- Callen (4/5): Unclean & Small Rooms - Stay somewhere else (probably) - The location is convenient, with plenty of great food options nearby, so you won’t go hungry. It’s also about a 15-minute walk from Taipei Main Station, which makes getting around the city relatively easy. The room felt poorly maintained and not very clean. There were visible cracks in the walls and ceiling, lifting lino flooring, and rust on the bathroom floor. The bathroom itself had signs of mould and possible waterproofing issues, which made it feel unhygienic. The layout was also quite impractical—there was no soap by the basin, nowhere suitable to store luggage, and no towel rail, meaning towels didn’t dry properly (and the hotel doesn’t replace towels for staying guests). The shower was awkwardly designed, with very limited space to close the door comfortably. The bed was small and positioned in a way that made the room feel even more cramped, especially for taller guests. The duvet appeared worn and discoloured, which was unpleasant. The air conditioning was also not functioning properly and couldn’t be adjusted, making the room uncomfortable. Although it’s advertised that rooms have no windows, the addition of fake windows with dusty blinds made the space feel more disorienting. Overall, the hotel feels quite run down and doesn’t meet expectations for its rating or price.

- Marcus (9/5): Excellent value - Although check-in is automated and available in different languages, staff are available at the front desk to assist with check-in, check-out, or other questions, and were helpful and efficient in both Mandarin and English. The rooms are relatively spacious, and the bathrooms have ample counter and shower space. The price is also very affordable, especially considering that breakfast (running from 7-10am) is a hot pot buffet, with a great selection of drinks and side dishes (we were able to treat this as brunch and cut down on food spendings during our trip). Room cleaning is also done daily. The location is fairly good, with most popular attractions being less than an hour transit in any direction. Soundproofing was an issue at times (only coming from the hall), but was not bad enough to disturb sleep during our seven day stay (even as a light sleeper). However, the hotel did not seem fully booked during our stay, so it is hard to say how well neighbouring rooms are soundproofed from each other. The building also lacks laundry facilities or a microwave (although 7-11 is across the street). The toilet would also benefit from having a bidet attachment.

The location was also great. Nearby got malls and restaurants. Train station was also a little walk away. The aircon was too cold. Tried increasing the temperature but it doesn't seems to have any effect. It will really help if there's a door that separate the washing area from the main bed area. I also wish the blanket can be a bit longer.

The staff were very rude to me yet I saw them being very nice and actually smile when serving other people. I think the staff prefer the giant tour group bookings they constantly had and not solo bookings etc. If you want to check in early there is no chance, you have to wait till 3 on the dot, no hour early, no ten mins early. The benches in the room could do with a clean as they were sticky from previous guests as well as the toilet had pee stains on the outside from previous guests which wasn't cleaned the whole time I stayed. There are many cables hanging loose as well as lights. The beds are rock hard. There are not many options for breakfast there. If you want any western food you are out of luck as there is none at all. Many times I would go to get coffee and the machine would be out of beans so I would try to get a staff member but I was just constantly ignored. They also do not clean peoples tables after they leave so one morning I almost couldn't find a table to sit at as every table had people's left over plates and mess on which was really unhygienic. One morning I had a cockroach run around on the breakfast table. I personally do not think this is a 4 star hotel and I wish I knew what breakfast was like before I booked as I would not have picked it.

- Lesly (3/5): would absolutely not recommend. - good location, the rooms were clean, and there is a great bar right next door. It depends on the type of travel you are undertaking (budget-conscious, family etc.,), but this hotel isn't worth the value for money, especially the weekend rates. The staff were very rude and for a hotel that seems to accommodate so many guests at a time, including families and children, may be worth trying to be a bit more friendly. I can't stress this enough: the walls are paper thin so you hear all the chatters, noises and sounds (and everyone else will hear you too). The lighting is extremely dim and there are no windows. While we opted for the "elegant double room", it was not spacious at all (though I am sure this is the case with most hotels in Taipei).

- Luiz (1/5): Dont ever stay here if you are considering an early checkin, a late checkout or if the breakfast is important to you - The location is supposedly good, but honestly you dont need to stay in Ximending The staff, terrible. I arrived 7am, asked politely for an early checkin cause my wife was very tired. I even wanted to pay, but they hold us until 3pm sharp, and not only us. Guess what? Big line at 3pm Breakfast was also terrible. Ive been to Asia over 10 times, this was the worst hotel breakfast I have ever had. Bad western choices, bad asian choices. Just awful. Dont ever stay here if you are considering an early checkin, a late checkout or if the breakfast is important to you

The breakfast was very tasty and felt quite unique compared to typical hotel offerings, which made the experience more memorable. I also really appreciated the distinctive interior design — it gave the hotel a special character. At times the staff seemed somewhat overwhelmed by the number of guests, and it felt like having more team members on duty could help ease the pressure and improve the overall experience. The biggest issue for me was the lack of proper windows or the possibility to open them. We stayed in two different rooms: in one, the window was facing outside, but it was covered and could not be opened to let in any fresh air. The absence of natural daylight made the space feel cramped and slightly disorienting. In the other room, there were window-like structures only.

Das zugewiesene Zimmer verfügte über keine Fenster, und die Temperaturregelung der Klimaanlage war nicht funktionsfähig, was häufig zu einer zu niedrigen Raumtemperatur führte. Des Weiteren wurden erhebliche Mängel in der Sauberkeit und Instandhaltung festgestellt, darunter zahlreiche Flecken an den Wänden und in der Duschkabine sowie teilweise abgelöste Wandverkleidungen. Die Schalldämmung des Zimmers war unzureichend, wodurch Trittschall und Gespräche aus dem Flur deutlich wahrnehmbar waren.

- Capt65 (2/5): You’ve been warned! - We booked three nights here at the recommendation of a travel couple we follow on YouTube. Went on blind faith, so shame on me. We also booked this 7 months in advance. We arrived at 11pm (23:00) due to flight timing. Check in was fine until he handed us the keys and said you will be in the basement. What person anywhere would want to be in the basement. My wife was very nervous about this, I felt let’s just give it a try. We found the room and opened the door and were shocked. It was so small we both couldn’t have our suitcases open at the same time. We decided to sleep on it and make a decision in the morning. The room was very cold so I turned up the A/C to get it warmer. We went to bed, which only had a light bed spread. My feet hung off the end of the bed and I am only 5’9”. By 2am, we were both freezing to death as the temperature in the room continued to drop. I tried to call the front desk and it would ring twice and hang up on you. I got dressed and went up to the front desk and complained about freezing. Had to interrupt him watching videos. I said we’re freezing and asked how do I turn on the heat. He said our building doesn’t have heat. How is this even legal? He offered more blankets which I accepted. Back in the room there was a terrible humming noise coming from the ceiling and wall behind the head of the bed. It was coming from a refrigeration system above and would get very loud at times. There was also this random banging noise. By this time and after only about one hour of sleep, I began searching for a new hotel, reserving one at 3am. We tried to sleep again but could not. By 6am, someone was dragging chairs around above our room. Apparently we were below what is their breakfast restaurant. We got up and got dressed. Took our stuff and went to check out. The guy (different person than checked us in) couldn’t find our paperwork. Completely disorganized office. We requested a full credit given no sleep and only being there 7 hours. He refused and charged us the most expensive rate for that night. Other things about this room. The walls in the bathroom had large cracks. The sink had a flexible drain trap which isn’t code compliant. Both are shown in the pictures. Comments of ours: How can a hotel operate with no heat in the rooms? Especially a basement room. Our room felt like a fire trap. If a fire broke out we were screwed. We have never experienced basement rooms, let alone a room that small. Everything had that musty basement smell. PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE

- James (8/5): - Good sized room but bit prisonlike with no windows. Didn't see windows in other rooms in my corridor rooms either. I always order a double bed and needed it here. Too small for average European. I had to lay diagonally. Rest of the room ok. But no windows.

- Valein (7/5): Overall, value for money. Clean and accessible - Basic hotel, clean and value for money. Booked the no window (basement room), serves the purpose after a day roaming around taipei Industrial look, many lighta but still feels a bit dim. Toilet will be great if upgraded with bidet.
