- Caroline (7/5): - Lovely Host vèry kind and friendly felt really welcome. Breakfast at extra cost was extremely dissappointing. Not good quality produce.
- Juliette (8/5): Cosy house close to city centre - Location was near city walls & easy walk to city centre.
B&B feel made it homely & cosy.
Owners were lovely & helpful. Limited & tight parking in tetris pattern. Lucky owners were able to help with getting into the compact space.
- Pamela (10/5): Brilliant stay - Brilliant location, lovely period property and most importantly fabulous family run hotel. Gurang met us on arrival he was so friendly and helpful and even parked my car 😁.
Had a gorgeous breakfast too, I would highly recommend this hotel. Nothing
- 1889seang (9/5): Weekend away - The location was spot on for our plans,
Durga the host , was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us.. N/a
- Ian (9/5): 2 nights at Barbican House - Location was excellent for us taking in a gig at the Barbican Theatre and not that far from the City Centre. The hosts were lovely, breakfasts excellent and the room and Barbican house were spot on
- richard (8/5): Great stay,Sabrina was very helpful and informative. - Very Clean, car parking a bonus.
- SandHaze (8/5): - 10 out of 10 Location comfortable bed beautiful period building WiFi signal weak at times. for the price potentially a coffee machine should been included
- John (10/5): - Very cosey .very convenient location especially for barbican theatre and shambles
- Ruan (10/5): Fantastic stay - Excellent location
- Derrick (10/5): We were very pleased with our stay and I would recommend it to others. - A very friendly service all round, the rooms were immaculately clean and the beds were as good as comfortable as our beds at home. The breakfasts we had were delicious. We would definitely stay here again.
- Joanne (8/5): Great overnight stay in a comfortable small hotel with great hosts - Great location for the Barbican and the city centre
Host was very welcoming
Parking available on site
Lovely breakfast
Very comfy bed Some minor updating required
- Kay (10/5): Enjoyable Stay - Location was perfect to walk into Town centre, also to concert venue we were attending
Host & Staff were very welcoming & helpful
Breakfasts was excellent Parking tight!
- Hayley (10/5): - Lovely clean period property with very welcoming hosts. Nice breakfast we had on the last day, the only thing I would say is to swap the chipolata sausages for a proper butchers thick sausage, maybe that’s just a preference but it is quite an expensive breakfast. Nothing
- Tessa (9/5): Lovely short stay - Great location, easy to find, friendly welcome, very clean, thoughtful touches in room Parking was a little tight but ok
- Jackie (6/5): -
- Charlie (5/5): Poor value for a lot of money. - Only option for breakfast was 8
30am too early. Advertised as Hotel Barbican. Not a hotel. Drag heavy cases up 2 flights of stairs. An average B&B . We booked it as it was Advertised as hotel, false advertising. Over priced for a B&B by 50%. Breakfast an additional price .
- Jo (8/5): -
- Suzanne (9/5): - Place was comfy and very well-placed for exploring York. Owner was very helpful when we arrived with giving us directions and tips for places to visit.
- Barry (9/5): We’ll definitely come back when we’re next in York. - Really good location, lovely staff, great standards and a mega breakfast. Best black pudding I’ve had in many years. The owner is an ex-Gurkha who served in a similar regiment to my Wife’s Father. Extremely nice gentleman. Thank you for your service Sir. All good, no complaints at all.
- Man Ting (10/5): Friendly gesture, extraordinary interior design, fabulous location with walking distance to mos of the attractions in th - It was an exceptional experience staying at the Barbican House. The Victorian-style interior design, the cozy bedroom, and the amazing breakfast all contributed to a memorable stay in York.
We would like to thank Durga for his friendly gestures and helpful suggestions of hidden gems to visit during our stay.
The location of the Barbican House is fantastic—it only takes 15–20 minutes to walk to most of the attractions.
If you’re looking for a warm and characterful stay in York, the Barbican House is definitely an excellent choice.
- Nick (10/5): Amazing stay with the best hospitality - The room was nicely furnished, the facilities were excellent and the location of the hotel was ideal. The host was incredibly kind and genuine. You could tell they cared about their guests experience and made me feel very welcome. I would encourage everyone to make Barbican House their place to stay when visiting York. If I ever find myself back in the area, I will absolutely be back.
- Mark (10/5): Really friendly and warm welcome. Gave us some useful information. Would stay here again. - Nice location, close to the town and attractions.
Lovely fresh cooked breakfast. Room nice and clean.
- Sillas (10/5): Impeccable stay, elevated by genuine hospitality. - My stay at Barbican House was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Everything exceeded expectations, the room was spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared, and the overall atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
What truly made the experience special was the kindness of the host. At the end of my stay, they surprised me with a birthday card, which was such a thoughtful and personal gesture. It made the entire visit even more memorable.
I would highly recommend Barbican House to anyone looking for a comfortable and genuinely hospitable place to stay. I’ll definitely be coming back.
- Russell (10/5): - Owner very friendly. Breakfast was brilliant Nothing
- Eileen (10/5): Our stay at the Barbican played a big part in making our short break perfect - The Barbican was spotlessly clean with top quality furnishings & Linen. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in a cleaner property. Breakfast was delicious top quality ingredients perfectly cooked served on lovely crockery. N/A
- Keith (10/5): We would definitely return. - The welcome when we arrived was very pleasant and personal. Loved that we were called by our first names, and asked if we would like help with our luggage. The room was very clean and comfortable and the breakfast delicious with great care taken over choices available and quality of presentation.

- Wilson (10/5): Very nice warm stay - The host was lovely Nothing
- Sophie (8/5): - Staff were brilliant, lovely decoration, smelt beautiful and good location. Low water pressure and took a while for hot water to come through but can’t really be helped when on the top floor.
- Julie (5/5): Lovely york shame bout couple problems - Loved york and b and b was good location to town. The bathroom fan so loud needs mending as wakes other person when need go in nite .
Also tv needs sorting as gos of every 5 mins then on again not good at all when tryin to watch something after lovely day in york
- Melanie (10/5): Immaculate city centre accommodation. - The place was immaculate, spotlessly clean and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Great location right in the centre of the city. Nothing.
- Ursula (9/5): Alles hat rundum gepasst. Wir waren sehr zufrieden -
- Phil (8/5): - Room was clean and tidy, and well presented. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. Enjoyable and plentiful breakfast. The only slight issue was that the water pressure in the shower was rather low - perhaps a different shower head would help to maximise the flow if the pressure to the property is inherently low.
- Rosanna (10/5): An easy, comfortable stay - Well organised, very accommodating, very clean and lovely owners N/A
- Nichola (10/5): Value for money - The rooms were comfy and very clean. The location was perfect, just a short walk to the Barbican centre It was all lively, can’t complain.
- Aidan (9/5): Great hotel, friendly and well run, close to the city. - Excellent family run hotel with attentive staff and very clean room, beds and bathroom. Located a very short walk from the city walls made for easy access to York on foot. Parking is limited but it did not cause us an issue as they do their best to accommodate everyone.
- Ilene (10/5): - Location was just a few blocks from downtown. A very easy walk. Everything was lovely.
- Lucas (10/5): -
- karen (10/5): Couldn’t have asked for anything better. - Perfect location, rooms lovely, great breakfast to set you up for the day ! Nothing to dislike
- michael (6/5): Felt more like an Air bnb than a guest house let alone luxury guest house - Location was excellent Room was small for a room described as king room, tv was more like an iPhone on the wall.
- Peter (8/5): -
- Michael (10/5): - Great little B&B
- Seth (8/5): Really nice for a 1 night stay, would come again. - My girlfriend and I both really liked how it was a classic Victorian room and hot chocolate was also provided, really nice staff and no fuss when it came to payment and check in
- Mark (10/5): Luxurious - Luxurious didn't have breakfast Paying extra for breakfast so declined
- Cheryl (10/5): Spotless clean and really friendly. Would definitely go back but would request a bigger bed - Clean and friendly Bed was too small but wouldn’t complain as my partner is 6.4 so king size would of been better
- kirsty (9/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): Very welcoming very friendly hosts and very convenient to York centre - Breakfast was excellent and location was in walking distance to the centre of york Nothing everything was good
- Val (10/5): Rooms were spotless with everything you needed provided Breakfast was perfect nothing was too much trouble for the owner - Cleanliness and everything you needed was provided

- Alison (9/5): - Friendly staff
- David (10/5): Forget the larger hotels, go for these home comforts! - Breakfast was superb. Hot food freshly cooked to order. Good selection of fresh fruit and cereals. Friendly hospitable service in immaculate surroundings. Top notch! Really couldn’t fault anything
- Warren (10/5): - It was perfect for our short stay in York Bed was a bit narrow, we have a super king at home, if you're used to a double you'll be fine.
- Jex (8/5): We enjoyed a pleasant time being looked after by a wonderful hostess -
- David (9/5): -
- Stewart (6/5): Ideal location. Some drawbacks - Comfortable, close to barbican centre and other facilities Cramped bathroom. Sloped roof. Bumped my head several times. Bed too soft. Old mattress needs replaced. Steep stairs.
- Jon (7/5): For almost £400 for two nights, not including breakfast, I had hoped for more. - Location was great, staff friendly. Expensive for what was received. Dated and old fashioned, low power shower, no fridge, very soft mattress. Unfortunately pretty dusty, bathroom particularly.
- Allen (8/5): -
- Tracey (9/5): Great stay. Warm and welcoming. Very comfortable. - The owner was very helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and had everything you need. The bathroom was superb. The lights over the mirror were great for putting makeup on. Was supplied a heater incase it got cold. The parking is a great bonus in this area. Great location for the Barbican Centre and for walking into York centre. The fan in the bathroom was very noisy when it first starts and stops. The bed slopes backwards as the floor isn’t level, but it’s an old building so probably can’t help that.
- Elaine (10/5): - Very welcoming, clean and cosy , near all the amenities aswell Nothing
- Fishie268 (9/5): A gem of a guest house. We will definitely stay there again when we are back in York - We received a very warm welcome when we arrived at the property and were able to park at the rear of the house. Our room was on the ground floor and was a well equipped ensuite double. The tea and coffee tray was well stocked and the bathroom had lots of useful toiletries and accessories. The breakfast was excellent with something for all tastes and dietary requirements. I find it hard to think of anything we did not like at Barbican House.
- Silverwoulf (9/5): -
- Alan (10/5): - Very nice owner, lovely room.
- Millar (8/5): Quiet comfortable and relaxing - Beds were super comfy the hotel was very quiet breakfast was lovely and it was a 5 minute walk to the city centre
- Beverley (8/5): -
- Linda (4/5): - The location was good for the Barbican Centre The room was cold, and the busy road made it really noisy. By no means would I say this is a luxury hotel, its an average hotel which is overpriced.
- Reepa (10/5): -
- Lesley (10/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): A great time was had in York staying at Barbican House with Durga! - Ideally located within a short distance to the City Walls and main tourist attractions. The hotel was very nice. It was a traditional guest house with very comfortable bed and all the facilities you needed for an enjoyable stay. Beans with breakfast!! lol! Couldn’t see beans as an option to choose from. What we did get though was lovely, well cooked and really well presented.
- Amanda (8/5): - Location good very friendly hosts. Comfy bed. Nothing
- Stephen (10/5): Lovely location and very comfortable stay - Great location, close to amenities and only a short walk into the centre Sabine was lovely and friendly and gave great information upon arrival No lift so make sure your ok with stairs
- Mike (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at this property. Durga was an incredibly friendly and welcoming host - he took the time to help us plan our visit and gave us great recommendations for places to see around York, which we really appreciated.
The room was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location is perfect - just a 10-minute walk from the city centre, making it very convenient for exploring York.
Overall, a fantastic experience. Would definitely stay here again!
- Stephen (8/5): All great apart from bathroom door. - Room was clean and very comfortable. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Bathroom door handle was faulty which meant that we were unable to close the door fully without trapping someone inside.
- Michael (7/5): -
- Tracy (10/5): Beautiful house - Excellent service, staff very friendly, breakfast amazing, location brilliant. A little overpriced for the stay
- Jane (10/5): -

- Diana (8/5): Lovely guest house in good location - Location was good and parking area at no extra charge. We didn’t have breakfast which was highly rated by others but the breakfast room was beautifully laid out with china. The room heater was not quite strong enough
- sapna (10/5): - lovely host, beautiful and cozy property, prompt and helpful response.
- Sharon (10/5): Lovely warm and friendly - On arrival we parked at the guest house and met Sabina who checked us in and gave us our key, it was only midday so too early for check in so we explored York first Squeaky beds
- David (10/5): - Great location. Very friendly owner and very helpful. Even saved us a car parking spot. Lovely room. Coffee n tea in the room with a biscuit. Can't fault it All ok.
- Jackie (9/5): -
- Gosnay (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Moritz (9/5): -
- ANTHONY (10/5): The Barbican House York. - Sabrina was very friendly and helpful.
The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean.
We would go back again and recommend the hotel to friends and family.
It is in an ideal location with a short walk into the city. We couldn't fault it, everything was good.
- Barbara (10/5): - We liked the location..it was easy and quick to walk into the own centre..about 8/10 mins.
We liked our room which looked out over the city walls with s view of York minster.
We loved the breakfast..all cooked perfectly.
We loved the family...so hospitable.
- Luke (10/5): - The host was brilliant ! Will defo return.
Luke and evie x
- Irene (8/5): - Sabina Gurung was very friendly, helpful & welcoming. Room was clean & comfortable. Very good breakfast Car parking wasn't straight forward and space was very tight.
My perception was that the property was a bit closer to City Centre, so a slightly longer walk than I was expecting, to find suitable restaurants in the evening.
- Rachel (10/5): Excellent Guest House - A lovely stay at The Barbican House Guest House. Wonderful hospitality, spotlessly clean and a very good breakfast. We selected this guest house to visit The Barbican and it is literally a two minute walk away. We will most definitely use this guest house again and recommend. Absolutely nothing to dislike.
