Wouldn’t return again, it’s really fallen as a venue.
- so6983 (6/5): Disappointing - Visited for a pre show drink on a Sunday afternoon.
Toilets were filthy and hadn’t been checked according to the Check sheet on the wall.
Drinks were served by a sullen barmaid and terribly presented.
Though the place was quiet and had a group of 4 staff hanging around chatting, there were tables with old food sitting there. One was eventually cleared but during the next 15 minutes before we left the big gravy blobs from the Sunday lunch weren’t wiped so the table was still unusable.
3 drunken men at the bar were shouting profanities loudly for much of the 45 minute visit. During this time the bar staff continued to serve them shots and other drinks despite them being clearly drunk. A breach of licensing regulations.
This place used to be great and I’ve previously reviewed it highly.
The owners need to review their ‘management’ staff in my humble opinion.
- Anthony (10/5): - Lovely hotel, very nice room and great food for breakfast. Service at the desk and bar was excellent.
- BobHughes1 (10/5): Saint Paul's House - a centre of excellence in Birmingham - I have stayed at Saint Paul's House now quite a few times. The staff are vey helpful, I was booked in by Ellie and when I left I was booked out with Mymean, The level of service is superb all all the staff I came into contact with were very helpful, this hotel is a great place to stay in Birmingham and very highly recommended.
- Jasbir (4/5): Would not return - Premier Inn would have been much better. Poor experience here with service, amenities and comfort.
- Josephine (8/5): - Good location for city centre and on a quiet square. Staff friendly and welcoming. For some reason ,not sure why we were put in an accessible room in the first floor The left was out of order so dont know how a disabled person would access it.The knob on the shower was very stiff so a dosabled person with restricted hand strength would have struggled. The toilet cystern was not attached to the wall so moved. The house keeping didnt do a good job of dusting at height. Also the hotel is frugal with the amount of tea and coffee it leaves in the room. Having said which we didnt ask for more so it may have been our fault. The mattress was not the most comfortable.
- Matthew (8/5): One night stay - Handy for central Birmingham, clean and modern rooms and plenty of parking options. Nice touch of complimentary water, prosecco and orange juice in the fridge.
Easy drop off of luggage and late check in worked well
- James (10/5): Amazing find - Lovely hotel
Very busy on a Saturday.
Security at night - gentleman-was a very nice, friendly doorman. Credit to hotel.
Bar/waiting staff in the afternoon were extremely busy but were very professional and calm all the way through service. Credit to the hotel.
Decor was stunning, the outside as it turns dark especially. Picture perfect.
There is a lot of effort taken to keep this hotel/bar/restaurant to the standard it is.
- Derek (8/5): - Enjoyed my stay at St Paul’s House. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Very good menu choice for lunch or dinner.
- Petra (8/5): - This wasnt my first time here. I love the atmosphere and staff, they're all so accommodating. It's my go to venue when I'm working in the area. The room was a lovely size, iron, hairdryer etc and lovely drinks in the fridge. I knocked a star off because of a few things....the bed is way too hard for me, but that's just me. The blind wouldn't roll back up because the cord had come off the roller. The window wouldn't stay open(hot weather whilst visiting) and the air conditioning didn't do anything. My room didn't get refreshed whilst i stayed despite leaving a sign on the door handle, though the evening staff were lovely and brought more coffee and milk to my room for me. I was told a refurb is planned, so with this in mind, the little issues wouldn't put me off staying again. The food i had was absolutely gorgeous too. I love the place and look forward to staying again once it's had a refresh.
- Catherine (10/5): - Love St Paul’s house
- C1332ZFannem (10/5): Fabulous - Amazing stay in St Paul’s. Beautiful location and Abbie made the stay so special for us. She went above and beyond and looked after us so well and gave us great advice. Will definitely be back.
- Tourist02123130139 (4/5): Average to poor - I’ve stayed here quite a few times over the last 3 years , due to its convenient location BUT the lift has been out of order all that time !! Which in a tall building 1st floor is 2 flights up , which with a work bag and a main luggage is a lot. Also the car park is now £21 paid via an irritating app, and generally the place int well maintained ( see enclosed pic of the mould in the shower ) I won’t be staying again.
- kettylemary54 (6/5): Noisy hotel - Very noisy hotel and run down, pillows very uncomfortable.
Although thought value for money you have to pay another 21 to park for the night.
Staff are helpful but would not return as second time experience noise, first being above the bar, second on the road. Lift not working
- David (10/5): - Friendly staff. Nice clean room. Lovely touch with the complimentary drinks in the room.
A little noisy at night from the bar downstairs but not much of an inconvenience really
- Hagley-ite (4/5): Really Poor Experience - Have been here for coffee/ drinks etc but first time staying over. Not cheap at c£170 per room.
Was waiting ages to check in as nobody was on the desk. Then came downstairs to get a drink at the bar. Preferred two for myself because it so long to get served and didn’t want to wait again. Came to breakfast and was in a hurry. So ordered a bowl of granola and yogurt. 15 minutes later it still hadn’t arrived and there was only one couple in the restaurant in total and were there before me. So gave up and left.
Rooms were quirky but underwhelming.
My advice is meet friends there etc but stopping over is probably not worth the money. Really poor experience. I expected better for the price.
- Celine (6/5): - I read the reviews so was aware of the lift not working (still not working) and the noise from air con unit outside. The windows were single pane I think so it is quite noisy. Cleanliness was ok but not great. Staff could have been friendlier. Food was good in the restaurant downstairs. Also when we returned to the room at 10 we couldn’t get back into our room even though checkout was at 11. Overall an average place to stay- but expensive considering!
- Michael (8/5): - Great 2 night stay while visiting Birmingham Jewellery Quarter and beyond - during a July heatwave (!). Great base from which to explore.
Comfortable front-facing double room overlooking leafy Saint Paul's Square.
Our first floor room was not directly above the bar, so no excessive noise from below on a busy Saturday night, other than the chatter of late night customers sat outside through our open window.
Minus points: Extract fan in shower room was not working (slightly musty smell initially), and we couldn't work out how to turn on the TV. We reported these when we checked out - friendly staff seemed grateful for the heads-up. These were not major issues and didn't spoil our stay.
Would certainly consider staying here again when we next come to Brum.
- Gursh (8/5): - Perfect for a brief stay
Only downside was noice which kept me up til 1am
- Jeremy (6/5): - Very overpriced with faulty lift, broken lock on room door and ridiculously loud music in the bar until past midnight.
- Cheryl (10/5): - I loved everything about this property. I was traveling solo but the atmosphere is safe. The food and drinks are the best. The cleanliness of the hotel is attributed by the cleaning staff who work above and beyond to keep the hotel clean. The entire staff are exceptional who make sure all of your needs are met. Not good with names ,but the manager I believe Chris is his name runs that hotel efficiently and is an inspiration to his staff. The female supervisor holds her own during her shift. Excellent worker. Victor is my favorite with his pleasant no nonsense approach which is so pleasing and different. He goes out of his way to make your stay a joy. And he makes the best margarita. Lol I had such a good time. Thank you all
- John (8/5): - Excellent staff and hotel
The only downside to our stay was the loud music
Parties are held downstairs in the bar area until midnight being a hotel I was hoping for a more relaxed hotel with background music at an acceptable level
- Paul (8/5): - Stayed in a standard room for a single night as we were in Birmingham for a family event. Room was perfectly good for just the one night, but great that we could park on site and location is perfect both for the city centre and for the Jewellery Quarter. Bar and restaurant area looked very nice though sadly our timings meant we weren't able to eat at the hotel on this occasion.
- amandajb_9 (4/5): Don’t get a room at the front of you expect to sleep too noisy - This is a predominantly a bar and restaurant with rooms above. The rooms at the front of the building have outdoor tables which are used and v noisy til 1am directly below with single glazed windows making sleeping extremely difficult. The ‘hotel’ prioritises the bar activity over the hotel so while they are well aware of this as an issue they merely apologise repeatedly and do nothing to address it such as restricting use til 11pm or even midnight.
The location is good and the rooms are fine but this disregard for hotel guests is just wrong.
- Anthony (10/5): Great Visit - I arrived at this location for work, and the temperature was exceedingly high. Consequently, I was satisfied to discover that the room was equipped with air conditioning.
Good location close to alot of ammenities and where I was working.
- Sandra (6/5): - Adequate for an over night stop, clean and tidy but no tea/coffee making equipment, no tv remote to be able to use tv.
Staff all pleasant and polite.
- Laura (8/5): - Good location.
- Rachel (10/5): - The bed was very comfortable and room spacious and airy. The stay was enjoyable and memorable with friendly staff who provided an outstanding service, I got an upgraded room and they even providing an extra early breakfast for me as I was an early checkout. It’s a city centre bar hotel so obviously it gets a bit noisy! But with this comes the personable experience you don’t get with chain hotels. Bring your ear plugs if it bothers you! I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.
- Leigh (10/5): - Clean room, with a good shower. Pretty much all i want from a single night stay. Breakfast was very good and reasonably priced.
- Jamaal (10/5): - Really like to thank the reception staff for their time and great customer service! Always a pleasure
- jacquiec2024 (6/5): Fur coat and no........ - On first impressions from the outside. We couldn't wait to check in.
The lounge/bar area looked welcoming.
It went downhill quickly after check in.
We weren't informed of the broken lift.
Seems to be a long standing issue to!!!
Our room was on the 2nd floor.
4 flights of stairs.
The room was not 'boutique'
The bathroom was!
Annoyances.
2 bathrobes with 1 belt.
Plug in sink immovable
Hairdryer connector didn't fit dryer.
Left bedside cabinets bottom fell off on its own.
No back on TV remote.
We brought this to to the attention at reception when we left and on an email via their review page.
The breakfast was a shambles.
Very little in the pastry department.
Small segments of pineapple and melon.
No tongues to pick any of the foods up with.
No sideplates
No cups never mind saucers.
Eaten food left on the table that the breakfast was presented on.
We had to ask several times for the items above.
They need a staff member to replenish breakfast items
There was one person taking orders for breakfast who was less than effective.
- J (6/5): All fur coat - Bedroom cabinet door fell off. Hair dryer attachment was for a different item. Bath robe had no fastener. Sink lug got stuck. Lift was out of order but wasn’t told. Tv remote had no back. Breakfast was greedy.
- David (6/5): - I would describe this property as a large industrial chic bar with rooms above. It is nicely situated on St Paul’s Square, perhaps the only pleasant part of Birmingham city. We ordered food, just a sandwich with fries, which hadn’t arrived after 45 minutes. I enquired at the bar as to its whereabouts and it eventually arrived after a hour wait, plates just put on the table - no apoplogy, no cutlery and no offer of condiments. The room was pleasantly furnished, blending style wise with the bar area. Getting into bed tired after a concert we didn’t check the bedding, my wife felt what seemed like crumbs; it was littered with white hard granules all over the bottom sheet. Too late to do anything we slept on the duvet cover which was ok but we did get a little chilly in the night. I can only think that the bedding has not been changed from the previous guests.
- Stefania (8/5): - Room was clean and spacious. Bed and pillows - very comfortable. Shower pressure good. Service was fantastic. Atmosphere in Lobby was really nice and the food was delicious. Great venue that I would recommend.
- Emma (6/5): - Parking and check in was fine. Noisy reception area couldn't hear what was being said.
Room small but with good amenities, was a layer of dust on the kettle tho.
Arrived back at hotel at 11.45 dance music and shouting was booming outside the window until 1pm, so no chance of an early night. Curtain didn't keep the early light out so again no sleep!!
- Inga (8/5): - Nice atmosphere, nice to hear / see the piano being played.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely overnight stay, we were kindly upgraded to a bigger room which was appreciated. The location was great, but there is a pub within the location and there was quite a bit of noise late into the night.
- charlotte (6/5): - Lovely room, clean, great facilities, lovely restaurant/bar, staff friendly but let down by the fact the bed was very uncomfortable and my shower was luke warm
- P (6/5): - We have stayed at this hotel quite a few times when visiting Birmingham, The Bar is lovely and great for an afternoon of unwinding.
The hotel rooms are good and bed comfy. We have also stayed for breakfast which is also great.
The two things this hotel really needs to improve on is customer service. The person who checked us in did not say a word. No How are you today, have you travelled far, is there anything we can do... Literally nothing, handed us a key and pointed towards the door to the stairs.. The people checking in before us also said the same thing when we saw them in the bar later.
The biggest issue I have with this hotel and it was the same last time we stayed is the housekeeping staff. Whilst the extremely strict policy of 3pm check in is adhered to, the same should apply to the check out.
The same happened again this morning where at 8.50am, the housekeeping staff were in the corridor banging equipment, hoovering and we now know all the gossip as they were chatting outside our door for half an hour. If checkout is 11am, you should not be woken by staff pre 9am. We ended up leaving early, skipped breakfast and were sadly not happy customers.
This place could be a gem, but some training in customer service and friendliness is needed along with some better processes in keeping noise levels down.
Finally, not too sure why the lift is still out of order, but it has not been working for well over a year?
We will return and give it one final chance.
- William (10/5): - Good value 24 hour private parking, with free Sunday parking on road outside, staff were very accomodating of an early checkin, hotel itself and rooms were all great.
- Ben (8/5): - Fantastic place to stay in the heart of Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. Warm staff, modern rooms and a great price. Complimentary mini bar is a lovely touch
- Louise (10/5): Quirky hotel - Love this little quirky hotel, very pleasant atmosphere
- t (8/5): - Stayed there because went to a hen party
- johni457 (10/5): Great - Exceleent service staff wondeful andy great manager . quite expensive but good food nice service burger nice good times. One of the best places in birmingham to go really impressed with it all love it visiting from egypt so fantastic service
- Vicki (6/5): - The bar area was packed and a DJ wa playing very loud music. Not really a hotel to relax in. Way too loud to enjoy dinner as you couldn't hear yourself over the music, so we went out....
- E9321RUandrewh (8/5): Good cocktails - Great cocktails , can be a bit packed by the bar at times especially Saturday evening . Good selection of drinks food service is fast and tasty.
Eating the beef burger and chicken burger all good whilst watching the villa match on Saturday late afternoon
- Sarah (8/5): - For those with mobility issues, the lift doesn't work. Restaurant service was excellent. Twice I had to go to reception and there were no staff. I had to ask bar staff to get someone. However, the hotel is lovely inside and it faces an old church that's lovely.
- Deborah (10/5): Again a lovely stay. - Yet again another nice stay at St Paul's house.
The room was lovely and quiet, comfortable bed, very good area convenient for restaurants and bars near by without going into the centre of Birmingham.
- Mark (10/5): - Great place and great location
- Anna (8/5): - Lovely hotel. Great location and atmosphere. My room was spacious and well appointed However it was by a kitchen vent so a bit noisy in the morning.
- Helen (4/5): - Do not do not stay in any room facing the church as you will be lucky to get to sleep before 2 am due to noise of loud music and people maklng a racket waiting for taxis or smoking outside the entrance.Food sevice slow at dinner and breakfast.
- jennifergA6516EU (4/5): Very noisy at the weekend with priority given to the bar over the rooms. - While the hotel is probably very nice to stay in during the week, at the weekends priority has clearly been given to the bar. It is a very nice bar but the volume of music that is played until 1:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights is such that it is simply not possible to sleep in the hotel rooms. The reviews show that this is an ongoing issue that the hotel are aware of but have evidently done nothing about, choosing to prioritise the bar over the hotel. If you are going out clubbing at the weekend and won't be back to the hotel until the morning, it would be fine but it's no good if you actually want to sleep there. It's a shame because the hotel has a lot of potential and the breakfast was nice but its more of a nightspot than a hotel.
- Rachel (10/5): - Lovely area of the city and close to city, train station etc. nice bar and restaurant on site.
- alisonr244 (10/5): Good food and service ! - First bottomless brunch and had such a positive experience! Great food and service! Food was lovely and staff were very attentive. Very much allowed to do our own thing and use experience as we wished
Would absolutely recommend and come back
- Steve (10/5): - Great stay, lovely rooms, really nice place.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Enjoyed having a restaurant and bar below room. Hotel was within walking distance to public transportation but also had several places of interest nearby as well.
- Laura (10/5): - Great hotel in stunning surroundings.
- L7964FMchristopherd (10/5): Good space to try, you might find something to suit you, breakfast, lunch, dinner or just coffee - Visited this venue on three occasions, once for dinner, breakfast and today for business meeting. It is always a pleasure to use this space as staff, especially Raj is exceptionally attentive to your needs. An asset to the business. I would highly recommend it.
- Helen (10/5): Great hotel! - The room was quite small but very clean and recently decorated by the look of it. Great shower and good lighting etc for makeup. Iron and a fridge with water, small bottle of Prosecco and orange juice. Bed very clean and comfortable. Big TV. The only issue is that it is not light (Roman blinds) or sound proofed. The lift was out of order.
The small veggie breakfast was excellent.
Check in and check out very easy and staff very friendly.
Very lively bar!!
I will always stay here when I visit Birmingham.
- Valerie (2/5): - The plug sockets weren’t working so we contacted reception and they said it would be sorted. Half an hour later we asked again for the sockets to be sorted.
The young lad went to the room whilst we were out and fixed the issue, on return to the hotel at 22.55 we went up to the room to have the sockets blow again. So once more went down to the reception to speak to a different lad.
He didn’t know where the circuit board was so, after looking for 20 mins he decided that we needed to move to a new room at 23.30.
So getting to bed at 23.45 and up at 5.10am not really an ideal relaxed stay.
- Jimmyh432014 (10/5): An absolute gem - Great staff. Great rooms. Great hotel. Superb location. Will be back.
Wish I’d found this place years ago. Didn’t eat this time, but definitely will next time. Easy walk to anywhere of interest in Birmingham. Lovely bars within minutes.
Only moan; parking not cheap.
- Y2102RFsamg (2/5): Wedding Party - not enough food and scamming bartender - In Nov I hosted my wedding party at St Pauls. We had around 60-70 guests and were provided with the terrace. It was well decorated and had plenty of room for all the guests to enjoy the evening.
I pre-ordered food from the festive buffet menu 55 people and when the food arrived we were massively disappointed. Half the items on the buffet menu I ordered were not provided and there was simply not enough food to cater for 55 people. The food cost £2.5k and only enough to feed less than half the guests was provided.
The bartender was also stealing from the guests. They were over-charging by adding 10-20%+ tips onto people's drinks orders without asking them and was called out on this a number of times.
I raised these complaints directly with Saint Pauls and requested a partial refund based on the lack of food and the stealing bartender. I have not heard back from them since their promise to respond to me the 'next day'....this was 2 months ago.
Great location, nicely decorated, some nice staff. Wouldn't recommend due to theft/scam and poor service on the night.
- ChrisB0 (10/5): Great hotel in a great location - Comfy bed, spotlessly clean, looks very smart. Bar and restaurant downstairs and plenty of others in the local area. Plenty of parking on street or in nearby car park. Short walk to train station. This has now become our go to hotel when staying in Birmingham.
- Christopher (10/5): Great hotel in a nice location - Ideal hotel to stay in St Paul’s Square. The room was large and the bed was comfy. Everything looked shiny, clean and new. Great bar and restaurant downstairs. Plenty of others around the square and close by. will now be our go to hotel in Birmingham.
- F4794YQpeterw (10/5): Like a house away from Home - Was a lovely stay, the staff were welcoming friendly attentive and helpful, the rooms themselves were very homely and made you feel like you were in your own home and had a relaxed and lovely atmosphere to them, would defenitly reccomend anyone to stay here
- Robert (10/5): Lovely stay, would definitely return. - Lovely spot close enough to town centre but quiet enough at night. Great team who know how to look after people. Nice touch with free refreshments (juice, water, Prosecco) in fridge as well as tea and coffee. Very clean linen and towels. Quality shower. Will definitely stay again.
