- Christie (10/5): - We had a wonderful time! Would definitely stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bed very comfy. Shower super. Lovely to access the large gardens with lots seating
- Verified traveler (10/5): The Shippon - Comfortable, clean and great hosts. Will be returning
- Rosalind (10/5): - Country home from home, very relaxing.
- Donna (10/5): - Amazing stay . Beautiful and relaxing cottage with great hosts . Wonderfully peaceful garden . Look forward to staying again .
- Marie (10/5): Perfect Stay - We had a great stay at The Stable. It’s really comfortable and well equipped with everything needed for a relaxing time. It’s in a peaceful setting yet close enough to quickly pick up any necessities. Easy parking is a bonus and taxis were easily bookable too. We are regular visitors to the area and really wish we’d found this place much sooner. For us it was perfect and we’ll definitely be back.
- Susan (10/5): Perfect stay, beautiful and family friendly - What a lovely holiday cottage. Absolutely perfect for our 2 night stay with family. My kids loved playing football in the paddock and exploring the area. Felt very safe. Lovely hosts and great location.
Highly recommend.
Thank you
- Christine (10/5): Stunning - It was the best weekend I've ever had the cottage was absolutely amazing
- suleman (8/5): - Nice family relaxing place. Quiet and peaceful.
- Ian (2/5): - Fighting outside property it’s a horrible place
- Stephen (10/5): - Ready at our ETA. Quick access (online check-in, key in door). Owner came to make sure we were OK, answered our questions, told us where he was (next door) in case we had a problem (we didn't). Didn't bother us again.
We had the small Dairy Cottage - plenty of room for the two of us - but patio doors straight onto the big garden which the other cottages didn't seem to have. We sat outside a lot just having a cup of tea and looking around at greenery. It's hypnotic.
We didn't want for anything. Every home comfort was provided.
We had some nice walks but, if you're looking for food, turn right at the canal bridge towards Leo's. Turn left and you end up at a dismal pub that advertises food outside and inside but doesn't do it. We were told 'kitchen closed' at our lunchtime visit but reviews suggest it hasn't done food for a few years.
My only suggestion for Martin Lane Holiday Cottages? Update the guest information folder. Otherwise an excellent short break and we would certainty go back.
- abigail (10/5): Lovely cottage in beautiful sut - Lovely little cottage very close to the centre of Liverpool. Perfect for what we needed. Everything was very clean and lots of equipment if you wanted to cook etc. Beds were very comfortable and communication was great. Everything about it was perfect. Would definitely recommend and stay here again. 😊
- Alicia (10/5): Great Country Cottage - Great country cottage when visiting my daughter at Edge Hill University. Plenty of room and we enjoyed cooking dinner one night in the kitchen. Nice canal nearby with walking trail. Very peaceful location and just a short drive to lots of restaurants and stores.
- David (10/5): Top accommodation - One of my favourite places to stay. Decent pubs within walking distance but none do food after 7pm! Lots of choice on Just Eat and there is an excellent Booths supermarket nearby.
- Iain (10/5): - absolutely stunning place and everything you need, we had a great time, would definitely recommend to anyone. we will be back soon hopfully,
- Brenda (10/5): - The property had everything you need for staying away and the beds were comfortable, the owners welcomed us and were friendly, they provided with a number for a local taxi service which were helpful and reliable. Enjoyed our short stay.
- Mr C (10/5): Family visit - The stay was only for a couple of nights and the weather was fine and we were close to the family and friends we come to visit plus we would return later in the year with our son and his girlfriend
- Verified traveler (6/5): Such a shame - The cottage is lovely - warm, clean, well equipped and comfortable.
But…
The radiator by our heads in bed wouldn’t turn off or down and was hot all night which made sleeping difficult
There were multiple mouse droppings in our bed and on the bedside cabinet
Also mouse droppings on the fridge and stacked up behind the fridge in a huge pile
I asked for a refund from the owners but wasn’t given one. I did not even get an acknowledgment or an apology.
It is in the country so I can understand why there may be a problem with mice but nothing seems to be done about it. Such a shame as the cottage itself was beautifully presented, equipped and clean.
- Stuart (10/5): - Lovely cottage, Xmas decorations which our 4 year old loved.
- Barbara (8/5): - Second time at this property perfect for children
- Dean (10/5): - Sue and Phil are very helpful and are happy to help with anything you may require during your stay. They are only across the courtyard in the farmhouse so it’s easy for communication. I went with my 2 brothers and dad for a weeks trip around liverpool and it was an easy car journey of around 45 mins into the city. Great garden that is good for relaxing and kids to run around. Very quiet area. Cottage was clean and loved and you can tell the couple like to keep high standards. Shower was fab. We were in the shippon, but next doors couple were just as happy with there cottage. Great stay and would stay again. Great value for money too.
- Allan (10/5): Cosy and well-equipped get-away in rural setting - We stayed in 'The Dairy', one of several holiday units converted from farm buildings, surrounding a cobbled courtyard. Beautifully clean and well-furnished. The kitchen area was well-equipped; the bathroom was of a good standard. The bedroom patio doors led to a small patio and then to a huge shared garden. The owners were really helpful. We loved it.
- Mark (10/5): - Was in the area working, got an upgrade to the 3 bedroom house.
Absolutely spot on, lovely and peaceful and all things in house top quality.
Couldn’t recommend it more
- Suzanne (8/5): Everything we needed - lovely setting - Was greeted on arrival by the owner who was very welcoming. These are lovely cottages tucked away off the beaten track but still very accessible.
Had everything we needed and was the perfect size for our short trip to visit our son who is studying in Ormskirk and a trip to Bolton to watch the football.
Would definitely recommend.
- Karen louise (10/5): Lovely break at martin lane cottages - When we arrived the owner was lovely, cottage very clean and comfortable had everything you needed couldn't of asked for more, will be returning when we can would highly recommend
- Michael (10/5): - Very welcoming and the property is run by complete professionals. I stayed with family for bonfire night and it was well worth the money i just cant believe its only 4*s Excellent everything was perfect.
- Laura (10/5): Brilliant for families - It was a perfect country setting with the perfect little cottage , everything needed to hand supplied inside or happy to help. Brilliant for the little ones and big ones close by 15-20 minute drive beach and prom if needed . Very peaceful also
- Barbara (8/5): - The cottage is one of four, in a really peaceful area with the owners living next door. They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and are happy to share their garden and surrounding fields with you. Very child friendly place.
- Michael (8/5): - Spacious, farm buildings conversion in a quiet, rural setting off the beaten track . Well equipped kitchen however , the single bathroom/toilet may prove a challenge with the maximum 6 guests
- Nancy (10/5): - We have now stayed here four times. Su and Phil are lovely hosts - very accommodating and helpful. There is a beautiful garden with lots of space for family gatherings with play areas for children. The cottages are spotlessly clean and well equipped. There is good walking roundabout especially on the canal and the peacocks in a neighbouring garden are a bonus.
- Jo (10/5): - What a find! We came as a Family of 4 for a wedding in Ormskirk. We had the Granary cottage and it was absolutely perfect for us. It had a twin bedroom on the ground floor and a twin and kingsize upstairs as well as a large bathroom with a bath and walk in shower.
The cottage was very large and suited us perfectly with 2 large sofas and a table and 6 chairs in the living area. The kitchen was fully equipped and we had everything we needed for the weekend. The parking was ideal, a courtyard right outside which was very private and secure. The gardens were so beautiful and well kept with lots of seating and Phil made us feel welcome to have a look around. There was also seating outside the cottage which was perfect for us for
Morning cuppas and evening wines!
The only criticism i have is the ironing board was too small which isn’t a criticism at all! It was just we had lots of wedding gear to iron but it was manageable. The cottages are on a very quiet lane which we walked along to the nearby canal and also farm shop and cafe which did an excellent breakfast! Overall our stay was perfect just too short, we are already looking forward to coming back later in the year. Thank you for a lovely stay ❤️
- Clive (10/5): - Very nice barn conversion, with huge window. Only stayed for 2 nights, but self catering facilities were suitable for far longer. Owned by a friendly, helpful family.
- Fergal (8/5): Lovely stay at Shippon Cottage. - Lovely few days staying over at Shippon Cottage. Recommended!
- Nancy (10/5): - This is our third stay there. Always spotlessly clean and well equipped. The Martins very friendly and willing to help. Beautiful garden to sit in.
- Sarah (10/5): Weekend break - A great little hideaway! 2 nights in peace and quiet with everything you need in the cottage. Will definitely be returning.
- N (10/5): Can’t fault it! - Lovely people. The accommodation is immaculately clean and very well equipped. Beautiful garden to relax in. They are very obliging about letting us charge our electric car and refused any payment.
- Alison (10/5): - Loved everything about the cottage. Clean and beautifully decorated with every facility you need and more. Very reasonable price too
- Samantha (10/5): Relaxing and comfy - Really lovely place to stay, relaxing comfortable and great location, friendly and helpful host.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice place. Quiet , rural location, not far from ormskirk or Southport. Interesting WW2 history nearby ( HMS ringtail) Hosts were very helpful and good to deal with, any problems soon remedied. Would stay again for sure.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Shippon was a lovely little cottage with all the amenities we needed and set in a lovely quiet countryside location. The hosts we great - extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. We stayed for our little boys 5th birthday and they even let us hire a bouncy castle in one of the gardens. We had a fantastic weekend and the birthday boy had ‘the best day ever’! Thank you!
- Alice (10/5): Great Girly Getaway - Me and my gals stayed at this lovely property, the stable, and I would love to return. The host was lovely and there were plenty of amenities available. Would recommend walking along the canal it’s very pretty there.
- Norma (10/5): - We were very pleased that Phil at Martin Lane Cottages gave us an upgrade to a larger unit with more amenities. This, I'm sure was because of our unusual situation. We booked this unit because we were in the process of finding a flight home to Canada. We found out that our flight would take place on Sunday morning the 22nd of March. This meant that we were only staying for two nights instead of five nights. I contacted ebookers for a refund but was refused. Under the pandemic circumstances, I feel that a refund of unused days would be gracious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A dishwasher would be useful. Perfect in every other respect
- Claire (10/5): Beautiful cottage - Beautiful cottage, lovely owners, great location. I wonderful retreat after a long journey and a long day of wedding celebrations. Highly recommend.
- Graham (10/5): Excellent - As soon as we arrived we were met with a very friendly greeting. Cottage was spotless with everything you could possibly need, and more. We will be staying again and will be using instead of the local hotels.
- Sophia (8/5): - Amazing trip. Central point for trips to Blackpool, Southport and Liverpool city.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely cottage with everything we needed all on one level. Friendly, welcoming owner. Quiet, but not isolated, countryside location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Country Living - Lovely cottages in the country with parking and plenty of space for kids to play. Highly recommended.
- Janet (10/5): Martin Lane Cottages Buscouh great place to stay - an amazing family host so welcoming so helpfull .i had my husbands 80th birthday party sit down neal for his family there.both husband and wife went out of their way to assist me with tables chairs crokery and cutlery even lending me sauspans from there own house they helped me set up the tables anad took them down for me and i never expexted such kindnes there little boy is a dream active but gorgeous little boy it was sad leaving him to say goodbye .its a great place to stay and invite friends over for meals something you cant do in an hotel or bed and breakfast. aldis booths and BM are there you can get everthing you want to eat and at the other end of the lane is a place for breakfast deffinately go there again and recommend it to all great time best ive had in Liverpool
- PM (8/5): Country House Charms - When we arrived to stay at Martin Lane farm, we couldn't have received a warmer welcome from owner Sue. She very kindly explained the necessities to us and left us to settle in.
We were using the house as a base while in the area at a graduation and found its remoteness close enough to Ormskirk to be useful, but not so far away as to be a problem!
As we were enjoying the warmth of the summer sun, we found the heat lingering and we were able to enjoy a drink outside in the evening. Perfect!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very welcoming hosts and beautiful setting. - Great family accommodation, very comfortable and a unique rural experience. We took advantage of the nearby canal towpath to explore the local area, and were delighted.
- Familywedding (8/5): Farm Cottage - We were moved to another farm cottage location at the request of the owner, while this one didn't perhaps have the same charm and quaintness as The Dairy, it was to our advantage as it gave us a lot more space and was closer to the wedding venue we had to go to, which was the reason for visiting the area.
Immaculately clean and well equipped. Perfect for a long weekend.
The owner was really helpful and friendly, a pleasure to deal with.
