Guest Reviews
- Chris (4/5): - It is quite nice to stay in a historic building and the pub food below is also very enjoyable.
The bar staff check you into your room, but are not fully equipped to do so. The hotel manager tries to insist on cash payments, which is not feasible when travelling with a credit card.
- Kevin (10/5): - Nice little hotel and very friendly owner
- Colin (6/5): - We were given a double room at the end of the hallway(206/207) They are trying to keep it authentic but wood/plank flooring in halls and rooms are a bit noisy. The doors seemed original, but one could see out through the door jamb. The toilet rocked back and forth at each use. The bathroom door had to be slammed to close, but then wobbled. Coffee supplies were good, no breakfast offered, but there are places nearby. We thought it would be noisy with karaoke on Friday and live music on Saturday, but were pleasantly surprised; never heard a thing.
- Dave (6/5): - Way overpriced for the dated very basic room. This should be no more than 50 bucks a night. Itnis more of a hostel than anything. Ournwindow a/c was right over a dumpster which perfumed the room if wanted a/c. Do not recommend, especially at the price point.
- Mindy-Anne (4/5): Can’t recommend based on the rooms we had. - The beds were uncomfortable and the rooms didn’t look like renovations were completed. The people were nice and friendly. It was a little challenging to unlock the front door with the key. One room door barely latched and the deadbolt didn’t work. Overall it was passable but we wouldn’t stay again based on the rooms we had.
- richard (8/5): - Lodging was good, they don't have many things that they claim on the menu at the pub downstairs and the beer could be colder !
- Kenneth (8/5): - The Hotel is very old but they have been updating it. My room was spacious and clean, but still needed a bit of craftsmanship to clean up the bathroom. I found the price was a great deal for that time in the Okanagan. Would book again.
- Beat (10/5): - New management. Good facility. Understaffed. House key didn't work (but we could get in through the pub). We were traveling through and it was just what we needed. Fair price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel was quiet. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean. It was a pleasant overnight stay
- James (2/5): - Air conditioning did not work so the room did not cool down till around 1am,we had to buy a can of raid to kill the ants that were crawling all over, room had a very poor cable selection and no remote for the tv.Was over all a very disapointing stay stay .
- Wayne (4/5): - Overpriced... Underwhelming.
- Carol (10/5): - It's a 87 year old Hotel with historic charm. Beds are very comfortable. Connected was a pub called Howling Coyote. Food was good and we had great fun playing Music Bingo. Extra special I won the blackout shharing with another Lady
- Kathleen (8/5): - I found the history very interesting. It was on Main Street so everything was within walking distance. The bathroom was very clean but there was a water leak in the taps and we were cleaning that up regularly. The is no Lobby Area and we found no staff except for bar and Grill. So no one to call with concerns or get help if needed.
- Ryan (8/5): -
- Bill (6/5): - Very clean, good service. Older small hotel , convenient to everything in town.
- Phil (10/5): Friendly and with a fun pub - Affordable and right in downtown Oliver. Great pub and the food and service are great in the pub.
- William (4/5): - Location is good. There is no lobby reception desk. We checked in late and had to go see the neighbor bartender to get our keys. There was loud karaoke in to the early hours of the next day. Not impressed for sure!
- Emma (2/5): - Do not book
- Amber (10/5): - .
- Robert (10/5): - nice old hotel. Newly renovated. A work in progress but would stay there again.
- Fran (6/5): - Clean room.
My biggest disappointment was poor (almost nonexistent wifi). We rely on wifi to book rooms and maintain contact with family when traveling. Due to short visit through USA on our way to Mexico (3 days) did not have a SIM card that worked in states.)
- Verified traveler (6/5): Low price for the basic necessities. - This is the most basic of basic accommodation. We looked out into a tin roof on the back of the building. It served our purpose, however. Just needed an inexpensive place to sleep for the night. The beds were comfortable and the mini fridge was handy for some essentials we brought.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Our room was clean and had everything we needed; the tv was on the side wall, however, which made it difficult to watch.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Not bad for a one night quick stay. Check in was quite easy other then having to go through the pub.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great value for the price. Stayed here prior to a track day at Area 27
- Verified traveler (2/5): - OK for one night stay. Bath sink hot water out of order. Some electrical outlets no current. Bath sink crack rusty marks. No receptionist have to go through bar staff. Otherwise enjoyed the town of Oliver itself.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I don't like bed bugs! I don't appreciate having to register as a guest in a beverage room!!!
- Angelita (2/5): Worst accommodation - The worst accommodations ever . We only got 5 towels total for 4 of us in the room for 3 days stay. The shower doesn’t work properly it’s too hard to pull the knob to get shower . Garbages not even change at all. The worst is the internet is always down everytime we came home which leaves us no wifi for 3 days stay there . I wouldn’t recommend this at all specially when you have kids that always needs their electronics
- Kieu (8/5): Happy in Oliver - It was our lucky last minute booking, we wanted to stay between Kelowna and Osoyoos. We found Desert Arms in the price range we’re looking for. The renovated old charm Tudor style hotel with added bonus of pub and restaurant downstairs was perfect for our late night arrival. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Our two queen beds was just right for our family, the beds were comfortable, hardwood floors with mini fridge. Overall we’re happy we found this gem!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - EVERY THING.ALL OF ABOVE. TAKE THEM OFF OF YOUR SITE.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location within the town, interesting hotel layout and rooms.
- Jeff (2/5): - Noisy, small, television mounted on wall where it was unwatchable. Air conditioner ran non-stop onto the bed, slamming door right below the room. Bar is attached and can only imagine that it’s even noisier on weekends.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The outward appearance is deceiving, the staff were very friendly and accomodating. Our room was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Our only beef was their was no sound on the tv and the owner tried to fix. It wasnt until later we realized the last guest had stolen the hdmi cable. Best sleep of my vacation.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff was friendly and accommodating. Went out of their way to address any issue we had.
- Daniel (6/5): - Room
Was basic but clean and comfortable. Very disorganized with keys and getting into the room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - GREAT PLACE TO STAY RIGHT IN TOWN,CLOSE TO ALL AMENITIES
GOOD RESTAURANTS CLOSE BY.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The host is very kind and friendly. The place is nice and clean and very affordable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Property would benefit from attention to curb appeal (landscaping maybe, care, weeding).
Overall enjoyed the unique, if odd experience of checking in through the pub. Good people. Clean room. Bare necessities for sure, but an acceptable place to sleep and refresh for the next days travel.
- Lorne (10/5): Thumbs up!! - We had an awesome time staying here. John and the rest of the staff were so accommodating and went the extra mile to make our stay a wonderful experience. The bar downstairs has great food and we met some pretty cool people.
- PAUL (8/5): Good value accommodations - The room was overall very good for the cost per night. I wasnt expecting the Ritz Carleton. The bathroo. Could use a little finishing (paint and a really good cleaning). The Pub had pretty good food, good cold beer basic selection. Staff were friendly and the service good. Surprisingly it was relativley quiet . For an overnight stay it was a great place to be. I would recomend for that purpose.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The guy is hard to get a hold of. I waited Aro Nd for him several times. The first room I got was infested with ants. The other rooms were in terrible condition and were unusable. I had to go back twice to make sure me and my family actually had a room to stay. The owner put a guilt trip on me about how i "think I've got it hard" but his wife died. The sink leaked in the room we finally stayed in. Don't go here it was a fiasco.
- Dana (6/5): - Old hotel, floor dirty, noisy, but comfortable beds. Overpriced
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No front desk. Bit weird. But manager was down right away to check us in when called.
- Christina (6/5): - The staff I encounter were very friendly and helpful. The new hardwood floors and paint was pleasant. However there was hair and dust all over the floor and hair all over the bed sheets and pillow.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel was easy to find. The renovation gave the feeling of old fashioned comfort. From the beautiful stone fireplace in the lobby to the clean room relaxing was easy. At first we thought there might be a problem with noise from the Pub next door but this was not the case.
We slept well and awoke refreshed.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Check in was awful. Had to go to the bar attached to building for them to phone the Manager to let us in!. Manager said there was no reservation from Expedia for us!!. He did let us stay the night though as they weren't busy!. Thank goodness. Very disorganized way of running the hotel.
- Nancy (8/5): Good older hotel. - We visited Oliver for an overnight stay. Dessert Arms was a nice surprise. Staff were very friendy. Go to Murphy's Pub to get directions for check in. Easy after that. Room was clean and comfortable. Good beds. Only thing that could have made it more comfy would be a chair or two. Hotel is located in the center of everything so easy walking. Oliver is a very friendly town and definitely worth a stop.
- Janice (6/5): - No AC or fan in room, was extremely hot and uncomfortable to sleep. Bar was awesome, food and service were great.
- jasonbenj (6/5): - It's OK, you pick up keys at the bar, and let yourself in.
You unlock 2 deadbolts, then walk up stairs, then unlock 2 key card doors (main and your room) so if you can't stair climb, or have a lot of stuff, it's not for you.
Parking out front.
Room had AC, fridge, coffee maker, TV.
Like I said, it's OK.
- Sandi (6/5): - We needed a place to stay for the night. This hotel is nothing special but was sufficient for the night.
