We stayed here in March and are already plotting our return. The Accommodation: Living in the Trees We stayed in a Starbed Treehouse suite, and calling it "unique" is an understatement. Being perched right in the middle of the Zambezi River felt like having our own private island sanctuary. Falling asleep to the sounds of the river and waking up surrounded by the canopy was a surreal experience we’ll never forget. Daily Adventures One of the best perks was having two activities included every day. We toggled between: Game Drives: Expertly guided and full of wildlife sightings. River Cruises: Peaceful, scenic, and the perfect way to wind down. Both were exceptionally well-run and allowed us to see the beauty of the area from two totally different perspectives. Highlights of Our Stay The Food: Every meal was a 10/10. The kitchen team is incredibly talented—expect "amazing" to be your new favorite word. The Staff: From the moment we arrived, we felt like family. The team is professional, warm, and genuinely friendly. The deck is literally over the Zambezi River, the sunrise was sensational and the room fabulous with folding and sliding doors that opened the entire place up to appreciate Africa. Lisa, Reeves and guide Jamie were outstanding. We stayed 3 nights and I know it's a cliche but 'just didn't want to leave'. Victoria Falls trip and heli-tour were superb. Jamie hosted us for this and a sunrise cruise and game drive, all of which were outstanding. He and Reeves are exemplary. The main areas of both The River Lodge and Island Lodge are very very well appointed. Luxurious. Idyllic. The river is the star, and the lodge compliments it perfectly. I would not hesitate to recommend staying here. We have stayed in many African lodges and this one has got everything. The suite, the food, the staff, the public areas. 10/10.

We just returned from our first safari trip to Africa celebrating my husband’s 70th birthday. Everything about this place is amazing - from arriving by boat - with the staff waiting on the dock to welcome you - to the amazing animals everywhere. On the first day on the way to the Lodge, we saw several hippos and a large crocodile basking on the shore. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly and attentive. The luxury tents were huge with every amenity possible, including an outdoor shower and freestanding tub over looking the Zambezi River. What an amazing place!

The property is beautiful, with impeccable attention to detail and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Big M was our designated Ranger and looked after us very well over our stay. An ideal base to visit the Falls and you will never tire of looking out at the Zambezi. Rooms are super comfortable and generous in size. All of the staff worked very hard to make our stay hugely enjoyable. Thank you.

- AnkitaV102 (2/5): Not safe for solo female travelers - I am a seasoned solo female traveler (47 countries, 300+ hotel stays). This was the most unsafe and emotionally distressing experience of my travel life. Night 1: A male staff member entered my room at 9pm without knocking while I was changing. There is no chain lock, no double lock, and no standard DND sign. Anyone with a master key can enter. In many countries — including the U.S. — this would warrant calling the police. Guests have a legal right to privacy and exclusive use of their room. This was not a minor service error. It was a serious security breach. After this incident, my agency requested a Do Not Disturb sign for basic safety. On-duty manager Ashleigh stated they “don’t do signs” and suggested I should speak to them directly instead of my agents. I received a makeshift sign only after 48 hours of escalation. Meanwhile, construction workers had direct visibility into my private deck, plunge pool, and outdoor shower daily. Privacy is marketed — but not delivered. The plunge pool (a key reason for the premium rate) was repeatedly unusable because elephants drink from it. It was half empty and dirty for days. I could only properly use it on day four. If wildlife regularly renders amenities unusable, guests should be clearly informed before charging ~$1,000 per night. What disturbed me most was leadership’s response. Senior manager Marnix minimized my safety concerns and focused on defending staff rather than addressing the breach. After a man enters a solo woman’s room unannounced, the correct response is empathy, corrective action, and strengthened security — not defensiveness. I ultimately pursued a credit card chargeback and was refunded two nights. That action alone reflects that the experience did not meet reasonable hospitality standards. The only reason this is not 1 star is because the kitchen staff, drivers, and guides were exceptional and kind. The physical property is beautiful. But beautiful scenery does not compensate for compromised room security and dismissive crisis management. If you are a solo female traveler, think carefully. Safety is not a luxury — it is a baseline expectation.

The rooms are beautiful- incredibly spacious, filled with natural light, tastefully decorated, and thoughtfully equipped with everything one could need. Every detail reflects refined comfort and excellent design. The game drive vehicles and boats are very comfortable and luxurious, perfectly suited for enjoying the spectacular surroundings in style. Every excursion felt relaxed & exclusive. We were also very fortunate to spend some time at the beautiful Malachite Tented Suite Lodge. The setting along the Zambezi River is breathtaking. The Lodges Manager Mr Marnix Breitbarth, was so kind and allowed us to take a peek at the suites - and wow. If you are still looking for the perfect honeymoon retreat, look no further - Malachite is the address. Victoria Falls River Lodge (and Malachite) combine luxury, authenticity, and heartfelt service in a truly special way. We left with beautiful memories and a strong desire to return.

We stayed in an Island Treehouse Suite for 3 nights (not long enough) and it was unforgettably magical. There was only one other guest on the island with us for most of our stay which made it feel very exclusive. From the initial greeting with Lisa, to our wonderful interactions with our butler, Reeves, and outstanding excursions with Lancelot, the team went above and beyond to make our time there perfect. Food was exceptional, service was attentive and conversational but discreet, S African wine options were solid, and the room was cozy with a very private deck with river views. All of that while being completely immersed in nature? Unforgettable. Daily hippo sightings and sounds were abundant, game drives were low density with sightings of giraffes, zebras, Cape buffalo, warthogs, baboons and lions (including a thrilling experience of being charged by a new coalition that had just arrived in the area). Lancelot was a kind, engaging, and very knowledgeable guide and was accommodating in quickly shifting our excursion plans based on the weather. We are excited to return for a second visit in the future and look forward to seeing the island property once its renovations are completed later this year. Thank you to Lisa, Reeves, and the entire team for memories that will last a lifetime.
- unusualjourneys (10/5): Beautiful location, amazing service, unbeatable atmosphere. - We stayed here for three nights while on safari and I could have stayed forever. This resort is spectacular. To begin, they bring you in by boat. We transferred from the airport to a tiny little dock, got on a boat and right away we encountered elephants playing in the river. What an introduction to this beautiful country and area. Later that evening we went on a sunset river cruise and our boat steward served up delish snacks and drinks while we spotted hippos, crocs and birds of all kinds. We were in heaven. Our room was gorgeous and the view unmatchable. The resort grounds are so cool. You can roam anywhere you want during the day, and spot elephants, buffalo, antelope, mongoose and monkeys everywhere. One thing that made the stay truly special was our encounter with a spirit. As an avid ghost hunter, I always bring my maglite. One evening a lovely, friendly spirit came to say hi and spoke to us by turning the light on and off as we asked questions. She told us this was her tribes land and she was part of the Shona people. She shared her story with us about the fish in the river that were good to eat (or not), how elephants trampled her garden, and the dangers of crocodiles and night time animal attacks. She shared that she was happy people like us could visit and appreciate the land. It was amazing. I love this resort and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a trip of a lifetime in Victoria Falls.

I had no idea what to expect.. my first time in Africa .. it’s top notch luxury with incredible cuisine and a family of warthogs just passing through. I think it’s best as an end of safari exploration experience to get that luxury feeling after perhaps being more rugged. We only spent one night here at the beginning of the holiday and later I longed for the gorgeous bath from my lodge room.

- Worldbutterfly (10/5): Warm Welcome in a Beautiful Setting on the Banks of the Zambezi - We loved every minute of our three-night stay in the Malachite Tented Suites, which are not tents in any traditional sense. Instead, picture a beautifully decorated space with a generous living area/bedroom and bathroom attached to a deck (complete with loungers and a plunge pool) looking out on the Zambezi. It was the perfect place to relax and watch hippos bob in the middle of the river or the boats cruise by. But beautiful rooms are just part of what's on offer at the Victoria Falls River Lodge. We were privileged to have Crawford as our guide. His encyclopedic knowledge of the area, and profound respect and appreciation of the environment, was inspiring and informative. We did two afternoon river cruises and one amazing morning game drive, in addition to the Victoria Falls tour. (Unless you are after a specific experience the Lodge doesn't offer, there is no need to book external tours.) We loved learning about the landscape, flora and fauna from such a committed and skilled guide, who was also a super nice guy. In fact, commitment and skill, along with warmth and professionalism, was evident everywhere. All of the food and drink were outstanding (the daily homemade baked goods at breakfast, the SA sparkling wine on offer, and the welcome drink, a cucumber, mint-infused mocktail, were special stand-outs). The service was likewise excellent at every level and from every person. One of many highlights: they baked us a cake in celebration of our birthdays (we were on a 50th birthday trip). We were so touched and felt truly welcome and embraced. On a related note, my wife and I (both women) wondered about our reception in Zimbabwe, which unlike South Africa, is not a LGBTQ-friendly country on a governmental level. We need not have been concerned, as this review clearly demonstrates. Victoria Falls River Lodge welcomes all travelers as valued guests, and we cannot recommend this beautiful property highly enough!

As any safari fan knows, the food is always such an important part and River Lodge didn't disappoint - especially loved the small plates selection for dinner and local produce being featured, made us really know we were in Zimbabwe. - 863glenng (4/5): VFRL Island Treehouse Suites an amazing location & venue, the cuisine disappointing - Victoria Falls River Lodge Island Treehouse Suites is one of those venues that feels unreal until you are actually standing there. We were taken by boat out to our own private island on the Zambezi and suddenly we were living on the bank of the river with elephants wandering past, hippos bellowing, monkeys and numerous birds. Our suite had a plunge pool and a treehouse deck that looked across the water. Waking up to the sounds of the river and watching the sunrise from the pool was amazing. Are suite was modern and well provisioned, while a shared resource our butler did a good job in seeing to our needs. We did experience problems with the AC being very insufficient and a large number of ants in the bathroom area repeatedly. Be careful on the elevated walkways, numerous weather worn planks can present a trip hazard. The cuisine was most challenging, we were disappointed both with the quality of the ingredients, preparation and presentation. The complimentary wine selection was basic (low end) and limited. Dinner service was intermittent and slow. Our trip to Victoria Falls was by an independent purveyor Bushtracks Africa (booked by VFRL), we were surprised with the poor quality of the vans (high mileage and dirty) and being combined with several other guests from different/distant lodges, this wasted a good deal of time on pick up and drop off. Our guide was from VFRL (he met us at the falls), he did a very good job with our tour of the falls which we very much enjoyed. Victoria Falls River Lodge Island Treehouse Suites is an amazing location and venue.
- danp234 (8/5): Great Lodge - Bad Experience! - Great staff, great food and the Water Falls exceeded expectations. Last day was TERRIBLE! Overall a bad experience. Our trip to Victoria Falls and the VF River Lodge a couple of weeks ago was amazing and staying at the lodge was no different. The staff were exceptionally pleasant from the Manager down, everyone was professional and courteous. The chefs did their thing in the kitchen because the food was outstanding. The few issues we had came toward the end of our stay. We noticed that the receptionist was not focusing on our requests for service or information regarding activities. She often forgot to get back to us on some things, and we ended up repeating our requests. THIS was important because the night before leaving, we confirmed with her our checkout and transfer pickup times (to the airport) for 10am. She confirmed it for us after I made her repeat it. The morning of checkout, we went to the pickup point at 10am, and she told us the transfer was 11am and not 1015. That was disturbing since we confirmed it last evening and we had a 1:25pm departure. They didn’t tell us why we were pushed to 11am. So, we waited until 11 and they told us they were waiting for some passengers to be shuttled all together. The 8 passengers didn’t arrive until 11:16. We weren’t sure why we had to wait on our transfer (11am) until we were informed by our travel agent that they had one van to take everyone, and they decided to HAVE US WAIT on the other guests who had a later flight departure time. To this day I can’t make sense of that decision. They made 2 people late for their flight because they wanted to service 8 people with a later flight. Here’s the timeline. 11:16 - pickup and depart to airport (30 min) 11:45 - dropped at airport 11:55-12:15pm - Stand on long line to check bags *12:40 - Boarding begins 12:20-1:10 - Stand on long security line 1:10 - Security pulls us out of line to be screened; we run to the gate when we hear them call our names and we are the last to board the plane The Problem: They blatantly lied to us about the transfer times, waited in long lines, ran to the gate. Had it not been for the security agent that pulled us out of the long line we would’ve missed our flight. The solution: Take guests to the airport earlier and then come back for passengers with a later flight time.

- danrhondar (10/5): Gorgeous Lodge - Location, location, location...this is a beautiful spot on the Zambezi River to call home for a few days. We'll never forget the view of the red moon and red sun, over the water, from our tent. Took my breath away! The staff are wonderful, and the food is delicious. The morning and evening boat rides are fun and informative. Our tracker took us on a guided tour of the Falls, which was the highlight of our trip. I highly recommend purchasing some of the room spray they provide, as it smells like a safari and reminds me of our beautiful time on property.
- louise04 (10/5): Elegance on the Zambezi - When we arrived at the airport in Victoria Falls, we were met by the hotel and taken to a boat ramp where we were loaded onto a boat, and we cruised to the hotel dock. There we were met in the lobby area with a refreshing drink and had an orientation about the hotel. The hotel lobby is strikingly beautiful. It embraces the local motif along with an elegant and warm atmosphere. The view of the grounds opens up to the beauty of the river. Off the lobby is a hallway that leads down to a beautiful bar area, complete with an outdoor fire pit. The one evening, while enjoying the fire, a huge buffalo came over just below us. Made us realize how close and open the wildlife was all around us. We never felt threatened, however, and we were driven by golf cart to and from our tents. We were free to walk around during the day, but only escorted after dark, which we appreciated. We enjoyed two of the river cruises during our stay where we watched elephants swimming in the river, hippos hiding beneath the surface except for their heads, crocodiles, and many, many bird species. The other days we took an exciting helicopter ride over Victoria Falls, visited an elephant rescue, and toured the falls on the ground. Wonderful experiences. Every meal we had was fabulous. Everything is locally resourced and fresh. Great selections, too, on the varying menus. We were in one of the newer "tents" our first nights, and I must say that they are anything but the tents I usually see. These were gorgeous, with elaborate bathrooms, including a shower and large soaking tub, both inside and outside the tent on the deck. Rooms were amazing with a large bed encased in a graceful mosquito netting canopy, nice sitting area, and refrigerator. Outside was a deck with a small plunge pool where we could watch the elephants go by. The water was too chilly for us, but in the summer months, it would be refreshing. Our last night we moved to one of the older tents (numbered 1-4). It was very nice, too, but a step down from the first one. It did have two bedrooms, however. I would highly recommend staying here for an immersive experience.

TK, the manager, made arrangements for the preschool to open during our stay (it had just closed for winter break on the day we arrived). We had brought goody bags of school supplies and small toys for the kids, and was hoping to give to them in person. TK surprised us with the news and we could not have been more appreciative. The experience was truly the highlight of our three week trip to Southern Africa! We had the pleasure of having Lucky as our guide for the two nights we stayed at the property. The sunset river boat cruise on the Zambezi River was magical! Lucky took us on a walking tour of Victoria Falls, after our helicopter tour. We are so glad we did both! Got to experience the grandeur of the Falls from many vantage points. Michael, our golf cart driver to and from our suite, was delightful! And, we had a blast hanging with Admire at the bar! He is a ray of sunshine! Loved talking with him and trying to learn his mpebele tribe language! We saw lots of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, crocodiles, hippos and beautiful birds. Highly recommend this property!

The sunset tour on the Zambezi is unforgettable – a breathtaking sunset with a relaxed drink, escorted by countless hippos. We arrived at the lodge a day late. The staff did everything to ensure that we could still experience the best the area has to offer: from the Victoria Falls to the fascinating wildlife. Many thanks to the entire team for the special effort. The entire lodge complex, from the rooms to the restaurant, is beautifully designed - and to make the picture complet: The staff made you feel truly welcome.A small tip: take enough cash with you – it is quite possible that the credit card terminal won’t be working on the day of departure.

Wildlife is all around. We saw elephants, water buffalo, and warthogs all within the hotel property. Faithy was our guide throughout the stay. He was incredibly knowledgeable and guided with such a care for the wildlife. We saw tons of animals on the game drives. The river cruises were beautiful and a nice change of pace. The hotel is close to Victoria Falls and well worth the visit. The hotel service was impeccable. The food was great. Agreppa was a wonderful server. The rooms are beautiful. It's well worth the stay!

Staff are welcoming and extremely helpful, game viewing is excellent ( hippos, impalas, kudu, buffalo, elephants, birds etc) and the river scenery is superb. Food is excellent as well. My wife and I have traveled extensively, and this is near the top of our list.

We were greeted by very friendly staff at every turn and a frozen elderflower drink which quickly became my favorite. The short drive to our chalet via golf cart was super convenient and when we arrive at our room we were utterly and completely impressed. After traveling all day and our third camp, we were so happy to be welcomed into such a comfortable and luxurious hotel. The bathtub with views of the wildlife was out of this world. Love the outdoor shower. Even though this was a 10/10 the best thing about Victoria Falls River Lodge was Glanda. She was an amazing server and very sweet -- I would still her if I could and she should be recognized as great potential!

- clarwiley (10/5): Incredible, once in a lifetime experience!!! - Victoria Falls River Lodge, Island Treehouse Suites, is one of those places that does not feel real until you are actually standing there. You boat out to your own private island in the Zambezi and suddenly you are living in the middle of the river with hippos grunting and elephants wandering past like it is no big deal. Our suite had a plunge pool and a treehouse deck that looked straight across the water, the kind of view that makes you forget phones even exist. Waking up to the sound of the river and watching the sun set from the pool… ridiculous, in the best way. The experiences were nonstop. We went out on sunset cruises with crocs sliding into the water and hippos popping up like whack-a-mole, and then into game drives where we saw elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, monkeys, baboons, every kind of antelope, mongoose, and so many birds. We didn’t get lucky with lions or leopards in our three days, but honestly it didn’t matter. Our guide, Melusi, was AMAZING. He made every drive a masterclass, teaching us about the country, the people, the animals, even the trees. It was our first safari and he made it unforgettable. At the lodge itself, animals just wander by. One morning an elephant was literally on the path to our suite, close enough to hear him breathe. Equal parts WOW and slightly terrifying knowing how smart and powerful they are. Hippos grunted at night, monkeys swung around during the day. You’re basically sharing the island with them. The people here make the whole experience even better. Romeo was the sweetest butler, Lisa and the rest of the staff were always one step ahead, and everyone treated us with warmth and humor. Meals were so good, from fresh fish and seasonal veggies to springbok and an African BBQ night that was a highlight. The spa and gym are across the water at the main lodge, brand new and stocked, and we even saw a buffalo drinking at the waterhole from the treadmill which is honestly insane. Of course you have to see Victoria Falls itself. We went in mid August and the water level was medium, still spraying enough to soak us, but with clear views of the gorge. The lodge gives you raincoats so you just laugh through it. Standing there with the thunder of the falls all around is one of those pinch-me life moments. Every second here was joy, awe, and gratitude rolled together. It is not just a place to stay, it is an experience that wraps around you. We left already plotting when we could come back. Unforgettable does not even begin to cover it.

Accommodations are very comfortable and every staff member goes out of their way to ensure guests have a memorable stay. The entire lodge is situated inside the Zambezi National Park, so animals roam freely. Elephants, monkeys, warthogs, and many other animals passed by our unit every day and both the sunrize and sunet boat safaris were incredibly relaxing and allowed us to see wlidlife, including hippos on land along the banks.

Victoria Falls River Lodge exceeded all our expectations. A perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable moments. We can’t wait to return!
- WIGolfers (10/5): Wonderful place to just relax and enjoy - We stayed here as a brief break from safari activities. We booked a 'Starbed treehouse suite' on the island. Everything was top notch - from the arrival greeting, the guides (Blessed and Jaimie), the butler (Romeo) and a very hands on camp manager (Sharon). The food was excellent, the room immaculate, and the overall property was clean and beautiful. The starbed suite was a neat idea, but we found that we had a much better view from our lower deck. However we did find out that, at the moment, the Starbed rooms are larger. We only did the offered sunset cruise and a private tour of the falls (highly recommended - you can go early before the crowds). Also make sure to check out the spa - it is truly a unique experience.

We stayed in the Island Treehouse Suites, which were stunning—private plunge pools, open-air decks, and views of hippos, elephants, and crocodiles right from the property and on the boat rides to the mainland. The island and lodge setting is serene and beautifully designed, with thoughtful touches throughout. What made the experience truly exceptional was the staff. From Sharon, who helped us navigate schedule changes with grace and humor, to Blessed, who handled every transfer and activity with care, to Reeves, who took care of us everyday from meals to drinks, to anything else we needed—we felt so well looked after. The sunset cruises, tour of the Falls, and peaceful mornings by the water made it all unforgettable. Meals were fresh and delicious, and the lodge’s flexibility and kindness stood out—especially as we adjusted plans due to flight delays. One of the things that surprised me the most was the wildlife that we'd see on the boat transfers - they were mini-game cruises. We saw hippos, elephants, crocodiles, and so many wonderful birds. Blessed did such a great job being on the lookout to spot something and cruise over to the area so that we could get a better look. While we didn't do a game drive, one day we were driving to the gate of the park, and one of the guides radioed that there was a lion sighting, so we were able to see a couple of lions in the park that day! We left with full hearts and deep gratitude. Can’t wait to return. Tip: Book all tours through the Lodge to make coordinating plans seamless because the team there will make sure that the schedule makes sense - something that I didn't know before we went, and our agent booked activities with a third party. The treehouses are stunning but require boat access, so extra time is needed for transfers. The Treehouses are absolutely worth it though.
- W52EX (10/5): Sheer luxury - What an amazing place! We were driven from Chobe National Park in Botswana to be met by Mike our guide for the 3 nights & 4 days we were staying in Victoria Falls River Lodge. Mike loaded our luggage onto a motor boat and zoomed us 15 minutes along the Zambezi to be met by waving staff on the jetty at the camp reception / main hub. After completing check in formalities we were taken in a golf cart to our Luxury tent, no.16, at the far end of the camp. Tent!?!?! Tent only in that some of the walls had a canvas covering on them and there was a canvas canopy over part of the sun deck. It’s not like any tent we’ve ever been in, more a luxury lodge finished to the very highest standard - and it was huge too. Massive bed with lovely linen, inside & outside twin showers, inside & outside baths, large sun deck with comfortable beds and a plunge pool to cool you down. Absolutely amazing and faultless. There was actually a second bedroom but we just locked the door & didn’t use this. It was an all inclusive package so all food & drink included breakfast & dinner were very good each day other than the BBQ night. Dinner is served until 2030 but when we got there at 1945 the meats had all already been cooked and were sitting under a hot lamp. This meant very dry and tasteless, so better to bbq to order rather than just pre cook a random set of meats. Wines were good and there was a selection of beers & spirits included too. Some premium spirits eg malt scotch whisky (yes, that is the correct spelling, I’m Scottish so I know!) there was a supplement to pay if you didn’t want to drink the ghastly bourbon whiskey - leave that for people who don’t know any better. Or primary reason to come here was to view Victoria Falls. We left 0630 and Mike took us there on a guided walking tour. Pretty amazing but be very careful as there are areas where the fencing is either flimsy or non existent so it would be pretty easy to fall in and that would be a horrible death. It’s USD $50 per person to get into the patk, guide is additional cost. The day after the walk we did the falls again but this time from the air. We used Zambezi Helicopters Company and did their 25 minute “spectacular” flight which was, well, spectacular! Cost is about USD $300 per person. They have a good safety record. We did a couple of land based games drives with Mike but having come from Botswana where we saw everything, we wanted to focus on the river and Mike didn’t disappoint. On the sunset cruise Mike found a number of massive hippos just lurking under the surface. We also saw gigantic crocodiles. The teeth on the things look razor sharp so don’t put your fingers in the water! On our last day Nike showed us a family of hippos basking in the sun: mum; dad & baby! All the staff were excellent and very friendly. One or two were a little bit disappointed that we chose to put our top in an envelope so that the whole team benefited, not just front of house. Naturally we’re tipped mile our guide separately as that’s only fair.

The view from the room over on the island, the cleanliness and natural professionalism of the staff as well as the food quality all combines to make once in a lifetime special memories. Because of the very limited number of guests on the island where we stayed, it’s also very personal.
- Werner91164 (10/5): Great Lodge - Should you ever go to Victoria Falls, book a luxury tent at this lodge. The tents are high European standard. The tours with the guides are very interesting. The lodge is in a natural reservat so on your way to town you may see elephants, zebras, giraffes, birds. The boat trip in the evening is wonderful. I would like to come back!
- hooda_17 (10/5): Luxurious without being pretentious - Incredible!! The boat transfer on arrival just set the tone for the whole stay (very white lotus vibes). The attention to detail throughout the lodge was beautiful and all of the staff were perfectly attentive without being intrusive. I barely noticed they were there until they arrived at just the right time to top up my glass or point out a roaming buffalo over dinner. As a solo female traveller I felt very safe and looked after within the lodge, nothing was too much trouble and the management coming to have a casual chat in the bar before dinner really just highlighted the luxurious but non pretensions feeling through the lodge. The private game drive with Polite was a particular highlight for me. Due to his skill and experience we were the first car to find the lion in the early morning, before he positioned us perfectly for an amazing elephant encounter as they passed all around us within touching distance of the vehicle. Elephant and hippo sightings from my plunge pool weren’t bad either. I can’t wait to come back!

We had our first of many game rides that first afternoon. The river boat evening cruise on the Mighty Zambezi was fantastic. The staff, food and accommodations were first class. The rooms were modern, clean updated and spectacular view over the river. Can't say enough about how well we were treated the entire time from arrival to departure. This is the place to stay in Victoria Falls.

We were lucky enough to stay in the Island Suites and it was the perfect place for a honeymoon. You are embedded in nature, gorgeous views. The activities are well planned - you never get bored. The food is amazing! And most of all, the staff are incredibly kind, friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and go above and beyond to ensure you are happy. The attention to detail is next level. If you have the chance, absolutely stay here! You won’t regret it.

This calm, understated yet luxurious open camp sits gracefully on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, offering a front-row seat to one of Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes. We were welcomed with expansive views, a cool breeze, warm smiles, and a chilled drink—an invitation to slow down and embrace the rhythm of the wild. A gentle but clear safety briefing reminded us that we were guests in nature’s domain, setting the stage for an experience unlike any other. Our stand-alone tent was a private sanctuary, beautifully appointed with every comfort. The private deck—complete with plunge pool, breakfast table, lounger, and an outdoor bathtub—became our favorite place to watch sunrises and stargaze in the evening. The food was a highlight in itself: healthy, flavorful, and elegantly presented. The staff were consistently warm and welcoming. “Saint” Francis, our bartender and host, lived up to his name, while TK, the property manager, struck the perfect balance of attentiveness and discretion. Our guide, Jamie, made our stay unforgettable. His deep knowledge of the area’s wildlife and ecosystems added richness to every excursion. We’ll never forget the awe of watching three elephants swim across the river—just one of many magical moments. For travelers seeking the perfect blend of comfort, wilderness, and wonder, we cannot recommend Malachite Suites at Victoria Falls River Lodge highly enough.
- Ian441672 (10/5): Once in a lifetime - views to be in awe of. - After 18 hours travelling we finally arrived in Victoria Falls airport, and were met by our driver in a comfy mini-bus, where the two of us were cheerily transferred in 30 minutes to the boat that would ultimately, 15 minutes later, take us to the hotel. We were met with a smiling and welcoming team and whilst our luggage was seamlessly whisked away to our room, we completed our check-in in relaxed comfort of the open hotel lobby in very comfy chairs! We were soon whisked away by buggy (recommended and advised - we saw later to/from our room a tribe of baboons and a hippo in the grounds, so always best to be escorted!), to our room. We were incredibly lucky to have stayed in the expansive and luxurious Rapids Villa suite, a three / four bedroom multi-levelled and very large villa, with indoor and outdoor bathrooms, seating both indoor and outdoor for 10+ people, as well as sweeping views of the Zambezi river from two large bedroom decking areas as well as the main decking / viewing point off the lounge area. There were a variety of seating options, from deck chairs, sofa's, swing chairs, bar stool or sunbeds. The room had everything you could need, coffee machines in every room, ice maker, fridges in all the rooms, 2 large wine fridges and a huge well stocked high end bar, most of it included with some high end brands at a supplement. The bedrooms had ample storage space, wardrobes and shelves galore and you could want for nothing. The views were to die for and whilst we have travelled the world extensively in 5 star properties, this has to be the biggest room we have ever stayed in with the most breath-taking of views. Hippos would wake us up in the morning and swim right past, birds would swoop by, and elephants would graze and play in the water right outside our decking area. We were often just sitting there in awe of the majesty of it all not wanting to move. The property itself was spread over and along the Zambezi river with a variety of views, and I believe the higher numbered rooms (especially 15 & 16, which were just beyond our villa) had a more open view of the river. The main dining and reception area was only a 5 minutes buggy ride away where we would have our meals. Breakfast was a A La Carte selection and a small buffet, all good quality and plenty to choose from. Lunch was also good, whilst dinner alternated from the main dining area A La Carte to a BBQ type dinner in the nearby bar and dining area. Here, things were freshly cooked, not too much variety but good quality. There was a couple of salads and 2-3 hot options and we even ventured into Crocodile Curry (yes, similar to chicken!). With the main dining, the menu was not too expansive and was repeated every other day that we saw which limited our choice, but you could not fault the quality and taste and we always looked forward to meal times. Overall, the main thing apart from our room that stood out, was the level of service. Everyone seemed so happy in their job, the management team were attentive and were always checking in on us, everyone was smiling and talkative, knowledgeable and professional, friendly and just happy to be there. Our guide Mike was very informative and knowledgeable when taking us out on evening game drives or sunset cruises (we saw a multitude of game with both options, including the rare sight of 2 female and one male lion stalking a herd of buffalo's). Bumi who looked after our room amenities, cleaning and stocking up ('I just love cleaning!' she would proclaim and you could see literally and physically that she meant it!), was amazing and our private butler looked after our every need dining and room wise. Garvin our buggy driver would always pick us up on time with a story to tell and a friendly smile. All the staff were so friendly, it was always great to interact with them all. We had a lovely 5 nights to relax, see plenty of animals and gaze wondrously as the moon rose or the sunset from our balcony areas, watching the world of the Zambezi go by. A small slice of heaven which we were very lucky enough to enjoy - thanks to the whole team - it really was a once in a lifetime experience.
- alphal07 (10/5): Unforgettable - Met or exceeded all our expectations. Food was what I would expect from a 5 star hotel, service faultless. Both land and water safaris were excellent - guides Chips and Khetto were fatastic. We were fortunate to go out on our own on several occasions with Chips who is very qualified and experienced and a great ambassador for his country and the hotel. We were fortunate to be in a Treehouse Suite, which was spotless, spacious and was the perfect place to relax in between morning and evening game excursions. Obert was faultless in serving drinks, great food and generally looking after us. Peter was excellent in managing the site. Would highly recommend - an unforgettable 4 days.

The river views stunning! Five points for the package….but….please work on the food quality…..that is max 4 stars out of 5! Not consistent….sometimes great and next moment opposite! But in this case in total….5 stars….who need with that view and package perfect food? OK….will be nice! 😉 Thanks for the outstanding time! Special thanks to Charles….great job!
- donnabO7399VN (10/5): Truly wonderful - We stayed in one of the beautiful Malachite tented suites overlooking the Zambezi. Such a beautiful, tranquil, spot. The suite was stunning, spotlessly clean and so luxurious. The staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble, their hospitality really was second to none. The food was excellent, every meal was fabulous! What an amazing chef they have there. On top of all that, we had our own driver (Charles) who took us on a river cruise, 2 game drives and on a guided tour around Victoria Falls. He truly was amazing and so knowledgeable. We really can’t thank the VFRL enough for such a wonderful experience. We hope we will be able to return in the future.

Simply a superb experience! The accommodations are quite similar to these pictures - simple, comfortable, peaceful, and private. Excellent staff (Peter as manager, Roy our butler and on-premises guide) - very attentive and enjoyable. Delicious food, with a great variety of options (Chef T is talented) and wonderful atmosphere. Wonderful guide (referred to as "Kato"). Relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable stay, much too short. We want to return as soon as possible!

From start to finish, everything was perfect. The service was outstanding, and the staff truly made the experience unforgettable. Everyone—from the chef to the grounds staff—was warm, welcoming, and dedicated to ensuring a top-tier experience. The rooms have a beautiful rustic exterior while offering modern comfort inside. The property itself is stunning, and I found it worth every penny. My tour guide, Mike, was hospitable and thoughtful, making every excursion even more enjoyable. The woman who handled laundry and ironing went above and beyond—her attention to detail was truly appreciated. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to add more lighting around the property, but that’s a minor note in an otherwise flawless stay. I would absolutely return and highly recommend this lodge—10/10! A fantastic experience all around.

One of our bags was lost in transit and the lodge arranged to get the bag collected from the airport for us and delivered it to our room. All staff were very friendly and made sure to stop and talk to you everyday. Any request was not an issue. We had amazing trips organised for us so we didn't have to do anything but enjoy our holiday. There was honestly nothing negative to say. It really was an amazing holiday
