Guest Reviews
- Rebecca (8/5): A bit overpriced - At £95 for the night I felt this was a bit much for the room I had. Bar staff were nice, no WIFI in the bedroom. A bit quiet in the bar, owner was busy on lap top and no music, not very atmospheric. The village is beautiful though
- Colin (6/5): Needs a makeover - The picture shown is not like the bedroom we had which was called Capability. It was quite dark even with the lights on, the ladies vanity stool needed repairing as did the siding on the bath.
Overall it was tired and needed some management. The young serving staff at night and the lady in charge of the breakfast were very obliging and keen to give a very good service. Unfortunately the manager/owner was fully involved with a table of locals to provide any help or guidance to his staff or talk to his guests.
- Colin (8/5): I'd go back - The Hambro Arms is an attractive building in an attractive village, due to the requirements of Covid 19 the tables in the bar have been mover or removed to comply with the restrictions but the rooms and restaurant are fine. the showers sometimes show the age of the building and the thickness of the walls makes wifi a bit hit and miss
- Chris (6/5): - Bed and room was comfortable but had problems with the shower pressure throughout our stay with shower being difficult to start and often stopping mid shower, we understand they have ongoing plumbing issues but made having a shower very difficult.
Breakfast was very good but ate in the restaurant on 2 occasions, they have a fairly limited menu and on both times our first choice of main course had run out, on one day our first and second choice had both run out, on both day's we ate reasonably early at 7.30 so feel it was very poor management in the kitchen to keep running out of the items and made eating there very disappointing. Housekeeping and waiting staff were friendly and helpful but put in difficult position by poor management of the building and kitchen
- Phillip (8/5): Slightly disappointing - Generally good. Great location. Problem with shower in bathroom. Not a huge choice on the evening menu. One night only one starter as chef had no help. Unsatisfactory in my opinion. Chef, however, was extremely helpful and one evening did a delicious meal especially for us. Otherwise no complaints. Breakfast good but no fresh fruit.
- Ian (8/5): - Great location in a village full of character, good food, pleasant staff, nice bedroom overlooking the main village street. The incredible MIlton Abbey is only 5 minutes drive away.
- Saara (10/5): - A cosy pub with a great breakfast, lovely rooms and beautiful location in a unique village.
- David (10/5): Lovely Pub in Lovely location - Beautiful pub with great food and beer in a fantastic little village. Staff were friendly and breakfast was really tasty.
- paul (10/5): Excellent Staff great breakfast - We had a lovely stay the staff are extremely friendly and cant offer to help enough especially the lovely breakfast lady forgot to ask her name. We stayed in the Chambers room big enough for us very comfortable kingsize bed and i am very fussy with bed comfort alittle noisy from the bar til 11-11.30 but to be expected when staying above a public house on staff alone worth a visit. Fantastic choice for the complimentary breakfast as well
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel was easy to find as it was the first building on the pretty picturesque “street” of Milton Abbas. This street is famous for its thatched houses and on a sunny day, the scene looks straight out of a Hobbit filmset. Hotel is set in a pub, which offers friendly service and top-notch food. The rooms themselves are upstairs of the pub. While nicely decorated a while ago, facilities could benefit from a touch up. One thing to beware, as the street is at the bottom of a Valley, there’s literary no mobile phone service. The hotel’s own WiFi isn’t strong enough to reach the upstairs bedrooms. Expect to be cut off from the outside world.
- Ann (10/5): Worth a visit. - We had a 2 night stay here and would highly recommend a visit, the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was amazing and the room was clean and comfortable. The village was quaint.
- Scott (8/5): - Food good nice area shower didn't heat up but staff excellent
- Catherine (8/5): A gem - Hambro Arms was a surprise, whilst the room was compact, it was quiet and had the most comfortable bed. We ate in the pub and had excellent food, wine and service. The two young waiting staff were an absolute credit to the establishment. Topped off with a scrum my breakfast, served by an equally polite lovely lady.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gorgeous village and cosy accommodation pub food and staff all excellent
- Paul (10/5): Fabulous! - Idyllic place to stay! I would defy anyone not to relax here! Spotless,Great Character,Great food and Welcoming,Friendly Staff-Nothing too much trouble. Looking forward to coming back soon!
Thank You
- HOWARD (8/5): Dorset - Lovely situation in rural Dorset. Staff were great and the pub has a good atmosphere. The bedroom we had was a bit on the small side but comfortable enough.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice small B and B In a charming village. Very clean and a good guide book in the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great, apart from the grumpy man - Had an amazing stay, it was located in a beautiful location. The room was great and so was the breakfast. The only negative experience was when we checked in one of the members of staff was not very welcoming. He was quite grumpy as I was checking in with the other member of staff, the phone was ringing whilst we were speaking and he said to her that the phone was more important!! I found it quite rude and it affected my stay initially. The other members of staff were lovely.
- Ian (8/5): - Nice room. Good food
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely room , pleasant staff and tasty food. WiFi is not the best.
- paul (10/5): great stay - brilliant
- Alice (6/5): Noisy! - No body warned me that there would be a band in the bar until 12.30am so sleep was short. The finish in the bathroom was tacky - a hole in the floor by the bath, and the window did not open till I requested it. They did fix it. Good breakfast though.
- Steve (10/5): - Good pub/hotel,friendly, good food, nice and quiet at nt, nice room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - nice old world charm pub accommodation, and cosy rooms
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location was stunning.
Friendly/Welcoming Staff.
Dinner/Breakfast were both top notch
- Angela (8/5): Great find - Excellent stay, warm welcome, food very good. We will definatley by back
- Patrick (10/5): Lovely character hotel - Lovely character hotel serving outstanding evening meals. Extremely welcoming staff. Bed was great - lovely King Size with excellent mattress. Fabulous local beer served in the bar. Great cooked to order breakfast available from 7:00am onward. I will return when next in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Small room and bathroom but more than adequate. Very surprised the bed did not get made or we did not get clean cups. Breakfast was good, the staff were very pleasant, a big thank you to the chef who gave me a lift.
- David (8/5): Trad pub with 4 rooms in historic village - Far from the madding crowd - perhaps a little over-priced, but comfortable and friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent food - Had a lovely stay, food was excellent.
- Chris (8/5): Great Stay - Landlord was lovely and a great laugh when we joined him and friends for a drink on arrival which included a free bottle of prosecco to celebrate the beginning of our Honeymoon! The room was fantastic and breakfast great (including lots of gluten free options we made the wife happy!). Thanks again!
- Janice (8/5): A hotel in a very pretty village - We had a wonderful stay in such a pretty village of thatched properties. The food was very good, we were there for a Sunday roast, but not your normal roast. I had slow cooked lamb, which came with cauliflower cheese and all the trimmings.
- strawbs (6/5): Quite, pretty location - Our room was at the top of a flight of uncarpetted stairs was comfortable but disturbed sleep with a person returning at 1.30 am noisily climbing the stairs and setting of some kind of buzzer or alarm in the bar. It was difficult then to get back to sleep . In the morning when staff arrived because of the situation of our room we were then woken by noisy talking, setting up and cleaning process. There was a lot of dust in the room on lampshades and in the window also cobwebs. I would recommend the comfort of the bed and the food. Checking out was not polite when giving in the keys we were asked by young lad if we paid everything first but not if we had enjoyed our stay. We feel there needs to be more staff training and attention to detail.
- Valerie (10/5): Lovely, old worldly pub in picturesque village - This pub is situated in a lovely, picturesque village called ‘The Street’ which was lined with thatched cottages on a slight hill. There is an abundance of charm and character in this building with loads of beams, queaky wooden floorboards. We found all the staff to be extremely helpful and courteous. The room we had (junior suite) was up some steep, wooden stairs and at the front end of the building. It was clean and comfortable with a large bathroom with walk-in shower. The bed was king sized and very comfortable with an additional single bed also in the room. We slept very well even with people chatting under our open window. The furniture and decor was in keeping with the character of the building. We had one dinner in the restaurant (Cottage Pie) which was gorgeous, the best we’ve ever tasted - thank you Simon. Would have tried the fish pie which is supposedly gorgeous as well but unfortunately the one other night we would have eaten in, the kitchen had to close as one of the chefs burnt his hand and that led to shortage of kitchen staff. Local produce was used for breakfast and was delicious served by Aideene - thank you for the directions Aideene to avoid the Dorset Steam Fair - it worked. Looking forward to returning and will try the fish pie next time.
- Lisa (8/5): 4* - Lovely food and friendly atmosphere
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful little place - The Inn is set in probably the most beautiful village we have seen. Staff are very friendly and attentive. The rooms are very clean and very well equipped. All together a very nice place indeed.
We would definitely return
- Verified traveler (10/5): A comfortable, enjoyable and relaxing stay. - A comfortable, enjoyable and relaxing stay in an idyllic village. Staff were very friendly and the inclusive breakfast was delicious. We took the footpath at the bottom of the street to the abbey and continued on circular route back to the Hambro Arms, the views were absolutely spectacular. We hope to visit when in the area again sometime.
- Brent (10/5): - The room was good and the Food was excellent. 😊
- Verified traveler (10/5): Two nights with granddaughter - Very comfortable and made very welcome.
We had our very out going granddaughter and she was made very welcome.
Very good breakfast in the morning.
Would highly recomend and would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff, wonderful food in a beautiful part of Dorset.
We will be back.
- Edward (6/5): Our stay at Milton Abbas. - We booked a superior room via Hotel.com only when settling the bill the following morning did we realise we had been allocated a standard room. The room was small, overall clean but the odd cobweb, toilet seat was loose and as was part of the shower. The breakfast and service was good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): As good as it looks - As good as it looks from the pictures, friendly staff, brilliant food, great wine, what more can you ask for
- Chris (6/5): Nice with a few points - A lovely building, I do however feel we over paid for what we got, I was expecting more for the price, but hey ho it was a last minute booking on a bank holiday weekend. Room was lovely...bathroom was large but a bit poorly finished...flooring not fitted correctly so holes beside the bath...shower pressure was lousy so only dripped at times..you could hear the motor straining.
The checkin was slightly bizarre. We were told “you are lucky to have a room as we haven’t checked our computer today to accept your booking” Lucky? Not sure that was quite the way to welcome us! The Breakfast however was something to behold...amazing.
- Stevie (10/5): Hambro Arms - Lovely hotel, set in a quiet village location. The hotel is perfect for a quiet night away that’s for sure! Hotel was themed and the decor was tasteful, very different to your usual bright and airy travelodge, however everything was in good condition. The staff were lovely and friendly, took their time to speak to you and ensure you are well looked after. Breakfast was also lovely. Parking right outside the pub. All in all, a great trip!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic Pub in a beautiful village - The pub has lots of features and the staff were excellent.
The bedroom was very comfortable.
The food is superb.
- Margencourt (10/5): Character rooms in an old pub with good food - The Hambro Arms combines a great mixture of old world charm and modern conveniences. The check in was efficient. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The staff, particularly those serving at the evening meal and breakfast were exemplary. Very impressed and a particular vote of thanks to young Alex - surely the most polite and efficient waiter in Dorset.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Attractive old pub with rooms - We stayed here when attending a party locally. It was ideal for a one night stay. The building has a lot of character and breakfast was good. Our room was uncomfortably small, as was the ensuite, so we would not have wanted to stay longer. Everything was very clean and the staff were all pleasant
- Paul (10/5): En-route stop Devon to Sussex - Couldn't fault it. A warm welcome, a cosy comfortable room and an excellent dinner and breakfast.
- Emma (10/5): Cosy and welcoming - We really enjoyed our stay, the staff were great and we really enjoyed the breakfast!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The pub restaurant was excellent so we didn’t have to drive for an evening meal. Loved the ‘good morning’ on our table at breakfast!
