Guest Reviews
- Richard (9/5): -
- Peter (8/5): Pleasant - Friendly and helpful staff No shower mat
- Ken (8/5): Great food and hospitality. - Parking, good food, quiet area. Stairs up to bedroom very quirky but to be expected for a property of the age.
- suzanne (8/5): Really friendly pub stay, great room with a fantastic breakfast. - Friendly staff, really comfortable bed and very quiet at night. Shampoo and conditioner could have been provided. Plus shower cap.
- PILAR (10/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): -
- Joan (9/5): Lovely overnight stay in West Grinstead. - The landlord made us very welcome and even offered us use of his laptop to help us out. All the staff were warm and friendly and the room was clean with a comfortable bed and lovely bedding. Great location , we wanted to be near Knepp , 5 minute drive away. Nothing
- Mary (10/5): -
- Stuart Paul (3/5): Disappointing - Adequate bed, good location. The bathroom had a drain or musty smell that went into the room, a really small room which seemed a lot smaller than advertised, basic breakfast, far too expensive for what we got (and generally felt very different to what was advertised).
- Rita (10/5): -
- Zwalia (6/5): - Het ontbijt, nogal primitief
- Val (8/5): -
- Magdalena (7/5): - Location, staff, pub design, views Misleading info about breakfast- no cooked breakfast just a basic continental, moldy shower door and wall, empty shower gel container, water in the kettle from previous guest. We stayed in Deluxe Room and nothing was luxury there:(.
- Nicola (8/5): -
- Webb (6/5): A good stay - The staff were very good.
The food was good pub grub.
Locals were brilliant
Comfortable bed
Good tv
Skylight window and blind opened & shut well No view through windows as covered in ivy only sky light for air and light
Very small bathroom
No space to put wash kit on
Walls a bit thin
- Amanda (8/5): - The restaurant in the pub was really nice The parking was a nightmare and that wasn’t explained. Also breakfast was very basic, only dry and cold foods
- Marilyn (7/5): - Very comfortable bed! Friendly helpful staff Good food Bathroom was tired and mouldy. Small bedroom with nowhere to sit! Website said breakfast included but only continental during the week and you had to book order and pay for cooked breakfast at the weekend! Not made clear on booking and not clear on arrival!
- Clive (8/5): We wanted a place close to Knepp. This was brilliant. - It was welcoming, comfortable and well equipped. There is good dog walking very close by for our two. It is clearly a very popular inn locally so parking off road was difficult. The car park always had spaces after closing time.
Our room (5) was up in the top of the property.
- Mark (9/5): - Comfy bed. Nice atmosphere. Small room. Limited breakfast.
- Stijn (8/5): great place for a quick stop to sleep and eat when travelling in UK - rooms were very nice and clean, everything we needed was there. perfect when travelling for a short stay.
also has a pub and restaurant for those thirsty and hungry :) the breakfast did not include anything warm like eggs, bacon,.... extra needed to be payed on site.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Victoria (8/5): - Excellent dinner in the pub
- Gemma (7/5): - Lovely building with period features, bed very comfy,
Staff helpful, coffee available in the morning Bathroom bit dated, breakfast lots variety, nothing fresh apart from some fruit.
- Yorick (10/5): Ruim en comfortabel in een charmante setting - Vriendelijke en vlotte ontvangst, charmant gebouw, comfortabele bedden, goeie douche, lekker pub-eten, uitgebreid ontbijt, mooie natuurlijke omgeving, prima uitvalsbasis voor bv. Wakehurst. Niks
- Karen (8/5): - Staff were super friendly, the food was delicious, I had the Sunday roast beef and it was gorgeous!
- steve (10/5): -
- Smith (8/5): Adequate. - A comfy , quaint room. The small size of room for such a big bed and the undeveloped floors! I am 78.
- Lara (9/5): - Beautiful restaurant / B&B in a scenic location. The room was lovely, staff were helpful & friendly and the food was outstanding!
- Ben (8/5): -
- john (10/5): Perfect old English country pub stopover -
- David (8/5): - Lovely old pub- great atmosphere - lovely room - very comfy bed No cooked breakfast on a Monday - I love a full English when away - the breakfast menu looked fantastic

- Andrew (10/5): - Everything
- Cassie (6/5): Nice pub let down by dirty bedrooms - Cozy fire place !!
Mac & cheese bites yum
Roast & scampi fine Dirty bedroom cobwebs dust carpet not hoovered &v dirty !!! Had to put the towel on the carpet to walk on floor after our shower.
Toilets orange on toilet seat v dirty.
Mirrors shocking !!
Grab and go breakfast very hectic this morning all the guest trying to make their hot drinks and toast in the same area 🤦🏻♀️
Tables in restaurant super close.
When we left this morning the man behind the bar didn’t ask us if everything was ok.
Such a shame 😩
- Jo-Anne (10/5): A seamless process, from beginning to end. - A really quaint property.
- Nikki (10/5): -
- Zara (8/5): Great value for money! - Spacious family room in quaint pub. Good set up for family with dog. Very accommodating owners. Not really a criticism, just for info. Continental breakfast very basic but understandable given the room rate. Option for cooked breakfast as optional extra was available.
- Sutton (8/5): I love staying here so warm and friendly - The only issue was the room. Ceiling very low as an attic room kept banging my head and stairs up very steep. Stairs not great
- Steve (9/5): Perfect. Staff were exemplary - Great location
Friendly .
- Estelle (5/5): - Good restaurant for evening meal Uncomfortable beds, needed to be cleaner, the breakfast that’s included is not good
- Natalie (10/5): Friendly, welcoming, clean, comfortable and had absolutely everything we wanted. - Friendly, welcoming, clean, comfortable and had absolutely everything we wanted. We had roast dinner which was the best pub roast dinner we've ever had and the continental breakfast was perfect for us. We stayed in the family room with our 2 young children, which worked perfectly of us. Nothing at all
- Alexander (10/5): -
- Jon (9/5): Great Inn in a great location for walking, visiting Knepp and the Downs Link. Great food. -
- Clare (10/5): Go here, brilliant stay - Big dog x and very welcoming Can't say any anything negative
- Terence (10/5): - Fabulous traditional pub friendly staff and good food .What else could you ask for !
- Neil (10/5): We will stay here again for sure - Staff were helpful and friendly.
Room was very comfortable.
Continental breakfast was most satisfactory.
Ambience in public areas was relaxing and cheerful Dedicated parking would have been useful
- Deborah (7/5): Friendly staff with a convenient location. - The room was lovely although some mould around the glass in the shower. There was plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate for drinks with kettle and cups in the room. The bed was clean and comfortable. It was in a convenient location and a good variety of food was on offer with fresh vegetables. I had a creme brulee for pud which was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and I felt safe as a lone female traveller. My dissappointment was the breakfast which was a self service pre packaged affair which was dissapointing. The dinner I had great vegetables but the fish was over cooked.
- Jamie (10/5): - Great
- Kevin (10/5): -
- Mark (8/5): - Food and staff were excellent. The room was very comfortable, whole experience well worth the money
- Alfonso (10/5): -
- Jo (9/5): A home-away-from home with a comfy bed. - Beautifully maintained property. From the moment you arrive you feel welcomed. Shown the areas where breakfast is served to your bedroom which was beautifully decorated with a gorgeous en-suite. I couldn’t find fault with the property.
- Aaron (10/5): -
- Catherine (10/5): A delightful break away - A comfortable room with all the facilities you need.
Delicious evening meal and attentive staff.
All in all- a lovely night’s stay.
- Allison (10/5): -
- Len (10/5): -
- Brian (10/5): Would highly recommend a stay here, will definitely use again. - Lovely Country Pub, friendly staff, great accomodation, and the food was superb. NA
- Sutton (8/5): Good - I did ask for the room i had stayed in previously and told I could. Not very keen on the room given as was outside and not inside the pub. Felt a bit uneasy out there. The outside room, small and not a good shower.
- Nina (9/5): - It was a lovely proper old pub with a roaring fire and good atmosphere. The food was lovely and we slept well in the comfortable bed. Nothing!
- Mary (9/5): - Very comfortable bed, lovely evening meal. Peaceful location.
- Patrick mara (10/5): - Staff were really friendly and very helpful, food was unbelievable. Would highly recommend to stay here
- Alex (10/5): - Staff were friendly, relaxed, and helpful. Room was basic as you would expect for the price, but perfectly comfortable, clean, and with all the usual tea, coffee etc. The pub itself was a typical old world pub, with roaring fire, low beams, and cosy relaxing atmosphere. Very happy with our stay.
- Clegg (9/5): Traditional pub with clean rooms. - Lovely traditional pub setting with restaurant area. Room clean and tidy. Quiet location once work traffic finished. Nothing
- Joanne (10/5): Excellent stay - Lovely cosy and quiet room. Great pub food, cosy fire, incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. Felt very taken care of. Thank you! Nothing
- THOMAS (10/5): -
- Tim (8/5): - We have stayed here many times. It is consistently good, and caters well for us and our 2 large dogs.
- Michelle (5/5): Lovely pub in a lovely location with great staff. Rooms are cute for a nights stay. - The location and staff are lovely. The room is cute and does the job for a cosy one night stay. Room 6 in the annexe backs onto the outside hut which can be noisy when people are In there. Their was no shower gel in the dispenser in the shower and when filling the kettle for my second coffee in the room I found false eyelashes stuck in it 🤢 so didn’t go for the second coffee and felt pretty sick I’d used the kettle already. Who does that I’ll never know but the kettle mustn’t be cleaned or checked as you can see them.
- Deborah (8/5): Very convenient for a stop over before our ferry crossing, we were made very welcome. - Location from Newhaven ferry Would have preferred a cooked breakfast but the self service continental was excellent
- Chris (7/5): - Continental breakfast
- Ryan (7/5): - Comfy bed, beautiful country feel to the room. "Breakfast " included
- Ian (10/5): - Great location 👌 everything was spot on, would definitely go back just to stay there , it was that 👍 Nothing, all good
- AndyJF (5/5): - I cannot comment, because I did not actually make it to the hotel, so not fair to review, BUT ... I did want to say thank you to the staff member who called me late in the evening to check whether I was coming or not. Very impressed!! Not applicable.
- Adrian (10/5): Lovely friendly staff, cosy pub & rooms, nice & clean with everything you need, nice evening meal & plenty o - Cosy old country pub in a lovely peaceful location
- Jane (10/5): - Friendly, helpful staff N/A
- Hannah (7/5): -
- stuart (8/5): - Nice and quiet location and food was great. Staff 10/10 Nothing to speak of
- Jane (8/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Cassey (9/5): Sussex country stay - Good food.
Friendly staff
Ye olde building charm Soap dispenser in shower and by sink. One was virtually empty and disappointing there wasn't one for shampoo and conditioner. Minor whinge .
Parking was limited when I got there as it was pub open time but staff helped by moving one of their cars
- Brianna (10/5): This place is absolutely unreal. Really classic beautiful stay and the owners are amazing. Went out of their way to help -
- Rosser (10/5): - Fantastic pub, staff were friendly, room was lovely, quaint old pub. Well worth a visit Not a lot to dislike, if I was going to look for something would just be the fact there was no hairdryer in the room.
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Isabelle (9/5): -
- Kane (10/5): Cute and cosy - Cute and cosy Nothing, place was spot on
- David (9/5): Most enjoyable and relaxing - The room was clean, cosy and comfortable. Wonderful views from the window and just the right temperature for this time of year. Full of character. I particularly liked the poster on the wall which said "Let's just stay in bed" The breakfast coffee machine refused to work - it said it needed some attention.
- Henry (7/5): Nice stay , traditional friendly pub - Quirky, warm and welcoming Rooms needed a bit of TLC .
Booking.com mislead over the breakfast.
- Natasha (6/5): Quite expensive for the quality of room facilities. Overall a pleasant stay but shouldn’t have cut corners when all the - The character, staff and location. Staff really friendly and helpful. Downstairs bar area really cosy and welcoming. Bedroom felt crammed, plastic window inappropriate for age and character of the building. Shelving in bathroom not adequate. Screen by bath needs replacing, there was black staining on silicone. Soap dispenser under shower needs replacing. Breakfast full of packet long life stuff. Could have bought items from a counter in a garage.
- Jamie (8/5): - The old pub No cooked breakfast
- Alison (8/5): -
- Tony (9/5): -
- Pravi (10/5): -
- philip (10/5): Highly recommended - Lovely pub with friend staff and atmosphere, rooms clean and comfortable, dogs were welcome Parking could be difficult as gets busy
