Guest Reviews
- Tomas (7/5): - The blankets on the bed are a bit too narrow

- Joost (8/5): Goed hotel voor tijdens een lange hike - Goede locatie dichtbij het roman army museum. Goed restaurant. Ontbijt was fijn. Prijs was de hoogste van alle hotels in onze hike, terwijl het hotel niet de beste was. Prijs is duidelijk op de hikes gebaseerd dat is jammer. Alsnog wel een aanrader!
- Gary (10/5): - The location was perfect for us and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.
- ALISON (10/5): -
- Nick (10/5): - Nice dinner and breakfast.

- Julia (10/5): Good location for Hadrians Way. Excellent staff, very good food. - The staff were very welcoming on our arrival. It was lovely to welcomed with room keys ready and directed straight to our rooms. We were walking Hadrians Way and this location is conveniently placed for the trail.
Attentive and cheerful bar and restaurant staff, great breakfast and dinner. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
- James (9/5): - Food, staff and facilities are great. Room size was challenging for two people with bags.
- Daniel (9/5): - Great food, very clean fantastic value for money Comfortable bed, spacious clean room, lovely food, breakfast was very good quality
- Beau (9/5): - Great place to stay for anyone walking to wall. Good location, just a 40 min walk from the path, but worth it for a comfortable night. Warm. Good food downstairs. Good breakfast. Large room. Comfortable. Nothing - was everything I needed after a long walk 👍
- David (10/5): One of the best hotel stays I have had. - After a climatic experience walking Hadrian’s Wall from Carlisle to here. This hotel was exactly what was needed.
Staff: Faultless, the receptionist and young lady at the bar were super good ambassadors.
Food: Salmon Fishcake, Pork Belly Sunday roast, sticky toffee desert. Faultless in every way; presentation, taste, and texture. Every single vegetable was perfect.
Rooms: Super nice and comfortable. Could do with higher bedside sockets (minor niggle).
Cost: Single room with breakfast £80. Three course meal £40.
Overall
There is a 10% discretionary service card fee for card bills. We left it on and gave more to the staff. Best hotel stay I’ve had for a while.
Overall: Great place and service, the young female staff made our stay a complete delight. Nothing. A superb stay.
- Wendy (9/5): Lovely, clean, warm hotel would definitely stay again. - Good location for Hadrians Wall, room lovely and clean, breakfast was really good and staff very friendly The only thing we could maybe say we didn’t like was the bed. Our room called Sewing Shields was lovely and big and clean but the bed was a double bed, the room was really big and a king size bed would’ve been much more comfortable, also the quilt was too small for the bed, but that is honestly the only thing that we weren’t happy with, it genuinely is a lovely hotel to stay in.
- Lars (9/5): - Tolle Lage am Hadrianwall-Wanderweg.
- Kenmure (7/5): -
- Cameron (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful, and a great breakfast
- Aleksejs (10/5): -
- michaela (10/5): I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, I would recommend it to everyone, even for food alone. - We didn,t need to request anything as all aour needs were catered for.
It was quiet, clean, the food was fabulous, all the staff we met were polite, friendly and welcoming. It was a friendly place to stay. Staff were also knowledgable of the surrounding area which was helpful to us. N/A
- Sarah (10/5): Had the best time as always, Lindsey is our absolute favourite person, she is attentive and her infectious laugh sets up - Location, room, food and staff Nothing perfect every time
- Martin (9/5): - Staff gave good service when over
Loaded Not near another pub
- Lauren (8/5): -
- James (10/5): - Great food, friendly staff and overall just a fantastic pub in a peaceful setting.
- Peter (10/5): - Friendly service,great food ,lovely rooms

- Anita (8/5): - Lovely place, great food, good location. Team seem really motivated and really helpful. I had problem with our room door, key stuck in lock. We were over the kitchen and the chef liked music whilst they worked. Both at night and breakfast time. It was loud and we could hear it clearly. Thankfully it stopped by 10.30, might have been an issue if we had kids but I suppose we should have let them know x
- Ruth (7/5): A friendly hotel and a relaxing stay which was pleasant rather then excellent. - Friendliness of the staff. Ambience in the bar area. High quality breakfast. The aroma of the smell of seafood on entering the hotel was overpowering! Our room was spacious but basic, not to the standard we expected from the photos we had looked at from the website. The shower in our room was limited in power and the water cut off completely while using it! The mattress was of budget quality and not very comfortable.
- Dyson (8/5): Overall we really enjoyed our stay, especially the breakfast, and found lots to do in the immediate - Great hotel very close to Hadrian's wall with very friendly staff. Breakfast was fantastic with quality bacon and sausages. Lots of hot water, and the room was very warm. We enjoyed our stay here. We recommend the stargazing at Twice Brewed. The family room is directly above the bar, so expect some noise until 11pm and from the cleaner vacuuming in the morning. The double mattress could ideally have been better quality.
- Jeff (5/5): Overpriced - Stayed for a family celebration meal at the hotel. The staff were very good. In the evening I had a burger that was nice. The room was a good size. The bath towels were very good. The bed was uncomfortable so had a poor nights sleep. The small en suite smelt slightly of damp. The extractor fan did not appear to work. At £118 for a night I expected better. The celebration lunch was paid for by another family member. The meal was pre ordered several days in advance. The very thin slice of beef was stringy and not easy to cut.

- andrew (10/5): - Breakfast was excellent. Clean and peaceful
- Andrew (10/5): - An exceptional stay near Hadrian's Wall
Our stay at the Greenhead Hotel was nothing short of excellent. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with warmth and attentiveness by every single member of staff. The hotel has a relaxed and homely atmosphere that makes you feel immediately welcome.
The culinary experience was a true highlight. The restaurant offers a menu with a modern, high-quality twist, using the finest locally sourced ingredients. The presentation was very good.
The room was the perfect retreat after a day of exploring. Each of the newly refurbished. The attention to detail was evident, cut glass specialty coffee and local chocolates as complimentary extras. The comfortable bed and well-appointed, modern decor ensured a great night's sleep.
For anyone exploring Hadrian's Wall or the surrounding Northumbrian countryside, the location of the Greenhead Hotel is perfect. It's an ideal base for walkers and cyclists, with easy access to major Roman sites like Vindolanda and Housesteads, as well as the Hadrian's Wall Path itself.
This is a truly first-class establishment.
Even the EV charger worked !

- Simon (9/5): Ideal for pennine way and dogs are super welcome - Super dog friendly and great place Nothing
- Veronika (10/5): - We stayed at the Greenhead as part of our Hadrians Wall walk. Could not have found a better hotel. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff are helpful and friendly. A big shout out to Dan the lovely bartender.
- SUYONG (10/5): - 길가에 있어서 찾기 쉽고 유적들과도 가까워요 바와 식당도 겸하고 있어서 집같은 느낌이 들고요 방의 상태는 넓고 쾌적해요
- David Walker (9/5): Excellent. will visit again for sure - We had an amazing stay at the Greenhead Hotel. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and efficient. We had a few drinks and dinner in the evening, all of which was lovely. The starters were great and the mains were high quality. The bedroom was very warm and cosy (weather was terrible outside) and the bed was really comfortable.
- Chris (10/5): - Beautifully refurbished clean and tidy with lovely spacious bar and dining experience

- David (9/5): Great Place to stay in great location - Great Location, Modern Decor, Great modern Pub The pillows were far too firm. Apart from that very happy with everything
- Tony (9/5): -
- Chris (10/5): Excellent hotel - Really nice atmosphere, food was fantastic and all the staff were nice & friendly
- Judith (10/5): Best hotel on Hadrians wall so far! - Beautifully presented immaculately clean, large car park and a very short walk from Hadrians wall. Evening meal was excellent, using local produce - menu told you which local farm beef came from - lemon was presented in hessian so no pips went on your fish, thoughtful touches throughout. Lovely decor - spotlessly clean -great shower. Comfy bed. Staff could not have Vern mire accommodating- excellent breakfast! Thank you Nothing
- Callan (10/5): Staff exceptional, breakfast and dinner was unreal, room was modern and clean and cosy - The staff, the blonde girl on reception and who also worked behind the bar was fantastic. She really understood that I’d walked Hadrians wall way so had a long day and wanted to walk as little as possible when I got to the hotel. Really understanding with my pack lunch order. The dinner was amazing, fantastic steak. The room was large, cosy, clean. The accommodation is right on Hadrians Wall Way, you’d be daft not to stop here
- Colin (10/5): What a find - What a wonderful find! Room was lovely, clean and comfortable, little touches around the room just made a white room come alive. All the team we encountered were great, food was excellent and service really fast. Beautiful location and will be booking to come back again
- gloria (10/5): - 1 mile from Hadrians Wall wonderful scenery
- Andrew (10/5): Amazing place to stay - Staff were incredible, very helpful and did a great job of hosting us and accommodating our change to schedule after we got the address wrong. Fantastic location for walking the wall and the food was great
- Paula (9/5): -
- Dave (8/5): Very good -
- Gareth (9/5): Delivered all we needed - Food, staff were excellent from checking in to food service and checking out. Nothing
- Jason (6/5): Doggy carpets & too many flies around eating area - The food was excellent
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Excellent value for money with good breakfast included
- Rachel (10/5): Highly recommend, very welcoming and the tastiest breakfast! - Super friendly staff and I was upgraded when I arrived which was really lovely. The room was beautiful and the chocolates were a nice touch. The breakfast was soooo tasty and the waitress was really lovely and helpful (she also had great taste in music!). I'll definitely come back with the family and our dog for a longer stay. Nothing, it was a perfect place to stay and I'd highly recommend.
- Pullen (10/5): The team are very customer focused and did all they could to make our stay special :-) - An oasis of charm - lovely pub, great restaurant and fabulous room. The leaving!
- Mohammed (8/5): Reasonable - Lovely hotel. Bed was a bit creaky though and staff could have been friendlier. The young lady when I checked-in and the other one at breakfast looked like they didn’t want to be there. A smile goes a long way! As above
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Jeremy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christina (10/5): - Comfortable and wonderful food in a picturesque area.
- Laurence (9/5): Enjoyable night in lovely hotel right on the PW - Really nice room , very tasty dinner and ideally located for the PW
- Moles (9/5): Excellent - Excellent hotel with all you need for a good nights rest. The beds were very comfortable with great quality bedding and towels. The breakfast was quality and served fresh and hot, I would recommend the full English.Would definitely highly recommend. We was walking Hadrians wall starting in Carlisle and unfortunately missed the Sunday roast which I was able told was excellent as it stops cooking at 8.00 pm so crisps and nuts at the bar after walking 30 odd miles. Not a dislike as bar had a great selection of beers.
- Peter & Donna (8/5): - Double bed in a room with plenty of space for a king sixe
- Malcolm (6/5): Pleasant - Great location, with good access to hadrians Wall, and other museums/roman sites. Wifi did not work, toilets did not flush well, and took multiple attempts to remove waste. Walls are paper thin.
- Hannah (9/5): Superb -
- Rick (10/5): Very nice experience all around and close to Hadrian’s Wall Path. - Great menu, delicious food, good service and comfortable vibe. All good
- Rebecca (10/5): Lovely Hotel, ideally situated just off the Hadrian's Wall Trail - We stayed at the Greenhead Hotel as part of our Hadrian's Wall Trail adventure walk. It was ideally situated just within walking distant of the trail. Our room was beautiful, really clean, bright and airy. It was expensive but it really lived up to its price point. The staff were just so friendly and the food was amazing. We both said, best breakfast of the week. It was lovely after a day of walking to relax in the sunshine in their garden at the back. Nothing
- Sam (7/5): Good -
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenneth (10/5): - Just a terrific stay! Bar and restaurant were nice and staff were exceptional, especially Charlotte! Room was nice and bathroom was beautiful. Backed onto an old church and cemetery.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location, great service, great food - Fantastic place, well located near Hadrians Wall, with wonderful staff who couldn’t be more helpful. Really excellent evening meal with local beers on draught. List of local ingredients. The breakfast choice was great from berry compote to full
Northumberland breakfast!
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jarvis (8/5): Highly Recommend - Location, Hotel & Food (Breakfast) amazing. Best chunky chips
Staff very friendly Short Stay, Reasonably Priced.
- Damijan (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent. Room was arranged with style and we feel relax after walking the Hadrian's wall.
The dinner in hotel was very good as well as breakfast. Can only reccomend. I have no complains.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Fantastic hotel great value for money. Room & food top quality. Breakfast amazing. Staff really friendly made to feel welcome. Highly recommend. Would highly recommend area for walks Hadrian’s wall Roman forts especially Vindolanda
- Charlotte (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (10/5): Wonderful - Just a fabulous place. Comfortable, great staff, great food. Perfect Nothing
- Edward (7/5): Overall we had a good stay but the room details were less than we expected. - The room was spacious and clean, location was good for walking Hadrian’s Wall, the attached bar and restaurant had excellent food and there were public EV charging points just across the street. The bed was very uncomfortable (flat springy mattress), the TV was very slow to start and the bathroom towels and toilet paper were under stocked. Also the breakfast was only average.
- Eva (8/5): Very good - we’ll be returning! - Very dog-friendly, staff very welcoming and the room was lovely. Food also really nice there. For us it was too warm but after opening the windows for a bit it was ok. Also we couldn’t get the main shower head working so used the secondary one with less water pressure.
- Rick (9/5): Lovely staff and great food - The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was tasty. Wi-Fi not great in room.
- Jacob (10/5): Lovely, Value, and Recommended! - Came here after walking along Hadrian's Wall. Really impressed. Thought it was the best value place that I stayed. Room is comfortable for after a long day walking and the pub downstairs is friendly. Breakfast is included with the rate, which seems to be increasingly rare these days, and is probably what I would have expected – and rarely get – after having been asked to pay elsewhere.
I arrived late, after the kitchen had closed, and the staff were kind enough to make me and my partner a sandwich and a salad from the kitchen which were delicious. Location is great, right along the trail, and I would recommend to anyone to stay here! Very pleased!
- Michael (7/5): Really nice overall lovely small village lots of nice walks around. - Breakfast was very good quality.
Staff friendly.
Lady on the morning serving breakfast very friendly and polite. Room (no7) was very small for 2 adults and a dog.
Charge for dog staying on top of bill we were paying originally even tho pub is dog friendly.
The awkwardness of asking for service charge to be took off.
Pub is more like a restaurant than a country pub no atmosphere or sports on tv.
- Mandy (9/5): Beautiful place, very welcoming and enjoyed our stay. - Decorated tastefully, very clean. Rooms had everything we needed, tea, coffee, water etc. the bedding and towels were pristine. Bathroom was lovely. Staff were very friendly and the place was welcoming. Food was very good. We had pie of the day. Located in a great spot if you like walking or a stop off to tour further North otherwise nothing to do there. The bed was small, my hubbys feet stuck out the bottom of the bed and wasn’t a comfy nights sleep. Woke up both days with back ache. Pillows were so uncomfortable aswell. In the pub area the chairs were really hard so unless you grabbed a bench table, you suffered. There’s also a service charge which we weren’t told about but this was removed when we asked. Points mentioned weren’t a deal breaker but worth pointing out.
- Julie (10/5): - We stayed in the family room which was very spacious, clean and had everything we needed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Had a lovely meal downstairs in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast the following morning. Breakfast was available at 7am which was perfect for us as we were intending to head out for an early hike. The location was also great for our hike and to the sites of Hadrian’s Wall.
- Katherine (10/5): Clean, luxury - Fantastic luxury as we ventured off the wall for the night.
- Knox (8/5): Very good -
- Martin (9/5): Northumbrian hospitality at its best. - Northumbrian hospitality at its best.
Beautiful location, excellent food and staff super friendly.
Will definitely be back but hopefully for more than one night. Will be spectacular in the summer months.
- Adeline (10/5): Fabulous upmarket hotel at an excellent price - Fabulous place to stay, nice quiet area, food excellent and a must for any hadrian's wall walkers.
- Reanne (10/5): Fantabulous - Welcoming, friendly, loved the dog welcome pack. Absolutely loved our stay! Thankyou 😊
- James (10/5): Exceptional - The food was weirdly good. Room was clean and tidy and well equipped. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall brilliant experience, especially for the great price we paid. N/A
- Knox (7/5): Good -
- Damian (9/5): Superb -
- Marija (9/5): Fantastic value for money - The interior is very cosy and warm, the bathroom looks newly refurbished and stylish. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was wonderful. And even though it's right on the road, it was very quiet. Parking is available at the property. Just a matter of preference - I like heavier duvets and this one was quite light and too small for me (I'm tall).
- Ian (8/5): Very pleasant stopover. - Nice old building. Excellent breakfast. The coffee was not up to the five star breakfast
- Brian (10/5): Excellent in every way, highly recommended. - Really lovely place to stay. Great room, good food ( plenty of vegetarian options), and staff were really friendly and helpful.
