Guest Reviews
- Summer (10/5): Amazing and tranquil place! - The staff here were super friendly and the cabins were impeccably clean. Had a cozy night in one of the loft cabins. This area of Costa Rica has cooler weather, so you don't have to worry about being too hot. The restaurant staff were warm and welcoming and the food was great. This is an amazing deal for the price. Definitely would recommend!
- Manue (10/5): Amazingly beautiful and cheerful - Only compliments can me made. Cabins are so pretty, food is amazing. On top of it is the warm welcome and highest quality of service you get anytime
- Pablo (8/5): - Schönes Hotel und Freundliches Personal.
- Adam (10/5): - What a beautiful place and the owners and staff is so kind and makes you feel so welcome. The cabins are very nice, food is delicious and the setting is absolutely gorgeous. I wish my time here could have been longer as there is so much more to explore. I hope to bring my kids here soon.
- David (10/5): - We loved our stay at this rustic location. Awesome authentic breakfast and very accommodating and informative hostess, Yocky. For travellers expecting luxury and air conditioning, this is not that experience. It is rural (some dodgy roads to get there), and basic but clean and well maintained cabins. Good hiking in the area.
- Oliver (10/5): Ein traumhafter Aufenthalt - Sehr schöne Anlage mit tollen Hütten und sehr freundliches Personal. Einfach, naturnah, einzigartig.
- Emma (10/5): Beautiful family owned farm property - What an amazing stay! The farm is thriving with wildlife and the plants. There’s so much hiking nearby. Our room was comfortable and cooled off at night. We loved the place so much that we want to come again. Very well maintained and the owners feel like family
- Thomas (10/5): - Exceptional setting for viewing birds/wild life
- Delta (10/5): - We absolutely loved our 4 night stay here!! We stayed at the family cabin, ehich the kids loved as it looked like a treehouse! We took advantage of the horseback riding, the view and tour guide were incredible and if we had another day there, we would have went again. The owners were fantastic with communication before and during iur stay, they even offered to have dinner ready for us upon our late arrival, which made things much easier after a long travel day. The food was so good and so much serviced, we had a hard time finishing everything! On top of the services they offered, they also let the kids go milk cows and provided us with tips ans suggestions we took for local areas ehich was greatly appreciated ♡ i could say so much more about how much we loved it there and would recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the area, especially with children!!
- Jennifer (10/5): - This place is a hidden gem! The rustic cabins are well maintained and clean. A short walk from the cabin and you arrive at the restaurant where the food is amazing and reasonably priced. The hosts were so nice and helpful, making suggestions for our hikes and other options for dinner (although we ate on site 4 times it was so good). Our kids miss Lucky and Domino and wanted to take the puppies home :-) I would definitely recommend!
- Nathan (10/5): Great place to stay. - What a great place to stay, great people, accommodations that keep you comfortable while allowing you to really experience the forest and good food and drinks to cap it all off, wish I'd stayed longer.
- Jen (10/5): Highly recommend - Great rustic farm stay! Dogs everywhere - which I love! Wonderful staff, rustic cabins, lovely nature sounds and beautiful flower everywhere!!!!
- Pierre (10/5): - Very cute rustic cabins. Great service and great food at the restaurant. Family owned and take good care of the guests. Provided information on the activities in the area. Have been there 5 different stay in the last 3 years and loving it every time. Lots of birds to observe form the cabins, Tucanes, Parrots, Aracary, Oro Pendula (montezuma) and several other.
- Nicholas (10/5): Simple hotel with great food - I stayed here on the first night of a cycling trip and it was a great place to stay with tasty food and friendly staff. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable, but the wifi didn’t reach the room.
Sehr nette Gastgeber.
Ein Moskitonetz wäre von Vorteil.
- Harold (8/5): - awesome place simple life , great food and people a long way away from the hustle a bustle of everyday life
Great Place simple life
Great People
Great Food
Good Facilities but simple the way it is suppose to be
place won't be for everyone but it was awesome
Scott & Nika
- Luis Fernando (10/5): - I love the place is like living in a different world, with no tv, no phone is a new filing off been with out technology and more with the nature
- Danuta (10/5): - Beautiful landscape and variety of plants/flowers around the property. Very peaceful and relaxing. Excellent food for breakfast and dinners. We really enjoyed the simple and tranquil atmosphere.
- Susanne (8/5): - Extremely rustic cabins. But clean though basic. Cold water only. Excellent food. Orchids, birds and monkeys. Nice people. Follow directions given to the property and don’t let your GPS deviate you from that route or you could get stuck in the mud!
- Victor (10/5): - Unique rustic cabin with great amenities and surrounded by rainforest.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner/host was incredibly kind and generous with her time, cooking, attention, recommendations, willingness to help us learn Spanish -- everything.
I cannot recommend this place enough. The food was incredible. The garden was beautiful. If you want to get away from big hotels and stay in the mountains and rainforest with some wonderful people. This is the place for you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - An absolutely stunning property nestled in a tropical garden. The hospitality is excellent and food delicious. Highly recommend for a unique stay in volcano country.
Excelente servicio.
- Benjamin (10/5): - Great place, great food, great folks!
- Mike (10/5): - The most delightful hotel experience I have had in years, from the beauty, to the price to -especially!- the service. The cabins are rustic in every way but comfortable and complete. You will wake up next to a pond and surrounded by a functional farm with both farm and wild life. Breakfast and dinner ‘tipoco’ will be served by the most delightful people. I have no idea about lunch because you will be in the middle of the ‘Valle Verde’ and it’s Volcano National Parks and many hot springs and rivers, so you will be busy. This is the perfect place to get away from it all and emblematic in every way of “Pura Vida” and I cannot wait to return.
Drive East to Bagaces and then North on 164 so that google maps doesn’t lead you to the back way, which you can explore at your leisure while exploring the local volcanoes and hot springs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Off the beaten path and a fun drive in it you follow the Google maps directions
- Giuseppe (8/5): Nice family run place - I really enjoyed staying at this place. The cabins are basic but they are cute and they have everything you need. The owners are really nice and they help you as much as they can. Food provided is good although the selection is limited.
As many other people said it is better to get there using the road 164 and 737. Google doesn't have the 737 so it won't suggest that road.
- mike (10/5): Quiet and peaceful - VERY RELAXING AND HOSPITABLE PLACE TO STAY. PLENTY OF FEATHERED FRIENDS !
- Michelle (10/5): Awesome - This was the perfect place for us to stay. It was quiet and remote with tons of birds to see. We saw a toucan outside our cabin. The service is excellent. The food was great and the menu was broad enough that we had something new every night. We stayed for three nights and explored the area. Its easy to find. The shorter road that is listed as 4x4 could be done in a car if the water crossings are not flooded which would be hard because they are very small. The road is marked once you get out of town. They are few turn offs and hard to get lost. The road is a one lane dirt track but we only saw one other care in 45 minutes. Cabins where comfortable to stay in. You should bring bug spray as it is the rain forest and it is a cabin.
- Kristin Soebstad (8/5): Great stay! Quiet with a jungle feel - We had a great stay at Santa Maria Volcano Lodge. The cabins are really comfortable, situated a bit off the road. There’s a little lake on the property along with a restaurant that’s open for breakfast until dinner. The Lodge will help you arrange hikes in the national park or horseback riding tours, unfortunately we only stayed one night. Of you come by car make sure you take the road from directly east that starts at Aguas Claras. Its much faster and much smoother than the road from the south (coming from Liberia). Would definitely come back:)
- Marjory (8/5): - Access is via a 16 km very bumpy and stones road and it takes 40 minutes. Great staff and good cabina. Fantastic grounds and gardens. Good freshly cooked food but not many choices.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Rustic and Quaint - We chose this because of the affordable price and great location It really is a rustic but quaint atmosphere and would be a step up from camping...not to be compared with a hotel. Hard, thin mattresses, cold water and not an entirely "bug resistant" dwelling. No fridge or Wi-Fi in the cabins. With the right expectations, you will enjoy your stay
- Olga (8/5): Overall Positive Experience - Be prepared for 14 kilometers of a really bad road. We enjoyed our stay at Santa Maria Volcano Lodge but we were ready for a rustic place at the remote location. If you are not used to Costa Rica's roads or if you are looking for comfort - you might not enjoy it as much. Positives: surprisingly good food, super cheap. Turn offs: 14 kilometers of a super bad road (even with 4x4), need a flash light to get out of a cabin. Mosquito net would be a great addition to the room. :) Overall: for the money, it was great!
- John (10/5): Jungle cabins with a few modern amenities. - These wooden cabins are very rustic, but have modern tiled bathrooms attached. Its a very good combination. The gardens are amazing, and the local birdlife prolific. Be prepared to hear everything all night long as the birds call to each other, the frogs croak, the insects sing, and so forth. It will be a very loud night because you are in their home. The food is simple, and pretty good, but I've had better local food in Costa Rica. Only complaint is that the beds and the pillows could be upgraded. And just an observation - there is no wifi or cell service in the cabins, but there is at the main building. All in all, a very positive experience if you like roughing it a little.
- Kristina R. (10/5): Beautiful! - If you are looking for an excellent experience, this is the place! Beautifully kept, excellent food and service. I recommend 4-wheel drive for anyone driving there. It is a perfect blend of rustic charm with modern conveniences. Although it rained heavily during our stay, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would love to go back when it is not so muddy! =)
- Verified traveler (10/5): Incredible location! Lush jungle settting - Highly recommend staying here. It is in a lush jungle setting and excellently manicured to fit the land, and all the cabins are cozy and spacious. Awesome staff and very friendly and helpful. I came solo but would return with a significant other -- this would be an amazing place for a romantic get-away.
Tip: If you plan to visit Rincon de la Vieja National Park (and you very much should!!) rent a 4x4 to make the short-route between the lodge and park. I had a tiny sedan and had to take a longer 1.5 hour route instead of 45 minute route to the park. Still works, just a little bit of driving. The staff said the tiny car should make it but I didnt want to try crossing rivers.
