Guest Reviews
- Heather (6/5): - Great little hotel with friendly staff. Large garbage bin not secured and saw a bear climb
- John (8/5): - Motel is family run and they were very nice and accommodating. Motel is older and dated but clean. Thanks.
- Nicole (8/5): - Staff was excellent and accommodating.
- Kelly (10/5): - This property was very welcoming to pets and everything was thoughtfully provided. Will book here again.
- Ashley (6/5): - The staff were very friendly. The property is older and so should be a little bit cheaper. The food portion were really small for the cost of and they need to have better bear control. The place itself was very clean and while I was there, it was quiet.
- Kristine (6/5): - The cabin we stayed in was in need of a renovation and not as nice as the photo in their ad. There was garbage in the yard, clearly from an animal getting in the trash that needed to be cleaned up. We went to the restaurant, but they were offering takeout only.
- Elena (4/5): - The room smelled bad, I have to air it out before we’re staying in. The curtains and blanket were torn, mattress had obscene marker drowning on it that can see through sheet. Even after 10 hours driving it wasn’t pleasant to stay for the night! Bathroom definitely needs cosmetic repair.
- william (6/5): - Motel is old and needed to be renovated. The price is good.
- Elena (10/5): - Easy to access, nice property
- Charles (10/5): - It felt clean
- Mark (10/5): - Easy check in, cabin was clean and cozy. Loved that it was pet friendly. Would stay again.
- Jim (8/5): - Clean comfortable room in great location.
- David (8/5): - Nice place. Comfortable. No concerns.
- Mari (8/5): - Its not a bad place. Good for one nite. Quiet & clean. Beds are fairly comfortable. Liked that we could have our dog stay with us.
- Stephanie (8/5): - Delicious food at the restaurant!
- Ishwar (6/5): - There were lots of mosquitoes
- Linda (4/5): Not for us… - (#4) The room was not comfortable at all. The flooring (carpet) had a musty oder and felt damp. There is no A/C in the room. Pillows were flat and probably really old. We used our own. They could use some fresh paint on the walls and doors. Key pad with code to enter the room. Anyone could enter that room with a code so a bolt for the door would make it more secure. We had driven for 14 hours and if we weren’t so tired we wouldn’t have stayed here. We only stayed one night.
- Gaye (8/5): - Convenient
- Kate (6/5): - Fine place to stay. A little older, shower curtain was ragged at bottom and stained, no AC. But fan provided and mini fridge and microwave a big plus. Good value for the price.
- Natasha (8/5): - Motel is easy to get to and one of the few places that allow pets.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - The code for door sucks and the handle is ready to fall off. Otherwise it is fine but very warm in room.
- Jihua (10/5): - Very nice place for temporary stay.
- Paul (8/5): - Nice place
- Donna (8/5): - Bed was comfortable beside hwy 17
Northern Ontario wifi and TV no issues
Plenty of hot water, limited food on Sundays in Wawa. Suited us for the night.
- Hal (6/5): - Everything but Breakfast very good. Red Hots are not sausages. Half a bacon strip halved again and thin toast not toasted. One cup of coffee. 20.00$
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Delicious food, super clean rooms, very friendly staff.
- dan (10/5): - Right off the road, quiet, friendly staff, clean and they even had a restaurant on premises.
- Roy (6/5): - The Best Northern Hotel is relatively clean and inexpensive. If thatis what you are after it may be what you are after.
- Viola (8/5): - Excellent service on late check-in, helpful people, nicely kept grounds, comfortable clean room, nicely furnished, heaven gor a very weary traveller with dog. Breakfast menu in restaurant looks terrific. Will defijitely put this on my stay again list.
- Sylvie (6/5): - The room could if been cleaner . Some electrical outlets were not working . Extension cord in the room.
- Patricia (10/5): - I really appreciated get a ezy acsses to the room with out asking for it.
- David (8/5): - It had a nice feeling like staying in a cottage.
- Deborah (8/5): Good hotel for the money - The room was clean and fresh smelling, but no air conditioning. It wasn’t necessary though because it was cool at night. Excellent shower pressure. The food service was slow in the morning, the coffee wasn’t made when we entered the restaurant at 8:10.
- Gregory (8/5): - Clean comfortable room, easy access from the highway, friendly staff and great food in the restaurant.
- Aleitha (10/5): - I really liked the rustic woods feel. The cabin was very spacious and had a great view from the deck. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
- James (8/5): - A little dated,but clean and good price.
- Bryan (10/5): - Nice place at a decent price.
- sudeep (8/5): - Very quiet and cozy rooms and clean . The dining options are great . The inhouse restaurant had great food as well . We tried the grilled fish and veggies and chicken Biriyani for dinner and they were quite delicious. There is another restaurant at the gate if you would like to taste something different. Both these restaurants serve good food . The staff were great as well . Convenient location as it’s 10 mins to Wawa downtown. Also located within 10 mins is the scenic high falls and the Michipicoten FN territory .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - One great bed. One fair bed. Great hosts. Clean and nicely set up cabin
- Karla (10/5): - The copse of trees provides a visual and auditory buffer from the highway, and allows nature to surround you, refocusing your eyes on the verdant vistas below. The motel rooms are no frills, but have comfortable beds, soft towels, and cleanliness. The real star is the restaurant, though. The Indian family that runs the property and restaurant have brought their native flavors to the north woods of Canada, and every bite ie better than the last.
My first evening I tried the Chicken Tikki Masala, the second I opted for the house specialty Butter Chicken. Both were perfectly made, mild, and delicious. The rice and naan were expertly made. Kush and her family were gracious hosts and hostesses, exuding kindness and humbleness.
Frankly, I was surprised the restaurant wasn't packed to the gills. I would guess that the restaurant nearer to the road probably draws more patronage for the proximity to the thruway.
If what you need is a simple place to relax in natural surroundings without wandering far from the road, I highly recommend Best Northern.
- John (10/5): - Very nice area
- Chris (10/5): - Comfortable, immaculate and peaceful
- Yin (8/5): - Quite and comfortable bed !
- Paolo Martin (10/5): - Nice staff
- Sandra (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful people and property was excellent
- bruno (10/5): - The owner sonny was very friendly and helpful.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin, with my wife and dog, and were very pleased with the cabin and the surroundings which were very quiet and private.
There is a restaurant on site, but we cooked our own food on the BBQ.
There is a large deck off the kitchen, which overlooks a private wooded area
I would recommend this resort to everyone
- WING HONG (6/5): - Clean room and easy assess. If staff could turn up the heat in the room b4 customers arrive, it would be more comfortable.
- Joey (10/5): - Quiet, overlooking water, friendly
- David (4/5): - My room was not very clean. There was toothpaste on the sink from the previous person. There was dust balls everywhere inside the room and there was a musty stench that I couldn't tolderate even with the windows open. The driveway wasn't completely cleared of snow and there was no real clear or marked parking spot. This place is a hard pass.
- Dwayne (6/5): - Lots of garbage on the ground around the motel.
- Lia (6/5): - Clean
- Gail (8/5): - Had our dog with us. Stayed for 1 night. Bed was comfortable. Would recommend staying here.
- Dwight (8/5): Nice place - We had a great stay here, room smelled clean. A few odds and ends need work but most sleeping places do.
- Kevin (10/5): - Love the location. Nice and quiet and beautiful view of the valley. I had a great curry dish - bonus.
Staff were super accommodating.
- Paul (6/5): - .
- Robin (8/5): - Quiet location.
- Jacqueline (10/5): - Very convenient for travellers. Easy parking and nice view of the grounds.
Beds were clean and comfortable.
Would recommend for a one night stay.
- Stephen (10/5): - The staff is friendly. Check in was quick and smooth.
The rooms are comfy and cozy.
Plenty of parking even with a trailer.
- Simon (8/5): - Have been trying to connect but no one answers the phones. Some areas to focus on, small details. Quick to charge extra for the dog we had, understandable and expected. Confirmed for three guests verbally and on reservation. Arrived late to the resort, only two bath towels, only two cups for coffee. Freezer compartment in the fridge freezer combo was unusable due to excessive ice build up.
Focus on the details. Overall, room was comfy for what we needed.
- Philip (4/5): - First time ever seen 1/2 ply toilet paper. No Kleenex. Door locks tricky. Restaurant menu poor and cooking of food not good.
- Mark (10/5): - Loved the firested area around the property.
- joseph (6/5): - I stayed here 8 years ago while travelling with a golden retriever. Owned by a Polish couple. Rooms were clean and in good condition although dated. Food in the restaurant was excellent. This time rooms not well maintained 7 cars in parking lot. I was the only person in the restaurant on a Friday night. Basically a Indian menu, I love a good curry. Had veg samosa and chicken byrani Both were very tasty. Furniture in BBQ area was was in poor condition. I almost fell through The mesh chair No stopper for the bath tub so shower only. The single ply toilet paper was so thin, not a pleasure to poop. No closet in the room or coat hangers, just 5 hooks on the wall. Internet was very fast and TV channel selection was excellent. I doubt that anyone who stayed here for $110 to $130 per night will make a return visit. Lots of other choices in the area.
- Josh (10/5): - Nice place
- Anita (8/5): - The restaurant was very nice and the food was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful.
- Thursa (10/5): - The property is in a beautiful location. The young men who helped with check in very pleasant. And the restaurant OMG the fish was amazing and so was the vegetables. Definitely check this place out.
- Beverly (8/5): - Very nice place - bathroom was tight, but very clean. Some road noise.
- Bruce (8/5): - Always good. Stayed there 4 times now and no surprises.
- Nancy (6/5): - Bed very comfy, quiet and new bathroom. Restaurant was not our cup of tea but people ate there. Spoder webs in corners of main room. Clean bathroom
- Cecile (6/5): - It was ok clean
- David (10/5): - Our first choice when in the area annually
- Cheryl (6/5): - It was a basic room adequate for my needs.
Not the easiest place to locate especially after dark.
- Ali (2/5): - Door to the first room, was filled with bugs, mosquitos and spiders. didn't even open the door to check the inside as the bugs would have gone through as well. changed the room, not so much bugs around the entrance, however, inside in the corners there were couple of spiders living, spider bites are bad (from experience). switched again, and the same issue.
Very poor people skills of the staff. very strict policy on cancelation if the room is not up to your standards. don't recommend it to anyone to avoid ending up looking for another motel in the area at 1 am!
Expedia was helpful trying to remediate the situation, however, ended up paying double without getting any refunds.
Not Recommended!
- Renee (8/5): - While the room was a little dated ( curtains were frayed, old furniture , etc), it was clean and we felt safe
- John (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay.
- Lori (4/5): - On our route for driving made location convenient.
The walls were paper thin, door lock was difficult, beds were small, and furnishings are old.
- David (8/5): - Check in and room okay
- Kevin (10/5): - Nice place to stay
- Susan (10/5): - Second time staying here very welcoming and comfortable
- Joanne (10/5): Good place to stay - Nice motel . Nothing fancy but clean . Had dinner in the restaurant and the shrimp chicken and veggies were delicious
- Katherine (8/5): - We really enjoyed our stay here. After traveling across to BC, this was a good price with renovation to room and great wifi.
Dinner at the restaurant was perfect for us.
Would recommend.
- Helen (8/5): - Accommodating and friendly staff. Clean and surprisingly quiet for being on the highway. Restaurant in the motel has a very pretty view. Only downside is we had to go into Wawa for breakfast as neither restaurant was open before lunch.
- Robert (4/5): - Someone phoned my home and questioned my daughter rudely. I had phoned them a week prior as requested and told them that I had a small dog. The staff said they didn't have a record of it which showed very poor internal communication.
- Ed (10/5): - Setting was lovely. The bathroom was a little small but clean.
- SCHUBERT (6/5): - A little more lights would surely help
- Kevin (10/5): - The room was nice. It was nice to have no loud air conditioner bussing. They was a nice breeze with the fan going on low. I am going to stay there on my way back.
- Geraldine (2/5): - This property seems very run down. The room had lots of cob webs in corners and ceiling. Most of the wall plugs didn't work and for the ones working there were extension cords running from them. Not really sure if fire alarm was working as it looked a 100 years old. Bathroom vent hasn't been cleaned in some time. Unfortunately the restaurant food didn't offer the traditional "comfort food" such as burgers, hot turkey sandwiches, fish & chips so cannot speak on how the food/service was. The most important issue was there was no air conditioner in room. There was a fan supplied which moved around the 30 degree air in room.
- Jean (10/5): Clean tidy friendly - Great motel. Meets the needs for an overnight sleep with a dog. Ate at the restaurant had Indian food very good
- Sri (2/5): - We will not going back at this Motel anymore 😔.
- David (2/5): No customer compassion - We had to change our plans and leave early. We asked for refund for our 2nd night stay that was not used.
Hotel quoted policy and was not at all compassionate to our needs and stated they 'may' get a partial refund
To date we have see no such refund.
Not happy customer.
- Alan (8/5): - the price was right
- Garry (8/5): - Good value for the money. Clean and quiet. Easily accessible from main road
- Charles T. (8/5): - There wasnt anything on menu I could have on my special diet so ate elsewhere
- Alex (4/5): - Old and tired
- Paul Lloyd (10/5): - Great little family run motel. Older but very clean. No air conditioning in our room but it wasn't needed for our one night stay. Slept with the windows open.
- Elizabeth (2/5): Requires updating - We read previous reviews before booking and they appeared good very disappointed bedding was old cricket in the room and spiders will not return
Wondered though whether it was under new ownership maybe it will get better
- Sandra (8/5): - Nice restaurant for dinner but would have also liked it open for breakfast.
- Tom (6/5): - Nice older motel. No air conditioning but did have full size fan
- Stephen (4/5): - No air conditioning. Floors were filthy. Great/helpful service.
- Teresa (10/5): - Loved the cabin and the staff was the best!
- Elizabeth (10/5): - The motel room was renovated, clean and comfortable. It was in a great location and had two restaurants right on the property.
