• ALAN (2/5): Hotel closed down-do not book it! - The hotel had closed down more than a week before we arrived.There was no one at the place when we arrived there. Another couple of guests also turned up at the same time. I had already paid through hotels.com but still I received no notification of this and had to book another hotel quickly at great expense. I am still waiting for Hotels.com to refund me.

• Verified traveler (2/5): - Stayed in Room 4 on Saturday, 21st Dec 2024. Upon arriving, we were told the hotel had no heating it had broken during the storm on 7th Dec, and we should have received an email informing us of this. We never received this. Having known this, we would not have stayed here. The hotel was very dated for what used to be a grand wedding venue. When getting to our room, the towels had stains on them. During the night it was quite windy and the broken window blew open and the window was banging open and shut I thought it was going to shatter, due to the broken clatch, the window could not be closed the wind was howling through the already cold room. By the time we got up, the room was freezing. We both had no sleep due to the wind howling through the windows. This is the worst hotel stay we have ever had.

• Liam (4/5): No water, no heating, no sign of managers - As the title says, we arrived to no heating, the staff had out a portable heater in the room though, despite having a TV the remote didn’t work at all so it wasn’t watchable. The next morning we woke up to no water in the shower or any of the taps. After speaking to the young lady behind the desk about the issues I was told a manager would call me back the next day to discuss, 3 days late I’ve just called back and there is still no manager in to deal with it. If I’m being picky then there were other issues such as the iron not working, and the room being described as having a king bed on Hotels.com but there was only a double in the room. The young staff members on were very friendly though and clearly meant well, the place just isn’t getting looked after properly which is a shame as it used to be such a nice venue.

Nice warm welcome received as always and choice of places to eat. Feel that with a little TLC Leasowe could go back to what it once was when we first stayed, seems a little neglected and having stayed in exactly the same room this time as our last visit bathroom tap was still loose and still no plug in the basin. Not enough negatives to stop us from staying again but just feel that things need doing.

• Donna (8/5): Renovated Castle - The hotel is a renovated castle and it looked amazing inside and outside. The bedroom was decorated beautifully and it had a great size tv. The room had a kettle and they supplied tea, coffee and biscuits. They also gave 2 bottles of water.

I spoke to two other contractors during my visit, each with the same view. We don't drink in the bar because its too expensive, we don’t eat in the restaurant because its too limited, we don’t add breakfast because £12 is a rip off. Between us we were responsible for several room bookings and none of us will go back unless it is the last place available.

Although the manager listened to my complaint the following morning, I never received an apology for the lack of respect I received when I checked in the night before or for having to stay overnight in a dirty room or the lift not working. No courtesy at all. This hotel just want large wedding parties. They made it clear but their terrible attitude that they don’t care about repeat service from independent travellers. Very short-sighted.

Breakfast, again the stuff and room was lovely but the breakfast had a VERY poor choice for £12. Only 1 egg? No granola or breakfast fruit such as melon, pineapple, etc no breakfast pastries etc. very odd and poor spread.
• Harry (4/5): Tired hotel - comfortable room - Short of staff so we struggled to get them to serve food not in the bar which had Sky Sports. Lift out of order (rumoured for 2 years!). Lots of basic issues in bathroom, unopening windows, damp showing in many places outside our room, and clearly needs lots of investment. There was a wedding party below us - but we heard nothing and slept well in a very conformable bed. They still demanded a credit card £200 reserve 'in case of problems' even though we had paid in full in advance. It was released the next day.

• Darron (10/5): - Always enjoy staying at Leasowe Castle, beautiful setting and easy access to great walks. Spacious rooms and lovely food available in one of 2/3 rooms, chose the bar this time around.

We were told our room was on the second floor, but that turned out to be up at least 5 flights of stairs. At that point we asked to be moved and they did accommodate us. The shower did not have a door or a curtain, so when you took a shower the bathroom was soaked. Will probably not stay there again.
• Duncan (6/5): Disappointing - Hotel was far from full but we were given z room overlooking what we think was the kitchen roof. Extractor fan started up at 6.30am. Door was difficult to close. Lock kept sticking open. Had to use key card to reopen it. Stair carpets look like they haven't been changed in 30 years. This hotel is in my home town, where I visit often, but probably wouldn't stay here again.
• Heather (6/5): - We had a very disappointing pub meal at the Wreckers Pub, it was not busy, the menu was so limited and when the meal came, it was cold, overcooked and totally unacceptable for the prices charged. The accommodation itself was adequate.

• Nicola (6/5): - Stayed in 1999 definitely has gone down hill, greeted by taking £200 deposit for possible damages … I’ve stayed in 5* hotels that don’t take this, it sends alarm bells about the place that they feel it’s necessary to do this. For this I would expect the room to be perfect, but no, stained bedding with ink and other marks, toilet rolls holder not fixed to the wall securely, flashing light bulbs, the shower needed to be regrouted due to mould. It’s a shame as the building and surroundings are lovely as is the location. I felt on edge that they could withhold My £200 which made me uneasy throughout my stay … sadly I would not look to go back because of this.

Only complaints we have was the bed 's' it was two singles pushed together, so uncomfortable, hardly slept at all. I would definitely return but next time ask for a double bed. Keep up the good work 👏

• Faith (8/5): - I wanted somewhere quiet and I got it. Great place to stay. Room and bed was lovely :) As everyone has said before it could do with some tlc in places and the something needs to be done to get rid of the oil smell as you enter.
• Jamie (6/5): Decent location but needs refurb - The location is good but the Hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. It has some great character features but overall the hotel & especially rooms are very dated. The room was clean but very shabby. The walls are very thin & I could hear the guests in the next room having a conversation, walking around & even snoring. It’s the second time we’ve stopped here but I think if we visit the area again i would look for an alternative. Another thing, there was some king of Viking festival taking place on the hotel grounds which we weren’t made aware of when booking and so the place was very busy & parking was an issue.

• Gareth (8/5): A Most Agreeable Stay with Historic Charm - Firstly, The Wirral exceeded my expectations, so in good mood upon arrival. The location has a panoramic aspect, being on the north west shoreline. The Leasowe is full of character and history, initially a C16 castle. Visit especially the elegant panelled lounge, with a delightful moulded ceiling. My room was comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Bathroom well appointed. The renovation of the hotel had not cut corners. My dinner was a well done fish and chips, following a sticky barbecue chicken legs (a bit too sticky for me). The service was kind and professional. There were a couple of cliches with my bill, but these were sorted without fuss. I would definitely stay again (and revisit The Wirral and its friendly folk). Oh! And The Leasowe is good value for money.
• Sharyn (6/5): Frozen to bits - Staying with 8 family members for a celebration. Lift kept breaking down and some of family have mobility issues so this was a problem, being in the 2nd floor. Our room was freezing at night window seals had gone and feeble tape put on them didn’t work. Bed’s comfortable, food was ok. Beautiful views Hotel was spotless and most of the staff were very helpful. We did report heating matter after first night but didn’t get offer of extra heating or blankets so heading home with a rotten cold!
• David (6/5): Must try harder! - The room we had (Rm28) had failed windows with condensate in double glazing, the sea and golf course view was significantly affected, especially with the sign affixed to the window telling us not to open it. The evening function we attended, they didn’t put basic condiments on the table then the breakfast the day after, we waited for over 40 mins in a quiet dining area for our food.

• Dawn (2/5): - Easily one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. From the start the reception staff were unhelpful, the rooms were “straightened” but not clean (ex. stains on carpet). The walls are so thin that I could hear every bit of conversation happening next door (and it wasn’t anything I wanted to hear) - but the worst part was there was an event going on with music blaring so loud that I could hear it as clear as if it was in my room well past midnight. Called down to reception about the issue and their response was that it was *my* problem and they weren’t seemingly bothered to do anything about it. You could not PAY me to stay here again under any circumstances.

• A (6/5): - The hotel is in a great location . My bedroom was clean but in need of some TLC. When a hotel asks for a £200 pre authorisation “ in case of damage to your room “ I would normally expect the wardrobe to have doors that work and no mould on the bathroom ceiling.
• Michael (6/5): - This Hotel seriously needs a revamp, it could be a beautiful hotel, but it is very dated and lots of things made it look very cheap, horrible plastic flowers, plastic chains and horrendous wallpaper. Our room was very hot, which spoilt our sleep. On the plus side the two men on reception were very nice, but the £200 deposit was very steep and the breakfast was awful. It’s such a shame because it’s a lovely grand building that could be so much more.

• Verified traveler (4/5): Historic hotel - but not in a good way - Stale chip fat smell permeates every corner of this hotel. Random hand printed signs berate guests. And the room furnishings are extremely dated. On the plus side the linens were clean and crisp and the bed comfortable, grounds are beautiful and apparently some rooms have been refurbished. But Sunday morning lie in was not permitted with housekeeping bathing into the room at 09:50 saying “Just checking…”. Checking which guests have checked out would be better done at reception and this was just a poorly disguised wake up call to make their job easier. And perhaps if the inbuilt dual band quartz clock radio had not been missing its knobs I would have been able to comply.
• Ian (6/5): Probably wont be staying again - Stayed here a few times before over the last 5 or so years as my brother lives close by. Room was not worth the extra i paid for the premium/room with a view - at £100.00. It certainly did not look like the larger room on the image when booking.I questioned this but was advised that was the room i booked. I asked if there was any chance of an upgrade but was told not for free. Breakfast was ok - just no porridge which was disappointing for me.

• John (6/5): Gone down hill since 2020 - First time staying here since 2020, used to be a popular stay with me when in the Wirral, disappointing when you have youngsters playing football with football boots on the centre grass area in front of the reception area chewing up the grass, this was once a great position for wedding parties to have their picturss taken... Not saying the kids shouldn't play football, but to the side of the car park is a large grassed area that would be perfect for a kick about. Kind of shows the level of service that you get when no one cares what is happening right outside the main entrance to the hotel, will be giving the place a miss the next time, such a shame as this was a brilliant place to stay.

• Tony (2/5): Unhappy customer - Our room was fine, but the service was awful (except for the barman). We had an evening meal and when it came to ordering our dessert we were advised that we couldn’t have any as the chef had decided to close the kitchen and go home before we had finished!! So completely ruined our evening out. Will not be going back there!!!
• Chris (8/5): - Awesome building.. cool history.. and beautiful surroundings. Felt a bit weird checking in though.. they require passports of all guests and take photocopies of them out the back room.. and they also require a £200 deposit which takes a few days to be returned. That's considerably more of a deposit than I've encountered elsewhere on my travels and wasn't told why it was so high.. except that it's all in the T&C's on booking. Guess they've had some pretty lousy guests in the past. The building is also ridiculously hot in winter with heating on full blast. Oh and the breakfast wasn't great but the dude serving was lovely. Despite it's faults I would stay here again because it's a castle and it's cool AF.
• Luke (6/5): Nice hotel but I’d skip breakfast personally! - Hotel itself is nice lovely room etc just a few issues we had during our stay. Firstly the room was set to what felt like 40 degrees it was unnecessarily hot in there. Secondly the breakfast this is where it majorly fell down. The food was bland and dry and my partners sausage was pink in the middle and the hotel receptionist didn’t seem to know what to say about it at checkout just told us to email him a picture of it and that was it not even an apology.
• Nickie (4/5): Last time I’ll stay there - We’ve stayed here many times over the years but this time we were asked for a 200 deposit that will take 10 days to go back on to my account! The hotel room was far too hot and the radiator didn’t work Also asked for id luckily I had my driving license on me which I nerved usually do

• Mark (6/5): Average - Check-in process took over 15 minutes, after leaving all details when booked. One meal in the bar/restaurant had to be returned, staff in the restaurant/bar were very attentive and dealt with the problem, not too sure who was cooking the food! Window in room wouldn’t close properly and caused a draft and made room very cold, especially when heating went off at 11pm, I was promised a room voucher as compensation however wasn’t upheld. If wasn’t for these few issues was a nice hotel….
• Amanda (4/5): - My first impressions were wow! Loved everything about it & no complaints. Unfortunately this all changed at breakfast! VERY short staffed! The staff who were on were Sue & Mark Ming who both deserve a mention-outstanding given that they had to cope with everything on their own & were running around trying their best topping up the coffee/toast/ etc, clearing & relaying tables, taking orders, serving etc. Because of this breakfast turned into brunch which for some of the other guests meant wasted time as they had plans in Liverpool as they were staying there on Sunday night. The breakfast cost £12 pp so £24 for my partner to pay which is A LOT & we wished we hadn’t been up sold when checking in I have rung twice to ask to speak to the Manager but he is never available. The receptionists are also lovely-especially the one from South Africa. As it had now been a whole month since our stay & he hasn’t acknowledged my complaint I have no option to write a negative review. Amanda Norton
• Neil (4/5): Ordered a castle room got a dungeon - Stayed in room 21 looked nothing like the photos we looked at on the website . Dodgy electrics ie white wire coming out of a plug socket. So cold in the room the bed was damp . Bathroom was an ice box . Generally the room fixtures and furniture were tired and are in need of a total overhaul. I have stayed in £45 b&bs in Blackpool and Rhyl for a couple and had much nicer experiences . I will never stay here again and if I’m asked by anyone else I will tell them of my experience..
• Siobhan (6/5): Would not return - I was pleased with the room we were given. Room was very clean and beds were lovely and comfortable. The hotel was very cold downstairs. We asked a few times if we could close the lounge door to keep us warm, this ignored. Poor service. Breakfast was a disaster, very poor service but with two staff for a whole hotel was very poor. You really need to put your guests first above your wallet. Communication poor about wanting ID , £100 deposit thankfully we had both but had we not it would have caused lots of issues.
• Doreen (10/5): Family - My niece git married and it was fabulous from beginning to end staff are brilliant and room was lovely
• Vee (6/5): Needs some updating. - We had 3 rooms and all 3 said the beds and pillows were awful. One said the bed was stained. They had the fan from the kitchen outside which was very loud and heating didn’t work in room. The room service was disappointing. You would expect a different menu to the brasserie, something like sandwich, omelette, burgers but no so a take away was ordered in stead! John in the breakfast room was outstanding what a lovely man. So kind and helpful. Though herbs in the beans - not so sure!! Not well lit at night when we came in as car park was full there was a function on so had to use the back car park and it was difficult to see where we were going. Obviously needs some updating no usb plug sockets so remember to take your plugs! Luckily we did take 2 between 6 of us! Old school. No electric charging point for cars either. Lovely view of beach and close to golf course if that what you’re going for.
• Jim (8/5): - Lovely property, lots of history. Staff were excellent as was the food- The room was a little small but quite comfortable. Nice view of the golf course and sea beyond. Worth a visit.
• Verified traveler (4/5): I cannot recommend for a business trip... - Hotel in general look tired and in need of investment. Overpriced breakfast soaked in oil - I felt taste of it for rest of the day. On check-in, apart from the cost of the room, you need to allow them to block £100 on your card toward "accidental damage". They request to take a copy of photo ID with intention of keeping it in their archive for 7 years ???!!! I was not able to connect to hotel WiFi either - no reception in my room. Although room was reasonably priced, I will not be coming back :(
