• Mary (10/5): High quality people who ensured our stay was memorable and comfortable. Breakfast was chef worthy. - This was the best B&B we have stayed at. Anne and Tom were so obliging and friendly and cooked the most yummy breakfast we have had in the UK. The feta and tomato omelette was superb. The attention to detail was noted and appreciated. Loved their stories and advice as to areas to see in the Pesk District. Absolutely nothing.

• Bryan (10/5): Perfect stay in Matlock - Lovely welcoming hosts, the room was spotless and well appointed, very comfy bed, plenty of space, breakfast was amazing, quality ingredients used, parking was convenient, even though there was roadworks outside on my visit they have a permit for the car park that was literally across the road, I will definitely use them again. The only 1 thing was limited TV channels, but you're not there to stay indoors, bring your firestick.

• Alan (10/5): A fantastic Jem in the Crown! - The hosts, Anne and John were very warm and friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding area, the room we stayed in was again extremely well furnished to a very high standard, it was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic and again done to a very high standard. Overall we would definitely recommend and hope to visit both Anne and John again in the near future. Thankyou both for a wonderful memories towards our Anniversary weekend . There's nothing we would say needed attending to, everything was to perfection.
• Zsuzsanna (10/5): - One of the best Bed and Breakfasts I have ever stayed in :-) It is in the centre of Matlock but on a quiet street, very close to the railway station. Anne and John were very welcoming and friendly; they accommodated my dietary requirements with my breakfast. They also gave tips as to where to spend the day. My room was clean and cosy. I would absolutely recommend this B&B to everybody.

Should we return to Matlock it will be with Anne and John - Ellen House is well placed for getting into Matlock's facilities - shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. All a short walk away. Its also close to the station, which was ideal as we travelled by train. Our room was lovely with every thing we needed, all well presented. Everything about Ellen House is very clean. Very impressed. The breakfasts were superb. A good start to the day. Our hosts, Anne and John, were very friendly and helpful. They made our stay an absolute pleasure. Nothing to add here.

• Ashleigh (10/5): Fabulous BnB!! - Hosts were really welcoming, made us feel at home. Nothing, was a fabulous stay. If I had to say something, there was only the option of orange juice at breakfast, while it was lovely and fresh, I would have preferred apple juice.

• Grant (8/5): Lovely hosts and breakfast, close to the center of Matlock. - Although the room was rather small it was very clean and quiet and had all the needed facilities. Anne and John were great hosts. They were very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and offered their experiences about trips and places of interest. The breakfast was really good. Good quality products (including home made jam). Car parking was located across the road and was safe. Location of the B&B was only a 2 min walk to the center of Matlock (shops, park and restaurants).

• mary (10/5): Relaxing and a tasty breakfast - The breakfast was lovely, and the homemade jam and marmalade was a nice touch. It was nice to walk into the garden and sit and watch the birds and a squirrel eating the nuts ! Just a short walk into town too. The big pillow was a little uncomfortable, did realise there was a flatter one in the cupboard, in the morning !!

Comfortable room and bed. Accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable hosts. Anne's homemade biscuits are a bonus. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Would stay here again if holidaying in the area. And the train station is less than 5 minutes away. The King room has the added attraction of on outside patio/garden area.

• Johan (10/5): Excellent B&B in the Peak District - Anne and John were very welcoming and friendly, offered detailed advice & stories on places to visit / to eat and showed a lot of interest in how our day went. The room and breakfast area are decorated stylishly. The breakfast is organized via a checklist order form. This way you can compose the full english to your desire or order one of John's specialities. The Eggs Benedict are delicious and the full english had some refined touches. Anne made sure we were lacking nothing. The whole experience was superb. This was a 2 day stopover on our way home but there is enough to do in the Peak District to warrant a longer stay. We enjoyed our visits to Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall very much.
• Malcolm (7/5): A nice stop on our journey north - Good location for both town and exploring the area. 5+ minutes walk to Restaurants and town centre, car park available directly opposite with visitor permit provided. Good breakfast with opportunity to choose cooked options the night before. Comfortable bed. The en-suite shower room was a little tight, but all functioned OK.

Our room was the lovely garden room , very comfortable, and a welcoming tray of assorted teas , coffees and little pot of biscuits for us to enjoy . Very clean and tidy with everything you could need for a comfortable stay . The breakfast was lovely from the fruit , cereal , yogurt to the wide choice of cooked breakfasts . I would definitely recommend this b&b to friends and family and stay here again myself. There was nothing not to like during our stay here

Our room was comfortable and it was nice to be able to sit outside in the garden and relax in the evenings. Close to the station for easy access up and down the track, as well as close to amenities.

• Alf (9/5): Open & Honest Cottage with the niceties of life tucked away in this home - The “hosts” are very friendly, welcoming and glad human beings, they help you settle into their unique and homely B&B. Whilst space is premium they have endeavoured to maximise space & comfort. The house is ideally suited for entry into the Peak District and Dales. Whilst you can complain, its would be unjust And a dis-service to the hosts.

Great hosts, excellent breakfast, free parking and comfy room with en suite. The garden, accessible from door next tho the room, is lovely.

• Bigos (10/5): Exceptional - I had a wonderful stay at Anne and John’s charming home. The room was spotlessly clean and delightfully cozy, making it easy to relax after a long day. Each morning began with a truly delicious breakfast—fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. There was acces to lovely garden as well. Altogether, Ann and John offer a warm, welcoming experience that I would gladly recommend to anyone visiting the area.
• Alex (10/5): Perfect guesthouse in a perfect location - The location was a very short walk to Matlock town centre, right by the train station. The owners, Anne and John, were extremely friendly and helpful. Anne even checked a local shop opening time for us and also provided dinner recommendations in town. The room was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. We stayed in room 2 which has the sink in the bedroom and I thought would be weird but it wasn’t a problem at all. We also had our ensuite bathroom with toilet and bath/shower. There was parking opposite which i could use once Anne gave me a permit. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like. I would definitely stay here again.

• Caroline (10/5): Exceptional - Over the years I’ve stayed in a lot of different types of accommodation, but Ellen House is by far one of my favourites. Location is fantastic - close to the train station, town, and various starting points for walks/hikes. The rooms are spacious, super comfortable, and scrupulously clean. Toiletries are provided, as well as tea and coffee making facilities. There’s plenty of storage space, and extra blankets are also available. Breakfast is superb, and they kindly adapt the breakfast to your preference. Every day I tucked into a different dish, and thoroughly enjoyed each one! But my absolute favourite part of my stay were the hosts Anne & John - both of whom are incredibly welcoming and friendly without being intrusive. Having lived in the area for nearly 20yrs they have a wealth of knowledge and made some great recommendations. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. If ever I visit Matlock again I would not hesitate to rebook Ellen House. Highly recommended!

• Andrea (10/5): Cosy and homely - Everything about it. The house is very cosy and warm, loved the decoration. The hosts are lovely, so welcoming and really made you feel like at home. The property has a communal garden, perfect to relax with a book or table games. The location is perfect, walking distance from the town center and easy acces to multiple walks in the Peak District. And the breakfast is outstanding, very good quality food with lots of variety and they accomodated my gluten and dairy intolerances without a problem. Will be definitely coming back!

• Robin (10/5): An extremely friendly place to stay close to the centre of Matlock - We were made to feel very welcome by our hosts. A parking disc was provided immediately to allow us to park in a little car park opposite the B&B. We were also given suggestions for where to find a variety of restaurants in the town within walking distance. Breakfast turned out to be a major event, with more flexibility than initially apparent on the simple tick sheet - ask and you shall receive!

The breakfast was delicious, and our room was very clean and everything was available for us, including tea/coffee/kettle and milk. Our room had direct access to a beautiful garden. The place is spotless, and the decor is beautiful. I love the touches of their background in South Africa. Our room was a great size, and again, the little touches made it so special.
