Guest Reviews
- madalynj2026 (2/5): DO NOT RECOMMEND - I had a very uncomfortable and concerning experience during my stay. Late at night, I received a phone call in my room from someone at the front desk who asked inappropriate and unprofessional questions, which made me feel unsafe.
The next morning, I reported the incident to the manager, but my concerns were dismissed. When she contacted the employee involved, he denied everything. However, I have video evidence from that night showing the behavior I experienced.
Additionally, I was initially issued a refund, but the charge was reversed just two days later without explanation. Since then, I have been unable to resolve the issue or receive my refund back.
Overall, this experience was extremely disappointing due to both the inappropriate conduct and the lack of accountability. I would not recommend staying here based on how this situation was handled.
- Scott (4/5): - The young man that check me in made me feel I was interrupting from doing something more important. Breakfast was poor, hot tub wasn't working and the carpeting in the room was in terrible shape.
- Susan (8/5): - Doing some renovations/ upgrades. Rooms/ facility immaculate. Just wish that the desk attendant spoke English! He was very helpful , cordial, etc. but we had a lot of trouble understanding what he was saying.
- jonieb812 (2/5): Horrible - One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Nasty inside and out and smelled of urine, both human and animal. Scary surroundings behind hotel. Needs to be demolished. Pictures on web sight are not what you get.
- Ronda (8/5): - The room was large and clean. It was hard to find out room at first but ok after that. Parking lot has several huge holes in it causing bottom of car to scrape but otherwise very nice place and people.
- Eric (8/5): Pleasantly surprised - Pleasantly surprised. This I expensive hotel was one of the better ones have stayed at. Staff was attentive, friendly, and courteous. The room was really clean and accommodated me really well. The toilet was loose, the toilet paper was good, the towels were really worn, but clean. The pillows and bedding were comfortable enough. The room was cold when I got in and the air conditioner was working great. I would stay here again and recommend it.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Won’t stay here again. - Breakfast was a joke. Bagels and cereal. Juice and coffee. That was it.
Rooms not clean - you don’t want to go barefoot unless you want your feet filthy. Don’t know when any of the lamps cleaned last.
Air conditioning was not the best. Individual units for each room.
Mold in the rooms. Musty smell.
Towel rack broken in bathroom.
You don’t want a room behind the hotel. Make sure you are in the main building!
Swimming pool had so much chlorine in it, don’t know when they last tested the water to make sure it is safe to swim.
The best thing was the showers.
- judemF5383DO (2/5): - Worst hotel in Waupaca there is legitimately homeless people that live here do not recommended do not enter this crap hotel
- William (6/5): - I seemed to be mostly clean except most of the towels were stained in one way or another. Some thing have been updated while others are terribly dated. As with most things in life you get what you pay for and the rate was good.
- Ian (10/5): Great for the price! - No frills, basic accommodations. The family that runs this franchise is friendly and accessible whenever you need them. Not the most modern hotel and things are worn, but no complainsts for the price. It's clean, comfortable and quiet.
- sarahaE5536EK (2/5): ROACH MOTEL - DO NOT STAY HERE!! There were roaches in our room and when I informed staff as we were leaving they didn’t care, didn’t apologize, and definitely seemed as if they already know. We weren’t offered a refund like any other hotel would have or even to take some cost off the stay. Hot tub isn’t functional. Linens are stained and worn rough. Shower was so gross we opted not to use it even after chlorinated pool. Save yourself and sleep in your car.
- Matthew (8/5): - Room was to hot because thermostat was broke and they took care of it right away.
- Michael (6/5): NO COMMENT - NO COMMENT
- Pj-Yer (2/5): Hotel? Or Homeless Shelter? - Is it a hotel or homeless shelter? The back extension is being used as homeless shelters, but with no supervision, not monitored for drug use. It was scary looking. The front hotel was okay, fairly clean and our room looked out to the pool area. The sheets and towels were stained and worn- they were washed, but need replacement. We got up early, skipped the shower and bugged out. Had there been anywhere else available we'd have stayed elsewhere.
- Dianne (2/5): - Would be nice if pool was listed as closed after certain date and that the hotel was under construction our check in gal thought our room was paid very confusing check in
- Debra (6/5): - Nice for the price.
- Debbra (6/5): Nice place to stay to save money on a room - The hotel was older. No elevator. We were on second floor where the room numbers were on the 100s and turn a corner and the room numbers were in 400s. Our room had no outside windows and an air conditioning unit in a wall w/o windows. Strong smell of chlorine throughout hotel due to pool in the middle of hotel and 0 windows. That being said, the beds were comfortable and it was a nice place to stay for a very cheap price.
- Gerald (8/5): - The property was nice. I thought someone could have picked up the broken part of the sign laying in the lawn. It must have been there a while as the grass was groing up around it. Also, the bleach smell from the pool was very strong. As a pool owner I know that you have to shock the pool and we figured it was just shocked. No big deal.
We did enjoy the quiet of the facility and the staff were great.
- Dona (8/5): - The floors are not mopped on a regular basis. They will do it, if you request it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean and convenient
- William (10/5): - Great!
- Dered (8/5): - Staff was very friendly and helpful continental breakfast was very minimal didn't even have tea bags breakfast consisted of bagels and two types of fry cereal. Coffee was disgusting! Price is decent enough that it's hard to complain you need a bed to sleep it's comfortable bed and pillows
- Kevin (8/5): - Last minute, but it was good. Will do it again.
- Anja (10/5): - Nice property and great staff!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good for the price
- Seth (8/5): - Good for the price
- Rose (10/5): - It was wonderful clean friendly coffee all the time will be back
- Linda (6/5): - The price was right. The pool was nice. The room was comfortable, but not fancy and no outside window. The breakfast was minimal. The hot tub was out of order.
- Melanie (2/5): - DO NOT STAY HERE THIS PLACE SHOULD BE CONDEMNED..THERE WERE FECES ON THE TOILET AND WALLS AND VISIBLE BUGS ON THE CARPET.
- Max (4/5): - The critical parts of the room were clean enough- bed sheets, towels, sink, shower. The facility is old and run down and it shows. Our room was on the indoor pool courtyard. No window facing out. Expected the room to smell like an ashtray. It didn’t. It smelled like the pool- chlorine. Overnight desk guy was nice. But won’t be back.
- Chittur (8/5): - Property was neat, but had an issue with the access to the upper floor
- Deron (10/5): - Clean, friendly staff, comfortable rooms
- Allen (4/5): - for what we paid it was not worth it. The breakfast well there wasn't a continental available. The rooms needed to be upgraded to match the price.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Econo lodge Waupaca - Don’t bother staying here!
Aircon was broken, shower pathetic!
Breakfast pretty much none existent
On a plus side friendly reception staff and ok pool area, but in doors
- Jacquelynn (10/5): - Like everything about this place. The owner and family do a great job at keeping everything clean. All very helpful. Only wish there was a better breakfast.
- Tracy (4/5): - It was dirty and had cockroachs
- Donna J (8/5): - No elevator so you walk up unsafe stairs with all your luggage. Staff was very nice. Large pool.
- Eric (6/5): - Convenient
- Marilyn (10/5): - Needed an inexpensive place for a one night stay in Waupaca and this fit the bill. I thought it was great that they offered breakfast, but I wouldn’t say what they offered was really breakfast. Juice coffee, two bagels and cereal to me is not a breakfast.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Extremely unclean - DO NOT stay here! The room carpeting, drapes, chairs and bathroom was gross. Stains all over, holes in the carpet and cracked tiles in the bathroom. There were socks and garbage under the bed. I was disgusted and will be requesting some compensation
- Lorna (2/5): - We checked in and checked out after seeing our room. The property was unkept, dirty room, stained sheets, the couch was so stained , we were afraid to sit down on it, bathroom door was so swollen you couldn’t shut it.
We want a refund!!
- Rhonda (2/5): - There was no iron or board. No wifi, one channel tv,curtain doest work. I used my pins to close the curtains.
- Cindy (4/5): - It was not very clean!
- Colleen (8/5): May 2024 - The property could be updated.
But in saying that, the staff were very nice, the room was comfortable but needed to be swept. It might not be important to others, but to me it is the comfortable pillows, and they were comfortable and so were the beds. The pool was very nice and quiet.
I would stay again, and the price was right.
- Diana (6/5): - It's an Econolodge..not high end, but fine for the money.
- Delander (4/5): - Nothing
- Candace (6/5): - Cheap, clean. TV did not work. Room needs updating. Old, tattered stained furniture. Breakfast not ready at 6:30 or 6:45. Room was large.
- Marcia (4/5): - Easy to locate when getting off highway. The pool was great indoors.
The TV picture was dark unable to see and Toilet was not secure to the floor it moved side to side in use. The first night requesed repairs for both items didn't happen clerk wouldn't give any amount off the room during the 2 day stay for the inconvenience.
- Kelly (4/5): - They said they had a hot tub but didnt
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The tvs didnt work at all. They didnt know when they would be fixed. The hot tub was broken it looked like for a long time.
- Ann Mary (6/5): Fair price for a clean room. - It was just right for what we needed at the time- a place to sleep and get ready while visiting an ill relative in town. The room was clean- nothing fancy. It appeared that the pool was open, however, we didn't utilize it. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, we were satisfied with the accommodations because it fulfilled our need for something inexpensive yet safe and clean. We would stay there again if we return to Waupaca.
- Elizabeth (4/5): disapointment - They advertise a hot tub and pool. The pool is dirty and the hot tub is closed. The carpeting in rooms was soiled as well as furniture .
The free breakfast was a choice of 2 cereals , coffee and juice.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just OK! - Rooms were clean enough. The "breakfast" was laughable. Overall the place is dated and could use some updating. The hottub was not functioning. Staff were courteous and helpful.
- GEORGE (2/5): - A cheap night stay. Stained carpet, blankets and walls. Will not return.
- norbert (10/5): - Large room, poolside. Nice
- Joshua (2/5): - The beds are extremely uncomfortable, our room number 123 the floor is caving in. Trying to go to sleep and very noisy people at the pool table and the staff said nothing. Definitely won’t return.
- Ron (6/5): - WiFi was spotty and slow - that was my only issue.
Otherwise, it was a normal budget hotel with friendly staff and easy access right off the highway.
- Lynn (2/5): - Filthy walls and floors. Looked like blood and grease spatters on wall. Fridge did not work. People apparently LIVE there. Saw a couple of people in the premises walking around high.
- Carol (10/5): Great place for the price - Stayed inside by the pool, clean safe and comfortable. Staff was very proficient, great place for the price.
- Calvin (6/5): - I didn't like the thermostat being locked & needed to have a staff member come in to change it.
- Patrick (4/5): - I was afraid to go barefoot in the room. The rug was filthy. Couch should have been replaced years ago. Not an inviting appearance.
- terry (6/5): - No internet cost me money and time 😢
- Jeffrey (6/5): - Whirlpool not working. Temperature of room not controllable. Desk clerk care more about playing on his phone, than taking care of us.
- MARY (8/5): - The room smelled of stale smoke.
- L171RDlarryf (2/5): Sleeping in the car would have been better - It is a dump. Floors were dirty, bed was like a rock, stained chair, legs on desk were broken and just hanging there. The breakfast was a joke and looked old. The tub/shower was the nastiest thing we have seen in a motel. Was so dirty we could not use it. Don't be fooled by the pics on their web page they have to be 20 years old we should have been paid to stay here
- Joel (6/5): - Been coming here for 30 yrs, and its slowly declined the entire time.
The units on the backside of the property are filled with perma-renters.
I'll have to stay elsewhere in the future unfortunately.
Thanks
- Douglas (4/5): - Carpet was very dirty and needed replacing. Electrical outlets worn out. Parking lot lighting is poor and lot needs resurfacing. Two outside doors did not lock overnight. Staff not friendly.
- Randy (6/5): - Was once again disappointed that there hot was down. 3rd time staying here that was not working. A big reason why i booked here so i could enjoy sitting in hot tub after my 12 hr shifts at the job.
Everything else was pretty good. Found out 1 side of bed was more comfortable then the other.
- Tonja (6/5): - Make sure that if you get a good rate on Expedia that you pay before you get there. They charged us a different rate than what the Expedia total was and wouldn't adjust it accordingly.
Also, there are no local channels to watch on their tv.
- Jolene (4/5): Room Review - The TV did not work well. Very bad picture and did not work at all the next morning. Carpet very dirty. No hair dryer. Otherwise the rest was fine.
- Joni (10/5): - Nice rooms..
- Paul (4/5): - Breakfast was poor in choices. Key to room would not work on 3 of our 5 nights. Pool closed one day for pump issue. Basically this is a hotel that literally ( you get what you pay for).
- Janet (8/5): - We were upgraded to poolside room. It was really quiet & the room was clean. The patio door was dirty, the blinds in office were dirty, the lights outside facing the sign were off so at night hard to find hotel, hot tub was not working.
- Connie (4/5): - It was easy to find and the staff was good. The only thing that was bad is that the air conditioning could not be regulated by us and it was very cold in there. Probably will not stay again.
Connie
- Richard (2/5): - The room smelled like a smoker had been there in the past or some odd-smelling cleaning solution was used for cleaning. The queen-sized beds promised were really double or standard-sized beds. The mattresses were very soft and seemed cheap and old. The room seemed dated for the premium price that was charged for it. I know there's not a lot of competition in Waupaca, WI for motel rooms, but this room was definitely not worth the price I paid. We won't be staying here again. This motel didn't live up to the Econolodge brand name!
- MARK (10/5): - Nice room
- Robin (2/5): - Horrible experience! Stains all over the rug and chairs. I didn’t even want to sit in the chairs. Blood on the sheets. Will NEVER stay at an Econolodge again!!
- Bobbi (2/5): - Do not stay here! Felt like the people doing drugs in area were checking out our vehicle on what to steal while parking. Whole area reeked of marijuana. Room was DIRTY. Bed linens disgusting. My son said he would rather sleep in truck at truck stop. I was surprised staff gave us money back, because we did not stay after paying, seeing the room, and deciding to stay somewhere else.
- Bill (6/5): - Needs an update and maintenance
- Cesar (2/5): - The bathrooms were unsafe to take a shower
- Jedidiah (4/5): - Solid 4/10 no wiggle room.
First, the best part about this place is the hard working son behind the desk. He is friendly and a good translator. Also, cool pool table.
Next, every inch of this place needs to be scrubbed and re-scrubbed until it’s natural displeasing odor is gone for good. People staying in a new place want it to be clean and smelling good. The bedding needs to be replaced, the mattresses need to be updated, and the tile in the bathroom needs to be whitened.
Lastly, I am CERTAIN, there are drug lords living at this property, specifically the upstairs of the 200-block rooms. I was going to inform the police, but I needed more evidence and didn’t have the appropriate amount of time. Seize them!
Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again unless it has a massive update that improves the quality of the place.
Thank you.
- Donna (4/5): - Limited supplies in the room. Had to ask the staff for everything we needed. Staff did not readily comprehend English. Room smelled like chlorine from the pool.
- Deanna (10/5): - Convenient
- William (8/5): - Property was dated which we expected. Rooms were clean, pool was clean, and hot showers were all a plus.
- Roberta (4/5): - the property was unkept - outside was not maintained well with weeds growing around the building, filthy windows, etc. The atmosphere did not feel inviting. The room was very dated.
- Alice L (2/5): - We stayed at the Econo Lodge in Waupaca WI for 2 nites, June 16 and 17. The Expedia itinerary number is 72572912022843. Expedia sent a confirmation stating that the price would be $108 per night. When we went to check in, the hotel informed us that the total was 291.83, or about 145.92 per night!!! They wouldn't give us the Expedia price, even tho we showed them our itinerary.
We've booked quite a few times with Expedia in the past and never had that problem before. But the hotel clerk wouldn't budge. He said, "That's what it is!" So we had to pay it. We feel that the hotel owes us a refund for the difference in price.
- Ronald (4/5): - Well, the good news was the room was clean and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The pictures of the property used on the web site must have been taken 15 years ago. the grounds and "landscape" look like they have been totally neglected. The "continental breakfast" consisted of two types of cereal, bagels, coffee, and juice. The amenities in the room were sparse. about a third of the TV channels listed on the coffee stained program guide were not available. Now if this would have been a 60/70 dollar a night room I would be a little more forgiving but at over 120.00 not so much.
- William (6/5): - This property was fine for a single night sleep while traveling. Bed was comfortable but the bathroom needs updating. Tub/shower stained. Toilet seat missing anchor bolt. No wash/face cloth.
- Julie (8/5): - Very nice room
- BRIAN (10/5): - Hot tub not working, poor continental breakfast , would not stay here again, would not recommend this place to anyone
- Chris (10/5): - Ok
- Scott (10/5): - I liked how the size of the room, it's ease of access, and I really liked the little balcony that overlooked the pool. Staff was very accommodating.
- Debbie (8/5): - Clean, great location, big rooms, nice pool.
- Michel (8/5): Clean hotel with great price. - Very clean, nice staff. Breakfast was gone before 9:30 which was the only negative. Great price for a older hotel but comfortable.
- Amy (2/5): Out of Town Hockey Trip - Our room was too hot. Other rooms were frigid. No hot water in the shower. Some rooms room wreaked of cigarettes. I guess if you are a loyalty member, you CAN smoke in the rooms. The outside rooms were snowed in. Sidewalks were not shoveled or cleared. Side doors were were not cleared of snow. Some doors were not operable, so they were blocked. The inoperable doors and uncleared sidewalks and paths were major fire hazards.
- Randy (8/5): - Room was pretty nice, bed very comfortable, but hot tub (main reason i booked here) was out of order along with pool.
- Edward (4/5): - This property was not all that was promised in the advertisement. No pool, no hot tub, very limited breakfast and no working ice machine. Sad!
- Jim (10/5): - The property is undergoing major exterior updating so some amenities were not available i.e. the pool.
If that's important to you, check before booking.
Otherwise a pleasant & convenient stay.
- Patrick (2/5): Terrible Place! - We did not even spend the night after we saw the complete mess this motel is. The pool and hot tub are not only not functional, but they were also filled with what appeared to be scrap lumber and possible garbage.
The other 'guests' all appeared to be of questionable character. We did not feel safe staying there and told the manager we were leaving.
- John (4/5): A definite Nightmare! - It was a eye opener, a work in progress The room stinker, The pool was empty and had a lot of low life living in back courtyard! They were partying all night and fighting! We locked ourselves on the room! And left very early in the morning
