Michael (10/5): Awesome stay in a beautiful spot - This was a terrific hotel! Manager made time to pick me up from the airport and drive me back, the rooms are classic, clean and have great historic touches, and the location is perfect for exploring the park.
John (6/5): - The first room we were in the heater wouldn’t work. I will say the staff was very accommodating in moving us to another room in which the heat worked but very poorly. The proximity of the rooms to the street made them loud.

EDMUND (4/5): - Main hotel not as advertised. Very old and run down. Very difficult to understand the woman that checked us in. We were put in one of the units in the back of the hotel parking lot. It was very old and run down. The heater was very old and ran poorly.

Cynthia (8/5): Nice place. - Staff very friendly and accommodating. Beautifully decorated. Ceiling in room sagging some. A bit snug getting to our parking spot when larger vehicles parked by side. Enjoyed our stay and West Yellowstone.
Candace (8/5): - I did not want to do any driving on this vacation. This property is close to everything that I wanted to see and do. The Yellowstone tour buses pick up here and the staff will also shuttle you to and from the airport. I was able to walk to: Yellowstone's entrance, gift shops, the visitor's center, historic museum and restaurants. The staff was just great and I liked my room. Two dislikes that are very much "fixable" - Im suggesting hair nets for the cleaning staff (long brown hairs on my blanket) and please, please clean the rug (footprints and stains everywhere)

WI-FI was fast and easy to connect our devices to. The area is very walkable with lots of shopping and dining options. The property also has a connected restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s location provides easy access to Yellowstone’s west entrance.

Hayato (10/5): - The Madison Historical Hotel is a good value considering that accommodations in this area are generally expensive. I found the location, service, and room to be fair or even a good deal. Here are some details that may help those who want to consider every aspect before booking: • Noise: Sounds from outside carry easily. Since the parking lot is right in front, I could clearly hear cars and motorcycles, and even conversations if people were talking near the entrance. This was stressful in the morning. However, traffic from the road was not an issue due to the distance. • Front door lock: The door was very difficult to open. While this may indicate stronger security, it required using one hand to turn the key, another to handle the doorknob, and also pushing the door with my body. Returning with luggage made this inconvenient. • Air conditioning: The AC could not be turned off. Even after switching it off, it would restart automatically and cool the room again. I had to raise the temperature settings to reduce the cold, but the system sometimes reset itself and started cooling again, which was frustrating. • Shower: The shower head allowed adjustment of spray type and strength, but the overall water pressure was a little weak, which may be inconvenient for guests who prefer strong water flow. Despite these points, I had a very comfortable stay overall, and I still give this hotel the highest rating. Thank you very much for the hospitality.

David (10/5): Super helpful reception staff - Both reception staff were very helpful. Made the most of our free USD10 vouchers for Timberline cafe next door. Best of all we received free tickets for the rodeo down the road which were planning to attend anyway - and enjoyed the show :-)

The rooms are small, lacks modern amenities, there's no breakfast, no way it justifies the $300+ per night charge. I've had better experiences in places that charge a third of this one. The person at the front desk, let himself into the room when I am out, that sounded very creepy and unsafe. Never would I stay at this place again.

Owner checked us in and gave lots of info on area. He even took time to listen to our intended itinerary and gave us some suggestions to make it better. If you get the chance to chat with him, he is a wealth of knowledge, listen to his suggestions :)

Angela (6/5): Okay for Yellowstoy - Easy check in and had a room out the back in the motel park. Room fairly small and had a musty smell carpet could do with cleaning or even replacing. Clean bedroom apart from the carpet and bed okay. Water mark on ceiling. Walls a little thin can hear snoring from next door. Coffee, ice and a small breakfast area. Yellowstone is expensive and so is this place.

Jessica (10/5): - The motel is a little old, and water pressure is not great, but overall our stay was pleasant. We were happy to have a refrigerator in our room. Local restaurants are $ so saving leftovers and ability to store cold cuts was a plus. Coffee was good, staff was super friendly and location to everything, including the park, was excellent. We were nervous when we first pulled up, but it was great. Be aware, I think some rooms share a bathroom, so make sure to read all the details. The motel room had bathrooms.

TMann23057 (8/5): Beautiful Yellowstone 🥰 - This is a cute, clean Motel, with everything you could asked for. It is a historical Hotel / Motel from the early 1900, of course it has had updates, but it is not new, it is rustic and suit’s the area. It is walking distance to shops, restaurants and there is a nice restaurant next to it too. We had breakfast there twice and it was yummy. Our room had a comfortable bed, small bathroom, which it was clean, but the shower curtain had a musty smell. The towels were nice & clean. We stayed in room 117, the room had a nice king size bed, refrigerator, microwave. In the hotel, there is a nice area inside where you can get coffee, coco, and/or tea accessible at all hours. The Motel room was affordable and comfortable, and will highly recommend it. I can tell the owner(s) or manager running it takes pride in it. There is also a cute Gift shop that if you are staying with them, you get a discount on purchases. We enjoyed our stay there and love Yellowstone, which is at a short distance. After a whole day in the park it is nice to rest in a place that is close by. The only thing besides replacing and/or washing the shower curtain will be fixing the door gap, which lets cold air come in at night, we placed a small towel in there at night. Everything else was great. Blessings to you all!

The gift shop was awesome; loved the discounts on everything after Labor Day!
409MichelleH409 (10/5): Great place to stay for Yellowstone National Park. - This is a great place to stay if you are visiting Yellowstone. The hotel is situated very close to the national park entrance and is easy to find. There is ample free parking on the streets around the hotel, we were lucky and got a space very close to the rear entrance. The rooms are quite small but they are well appointed, comfortable and quiet. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from within walking distance.
Shaun (10/5): - This is a great place to stay if you are visiting Yellowstone National park. The hotel is very easy to find and the is plenty of free car parking on the streets around the hotel, we were lucky and got a space close to the hotels rear entrance. The rooms are quiet, comfortable and cosy (small).

jerrih93 (10/5): Great Place to Stay - We stayed here a few nights last month. It is a historical hotel, but it is well maintained and very clean. Beds were comfortable. There isn't a coffee maker in the room, but they offer coffee and hot chocolate behind the lobby. We would stay here again when in the area.
dottyk70 (10/5): Wonderful historic hotel/motel - The Madison is a lovely historic hotel/motel right in downtown West Yellowstone. They are within walking distance of a small grocery store and restaurants. The rooms are well maintained and exceptionally clean. They have everything you need except for a coffee maker. However, they have a wonderful coffee and hot chocolate machine available 24 hours a day in the main building. There is a cute gift shop right next to the lobby and they give a discount if you are staying on property. The staff are very friendly and very informative - you can tell they love this area and this motel! We just loved this motel and highly recommend. If we are ever back to West Yellowstone, we would look forward to staying here again!

183jeanninec (4/5): Good location. Not great rooms - Staff is very nice. Good location town for park entrance. Beds are comfortable. Pillows fluffy but flatten. NO ROOM SERVICING. They said this was decided as a town since Covid. Cop out to me. Said they cannot service all now. But you only have the same rooms no matter what. Dirty carpet in room. No coffee pot in room but free coffee and hot chocolate in office/store. Should be under 200.00 a night. We are from Charleston, S C. Same staffing issues but rooms get serviced! Pick somewhere else
kevintU83UM (4/5): Very Dated and AC does not work - While the hotel is located convenient to the downtown area, the facility is very dated, and I understand that it was built over 100 years ago but I would think the bathrooms could have been updated. Our main issue was the air conditioner did not work. Turned the AC on at night and it came on for about 60 seconds and then went off and would not come back on. Tried turning it cooler and off/on but nothing worked. Spoke to the front desk and they explained some "tricks" to get it to work but again it would not stay on more than 30-60 seconds. So two nights of little sleep due to the warm temps in the room. When we checked out the clerk barely acknowledged us. I think most of the motels are similar looking but I would try a different hotel.
Kurtis (6/5): - While clean and comfortable, it is primative at best. I had to ask for my room to be cleaned, very thin walls, no tv, some rooms had no bathrooms.
Mike (4/5): - Not good dollar value. Had to park on street after someone yelled at me invtheir back parking lot while I was checking in.Lounge chairs had zero pading...very uncomfortable. Not worth 200 dollars plus a night....

flipper314 (6/5): Quaint/historical, but spoiled by obnoxious young adults - I stayed in one of the older, single rooms that share a common bathroom. On the plus side, it definitely feels like you're in the stagecoach days and staying at an old-fashioned inn. The bathrooms are clean and functional. Two downsides: one, sound passes through the walls like they're not even there. I could hear every word of every conversation next door and downstairs at the front desk/gift shop. And that's the other problem. There were some young adults there who were, quite frankly, obnoxious: yelling into their phones on speaker mode, calling each other the N-word and other profanities (despite the fact that they seemed to belong to a group of evangelical missionaries, go figure). They seemed to be known to an older gentleman who I take it is the owner, so these weren't guests, they were basically locals hanging out in the hotel common area like it was their private living room, which spoiled the experience for me. I won't stay again.

ElevenBus (2/5): Fair Warning - look at the photos - We had spent a couple nights inside Yellowstone NP at the Xanterra lodges and wanted to extend our trip with a night or two outside of the park. We exited at West Yellowstone and thought The Historic Madison Hotel sounded promising. However, when we arrived, we saw the hotel's marquee and its attendant political message. Really?? This "historic" hotel/motel/hostel CHOSE to use its precious marquee space to make such ridiculous proclamations? They are obviously only interested in a certain set of guests, and are not in the least bit concerned about turning off a whole other set of people. Talk about terrible customer relations. NO THANK YOU.
Marjorie (4/5): - I know this is a historic hotel but the men I walked in it was dark and dingy the red carpet on the floor look like it needed cleaning steam cleaning and had an odor. My room had a bathroom, but that room smell too carpets look dirty, and didn’t wanna walk, barefoot Would not stay there again

James (2/5): - Do not stay here! Great location and the gent that checked me in (white hair and beard) was great in every way. No one else was. One female said her family had owned the hotel since 1958 (job security?) be described by words not appropriate here. The second morning (departure) I saw a note stuck under my wiper to stay parked because they sealed the road. i showed her and asked why they had not told me. Note when we got back the prior afternoon the tour bus dropped us off at the front door. Initially she claimed no knowledge whatsoever and suggested I talk to the “boys in blue” across the street. They told me every business there had been informed. When I went back and told her she did not contest what I said but implied I was a dummy for not noting there was a sign at every street corner warning of this. So riddle me this, how did she go from knowing nothing to knowing there was a sign on every corner, “if only I knew how to read.” She continued to be combative and denying any responsibility to inform her customers throughout the rest of the conversation. This time she followed me out and commented why I was the only car there. There were other cars further down the block and a number of parking places not sealed visibly showing there had been a car there when the work was done. When I said that she said something like she sure hoped I learned how to read. As I left I said I would never be back and she replied ‘just go home.” A job/company dependent upon tourism behaves so?

Then there was a separate room with full sized bunk beds on the top and bottom both had full mattresses. Not to mention a second bathroom in that area. And a mini fridge, microwave, and sink in the main area. We LOVED our stay here and would definitely recommend it to any families traveling in the area. They also had a cute restaurant nearby that we really enjoyed. And the gift shop!! GO THERE!! You won’t regret it!!!

eileenk94 (10/5): Historic and Quirky—we loved it! - We chose West Yellowstone for our hotel, based on its proximity to the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park. (BTW plan to enter the park early in the morning to avoid long lines.) West Yellowstone is a fun little town with historic buildings, an Imax theater, library, police station, grocery store, hotels, and restaurants packed into a nine-square block area. Our choice of the Historic Madison Hotel, on the National Register of Historic Places was perfect for us. It was built in 1912 and hosted guests such as Clark Gable, Gloria Swanson, President Herbert Hoover. The first floor has the feel of a small museum, with original log walls and furnishings, and a large, quirky gift shop. Free coffee and beverages are available at the back of the first floor. Note that the hotel also serves as a hostel. The receptionists (usually the owner or his daughter) were all friendly and accommodating. Our motel-style room was functional and clean—nothing fancy, but it worked for us. We entered our room from the street and used free street parking. Adjacent to the hotel (sharing the same building) is an excellent coffee shop/diner that I believe is owned by the hotel owner. We received a discount voucher for our meals.
James (10/5): Yellowstone vacation - This is a 112 year old building. It reminded me of something right out of an old western movie. Our room was small but we had our own bathroom and a king size bed which was very comfortable. The man at the front desk was very nice and very informative about the area. He gave us coupons to save money on our meal at the restaurant next door and free passes to the rodeo that was just outside of town. I loved this historic motel hotel and would absolutely stay here again!!

The bed was comfortable, the room was spectacular, and to top it off we got a $10 coupon to go towards a breakfast, lunch or dinner meal at the cafe right next door! Also we got to use a season pass to the west yellowstone rodeo on our last night in the area which was so much fun!!! We def will be back one of these days! Also i loved the staff they tell you to leave your petsonal bedding in your car & if you need extra pillows or blankets all u have to do is ask for more and they are all over getting more to you quick and efficiently!!! If i could give these guys 100 stars id totally do it!!! Then to top it off they are not far from yellowstone and omg that is must see!!! We got to see old faithful go off and it was gorgeous!!!!!

Debra (8/5): Not for everyone - This is a historic hotel in the most authentic way. Built in 1912 it is not bright & cheery like our more modern hotels. Rooms are small. No microwave, refrigerator or TV. Needs some TLC. HOWEVER, if you want to stay in a place that has a great location, is very unique & interesting, clean rooms, good bed and very friendly people this is the place for you. I will always remember this place & would definitely stay there again.
Pamela S (8/5): - This property would not be for a large family. Small room, old but quaint facility in the Hotel part which is over a gift shop. Motel section from outside looked kind of iffy, but really don’t know about interior. Parking for Hotel was on street but at the time we were there had ample parking right next to hotel. We liked the small quaint feel, but probably not for everyone. Our room had just a soak tub - no shower, however there were shared shower facilities on the floor which were clean and secure with locks. Lig canin feel once in room. No TV- we didnt care. Shared refrig and microwave area if needed but not in room. (no elevator 2 story. We didnt care)

Tired, basic rooms but can park by your room and walk to local restarants (15% discount at good diner around the corner with a card from reception). Stayed for one night ready for a full day at Yellowstone the following day.

Kendra (6/5): Odd but okay - This is an unusual place to stay, but staff are quite friendly. We appreciated the complementary $10 cards for the Timberline Cafe. Very creaky floors and doors and the stairs are not meant for anyone with limited mobility.
Hikari (10/5): - We wished we could have stayed longer and enjoyed the hotel and the surrounding town. The lobby area is so fun and the gift shop is the best in town. We appreciated the hot water/coffee/tea/chocolate service, the ice, and the use of the refrigerator/freezer very much!! The restaurant next door, Timberline, was decent - salad bar and pies!! The little coffee stand was delicious and had huckleberry ice cream!

Mark (6/5): - Note that when selecting a room at the Madison Hotel, that choosing the tv and fridge option puts you in the motel portion of the property, in the back, next to an alley. The room was clean (most important), but very small and a bit rough. Parking is tight. If you're traveling in an RV, forget about it. Those use to marriott's will be disappointed, but the historic lobby is worth a look.
