- Gilly (10/5): Wonderful, highly recommend - We loved the character of the hotel, it is very quirky, interesting and full of an alternative shabby chic, as a refurbished monastery. It was the most relaxing night of our tour from Porto to Lisbon. The two ladies in reception were wonderful. We had a problem with our hired car breaking down and we struggled to sort out our onward journey but the superb hotel staff took over and sorted it all out for us. The hotel is very well located next to the walls of Obidos which we also loved. A stay at the Literary Man is a must. There is nothing to dislike

- Petra (10/5): - This is a wonderful peaceful book hotel right outside the historic walls of Obidos. We were here for 2 nights and the nice staff upgraded us to the S1 suite which was spacious and comfortable. The hotel breakfast was an expansive continental with coffee, teas, juices, fresh fruits, bread, cold cuts, cheese, and many jams to choose from. Large variety of baked goods and there were either scrambled eggs ready or you can ask them make eggs to order. You can sit in the dining room or bright indoor courtyard to enjoy your breakfast. We had dinner one night - both the duck and the filet mignon were very good and the waiter was very friendly. Several common areas are filled with books to explore...including some vintage (I read a great book on history of portugese exploration). The historic town of Obidos can be explored in a day, and while it is very touristy on main street, you can find peace in the side alleys and the whole place gets more peaceful in the evening. For lunch we can recommend the restaurant "1 De Dezembro"...outside terrace, peaceful, shared a grilled fish and a bottle of vino verde...super nice waiter. Enjoy Obidos!

- Steven (10/5): - Absolutely our favorite hotel we have stayed at in Portugal. So cute, beautiful and quirky layout. You will want to explore every corner of it. Our room was huge. More like an apartment. Our huge bed made for a fantastic night's sleep. A peaceful and serene place to hangout during the day. The staff were loved warm and welcoming. The breakfast was delicious there wasn't anything we could want for. The hotel restaurant menu is the best in Óbidos, so many places to eat out in the evening, this place is the best, if you get a chance, even if not a hotel guest, go here, the food and wines are incredibly excellent. Definitely would love to stay here again!!! Ohhhhh honestly there was absolutely nothing to not love about this place!!

Le petit déjeuner est très bien. Une horrible odeur d’humidité dans la chambre et les couloirs qui rend l’atmosphère suffocante et les draps moites. Des traces de moisissure partout, aucun coup de peinture depuis des années. Une vieille moquette marron tachée dans les couloirs.

- Joyce (9/5): Wonderful stay, especially if you like books - great restaurant and central location - I was in a larger room that appeared to be two rooms made into one with a living area and bedroom area. The bathroom was split with a toilet and sink in one room and the shower and sink in a separate room. I really liked the literary theme and enjoyed the multitude of places to sit and read or relax. The location is great, just outside the wall and close to everything in the town. My room was clean and spacious. The restaurant was very good for dinner and the morning breakfasts were plentiful and quite good. The carpet in the hallways is worn in need of cleaning or replacing.

Food in the restaurant was excellent, the best risotto in a long time. No kettle available in room, but got milk from bar as had travel kettle. Pillows were very soft.

- Raisa (10/5): Um sonho literário. - O hotel é incrível! Muito charmoso e acolhedor, além de lindo! O edifício onde funciona o hotel hoje era originalmente um convento do século XIX. Hoje é o maior hotel literário do mundo com um acervo que chega a cerca de 100 mil livros espalhados por todo o espaço. O café da manhã é perfeito, tem de tudo, além do ambiente super charmoso e tranquilo para passar horas em paz e sossego apreciando o café. O local é excelente, há poucos passos você está dentro da muralha. Com certeza voltarei.

- DC1953 (9/5): - Loved the atmosphere; 50,000 books lined the walls with several libraries aka sitting rooms. Excellent breakfast, delicious evening cocktails by a fish fireplace. Close to an entrance into Obidos old city. The ancient wall is striking in the morning as you exit the hotel. Our bathroom sometimes had a 'grey water' odor but staff made some suggestions and it cleared up nicely. It is an old building so understandable.

Le petit-déjeuner était excellent et le restaurant également. La déco est très originale et il y a des livres partout mais vraiment partout. L’hôtel est facile d’accès et nous n’avons eu aucun problème pour parquer la voiture. Il se trouve sous les remparts, à 5 minutes à pied de l’entrée du village.

I actually had a cold when I was there and the books were a little dusty for my allergies. Honestly a great place though, that was just because I happened to be sick at the time.
- Mª Lucila (5/5): Una pequeña decepción, no es un cuatro estrellas - El hotel está bien ubicado y la habitación es muy grande, también la cama es cómoda La habitación era una suite deluxe según la reserva, pero la real no se correspondía con la de la foto. Pregunté en recepción y me dijeron que sí era una deluxe pero la foto desde luego era engañosa, porque tenía maderas y era mucho más acogedora que la habitación real, con paredes pintadas de blanco sin más. También nos correspondía una botella de vino y hubo que pedirla, pues no la teníamos en la habitación. El estado del hotel es bastante mejorable, está deteriorado y huele mucho a humedad. En mi opinión, no es un cuatro estrellas.

- James (10/5): Excellent stay so close to the city wall and side entrance. - Excellent location just a few feet from the city wall and second (not main) entrance. Staff are great. Even accommodated late cancellation. I would stay here again!!! A small thing but it would have been a better mattress. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Had a nice tub too. Note that parking adjacent to the hotel can be hard to find. We arrived at noon and had no problems. There is a free lot near the main entrance of the city wall but probably a good 15-20 minute walk.

L'établissement est très bien placé pour la visite de la ville. Un parking gratuit à proximité est disponible. Séjour parfait !
- Lara (7/5): Ótima localização e restsurante, hotel mediano. - O tema (livros por toda parte) e o ponto alto é o restaurante. Além do restaurante ser lindo, o jantar foi excepcional. Precisa de reformas em vários pontos das instalações. A cama era praticamente no chão, pessoas idosas teriam dificuldade em levantar da cama. As alcatifas estão precisando ser substituídas. Não me pareceu um quatro estrelas de forma alguma.

Las camas se movían y hacían mucho ruido, es una pena que en un hotel tan bonito tenga unas camas de tan mala calidad

- Andrea (10/5): - Das Ambiente des Hauses ist einzigartig. Das Frühstück war exzellent und das Essen im Restaurant war auch sehr gut. Leider war unser Zimmer vertauscht. Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit Balkon gebucht und ein kleineres Zimmer erhalten. Das Zimmer könnte eine Auffrischung gebrauchen.

- Lisa (10/5): Einmaliger Aufenthalt! - Das Hotel ist wirklich einmalig - man lebt quasi in einer Bibliothek! Es ist wunderschön, liebevoll und detailreich aufgebaut. Wir hatten ein schönes Zimmer nach hinten raus. Das Essen im Restaurant war fantastisch! Zudem ist man innerhalb weniger Minuten in der Altstadt von Obidos.
