• garylG7494KK (10/5): Significantly exceeded our expectations. - Rob and Catherine were excellent hosts. Super clean, personable staff and engaging conversations. Breakfasts were high quality and Bruno the pomeranian was always there to greet us everyday. We were planning to stay only 1 night, but because of they're hospitality we extended our stay one more night. I highly recommend this B&B to all. The hummingbirds were another awesome feature.
• bookwifey (10/5): Beautiful and unique place - This is a wonderful little gem not far from Nuevo Arenal. The rooms are lovingly decorated and large. Try and get one with a balcony to overlook the small lake and watch the birds. Breakfast was great, and so were our hosts. Try the Apfelstrudel, if you get a chance, it is very good.

• tyagi (10/5): Very pretty & close to the lake - One of the prettiest hotels in Costa Rica. My room was large and lots of ceramic turtles & iguanas on the wall. The property was full and flowering shrubs and flowers. And the breakfast was excellent each morning.
• alE578FW (10/5): A Gem! - A friend recommended this B&B and I am so glad I could experience it. The warmth of the hosts is unmatched. The setting is beautiful and the price is right! We enjoyed a relaxed, delicious breakfast overlooking their pond. Located in the midst of the Cost Rican greenery, the longer you look, the more you see. Don't rush through but enjoy the beauty right there. The gift shop offers well selected offerings not seen in every tourist shop around. Wifi was good and accommodations very comfortable. Note for some - there is not ac. I am not a fan of ac so it is fine for me but some people may be surprised.
• RenzoGeorgia (10/5): Staying at the Welcoming Lucky Bug Feels Like Home! - I cannot tell you exactly how many times I’ve stayed at the Lucky Bug on Lake Arenal! 10-15 times? Staying at the Lucky Bug simply feels like coming home. The rooms are clean and comfortable, & tastefully decorated with handmade art throughout. The owner/hosts, are always warm and welcoming. The art gallery onsite is the perfect place to shop for special souvenirs and home decor, all handmade in Costa Rica. The artistic items for sale are so unique, unlike other tourist shops which all carry the same items. The breakfast, included with your overnight stay, is generously proportioned and so delicious, even groups of local workers in the area stopped in for a bite while we were there. The small lake and tropical gardens on the property are worthy of a visit themselves! With so many options for accommodations around Lake Arenal, the Lucky Bug is a stand out choice!
• Todd (10/5): - What a gem! Location was perfect. Host was helpful, kind and very personable. Breakfast was delicious. Loved our stay in the Sunshine room.
• Laurie (10/5): - I was met at the property by Rob, one of the two owners, who showed me to my room. The room was well-appointed and the bathroom was exquisitely decorated in tile and tasteful additions. Rob handed me soap wrapped in leaves from the land. He left as I settled in, but returned later to see if I would like an individual pizza as he and Monica were going out. He returned later with not only the hot and tasty pizza, but also bottle of wine to go with it. This visit was also preceded by travel misfortune. Again, I had no WIFI, and I wasted an hour or two going around in circle in Grecia. Then, when I hit the "highway", I still had no WIFI, so some mis-turns led to a near empty gas tank again. I asked for help from a gentleman walking on the side of the road. The nearest gas station was too far for me to drive with almost no gas. So, this gentleman, Luis, led me to his house, called his friend Fernando to come over, get a gas can, and travel the distance to pick up two gallons of gas. As we waited for him to return, we shared pictures of our families, drank, Coke and ate some of those wonderful Costa Rican cookies. Just as we finished, Fernando came with the gas. He filled the tank, left, and I requested his and Luis' address. I am so impressed with the all Costa Rican people I have met who go out of their ways to be friendly and helpful to me - a total stranger. The hosts of the places I have stayed during this trip have been gracious, thoughtful, and wonderful!

• 552wojciecho (10/5): Hidden gem - What a gem! What was to be random stop for lunch after windsurfing, turned to be delicious dinner with desert. Apple strudel of course So peaceful. So tastefully decorated. We had a view of the lake with 2 iguanas on the tree and hummingbirds flying around. What a great food !
• sallybP5348NW (10/5): Amazing German food and beautiful calming atmosphere! - Oh my goodness! We stopped here for lunch on the way to the airport in Liberia and were blown away by the beautiful atmosphere and outstanding food! We were able to buy real locally made pottery pieces in the craft store then settled in for the most authentic German food we have ever eaten. The homemade slices of corn beef on the Reuben sandwich were half an inch thick and the sauce, homemade sauerkraut and black bread all culminated to create the best Reuben sandwich I’ve ever had. Of course after such an incredible meal we had to finish it off with the warm homemade apple strudel. This is a must stop!!

• Sammy1Canada (10/5): Wonderful, Wonderful - What a wonderful, wonderful B@B. We were there Feb.7-Feb.8. with our neice and husband. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. Next year we will spend more time. Monica and Rob are very welcoming hosts and even opened up the restaurant for us for dinner. Delicious food!!! {breakfast included} The rooms are very clean with comfy beds. You can tell that Monica has put a lot of thought and effort into decorating the rooms with authentic Costa Rican articles. The grounds are spectacular with so many different plants, bushes and trees. It was wonderful to walk around the pond and discover something new around every corner. There is a gift shop with genuine Costa Rican pottery, soaps etc.. Don't miss out going to this lovely place. You will feel welcomed, you will be surrounded by beauty and the sound of birds, you will sleep like a log and on top of all of that, it comes with a reasonable price. Ann {Patricia}and Jim H.
• Y1715MVsusanj (10/5): Paradise with a pond. - We enjoyed 5 nights in this serene paradise. Especially rewarding for birdwatching with aracaris and hummingbirds galore. The gardens are breathtakingly beautiful. We were lucky to score the butterfly room with a balcony, our friends had a smaller room, so we all squeeved onto our balcony to stargaze. Enjoyed hanging at gazebo, dips in the pond, and really delicious meals, Monica is an outstanding chef. Got some great treasures at the gallery and enjoyed an excellent therapeutic massage with neighboring business owner Sheryl Lilly. Book her for sure. +506 8888 7343.
• Susan (10/5): - Hosts Monica and Rob go above and beyond. Monica is a very gifted chef. Everything was perfect. Great birdwatcing, even took a couple of refreshing dips in tbeir pond.
• Daniel (10/5): Peaceful Retreat - Lucky Bug was a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The host greeted us warmly as he showed us to our room. The artistic touches in the room and on the grounds mirrored tactfully much of the external natural beauty of the place. The stars were beautiful upon our arrival (which may not be the norm) and the music of nature chorused loudly changing its tune to silence in the middle of the night to a new chorus of birds as the night progressed to day. The balcony of our room was a great place to sit and birdwatch while waiting for breakfast time. The food was fantastic and the view from the opposite side of the pond was also lovely. The service was warm and welcoming. We arrived by the road from La Fortuna after dark. There are no lines on the narrow serpentine road making it a bit of a stressful night drive. By day the same road had many lovely views.
• emencik (10/5): We're the Lucky ones having stayed at the Lucky Bug B&B! - We just finished a 2 week trip in Costa Rica from Arenal area through to Jaco area then up through Tamarindo area back to Liberia airport home. Our first stay was at then Lucky bug and I have nothing but accolades for and wonderful memories of our 3 nights at Lucky Bug! The rooms was perfect, clean, comfortable, great view from our little balcony of the most beautiful gardens and stunning landscapes that the owners have poured many years of Love and labor into. Absolutely beautiful. The bed was super comfy. The breakfasts were fabulous and the breakfast room area a short stroll up the driveway was beautiful, comfortable and has the best music in the background- it just made my day perfect! An abundance of flora and fauna, hummingbirds, other birds made the breakfast experience complete. Our hosts were wonderful too- lots of tips on where to go, what to see and great conversations just sitting in the breakfast /coffee area. I wish we had booked a few more days in the area.

• TimA_22233 (10/5): Delightful, happy, beautiful, comfortable. A rare gem. - At the time I'm writing this, there are 370 existing reviews, 367 of which give the rating Excellent or Very Good. And here's one more. If there was a university course on How To Make a Hotel/Resort, Lucky Bug should be one of the lessons; with videos and a detailed diagram of the property. Lucky Bug -- both the B&B and the restaurant -- is one of those rare locations that does everything right. This is one of the few places I've stayed in that could teach Disney World how to do it better. Walking the grounds is a tropical daydream, eating a meal (with those elfin hummingbirds) is Latin American luxury straight out of cinema, turning in for the night means you go to a room that's decorated in a theme, and waking up includes a chorus of tropical birdsong. The founder, Monica, must be / have been a lady of phenomenal creativity and vision. This place is more than just a beautiful place to stay; it's very close to being a work of art. It's unanimous (or close to it): you're a lucky traveler if you stay at the Lucky Bug.

Beautiful spot right on the water with amazing food! Hubby owner was our waiter and his amazing German wife was the chef. Stopped into the gift shop which had handmade artisanal gifts and bought a gorgeous hummingbird made of wood. Their dog Bruno was a great addition to the staff!
• cullen13 (8/5): Lovely B&B with stunning grounds - We stayed at the resort for 4 nights. The grounds are stunning, and we saw the most wildlife on our trip in the onsite gardens. The accommodation was adequate but seriously needs updating. The breakfast provided each morning was delicious, and the owners were very friendly and helpful. We liked the location, and we're about 45 minutes from La Fortuna. We used the local zipline company and found them to be reasonable and a very enjoyable trip (5mins from b&b). We ate in Moyas locally, food was great and live music.
• E3541RYcarrieg (10/5): Lucky Bug Inn - A little slice of heaven! - We stayed at the Lucky Bug B&B for 7 days during our vacation to Costa Rica. I don't know where to start...I don't even have the right words to best describe our stay - other than simply amazing. Rob and Monika are such kind hosts - served the most delicious meals and were always around if we needed anything or had questions. The have an adorable dog Bruno and a lovely little cat that visited us every morning, which made our stay even more special. Our room was so cozy, and had everything we needed - we even cooked dinner in the little kitchen a few nights. No air conditioning but a portable fan and ceiling fan kept us quite comfortable. There are screens on the windows (which was a must for me) so we were able to keep the windows open for air flow. Our room had a lovely little veranda, which is where we spent our evenings with a drink overlooking the beautiful property. The restaurant in the main building also has the most incredible view, along with multiple hummingbird feeders where you will see hummingbirds galore. It sure is a little slice of heaven - and we were terribly sad to leave on our last day.

• bigdog1418 (10/5): Caballo Negro is a must try - Arrived at Caballo Negro to explore more of Arenal and what a beautiful restaurant located along with the Lucky Bug B&B. Beautiful outside sitting, as well as inside. We sat and watched the hummingbirds drinking on the 5 feeders, while waiting for our breakfast order as we drank our coffee. And passion fruit drinks. My brother ordered Eggs Ranchero and I Corned Beef hash and eggs. Both were incredible and made from scratch by Monica the chef and owner.

Great covered patio seating with fantastic views of hummingbirds all around - couldn't have been a more pleasant way to have breakfast/brunch!

• C Girvani (8/5): - Lovely unique property. Needs better lighting and needs to give better check in directions. Most obvious place labeled “Lucky Bug” was dark and locked -turns out this was breakfast place/restaurant and souvenir shop. B and B was down the road and not well marked in the dark ( my flight was cancelled and I arrived later than planned, just at dark. I sent a message but got no response) My room was advertised as “lake view” -turned out it was not Lake Arenal, but a pond on the property. Owners/ staff were very nice, and assisted with luggage which was great since I had been up all night at airport.

Beautiful grounds, quiet and the hummingbird feeders attract lots of them. The owners are friendly and fun. Very relaxing experience. Beautiful fauna. Good place for kids.

We selected the B&B based on other reviews and we were so glad we did. Check-in was easy and quick; we were greeted by Monika, Rob, and their cats and dog (which my son loved!). We were able to park our car right next to the B&B, which is set back away from the main road and through a gate that is closed to those not staying at the B&B. We lucked out since we were the only ones staying that evening; it was very peaceful and the property is beautiful. It felt like a private oasis. We spent walking around looking at the flowers and plants and the pond on the property in the evening and again in the morning. It felt like we were far away from anyone and everything. Our stay in the sun-suite was perfect for us, as there was a big bed and then two other beds, a small kitchen, and living area to spread out. We enjoyed coffee in the room and on the patio in the morning before going to breakfast. In the morning, we had a fresh homemade breakfast with fruit, eggs, toast, and juice and coffee overlooking the pond and with hummingbirds flying nearby. A duck on the property provided some entertainment to my son, and Monika let my son feed the duck, which he was happy about, too. We were sad to leave; my son asked if we could stay "so many nights" at Lucky Bug, but we had to be on our way. Thank you so much to Monika for her hospitality and for providing a comfortable, peaceful, and all-around lovely start to our trip. Would stay here again :)

• Michelle (10/5): Amazing place to stay! - What an amazing place! The setting is absolutely gorgeous! The owners were so attentive and helpful and the breakfasts were the best we had our whole trip. We decided to eat at the restaurant the first night and our meals were so good that we ate there our second night as well. We used this place as our base to explore from and are really glad we did. Highly recommend the Lucky Bug!

• Edward (10/5): - The owners were exceptionally nice to deal with and they treated us like we were family. We felt like we were friends by the time we left. They have quite a bit of acreage on the property and it backs to the surrounding forest. Highly recommended for those people who do not want to stay in those big tourist hotels.

• Denise (10/5): get away - Great food!! Monica is from Germany and I have not had as good food since I lived in Germany. The hummingbird feeders are always full and busy with 4 to 5 different hummingbirds. There are other birds in the garden area. Lots of frogs to listen too at night as well. Clean and friendly. I would stay here again anytime.

• Verified traveler (8/5): Lake Arenal area B&B - The facility is excellent, well maintained, and our room was quiet and nice. The included breakfast is freshly prepared, good and varies each day. The restaurant is not always open in the evening, depending upon how many guests or locals arrive at it fairly early that night.
• hans (10/5): Great place for your visit - This B&B is gorgeous. It is small (maybe 4 or 5 rooms) facility on beautiful gardened property. There is a small lake with a canoe you can use. The breakfast area is in the restaurant a small walk around the lake. The attached gift shop is realy more of an art shop with higher quality items than most places. We used this B&B as the launch pad to visit Rio Celeste. (about an hour away over the mountain -- much on a relatively well mainatined gravel road) If we were to do it over, we would stay here much longer and also use it as a base to do the activities in the tourist area of MT Arenal and La Fortuna. -- THIS IS SO MUCH MORE LIKE THE RELAXING PLACE YOU GO TO COSTA RICA FOR I didn't mention the swarms of hummingbirds having breakfast with you. • Suyapa (10/5): - This property is located in the middle of the forest. You can hear all the creatures that live there. The aesthetics, the layout, the details are all beautifully done. The breakfast was delicious and they were really good portions.

Always lots of birds to watch, monkeys and Coatis often in the area and a short little jungle walk with sighting poison dart frogs a possibility. Our new favorite place to visit in Costa Rica. Only slight complaint would be the beds could be a bit more comfortable.

• Linda (10/5): Beautiful and serene - We were greeted by the owners who we chatted with and then were shown to our room which is a separate building to where the owners live. We had the turtle room which was very charming and colorful with windows that opened onto the rainforest. Bathroom has a beautiful sea creature painted bowl and a shower. The grounds are incredible, there is even a small butterfly conservatory to walk into. There is a small lake which is surrounded by rainforest and flowering plants and was jaw droppingly beautiful. Above the lake there is the circular restaurant where we had a delicious breakfast each morning served by the owners. Sitting there over looking the many hummingbirds and other large birds feeding was such a sight 😊. Rob and Monica were very helpful in advising us of the area and distances to the various places. We went to the hanging bridges from there and Lake Arenal, ate at a local place for dinner called Moya’s Place. Felt very much at ease and at home with Lucky Bug and will definitely recommend to others and come back again 😁
• Gerhard (10/5): Unique Hotel - This place is an amazing creation of a rain forest and garden landscape. Closer to the main road road is the restaurant for breakfast and lunch overlooking a small lake. The architecture and interior is unique and is completed by a gallery with local art work. My wife is a gardener and when she walked the grounds she was amazed about the different plants growing there (me not being interested in gardening and plants as much, have to trust her "Ohs" and "Ahh's" as she was mighty impressed.) There is even a small enclosure in the garden with all kinds of butterflies, where one can watch them close up and personal. If you are looking for a peaceful place to clam down, disconnect from hustle and bustle and connect with nature this is the place to be. It is a magical place the hosts have created. The breakfast was the best we had on all our tour. Brilliant presentation, nutritional balanced, and very tasty. The guesthouse is clean and simple but very nice and tasteful decorated. The hosts Monika and Rob are the real thing, very kind and gracious host concerned about their guests and a real pleasure to joke and laugh with.
• Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful place to stay - The setting for the B & B is beautiful. The room was unique and comfortable for a family of 4. Breakfast was amazing. Each day was a different entree (best French toast ever one morning) accompanied by an array of fruit nicely plated. The hosts made suggestions about places to visit in the area and helped with making reservations.
