The rooms are modern, well equipped and with terraces overlooking the sea. The buffet breakfast is very varied and plentiful. Very friendly staff, owners present and extremely warm. If you like a family atmosphere like the hotels of yesteryear, this is the perfect place.

- traveggie (8/5): Nice family run hotel - This hotel was better than expected. We had a room with seaview balcony on the front. Very nice sitting there in the evening watching the sea and all the people on the car free boulevard. The Double bed was a bit narrow, but it had a very good mattress. There was an inroom safe. The bathroom had a bath, no separate shower, but there was a bidet. Parking is safe in a closed parking area for 7 euro's a night. The restaurant was already closed for the season, but they did have a breakfast buffet, which you could eat inside or out on the terras The first morning we came down around 9.00 at the same time as many other guests. That was a bit of a Covid nightmare with people not keeping distance at all, absolutely not Covid proof, so we made sure to get up early the other mornings and have our breakfast at 8.00 before the other guests, which felt a lot better.The family and staff are very friendly and helpful. Recommended.

- GkayKay47 (10/5): An oasis of calm - Travelling in these uncertain times can be a worry . We had to make a necessary trip and broke the journey in Peniscola. From the moment we arrived at Hotel Bodegon our worries melted away. The family run hotel is typically Spanish and the family are most welcoming . They speak perfect English and nothing was too much trouble . All Covid protocols are adhered to . The hotel is situated right on the promenade which is pedestrianised . Access is from the back road. It is Quiet and calm . And I cannot recommend the hotel and family high enough .

The hotel is in a beautiful location, by the sandy beach, about 30 minutes stroll from the busy part of town. The hotel has an excellent restaurant, serving a wide variety of delicious food. All the members of staff are efficient and friendly. There is plenty of private parking. There are other bars and restaurants nearby. It was a pleasure to stay at such a well-run, traditional Spanish hotel, full of character. We would love to stay there again.

Just spent a wonderful 10 days relaxing at the Hotel and it really is a fabulous spot. The location of the Hotel couldn't be better, being right on the beachfront. Cristian and his staff really do go the extra mile to accommodate their guests. The bar and restaurant are excellent and the place is super clean. Definitely the best place in town and i look forward to visiting again in the near future!!!

The hotel staff are extremely kind and helpful to make your stay a good one. Great place if you have a car as parking is easy and cheaper than any of the surrounding areas. The hotel, as we knew from a previous visit for dinner, is in an enviable location facing directly onto a quiet, almost deserted area of Peniscola beach. Our traditional style room was comfortable and spotlessly clean and well worth the upgrade price for the splendid balcony views. The inclusive breakfast was great, served on the lovely terrace. We ate in the restaurant several times and were very happy with the home cooked and delicious offerings and reasonably priced wine. We would like to thank the hotel owners and staff who were, without exception, delightful: unfailingly friendly and helpful.

Aun asi, el costo del hotel no guarda relacion con su categorizacion, es un punto importante cuando se emprende un viaje de muchos dias por el resto esta muy bien

Valencia, snº 12598 Peñíscola, ES In mid-June, four of us as two couples, were on holiday and making our way down the eastern seaboard of Spain, from Barcelona. The town of Peñíscola seemed a good stop as it is a smallish town with a population under 8,000, and Hotel Bodegon sits right on the waterfront with wide beautiful beaches and a nearby historic thirteen-century castle. We had made our reservations the month before, as is recommended throughout the summer season, because it is a popular holiday destination. We arrived mid-afternoon and were greeted by one of the owners, Jacqueline, and later we met her brother, Christian. They run the hotel and both were friendly, courteous, helpful, and each spoke English even though we spoke some Spanish. This lovely and comfortable hotel has fifteen double rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Our room was on the third level that faced the sea with a balcony that even went around the side. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and neat with a desk, TV, tile floors, and air-conditioning. After showers, a rest, and a change of clothes, we met up with our friends downstairs for drinks. We sat outdoors under their wide veranda so we could stare out to sea and watch the people go by. Our friends had Rosado (rose) wine and we enjoyed some of the best piña coladas that we had ever had, though the couple near us raved about the mojitos. We also ordered some appetizers of delicious green olives, Manchego cheese, and barbecue chicken wings. All this and the sea air had only peaked our appetites, so we decided to move indoors for the full dinner menu. It was only 7:30, at least an hour before Spaniards eat, but we were still on American time, and the hotel was happy to serve us. We sat next to wide and high windows on two sides for an expansive view, with lower windows open. The room held at least a dozen wooden tables with tablecloths of red covered with white cloths. Two of us had the Monk fish which came with some shell fish. A third had the steak with Roquefort sauce and our fourth member had a capresa salad with tomato, buffalo mozzarella, and walnuts. Everything was delicious and the service good. Afterward, we walked the boardwalk heading south for a short ways, enjoying the warm breeze. Then we retired for an early night to get a good night’s sleep. When we retired to our room, the room was stuffy so we opened the French doors and enjoyed the boardwalk nightlife and warm evening breezes. This was fine for us as long as we were awake. But the distracting noise below with chatting people walking by, late night diners in the restaurant, and some music from the restaurant next door, had us close the doors when we wanted to sleep. We reminded ourselves that the air only goes on when the windows and doors are closed. At first, we were puzzled when it still would not go on, and then we realized that the batteries were used up in the air-conditioning remote, so we simply exchanged them for the ones in the TV remote, which we never watch when we are on vacation, anyway, and then the air-conditioning worked great. Two of us are early risers, so the next morning we went downstairs for some coffee, but the door to the restaurant was locked. Please note two things: The owners live off the property and lock up the restaurant until they arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 am. And, it is tricky to exit the front door of the hotel unless you know how. If you plan to get up early and want to leave for a walk, ask them how to exit out the front door, the night before. Soon though, we were again sitting in the hotel’s outdoor patio, and ready for breakfast. The indoor buffet is ample. They offer hard-boiled eggs, fresh tomatoes, croissants and breads, fruits, cheeses, meats, yogurts, cereals, and small cakes, with a coffee machine that gives several options. After breakfast, we wanted to go to the Papa Luna castle which we could see in the distance to the south. Not knowing how long we would take, we checked out, placed our suitcases in the car, which is safe in the hotel’s front private parking lot, and we left our computers at the front desk. The castle is only three kilometers away and would be a nice walk, but we opted to rent next door a four-person covered bike, and we pedaled along the wide sidewalk, where it is indicated for bikes to travel. However, that pathway runs out after one kilometer and one needs to take bikes on to the street for the second kilometer. Just be careful, it is a busy thoroughfare. Then there is a place near a large circular plaza where bikes can no longer go, but can be locked up. One must walk the last kilometer, and then up the hill to the castle. (See review of castle.) Note: The four-person pedal bikes are relatively heavy so it is not as easy to pedal as one might think. They also have single and tandem bikes. We returned three hours later, fetched our laptops and left, very happy with the Hotel Bodegon, its food, service, amenities, and lovely hosts.
- carolinebS1596SX (10/5): Comfy hotel, super clean, excellent location - We stayed at the hotel for a night on a journey from Barcelona to Alicante. The hotel staff were friendly and both the room and hotel were immaculately clean. It is in a good location, virtually on the beach with plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance. The hotels own restaurant was also really nice so we ate there and had a gorgeous paella. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit the Peñíscola area.

- Gita (10/5): Beach living :) - This hotel is right on the beach and we went to sleep listening to the waves. The breakfast is simple but fine and we we're outside people watching the world go by on the boardwalk. The people working there are lovely and on for a chat. The location is great, as I said right on the beach, but also close to restaurants. We loved the Mexican restaurant about 900m down the street. The castle is also visible from the hotel, and worth a visit.

- RICARDO M (10/5): Hermoso y muy cómodo hotel sobre la Playa de Peñis - Estuvimos de paso por Peñiscola, para encontrarnos con amigos españoles y conocer el castillo del Papa Luna, así que reservamos una noche en este hermoso y muy cómodo hotel sobre la Playa de Peñiscola. Excelente atención y muy buenas comodidades, estuvimos alojados un Dpto. con dos habitaciones y baño para cuatro personas. El desayuno fue excelente y la atención de su dueño digna de destacar. Tiene estacionamiento, que es otro dato que hay que tener en cuenta cuando viajas en auto. Sin dudas volveríamos en otra oportunidad.
- Neatham (8/5): Balcony with sea views - We had a very comfortable stay at the Bodegon. The hotel is charming, staff are very friendly, and our room was cosy. We had a little balcony with sea views, and as the area was quiet overnight, we could hear the waves crashing onto the beach.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Friendly staff - The staff goes out of their way to make sure you feel welcomed and comfortable. The hotel is a cute little 2 story place right on the beach. The beds were a little soft, and noise travels, but for the price, the amazing location, and super kind staff, I think it's a great find.

- nadiaa535 (10/5): Relax and dine by the sea - This is our second time in Hotel Bodegón. Location is ideal, just right in front of the beach; 20 min walk from Peñiscola Castle and 4km from Benicarló. It's a perfect spot as it's not as crowded as Peñiscola and you can still benefit from its surroundings. The rooms are basic - although we would have preferred a double bed - but good enough for a holiday by the beach, but I must mention it's level of cleanliness! We always feel like home. The restaurant food and service for either breakfast, lunch or dinner is really enjoyable. The staff and in particular Cristian and his sister are so lovely and attentive. I requested oat milk for my coffee at breakfast and every morning I was looked after. Will definitely come back!! Thank you :-)
- shelley (10/5): Beach treasure - Loved the Hotel Bodegon! The staff was friendly and very helpful. They even knew some English. Would definently stay again. Great family vibe and the beach is right there!!
- LDTCardiff (8/5): Great location - This hotel is in front of a lovely long beach, separated by only a cycle track. It is a small family run hotel, that does not have the facilities of larger hotels, but it is friendly and welcoming. Rooms are very basic, but clean. Food is good. The town is small but worth staying for three or four days, or longer if you want to enjoy the fantastic beach and enjoy a seaside holiday. A great advantage is that this is where Spanish people go. It can get busy, but not with 'foreigners' (like us!).
- N635PKrichard (10/5): Friendly hotel - Nice hotel right on the beach. Really relaxing. Staff very friendly and helpful. Bus service nearby. Great food in the hotel. Castle's amazing, and Benicarlo's worth a visit, and the natural park nearby's lovely. Locals very friendly. A great, relaxing holiday.
- Dimag (10/5): Hübsches Hotel unmittelbar am Strand - Das familiengeführte Hotel liegt unmittelbar am Strand. Es unterscheidet sich wohltuend von den umliegenden Hotelburgen. Von der Terasse hat man einen uneingeschränkten Blick aufs Meer. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
- jenonhols (8/5): Good Stop over - Small & friendly, good halfway point from Spanish Pyrenees to Alicante. Secure enough parking area for a fully loaded car & were able to lock our bikes inside the hotel reception area. Breakfast alfresco was adequate with a lovely view of the coast. Burnt my toast to a cinder as I've never come across a toaster which has not got an automatic pop up!
- elah228 (10/5): A great time - booked this hotel for its beach location and was not let down. Great little gem, traditional Spanish feel, basic but everything you need and very clean. The staff are really great Jacqueline checked us in and gave us local information, very pleasant young lady. Infact, all the staff are good are go out of their way to please. peniscola is a lovely resort, go and look around the castle area. None of the usual english style resort bars made a very welcome change. We will be back. Food at the hotel is very good and it gets busy for both lunch and dinner.
- Harry (10/5): Like family. - Christian and family were the best. Great location. They really made my family and myself feel extra special. I would definitely repeat my stay in the future.
- Catherine (6/5): Traditional hotel in good location - The hotel is older style which we liked. There was no lift so this may be a disadvantage for some people. It was okay for us and the owner offered help with luggage. The owners were very helpful and the position on the waterfront was really nice. We walked along the beach to the castle, an interesting building historically. It took about 30 minutes. Breakfast was very basic, lacked nutritious options like whole meal bread and better quality cereals. The cafe/bar area was lovely. The owners need to look at supplying bottled water (many hotels in Spain do offer free bottled water) At the restaurant we paid for a bottle of water. It came in a glass bottle but I thought it had been poured from bottled water. It was obviously tap water as I was quite sick after. Apart from this we enjoyed the stay.
