Guest Reviews
- Charlotte (10/5): - Amazing little guest house. Would definitely stay again.
- Daniel (8/5): - The room was OK, basic but adequate.
Breakfast wasn't too great to be honest.
Bar closes very early in the evening.
Great location though, and the pizzas in the restaurant are very good.
- Helen (4/5): - Very small room, bathroom not good, bath with hand held shower attachment. Stayed 2 nights but room was not cleaned or bed made, wet towells.
- Rosalind (8/5): A - A very comfortable bed and clean room. Excellent pizzas made by Sam, well worth trying.
- Claire (4/5): Not worth it - Cthe web site looks fabulous, but after check in it was a bit down hill form there, although i will say we didnt complain as there was no one but a young lad to complain to and its want his fault.
bedroom was on the ground floor and at first it all seamed ok standard room a little small but ok for one night. then as we looked around several things we picked up on.
1 very sticky dressing table
2 only one tea bag on tea tray
3 very dirty set of second pillow ( i would of thrown them out)
4 light on bath room mirror always on could not find how to turn it off
4 on conditioner in the bath room and a bottle of had wash no shampoo or body wash ( my husband did go and ask about this and they said they would put some in the room , but that never happened )
5 not really there fault but room very noisy with people walking passed up until 12.30 and then at 4.30am the seagulls we constantly making lots of noise
you were asked what you would like for breakfast, but this didn't seam to be passed on the the staff in the morning so what was the point, also a little confusing with the tea and coffee and coffee you help your self to and tea you hope some one will get you .
all in all it was really not worth the money. as it was 100 for the night and i have stayed in cleaner rooms for under 50
so no i will not be retuning even though it is perfectly placed in Chepstow for all events
- Howard (2/5): Not Recommended - Seriously over priced for what you get. Not friendly or welcoming at all. Simply not a good experience.
- A (4/5): - Room was lovely. Bring your own sugar, coffee and milk as you are only provided enough for 1 cup each. Asked staff for sachets etc to be told none available. More of a b and b than a boutique hotel. Clean though. No parking so make sure you pay your extra parking costs. Not worth £90.
- Pamela (10/5): Convenient location and ideal for a nights stay - Lovely warm welcome from the staff and very well looked after the pizzas there are amazing and freshly made. The room was comfortable warm and ideal for an over night stay and just minutes from the castle as well the breakfast was made fresh and was cooked very well
- Raymond (10/5): - Nice and friendly
- Anne (8/5): - Room was a bit tired but staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for you
- Paul (6/5): Very cold room - Service and staff were great. Room was freezing and no shower.
- Gillian Elloway (8/5): - The staff are amazing: hardworking, kind, cheerful, helpful, empathetic and nothing is too much trouble for them.
The food is excellent. The pizzas have a well deserved reputation.
The building is a little tired. The bedroom needed some basic maintenance. £g. the window could not be left open as the part to fit the long arm onto was missing and so the window could have easily swung in the wind and broken. The cupboard next to the bed had a door which fell apart and simply needed some contact adhesive to fix. The cleanliness of the loos by the restaurants was not regularly checked and the loo brush was missing. The san bin needed emptying.
There are not enough staff. The current staff were amazingly hardworking but could not possibly be expected to cover 12 rooms, serve, clean, take bookings, answer the phone, deal with some demanding guests (race course attendees etc}. Some of the staff looked overtired and in need of a holiday or a few days off at least.
In terms of decor. A few pictures in the rooms or corridors would easily enhance. The iris flowers are pretty and the little flower arrangement in the room were sweet. There was no range of tea bags or biscuits in the bedroom. Staff were quick to supply decaff teabags and real milk on request.
Overall a very relaxing stay. The bed was comfy, the room was quiet and the staff especially Charlotte, Sarah and Matteo delightful.
The eco lighting system is great but the lights turn off too quickly and left me in darkness.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Sally - It was a pleasant stay, in a very good location. They provide a hairdryer but you have to ask for it. No hand towels provided and the breakfast was not as stated as a full English breakfast. The staff were very attentive and friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely staff and a great breakfast
- Scott (4/5): Cheesy feet smell in room - So it all started very well, walked into the hotel and all looked very nice but then got to the room. There was a real bad cheesy feet smell in the room and the toilet didn’t seem fixed to the floor, the whole toilet literally wobbled. I spoke to a nice lady but nothing could be done because they were fully booked so we just had to accept it. The mattress was springy and uncomfortable. I was really hoping to speak to someone when we checked out but nobody around and he cook told me to leave the key on the table. Not a great experience at all which is a shame because The pizza looked amazing and we planned to take a couple home for the kids but TBH we left straight after breakfast. All the staff we spoke to were very pleasant so kind of feel sorry for them writing a review like this as the issues were not there fault.
- Mrs Maria (8/5): Nice hotel - Nice hotel, good breakfast, close to town
- Verified traveler (8/5): - They serve up lovely pizzas.
The breakfast was just basic , was not offered cereals or orange juice.
The hotel do not have their own carpark,. So had to park in the local carpark nearby and had get up early to pay for two hours .
- s (8/5): Good stay - More than adequate for the money, would go back. Pizzas would be recommendation
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I didn’t like the check in procedure.
- Johanne (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely stay and the staff are friendly. Place is clean and tidy. Walking distance for all of amenities and public transport.
Delicious food and can accommodate people with intolerance as I am a coeliac
- Hazel (4/5): - The rooms were clean and tidy. Unfortunately that is the only positive. There was no hand towel in the bathroom. The coffee cup was broken and I couldn’t get a replacement. Tea & coffee supplied was minimal & again when asked for a couple more this wasn’t possible. We had to be up early, before usual breakfast time and asked if possible to have a small continental breakfast made up. Answer was no, we also requested a late check out and again was refused. So overall turned out to be a very expensive overnight stay and caused us a lot of issues which spoilt our reason for being there.
- Lewy (10/5): - Excellent.. very friendly and welcoming.. definitely be visiting again
- Chris (2/5): - The Staff Decided to have a party until 3AM. I asked multiple times for them to be quite but the contued until the early hours. Will not be staying again and wouldnt recomend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Pleasant good location good amenities river wye and river seVern
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Bags of builders rubbish along the front wall of the building. Kept waiting outside in the cold for check in, never met the owner during our stay, no hot water or heating in the morning and one of the bedside lamps didn’t work.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a really warm welcome and a cosy nights sleep
- Andrew (8/5): - Great location, clean bathroom and comfortable bed but shower head holder was broken and wouldn’t hold the head in position but apart from that it was fine and I would definitely be staying again.
- Gordon (10/5): - Very good value for money flitted all our needs.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Liked it's location.
Didn't like overlooking the pizzeria, noisy till it closed and was cleaned about 22.00. Smart TV that wouldn't connect to the internet. Carpet could do with cleaning. NO toiletries except hand soap, even tho they are CLEARLY shown in the hotel photos. No hand towels. It got quite cool but no heating came on. Seemed disorganised.
- Vicky (6/5): - Checked in and was asked to pay again. Even though we paid at booking. Was made out to feel like we was lying even though i pulled up booking email.
During our stay we was bitten multiple times. Feeling something physically bite while in bed. We are both covered in bites.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Misleading photo. It's the rear and not the front.
No parking and "double yellow" car drop-off point.
Room needed airing. No onfo from "staff", consequently i missed breakfast at 9am!
Not woth the money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect place to sleep and eat - The guest house is a nice enough place to stay although some of the maintenance in our room needed a bit of attention - a loose socket on the wall and a leak under the shower tray in the bathroom. On the first morning the kettle did not work in our room which was a problem as I was going out before breakfast (which I knew in advance) so couldn’t have coffee or make up the instant oats that I’d brought with me. I understand it was resolved just after I left that morning though and the staff were polite and apologetic to my husband when he mentioned it at breakfast time.
I got charged twice through the app and by the hotel but again this is being resolved.
The restaurant was good for breakfast and was a lovely award winning pizzeria in the evenings which was clearly popular and closed early enough that the customers in the garden area didn’t disturb us.
A chair in the room would have made it a bit more comfortable but I appreciate that it wasn’t a large room.
Not somewhere to stay, based on our room, if you want to spend a reasonable amount of time in the room but I booked it primarily for proximity to the National Diving Centre. For that it was perfect, except for the lack of on site parking but the public car park is just across the road and free overnight from around 5pm.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great location, and adequate rooms, however staff could definitely be friendlier.
- Duncan (10/5): Stayed here before, will stay here again - Staying in Chepstow with business. Great guest house, very accommodating people as always. Thank you
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Location was great and this is our second stay at the same hotel however after this time we will not be going back. We turned up and after ringing the reception bell for 30 minutes we had to walk into the staff area to get someone to check us in and then service was really poor as we were given a key and just told you were in room 3 but not shown to the room. We then went down for breakfast in the morning (advertised between 8 and 9.30) at 8.40 and it had been cleared away as they said “they thought everyone had been down” and then proceeded to ask us which room we were in????
We then made the unfortunate mistake of leaving our jackets in the room on check out which I appreciate is not ideal however it happens and when I called and emailed I was told they were not there, however they never left the room as the weather was really hot. As a consequence my fiancé has had a Barbour jacket stolen and I’ve had a leather jacket that was the last gift I ever got from my grandma before she passed away nicked. I can’t believe that people can sleep knowing they stole peoples things.
Needless to say I will. It recommend them and really hope they have a change of conscious and rectify the jackets as they are a small team so there is only a limited amount people that would have cleaned the room and if they didn’t then it doesn’t bode well for how they clean the rooms if they missed two jackets for the next guests to steal.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - For the odd night it was very good. Breakfast was lovely but strange that no cereal or marmalade was offered. Would be happy to use again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Pizzas make this place special. Room clean and very comfortable bed. Quiet night since on side street. Friendly welcome. Free overnight parking available at end of street.
- Harry (8/5): All good. - All ok all good would recommend.oh & b4 you depart a lovely breakfast.
- Anthony A. (2/5): Xxxxx - Room was freezing no heat
No Internet in room.
Otherwise fine!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Charming cottage close to Chepstow Castle. Centrally located near pubs and shops.
- Dan (10/5): - The staff here were really lovely and accommodating, the location was fantastic and the room was comfortable and exactly what we needed. I couldn't recommend the place highly enough.
- Joeline (6/5): - The room we were given was nothing like the one in the picture that we thought we had booked which was disappointing, cos it was really small and the bed was really soggy.
- Bobby (4/5): Rude staff, needs some work! - Not a particularly warm welcome. When we checked in we were rushed to our room and handed a key by a pretty stressed out member of staff.
The room was comfortable, but there was paint missing off the walls and it looked in need of some TLC. Our room was also on the ground floor which meant having to keep the curtains closed so people eating couldn't see straight into our room.
I also encountered a rude member of staff when I went for breakfast. I made a simple request to eat breakfast in our room, my request was accommodated but the woman who was cooking the breakfast was extremely abrupt about it. I can understand if they have a policy about no food in the room, a simple "no unfortunately we do not allow that" would have sufficed, there was absolutely no element of customer service exhibited. It was so embarrassing other guests were making comments on the behaviour. However, it tasted okay.
Would not stay here again.
- Jane (10/5): Perfect guest house - Really enjoyed our night here. As it was Monday the pizza place was closed...we ended up eating in the fish and chip shop, and had a superb meal. We then had an excellent breakfast which set us up for the day. It was freshly cooked for us. There was also a good selection of cereals, fruit and yogurt, besides a toast machine.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Would recommend but not in room 1 - Good location, good breakfast.
Didn't like room 1, window too close to the road, not a lot of privacy.
Should reduce the rate for that room.
- Rob (8/5): Chepstow rocks - Clean and comfortable guest house in the heart of Chepstow with pleasant and helpful staff. I was there to see Monsters of Roc & Alabama 3 at Chepstow Castle with friends. Easy walk from the Castle and town centre. The breakfast was good. Sadly I didn't have time to sample the Stonerock award winning pizza they serve of an evening, maybe next time.
- Gregor (6/5): Average bed and breakfast right in the middle of t - B+B was average. Excellent location. Rooms were good enough to sleep in and bed was comfy.
- jerzy65 (4/5): disappointed - we arrived at the hotel and was told we had to pay for the hotel but it was already on my credit card statement , went to our room to be greeted by people sitting literally outside the window eating their dinner, so had to close the curtains/window straight away for some privacy. so I would not recommend room 2 of this b&b
the room could do with a refurb but the bed was comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overnight for family party - Clean and spacious room, towels rather hard and pillow to large for my comfort. Would be happy to stay agai. We would have liked a breakfast menu in the tables.
- RICKIE (8/5): WEEKEND BREAK - ROOM NICE AND CLEAN,FOOD VERY GOOD,SHOWER ROOM A LITTLE SMALL BUT SHOWER ITSELF WAS VERY GOOD,COULD DO WITH A FAN IN ROOMS AS NO AIR CONDITIONING,AS WE STAYED IN HOT WEATHER CONDITIONS, HAD TO LEAVE WINDOWS OPEN AND A BIT NOISY WITH TRAFFIC GOING BY, STAFF VERY FRIENDLY.
