Guest Reviews
- Hannaford (8/5): - Good choice for breakfast
Large room
- MIRANDA (9/5): A lovely stay and even better dinner. - The tasting menu was quite superb and breakfast was also delicious, particularly the porridge!
We had an enjoyable stay. Nice room, not luxurious, and the bed was very comfortable with really good quality linen.
Etc. Kaltes Frühstück nach sehr langer Wartezeit.
- Alex (8/5): -
- James (10/5): - Lovely room, quiet location, excellent food Nothing
- Darin (10/5): Fantastic staff in a beautiful pub. - A warm welcome to this beautiful pub. Tasteful, quality furnishings throughout and my room was both huge and sumptuously appointed. Food was delicious and the staff were fantastic. Couldn’t fault it.
- Nick (10/5): Excellent wish we had booked for another few days - Loved the Royal Oak Hotel. Everything about our stay there was exceptional. Food, the service nd the staff were amazing. Not getting to meet James May as we re big fans

- Tony Gault (9/5): The royal oak - Bedroom was a nice size, clean and comfortable. Lovely outdoor seating area in the evening sun with a pint it was great. The food was lovely, a great haddock and chips, perfect crispy batter. Staff were really friendly, had a chat with them on the morning of our departure and they were lovely, genuine people. The only real gripe I had was at dinner, we were given dessert menus but nobody came back to us to see if we wanted to order a dessert. We had wanted to order but waited so long we opted against and sought after the bill instead. This was only a small gripe and these things happen occasionally, the rest of the interaction with the staff was fine.

- Brett (8/5): All good - Great servive, friendly staff.
- Brandon (10/5): - The atmosphere. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and it makes for a perfect British pub experience.

heritage building. Great area for walking/hiking.
- Jim (10/5): It was a picture perfect location with a thoughtfully selected menu and happy staff. - It’s the perfect little hotel with delightful food and staff. The burger is one of the best I’ve had. Anywhere in the world.
- Chris (10/5): Fantastic hotel/ pub and staff, great food and drink, stunning location. Highly recommended. - Beautiful pub/ hotel in a stunning, peaceful location. Excellent, friendly and approachable staff - many thanks to Grace and the team. Great food and drink. Room was fantastic and met all expectations. Nothing of note. If staying for more than one night, my only advice to others would be to bring a mobile device charger with them as we could not find a USB port in the room (apologies if missed). Not a big deal and not at all surprising for an old property.
- Matthew (10/5): Perfect pub - Lovely pub , friendly staff and as nice a room as you will find.
- Sean (9/5): -
- Helen (9/5): Very satisfied - I noticed there were safety features in the bathroom for the elderly and dos abled which I thought was exceptional.

- Chris (6/5): Lovely room, but expensive. - Lovely room. The serving staff in the restaurant were lovely, the chap at the bar wasn’t over friendly, probably having a bad day.
- Justin Locke (10/5): Quality country pub with exceptional staff - The food was incredible, amazing selection for the evening meals and breakfast alike. The staff were incredible and very attentive, professionalism was in abundance. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with all facilities you could hope for. The building itself is a very idyllic location. Great space to chill out and relax. As far as I'm concerned nothing could have been better. Every need was met.
- Simon (9/5): Staff excellent and welcoming could not do enough for us. Very friendly and nothing too much trouble. - Very old pub bought up to standard to accommodate our needs. The shower was a bit dirty and needs attention. There were cobwebs around the bedroom. It’s need a paint to be honest. It’s needed a bit of an upgrade. The bed was nice. The room was noisy due to a heater duct outside our window.
- Melanie (9/5): Welcoming with lovely bar and good food - Lovely rooms; good food; friendly staff. I have stayed before and will return again.

Its beautifully restored interiors create a sense of understated luxury, while the kitchen consistently produces dishes that showcase local ingredients with real skill. Rooms are comfortable and characterful, and the service is quietly excellent throughout. Whether visiting for a weekend escape or a longer stay, the Royal Oak offers a memorable blend of comfort, quality, and rural tranquillity.

- Rachel (10/5): Amazing stay. Excellent evening meal and breakfast, staff were very helpful and friendly -
- Patricia (9/5): - Excellent breakfast, good parking, nicely decorated. We travelled in Winter and our room was warm over the kitchen (we opened the small window) - but noted there was no air conditioning in room.
- ferris (8/5): - Place, staff, easy parking and excellent presentation of food, taste and overall experience Nothing. Our own fault didn't plan enough time to walk around the area. But stonehenge was only 20 + minutes away

- Sue (10/5): Would stay again - Everything
- Mel (10/5): A winter break in front of a wood fire and a very friendly cosy atmosphere. - Very quiet, wonderful big fire , very cosy atmosphere a bit pricey for a pub b&b
- Claudia (10/5): - Siamo stati molto bene! Pranzo e colazioni ottimi, consigliato. Speriamo di poterci tornare presto.

- David (1/5): Not the experience we hoped for. - Breakfast extremely limited because of dietary restrictions. The food was terrible the steaks were inedible struggled to cut through even with steak knives. Nobody asked if everything was okay with our meals. When we asked for the bill we was being charged full price, until that was challenged.
Would never recommend this place nor wish to go back there.
- Tiffany (10/5): -
- David (10/5): Beautiful traditional British country pub. - Beautiful place, a really nice place to get away from it all, staff were all really freindly and attentive throughout our stay, the room was massive and clean, food was very nice. onsite parking is always a bonus. nothing
- Karen (10/5): -
- Karen (10/5): 100% recommend staying here. - This was a fabulous overnight stay, I travelled with my husband and son, we got two rooms which were very very nice, spotlessly clean and the beds were sooo comfortable, the food was extremely good, we had evening meal and breakfast, the service was brilliant and all the staff were so so friendly, we had such a brilliant night, would 100% recommend staying here. Thank you to all the staff. Leaving
- Peter (9/5): Authentic country pub with good atmosphere & service. - Lovely authentic country pub with good atmosphere.
Room spacious & tastefully furnished.
Service friendly & attentive.
Food good particularly breakfast. Evening meal was good but could perhaps have had more choice.
Pub car park needs redressing to fill in potholes.

- Roberto Dib (10/5): -
- linzi (9/5): -
- kevin (10/5): - Lovely place. Excellent location. Spotless room, very well appointed, very friendly staff. Most importantly totally Dog friendly. Top value for money. Need a better choice of ale.
- Leigh (8/5): - Friendly and attentive staff. A lovely pub with accomodation. Food was lovely. Bed was very comfortable and made for a good nights rest. Room had many scuff marks, and wall area behind tea coffee making area had staining which needed attention.
Taps in bathroom required over tighting to prevent it dripping or running. Some fixtures and fittings in bathroom where a bit tired i.e towel rail had alot of rust markings. Windows had many cobwebs.
- Faye (10/5): - Food was amazing. Really friendly staff
- Melanie (10/5): - We stayed four nights and drove to and from End Of The Road Festival each day. Beds were comfy, staff were friendly, really good breakfast, nice atmosphere in the bar.
- Tom (8/5): A lovely place to stop on a longer journey, food is top notch - Charming thatched roofed country pub, good beers on tap and lovely big garden, beautiful conservatory that we had breakfast in. Dinner menu/food was incredible Quite a lot of scuff marks on the walls in the bedroom, cobwebs around the window, the bar area was a bit on the small side
- Carina (9/5): Hyggeligt - Hyggeligt, rummeligt, god seng, god morgenmad
- Kate (10/5): Perfect stay - Very clean, good sized rooms Nothing, it was as expected
- Marilyn (7/5): - Good location
Good breakfast The room was overpriced (£175) It was in the eaves with limited headroom. There was no shower in the bathroom, only a bath. And what looked like a dog bed for a Great Dane covered an area of the floor. What was the purpose of this? The mind boggles!
- Daniel (10/5): - I came to stay because James May showed off his newly co-owned pub on YouTube. I knew immediately it would be a pleasant stay, but in reality it was even better. There was not a single thing out of order. The food was wonderful, the staff friendly and the room very comfortable. I felt very welkome from start to finish.
The pub itself is situated in beautiful countryside with many places to explore.
If I get the chance, I will definitely come back to this lovely place.
- Richard (10/5): Great Property, Definitely Worth a Detour to Stay - Character property, friendly staff, easy parking, great food. Win Green room was spacious & quiet, with good ventilation (opening windows overlooking front and back of property). Wasn't hot or stuffy at all. Ceiling height is better than expected for an old property, didn't hit my head on the beam & I'm well over 6 ft. Back door key provided if you need to come back late at night. Village is picturesque & super quiet at night. Went a bit out of my way to stay here, but glad I did, way nicer than a holiday inn which was about the same price. Nothing much not to like. Nit picking: orange juice at breakfast could be upgraded to freshly squeezed for not much cost (would've been happy to pay more). Room fridge makes a little noise, maybe could be relocated? Could hear the footsteps in the room above, but not sure how easy it is to sound proof an old property and wouldn't put me off booking the same room again.
- Philip (10/5): -
- Louise (10/5): Perfection keep up the excellent work - Such a fantastic property with so much character, the staff, the food and the room were all above excellent That I could not stay longer
- Chris (10/5): Delivers on every level. Excellent. - The Royal Oak delivers on many levels. It has had a first-class makeover with extensive attention to detail. A genuine pleasure staying here. Worthy of particular mention was the lady member of staff of duty for breakfast and checkout on 25th. What a super personable and professional young person. The room (Ashcombe) was incredibly spacious and comfortable. Only a small observation and that was trying not to spray areas of the bathroom outside the bath with the handheld shower head. Doesn't come too easy with an old fart like me.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mm (9/5): Great spot in the peaceful countryside - Delicious meal & very comfortable accommodation - spacious room, lovely furnishings & decorations.
