Guest Reviews
- Katherine (8/5): Comfortable clean accommodation above a pub. - Nice snug room over a pub. Not en suite but the bathroom was next to my room and I was the only guest that night.
- Jeremy (4/5): We were grateful for somewhere to stay at short notice. - The room was clean and warm with coffee and tea making facilities. There was a sink with hot and cold water .There was a bath in the shared bathroom with hot and cold water There was no breakfast. The bathroom was shared with other guests. The shower was cold. The only dinner available was pizza. It was noisy until quite late in the bar below our room. The car park was dark and uninviting with brambles and discarded objects.
- Peter (5/5): Brief - Location No tv connection and still haven’t received our £20 paid on arrival that should have been returned after leaving accommodation in same condition as we found it. We are in our seventies and don’t go round damaging hotels!
- Guest (10/5): Stayed here on a few occasions and thoroughly enjoyed our stays - Location, staff , and the bed! Nothing
- Felipe (2/5): Avoid - Can not find anything I liked Very dark room. Shared dirty toilet. shower with no hot water at night
- Tim (3/5): Never again - Bar was ok but not clean Blood on bedding and towels, whole place not very clean
- Kieran (1/5): Would never stay again or recommend. - The location was the only good thing as it was in the centre of town The room was dated and cold, we where the only people who had a booking but still put us in a room with a shared bathroom. The bathroom was dirty full of limescale and mold, and we were told there isn’t always hot water for the shower! Then to top of off the barmaid decided to have a lock in till early hours of the morning blasting music!
- Andrew (8/5): Comfortable place for a short stay - The place was comfortable and clean, nothing fancy, but it had everything I needed for my stay. The setup was simple and straightforward, which suited me just fine. It did the job perfectly for my quick stop over.
- Andrea (10/5): I loved staying in this pub - The comfortable bed and 4 pillows :-)
- Steve (7/5): - It was cheap and smack in the middle of Ulverston The shower in the bathroom was really poor. Low pressure and just a dribble
- George (7/5): Great location, nice room, low price so no complaints 👍 - The room was small but comfortable enough and clean. The obvious downside is the shared bathroom; on our first night we were the only people on our floor so no problem, but the next day there were several other rooms occupied and getting in to the bathroom was more of a challenge. The Kings Arms is in a super location and we knew in advance about the bathroom so overall a pretty enjoyable stay at a very reasonable price. Shared bathroom!
- Linda (7/5): Clean and comfy. Served out purpose perfect. - It was good value for money. Comfortable and clean. Nothing in particular.
- Simon (4/5): - Sold beer Shared bathroom, not sure if there was breakfast.bad wet patch on the ceiling mould
- Keith (8/5): - Location, very close to the start of the Cumbria Way Shared bathroom which was too much of an issue
- Guest (10/5): Great place to stay, will be booking again. - Great staff and location Clean and basic accommodation
- Phillip (7/5): - The Bed was very comfortable able to get breakfast
- Guest (6/5): Pleasant but with a little attention to detail a stay here could be much improved. - The bed was very comfortable and clean. There were some facilities I would have expected to be there which were not - it is usual these days to find a hairdryer and either a television or radio - none of these were in the room.Tea and coffee facilities were there but minimal and the tea did not taste fresh - perhaps individually wrapped sachets rather than ones clearly taken from a box and put into a jar would have been more acceptable - and hygienic. The bathroom was referred to as a private bathroom, but it was private to anyone staying there rather than private to the room. However, it was clean and comfortable and close to the room.
It was not a quiet night as there was a private function and, being Friday, there were a lot of people out and about, but that was not the fault of the staff. However, it would have been pleasant to have something with which to cover the outside noise - such as a television or radio in the room.
The next morning there was nobody at all about, and it would have been quite pleasant to have somebody at least check that the stay had been comfortable and without problems, and answer any questions - such as where I should put items for recycling. A room information book would have met some of these issues part way, together with relevant information such as nearest facilities should a need arise. perhaps some of this was in the downstairs public area, but the private function rather precluded me finding out.
The staff were very pleasant, although clearly very busy, so my interaction with them was limited to them taking my payment and being led to the room. At payment, I was told that a £10 room deposit would be taken, and refunded after my stay. This did not happen and I had to ring a number of times before anybody answered the telephone to resolve this refund. However, it was dealt with promptly once I finally got through on the telephone.
The faults here mentioned are very minor ones and, with a little effort could easily be addressed. All comments as above.
- JOHN (8/5): No fuss stay.. Good attentive staff. - Handy location for my one day visit to Ulverston. OK.. Basic for my needs.
- Eva (9/5): -
- alan (7/5): -
- Sebastian (9/5): -
- Michael (3/5): - Room scruffy & noisy. No en-suite bathroom option. No hot water in shared bathroom shower. No breakfast option. Advertised dinner options all cancelled.

- John (7/5): - Room - Comfortable bed, kettle, drinks, SMART TV. 8/10
Location - Excellent location in Ulverston and close to the start of the Cumbria Way 9/10
Breakfast - N/A
Staff - Excellent 10/10 Quality of Sleep - Lots of noise until the early hours outside, fine once I fell asleep, but struggled 4/10
- Orchard (6/5): - Dated, very old, squeaky beds, no opening window so very hot.
- Kerry (6/5): Cheap and cheerful and central location. - Central location The whole place felt very unloved. It needs a spruce from top to bottom. The self closures on the bedroom doors were ‘sticking’ and made a loud noise every time anyone opened or closed them. The cold water tap in the bedroom was very slow running. The shower was broken so that only the top head was working. The bathroom was shared and I didn’t feel this was very clear when booking.
- John (8/5): Comfortable friendly hotel above a pub - Location in town centre I’d have paid more for a private bathroom.
- martyn (3/5): Won’t be back - Location No en-suite bathroom cold shower and rooms shabby
- Tony (8/5): - Very clean and comfortable This is an old building bear this in mind a little noisy from the pub downstairs but stopped at closing time

- Guest (10/5): Amazing hotel, very friendly staff, spotless room with an amazing view of the town centre - Room and hotel was stunning, staff were extremely friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed staying here and if I'm ever back in the lakes, I'll make sure to stay here. Top class all around! Nothing could have been better tbh.
- Edward (8/5): -
- Marthe (6/5): -
- Bernice (1/5): Massive regrets - Location was excellent They held a lock in that went on until about 4.00am with really terrible music (Rhythm of the Night, anyone?) and some caterwauling jazz-baby wannabe howling out Nina Simone. They must know how loud it is for guests but that doesn't matter because they take your money on arrival. It was extremely noisy so we had no sleep on the first night at all. The toilet and bathroom was shared which wasn't clear on the advert. Would have been better rested had we been camping. We left feeling like we'd been rinsed and treated contemptuously. It's a real rip off job. Don't book here.
- Guest (4/5): Pub or club - The location of the pub was great for the Cumbria way. The room wasn’t great at all we had a snail crawling up the wall In the room. The frame of the curtain pole had fallen down. When trying to sleep the pub played loud music till 11 at night it was more like a club than a pub how loud the music was. Finally once the music stop we thought we would be able to sleep however people started singing up until 3 in morning. And last of all the pub said that they had to put a deposit on the room for any breakages however I still yet to receive that deposit back as we was leaving early they said it would automatically go back on the account. Would definitely not stay or recommend this place to stay.
- Greg (7/5): Try a Buddhist retreat - Top floor with no telly and shared bathroom in modification mode. Great venue for those who can afford going out on the town to drown their sorrows now that Barrow-in-Furness have shut their boozers for good and become airb&butter instead of dens of iniquity. Start of Cumbria way sign No Telly or radio and last years brochures. No table for the kettle and tea bags.
- Jamie (7/5): It was good - Location Great
The cost Very tired room
Car park hideous
- Stuart (7/5): -
- Jeremy (8/5): - Location, right by the start of the Cumbria Way
- Nigel (6/5): -
- robin (8/5): - Price. Let us park the car for free whilst we walked a few days after staying.
- Sean (9/5): -
- Daniel (8/5): - Great location, friendly staff All was fine
- Michelle (9/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): - Reasonable price for basic but clean accommodation.
- Nicholas (1/5): YOU MUST BE MADE AWARE... - 8 HOURS OF SLEEPLESS DISTURBANCE. Heated arguments and loud cross-conversations between 4 guests in the room below mine. Didn't sleep a wink. No night manager. Guests behave however they choose. The noise was still going on when I left at 7:15 and could be heard from the street. This is a pub with rooms, not a hotel. My advice SAVE YOUR MONEY stump up for better accommodation elsewhere, or if you have the luxury - go sleep in the car. I began messaging the hotel via the app as proof because the messaging system registers the time they are sent. No reply from the pub and my calls go unanswered. So I must assume the management aren't interested in resolving complaints nor improving their business. I wanted a refund but that's never going to happen. This is a rowdy venue where a comfortable night is not guaranteed.
- Sylvain (2/5): Tel un camping en bord de route - Emplacement conforme aux attentes Extrêmement bruyant
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Rachael (7/5): -
- Liam (10/5): - Very reasonablely priced, the council car park is 30 seconds away (if you download the app at the car park it's much cheaper do not use the machine), not overpriced at the bar either and the location couldn't be any better with amenities located withing walking distance, great if ure going to the cartmel races as only 20 mins away and spotlessly clean
- Christian (8/5): -
- Guest (10/5): Exactly what I was looking for - We left too early for breakfast Really friendly and welcoming and great beers
- Frank (7/5): -
- Christian (8/5): -
- Cyrill (9/5): - sehr einladendes Hotel, nettes Personal, angenehme und saubere Zimmer, gutes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis, ca. 10 min Fussweg vom Bahnhof, viele Läden und Restaurants in der Nähe, sehr angenehme Gegend x
- Greg (10/5): Very good value for money in a perfect location - For the money you really can’t go wrong. Very clean and bright room. Shared bathroom but it was only down the hall. I stayed on a Monday night before doing the Cumbria way, they unfortunately weren’t doing food but recommended plenty of other places to go. Also Greggs and a Tesco’s a very short walk away.
- Julie (8/5): - Room at the side saved us walking through the pub area ..Private area for the bike locati Shared bathroom ..however this was stated on booking i just missed it no fault of the hotel ..
- Norman (6/5): -
- graham (8/5): Great location, rooms warm and comfy. Simple check in and check out. Ideal for what I needed. -
- Jack (5/5): A rest after a long motorbike ride - Good beer in the pub Internet down so had to use cash which wasn't too bad
Rooms are rather old and dated, one member of staff using slang when talking to us on first arrival is a little bit disappointing, beds very springy and little uncomfortable
- ron (5/5): Good town , poor hotel - Good location No WiFi so had to pay cash . No shade on overhead light . Parking area in poor condition.
- Andy Eaton (5/5): Ulverston 1 night for dave day - Overall dissapointed room was basic and dated but clean location very good Overall dissapointed room was basic and dated but clean tv was held up on a block off wood (which was irrelevant as it did no work) complimeñtary drinks in room coffee jar was empty i told staff who said they would sort it only to find they had not so i had to go to tesco to buy some so we could have a drink before we leftc, food was average at best both of us did not finish our meals ,would think twice before staying here again .
- Edward (6/5): -
- Scott (8/5): -
- Kenneth (2/5): Unpleasant. - Dirty rooms with little furniture and holes in the floorboards. Shower had no hot water.
- Lawrence (7/5): - Generally comfy and well equipped. After hours access was a great help. The shared bathroom was a little inconvenient but there isn't much that can be done about that
- Jonathon (5/5): Overall good value for money but don't expect any frills. - Good location and the room was a good size for what we paid. The hotel bar had music playing until 10:30pm and next door has music playing until midnight (worth noting it was a Saturday). Additionally, the shared shower didn't have any hot water, although oddly the bath tap produced just enough hot water to manage a wash.
- Helena (8/5): -
- Karen (7/5): Pleasant place to stay. - The room was okay. This is older place that has been done up. The bed was comfortable. The internet worked well. The shared bathroom was clean and tidy. Close to lots of shops and take aways. We parked in their free car park. They take a 10-pound deposit, but you get this back after your stay as long as nothing is broken. Not soundproof. The room only had one towel, and I had to ask three times for an extra towel as there was two of us my husband and me.
- Lisa (4/5): - Lovely comfy bed and cosy room, but needs a good clean.
Gorgeous roll top bath in shared bathroom. The water pressure is terrible which made having a shower hard work, the second day we had a bath but it took a long time to fill up.
No lock on the shared toilet door.
Staff could have been more friendly.
- Claire (5/5): - It was a great location for the start of the Cumbria way. Easy to find. Rooms were clean and well equipped Only one bathroom for all the rooms and the room was right above the neon signs for the pub which meant it felt like daylight all night, making sleeping difficult. It could have done with some blackout curtains or something to help reduce the light coming into the room.
- Aaron (8/5): -
- Karl (1/5): - The lady that served me was friendly and showed me to my room The room was horrid and was probably in desperate need of a refresh some point in the 70s.
The room was hot and the window would not stay open. There was however a lump of wood on hand to aid with this. When the window was open there was lots of noise from the road and drunk people in the street.
- Mooney (5/5): -
- Sophie (5/5): Ok for one night if other hotels aren't available. - Staff were pleasant on our welcome. They made us aware of the exits and the pub itself was clean and hospitable. The room smelled stale when we entered and staff commented on this too. We hadn't realised none of the windows were functional and that our bathroom was shared with other residents so had to be accessed outside of the room. The place felt like it needed a refurbishment. All the doors were tricky and loud upon closing. The bed was uncomfortable.
- Mark (10/5): - Great location in the centre Nothing but you need to know the ins and outs of the rules xxx
- Magee (7/5): great town - the food was amazing and it's in a great location. did not realise it was a shared bathroom when we booked but there were only 3 rooms so it was ok
but probably would not stay there again due to this.ulverston was brilliant lots of pubs great food at the king's arms and a good vibe loved it.
- John (6/5): - location was good no tv in room
- Blaze (1/5): Appalling!! don't stay here.... - Shared bathroom, this was not on the advert, No hot water throughout the whole 4 day stay, room dirty, TV didn't work, bad as hard as wood, staff non existent, no fire exit instructions in the room, security door to outside frequently found open to the street.... absolutely disgusted!!! Everything!
- Jannetje (8/5): - De badkamer was super schoon en het uitzicht was geweldig Bij het raam was het vuil en de luxaflex was vuil
- Jade (3/5): -
- Stephen (7/5): - Centre of everything, great location No en suites!
- richard (2/5): A totally miserable stay - To be honest - apart from a polite member of staff who showed us to our room, nothing No hot water to bathe, shared bathroom - multiple rooms, rigid mattress and pillows, no headboard on a bed that wasnt fully against wall so pillows kept disappearing, bed situated under a window with venetian blinds and a howling draft, no blackout curtain with blinds do light from street all night, just a totally miserable stay.
- Lola (8/5): -
- Ebhota (2/5): -
- Fabiola (3/5): Not good value for money. - Shared toilet. Gap in floorboard. Only one towel set provided for two people. Noisy in the pub below and in the streets up to 12midnight. Tired and dirty carpets. Comfortable bed
- darren (10/5): -
- Peter (7/5): -
- Paul (9/5): -
- Timbs (5/5): Read carefully. - I think it is important to say that many of the images shown for this hotel are untrue and are actually of a different place called The Mill, which is next door. The location is very central. The Thai food delicious and staff welcoming and for the most clean.. Shared bathroom very noisy as bedroom had floorboards with a large gap under door with a spiky carpet bar left to stand on. Found what looked like blood on a decorative bed pillow. No ceiling nightshade, no WiFi, TV (which is stated).
"Car park" around back is questionable. Like driving into a plot of dodgey waste land. Broken glass, rubbish, bricks, large bins. It has not been touched for years by the looks of things. Would definitely struggle to fit large 4x4 through arch if at all and certainly would not fit more than 3 cars max to try and turn or get out. For most, this carpark would probably not feel safe.
- Graeme (6/5): Fine for a single night - Rooms are above the busy bar so it's noisy until late, the town is noisy all night it seemed and the windows did nothing to stop the noise.
- Kai (10/5): -
