Guest Reviews
- Michayla (10/5): - Always a pleasure
- Frankie (10/5): - With the assistance of desk staff , Tacoma, a personal property loss at the airport was resolved with his efficiency, knowledge, and kindness. kudos to him!
Property appears to be in need of renovation and updated maintenance. Stairs difficult without a working elevator. No ability to lock the sliding doors to ground level balcony. AC less than adequate - never got room temperature below 80*
- Kerry (10/5): - Perfect location, very helpful staff at this boutique hotel. It felt like we were part of the family.
- Nilar (8/5): - Staff was nice. Cleaning daily. Quiet. Not many staying in the hotel. Had to pay for laundry. We had very spacious suite. Furniture in the lobby is antique and needed dusting. We had to dust the tables etc in our room. Very big bathroom with tub and walk in shower. Can get basic breakfast but we mostly ate on the boardwalk. Will come back again.
- JOHN (4/5): - Was here 5 years ago and sadly the Pasanggrahan has gone downhill during this time. I was in 40l and room is large and has been updated with nice balcony overlooking the beach and port. Coffee pot in room but no coffee and no breakfast or any food as restaurant is not operating. Sad that the hurricane did so much damage and no one has been able to do major repairs necessary.
- Janette (4/5): - At one time this hotel was probably amazing but it went through a hurricane 7 years ago and it still looked like it. The lobby area was a mess and there isnt a restaurant as advertised. We stayed in a suite which was ok. View and location are amazing! We wouldn’t stay there again unless they cleaned the place up.
- Verified traveler (2/5): DO NOT BOOK - The hotel is very deceiving with its online pictures. There is trash and random furniture throughout the property. There is no bar, food, coffee, ice, or even water to drink. They currently advertise online that they have all these things with outdated pictures. The place is dirty and unsecured. You will not be safe there. The hotel has no security. Throughout the night, random strange people walked and screamed throughout the hallways. We had to place furniture in front of the door for safety. The kitchen looks like a Child's college dorm room. The bed sheets were not clean. The soaking tub faucets did not work and were hanging by a thread. The shower took forever to get warm. The locals and cab drivers were in awe that it was still receiving guests.
Zero Star
- Joy (10/5): - Friendly staff, great places to eat and shop. Safe and easy parking.
- Sheri A (4/5): - It was ok for a night
- PAUL (6/5): - There was nothing available to make coffee and the galley was not at all equipped. No screens. A sadly run down.
- Debra (8/5): - The front desk staff, I’m sorry I have forgotten her name, was amazing. She helped us numerous times sorting out places to go and things to see. The room was lovely with a balcony and a view of the beach and ocean. There was no real restaurant on site, just a beach bar that was open some of the time. That didn’t matter as there were lots of places to eat near by. The suite was the most amazing we had on our trip, 7 different places. Beautifully furnished, huge bathroom and adequate kitchenette.
- Randolph (10/5): - Continent to st barths ferry.
Nice boardwalk
- Sandra (10/5): - Beach front, huge rooms and bathroom, very comfortable bed, microwave with coffee maker and kitchen sink, descent size balcony with lounge chair, chair and small table, all workers super nice, a fridge near the check in that carried some alcohol and non alcoholic drinks for sale(super convenient) fresh coffee near the check in daily for free, off season so no restaurant available but tons of places to eat near by.
- alied (4/5): - Hotel right in center . On one side shoppingstreet, on other side beach. Parking garage under hotel. Hotelstaaf friendly but hotel was shabby.
- William (8/5): - It’s an old historic hotel the staff was very friendly and accommodating a few things in room did not work but no big deal. Water in bathtub was rusty looking but did not smell I assume maybe iron in the water or rusty pipes but in general we enjoyed our stay.
- David (10/5): - Older hotel with spacious room, very conveniently located
Pros:
• VERY convenient location – right on the boarwalk next to the ocean – walking distance to shops, coffee shop, restaurants, and the ferries!
• Very spacious room with a large terrace (with a great view)
• Just a few steps to the beach (and it’s a lovely beach)
• Not that expensive, considering the location and such
• Friendly staff
Cons:
• Not the most stylish hotel (it’s an older hotel… and the net over the bed was a bit old-fashioned for the room), but super-convenient and quite comfortable
- Danny (10/5): - Amazing place. Charming old world ambience with antique furniture. Very friendly staff. Ole at front deck is epitome of welcoming hospitality as is the entire staff. Highest recommendation
- Genja (10/5): - Good location, friendly staff, big room
- shannon (8/5): Perfect location - My husband and I stayed recently for NYE for three nights. The location was ideal for the fireworks as we could literally step out of our hotel and onto the beach promenade. It was an easy location for exploring the rest of the island too. There were not many other guests staying in the hotel, so it felt a little quiet, but overall we would stay there again.
- Louis (8/5): Nice big room - Room was Big and clean good location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - perfect location right on boardwalk and beach right there, they are still dealing with Erma but if you can get an oceanfront room they are beautiful and huge
- Gustavo (10/5): Good location - The hotels was really good. For my it was the location because it had good restaurants nearby and close to the Cruise terminal
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Reception was very pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I appreciate that the hurricane must have had a devastating effect upon the island and rebuild / rennovation is very expensive but the hotel looks very tired and quite run down
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel room was clean and generally comfortable but also very basic and the grounds were a bit dated. The WiFi worked really well and the staff at the hotel were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The fishermans room is a good lower budget option to visit St Maarten and there was free and easily accessible parking at the hotel which was a bonus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff and for after the hurricane they did a great job fixing it
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic employees, renovated rooms, the hotel is right at the beach. I found the main building and the furniture charming. They are still rebuilding from the hurricane.
- RumRunners (10/5): - Stayed just one night before joining our cruise. Upgraded to a massive waterfront room and given some local dining options by the front desk. Breakfast in the morning was not included but was very good.
- Cigarmac (10/5): - After the hurricane I am impressed with the staff and what they have accomplished. Friendly people, great breakfast, nice bar and service. I love the location, too. Hope they can restore every room.
- John (8/5): - This hotel was severely damaged in the hurricane. They are doing a great job under the circumstancez and we would definitelt stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice room , Hotel is just a few steps from the beach
In the city
Good service and helpful staff
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Unfortunately Phillipsburg is still recovering from the hurricane of 18 months ago...there is still a lot of cleaning up to do and this property is still very much under construction. The room was adequate, spacious and fairly clean. The bed was not comfortable though, and the bathroom left much to be desired. The best part of the stay was the wonderful staff...a lady called Donett and another lady called Colbert. Both fantastic people, and very helpful. This hotel will be better soon.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Needed paper cups or glasses in the bathroom. The two wineglasses by the microwave are too fancy and delicate for the bathroom
- Ron (4/5): - My room was a newly renovated room facing the beach and was very nice. However cigarette smoke from another room entering my room was so thick and constant it smelled like someone was smoking in my room. The rest of the facility was still in shambles from the hurricane. No lobby. No restaurant.
- Verified traveler (2/5): only Stay there if you want to be shout at - We had no hot water in the room, it took us 1 hour of arguing for someone to give us another room to shower, the person in the hotel that I was talking to told me he was not the receptionist, he was just there watching and that there was no manager or receptionist after 7pm, she had already left. There is no hotel personnel at night either, only a security guard from 11pm. The phone in the room wasn’t working, the place looked like a storage room, random stuff everywhere. We understand it was destroyed by the hurricane last year but they should open the rooms that are not ready and they should store their things in out of order rooms not in the middle of the hallways and every empty space in the hotel. We met the manager the next morning, she said she had nothing to apologize and was very very rude. She was told she would give us a full refund but did not give us the refund receipt so we called the bank to make sure we would get our money back and we were told the money was pending that they would monitor and block if the hotel tried to charge and they did! Even though the promised a refund they tried to charge us 2 days after we checked out. Would not recommend, this hotel should not be open until it improves, specially the customer service!
- Cookie (4/5): Not worth the price - Wanted to book a room that is close to Miami cruise port, just $10 cab ride for 2 people. Hotel was rustic, but in need of repair. Some furniture looked secondhand. My room did not look like any of the pictures. Door to room on second floor is facing another old building under construction and full of junk. It did have a balcony facing the water, but no door handle to get out there. I had to dig my fingers between the 2 doors to get it open. The wood balcony was in need of repair and painting. I sat on the bed and the headboard came off. The TV was making a static sound that was drowning out the sound. Called to ask for another TV, but sent a guy to play with the remote to make it louder and drown out the static. Patio area where you can eat looked old and creepy so we walked down the beach and found lots of bars and restaurants. The bathroom had peeling paint and only 1 washcloth. The air conditioning unit in the wall is controlled by your key card, so when you leave your room and take the card it turns off. If you are gone for awhile your room is hot and stuffy again. Not worth the money.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Its history is its only redeeming feature, and you need quite a bit of imagination to see through the unfortunate renovations. The rooms (non-historic) look they were cheaply freshened up a couple years ago and are already fading. Very high prices for the condition and location.
- Angela (10/5): Great stay - Great place ! Helpful staff and wonderful food!
Would stay here again !! Our Luggage man went above and beyond duty!!
- 06/01/2016 (8/5): Great location in paradis - The hotel staff was great! Everyone was so welcoming and accommodating. I arrived at the hotel 2 hours before check-in, and was able to gain access to my room. The view was spectacular and it was a very quaint, boutique hotel in the center of paradise. The direct access to the beach and boardwalk made it a perfect stay for a solo adventurer.
I was a short walk to the marina for the ferry to St. Barths. The hotel manager made my reservation and allowed me to borrow a beach towel to take with me. My friend was able to store his rental car at the hotel so we could easily drive back to the Marigol to take the ferry back to Anguilla.
- George (10/5): - Nice place. Clean. Could not adjust thermostat; only could turn on or off. They give discounts on meal to those staying there, but not advertised
- Matthew (10/5): Indonesian Island Charm On The Beach - We arrived and the hotel had not received our reservation information from Expedia. After reviewing our reservation printout and without any coaxing from us the desk clerk welcomed us to the hotel and upgraded us to a wonderful suite on the third floor with a magnificent view of the ocean and marina. Our bed was a romantic four-poster king with netting draped over it. The recently updated bathroom was huge with two sinks, a large vanity, enclosed separate toilet room, a double sized shower with glass enclosure and a very large soaking tub for two! Furnished with a small kitchenette and refrigerator and a balcony over looking the "boardwalk" and ocean - it was a perfect location for morning coffee and cuisants and evening glasses of wine! The Pasanggrahan Royal had an excellent restaurant (breakfast was especially nice) open to ocean breezes and an outside bar set under palm trees - happy hour and dinner was a beautiful island setting (Thursday night is Prime Rib special - melts in your mouth!) Sunday night their restaurant is closed and they provided a discount card to another restaurant. Something happening every day along the boardwalk, especially with the multiple cruise ships each day in the port. Took the local bus to visit other towns – very cheap per person.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great service - Overall good
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Stay in the new wing of the hotel. Older section rustic.
- Chris (6/5): Not a "Boutique " at all...misleading - I don't normally write these type of reviews since I often feel they are by whining folks who never really travel. However with this hotel, I do feel like I should share some vital details that may help people while selecting a hotel in Phillipsburg.
As far as "Boutique", I do believe this is a truly misleading word. There is nothing "chic" about this hotel that would indicate you're being "treated " as the word would incline. In fact it is the quite opposite, it has the bare essentials, a room with a balcony that if you book can have a nice view of the bay. But that's it. The room it self does give a nice "rustic" vibe but then it goes really "rustic" with lamps that don't work and the electrical outlet in the bathroom that also did not work (with exposed coil...). I didn't want to make a fuss over this but when you add on only getting "one" tattered beach towel (I was a little embarrassed for them) and no replacement towel for the other one they owed (they finally gave me the next day a regular white towel for the beach), I was feeling a little punked for the price.
I would also say the "hotel fees" are ridiculous (but that's probably all of the hotels at Phillipsburg ).
Eating there was also rather expensive, simple bacon & eggs with "fresh" orange juice for two ran up to $45 (I asked if the price was in Flanders...).
Anyway, if you're going to spend money like that then check out the other hotels that are more modern because you're not getting any deals here..
- Ronald (10/5): - We had a very good time at this hotel. The front office manager was very helpful and took care of all of our needs ie. booking tours and suggesting which tours were well received. The restaurant was very good pleasant service and good food. The rooms were clean and kept that way by the cleaning staff. They are a little slow in getting clean towels back into the rooms. My wife and I will definitely stay here next year.
- TB & VB (10/5): Nice right on the beach & town - had a few glitches the first stay 2 days prior to cruise 2/19 & 20 but thanks to great staffer Carole McKay things were straightened out for our 2nd stay for 3 days after our cruise 2/28 to 2/31/17. I would recommend this hotel. There are rooms right on the beach and newer larger rooms facing the beach. The rooms (not new) right on the beach need some work and better cable service but are very clean. My husband and I enjoyed speaking with Carole each day and the staff is extremely friendly. We enjoyed our stay here and when we return to St Maarten for our vacations we will stay there again.
- kristy (10/5): Great Location - We had a great experience with Colbert our front desk. She made outstanding recommendations for the local area. We booked a day to snorkel and we loved the experience. In addition, she helped us with selecting a rental car. She was full service to helping us with everything we requested. The location of this hotel is ideal to walk around and have several options to choose from for shopping, dining and to the beach. You can't ask for a better location in St. Martin that has all the convenient amenities.
- Louis (10/5): Clean hotel with large rooms on boardwalk - Quiet, huge rooms overlooking the ocean, on the boardwalk. One block away from taxi stand and starting point of island bus service. Large grocery store a few blocks away.
- sara (8/5): very nice hotel on the beach - Staff were very nice and this little hotel has a great placement. Shopping out the back door, beach out the other. Great for walking to places and the have off street parking too.
- Lawrence (8/5): Very convenient place to stay. - Our room backed on to the harbor and the boardwalk which were both surprisingly quiet and picturesque.
Shopping and restaurants all around. Easy to catch local buses.
- Erica (10/5): Location Location - The location of this hotel is perfect. Next to the beach. You can literally walk across to the beach from the hotel. This hotel lobby was a roaster farm, then the mayors mansion, then the summer house of the queen of Holland. A lot of history and very pretty. The hotel rooms are located right next to the main lobby and are very clean and roomy. Walk to ship port is 15 mins. Drive from airport is 20 mins or a little more depending on traffic. Super easy to get a taxi outside of airport. Bar outside at hotel next to dinning area is good and offers a variety of drinks. Only wish they offered free breakfast with room rental. We purchased breakfast and it was tasty. We received a free room upgrade which was nice. Facing the beach the view was beautiful. Next to main shopping and lots of restaurants. They where more than willing to hold our luggage until we had to leave around 1pm. Staff is very helpful and friendly.
