Guest Reviews
- Kelsey (9/5): -
- ESENGI (10/5): Exceptional. Would definitely return for another stay - Clean and quiet Nothing to dislike. Owners were very understanding and accommodating
- Hendrikus (7/5): It's cheap, which should manage your expectations. At least you get a warm bed and a shower. - Location was fine, walking distance from shops. Area itself was a bit remote for my European standards, but that is more of a general issue in North America. Staff was very friendly. The bed was nice and the shower does its job. Cheap place to stay for a few nights, compared to the rest of Vancouver. Room smelled dank when I came in, but that cleared itself out after opening the window for a while. The kitchen, which doubled as a common area had too little basic things, like plates and cutlery.
- Jason (10/5): A short walk to the sky train means it’s a quick journey around Vancouver to many different areas - En-suite was great, bed comfortable and very clean
- Bez (1/5): Staff did not let me check in because of my appearance/race. - House looks new and clean The place looks nice, but owners are very judgmental and disrespectful.
- Ivan (3/5): -
- Nikolas (8/5): - The room, bathroom and communal kitchen area were very clean and tidy. The hosts were able to accommodate me for parking which was very kind and were very responsive when contacting them. There were other guests staying there and everyone was respectful and kind. I'd return if I'm in the area.
- K.Islam (10/5): -
- James (10/5): -
- Arpan (10/5): -
- Ravi (6/5): - Respectfully, the parking situation was less than ideal due to disorganization and the rules were obscure. Friendly, however poorly managed.
- Niloofar (8/5): - Quiet close to my old neighborhood where I used to live
- Tim (8/5): -
- Kate_BY (10/5): - All apartments are the same, but what makes a difference is people. I stayed at this property for almost 2 weeks and it felt like home! Very nice hosts, made my stay as comfortable as possible. It's also a very convenient location - located on a quiet street but in a walking distance from the subway and large shopping mall. Highly recommend!
- liying (9/5): Clean room and comfortable bed - The room and kitchen are super clean. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. The host is friendly and helpful. I got hurt during my trip. She told me where is the best place to walk and lent me a yoga mat as well. I would stay here again if I visit Vancouver again! None
- Cushenbery (10/5): - Clean and very quiet. I would highly recommend it. N/A
- Ali (1/5): I gave my overall view in above - Was quiet & clean
I checked in at 10pm and all next 3 days left every morning around 7am & back around 11pm .
Just sleep there for a few hours every night .
Price was reasonable eventhogh it was a basement . The Owner :
not speaking good English , not friendly attitude at the checking time ,
No hangers at all in the clost which they left a few "on the ground"🙄 behind the door after gave them a notice .
Dustbin in the room was not clean properly & had some trash in it , found no hair dryer in the washroom which after notified them said "check in the Cabinet" finally found it but "not working at all 🤔", No plug arrangements for my hybrid car to be charged .
- Hatem (1/5): Frustrated - There is no laundry
Is not allowed to prepare food
- Jacob (2/5): Never again - Where do I even begin? The home owners weren't very nice at all, Rules were very unclear, And checking out was not explained at all. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone for a vacation im Vancouver. Highly recommend just giving up a few more dollars just to get a hotel!
- Ajmal (8/5): -
- Youngim (10/5): - Cozy, comfy, beautiful, and quiet. Per
- Gabriel (10/5): - Nice hosts, helpful, convenient.
- Gabriel (10/5): - Very nice hosts. Rooms are clean.
- Maryelle (10/5): - The place was clean, comfortable, and close to shops and transport links.
- María (10/5): I strongly recommend stay at Austin Guesthouse - I spent 9 nights in the house, the couple that run it makes me feel like home. They were really nice with me, they answer all my doubts.
I had the room with private bathroom. it was really confortable and clean.
Definitely I would stay again on the house.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely clean home
- MARTIN N (10/5): - The best place I stayed amongst the five different places. The landlord and his wife were extremely friendly and even gave me a couple of bowls of fresh picked blueberries. These were the best blueberries I have ever tasted. The room was spotless, shared cooking area has everything I needed and friendly guests to boot. I had several great conversations with the owners and other guests. There's a coin-op laundry 3 minutes away and Walmart about 7 minutes away. Denny's down the street. It's a beautiful neighborhood to walk around in too. I'm definitely coming back here after my cruise to Alaska.
- Vicki (8/5): - Location is nice and quiet. Sort of far from subway station.
- Irene (9/5): Superb -
- Zachary (10/5): - This is not a hotel, it is a private room, and the price reflects that. Host was accommodating of my late check-in, and I had no issues with my stay. As long as you understand what you are booking, it is a great alternative to a hostel, for not too much more money.
- Verified traveler (4/5): 738 Austin Avenue, Coquitlam, BC, V3K 3N1 Canada - I was not comfortable staying there. The couple who owns the house live there and made things horrible. They will stress you with their rules. Don't touch. Don't wear your shoes. Why did you touch the wall? Why I there water on the floor of the bathroom. Don't switch the light on. Don't have your bath for more than 15 minutes. Why did you bring food into the hotel?
They accused me of chipping off some paint off the wall with my bag - like the size of tip of a pen. I had to pay $60 for that. Accused me of telling lies because I didn't admit their accusations.
I guess they didn't like that they had to put the fridge on for me because I had food to preserve. So they have to make me pay for it.
If you cherish your mental health, do not go there.
- Immanuel (6/5): - Owner was rude
- Alan (8/5): Very good - Very clean and quiet
- Hakjin (4/5): Not A Christian Place - The owner is NOT A Christian? I would not stay there next time. It cost me cad $610 and a lot of headaches !!!~~~
- Francis (10/5): - Owner met us right away.
- Renuka (2/5): - Rude and didn't feel good about them and the property.
- Oluwatoyin (10/5): - Nice quality house and amazing staff
- Mamunur (4/5): - This was a guest house type property and not a hotel. There are a lot of restrictions, e.g., shower needs to be completed in 10/15 mins, guests should be home by 11 pm, shoes must be kept outside the building etc. The Landlord even asked me about my expected schedule during my stay in Vancouver. The house is nice and clean, but this can't be recommended for a vacation stay. I would never stay there again.
- Martin (8/5): - Place is beautiful, quiet and comfortable. Close to food and shops.
Owners seemed a bit concerned I had 5 bags of luggage (traveling home from working on the road for 6 months) and kinda assumed I was a bull in the proverbial china shop because I’m a burly white man. Like…they explained how a shower works? I know as a pro wrestler and carny I look rough, but I dunno. I felt all but pushed out the door when I checked out.
Cest la vie.
- Adrian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tamara (7/5): Good - Comfortable room & bed
Everything was very clean On booking they said that there is no reservation needed for the parking spot. - but actually you have to make a reservation.
- Yevgen (7/5): Good -
- Terence (10/5): Comfy bed - The bed was comfy and the private bathroom was such a treat. Felt like I was home. That I didn't book it longer.
- Moe (5/5): Passable -
- Benjamin (10/5): Exceptional - Close to SkyTrain, newly renovated, nice part of town. Good communication with owner. Great value
- Gwendoline (4/5): Creepy and uncomfortable - Austin Guesthouse was generally clean, but the microwave was so dirty it smelled rotten. The fridge was not cold, was visibly dirty and smelled like mold. There was nothing to dry hands with in the shared bathroom. The shower was in the same room as the microwave and fridge(behind a non locking glass wall) It was very hot, and without air conditioning, there was no relief or sleep. The pictures on Hotels site show many comfortable places to relax, but in reality, I was only given my room with a kitchen chair to sit on. There was a row of child gates between the hosts living room and the entryway where my room was. The host said to keep the cat in the living room? Host were generally pleasant but I felt like they were lurking outside my room and they told me I didn't need to lock my room when I left because they were watching the entry area all the time...were there cameras? There were rules posted all over, even hanging from the light in the entry outside my door...my head hit it when I walked under it, and I'm 5ft 3. Time limit for shower, food prep specifically only that which can go in a microwave. I read I wasn't allowed food in my room but there is also no where to sit and eat outside my room. I didn't see the excessive rules posted on hotels so didn't vacate 11 to 4. I left from 1120 to almost 3 and the host did not get upset. It was an uncomfortable place to stay not due to furniture but due to the hosts excessive requirements/rules and their creepy lurking.
- Kovalevska (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (8/5): - The only thing I did not like was the big walk up the hill every day
Otherwise I will be back again
- Sharon (8/5): Very good -
- Vanessa (6/5): - It was very clean and as described, but the owners stressed that I must be quiet closing doors etc...then proceeded to crash pots and pans in a kitchen below my room at 5am most mornings. Also they wanted me to move my car several times late at night. I understand parking is tight, but this was excessive
- Nina (10/5): Excellent Fantastic Awesome -
- Ghulam Jan Naseer (4/5): - Stay was ok but the host was so controlling and they have steps so many rules.
- David (8/5): Location comforts. - Clean room comfy bed No tv in room. Only one towel.
- Riediger (10/5): Exceptional - Host was very nice and accomodating. The space was clean and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone looking for a simple room in the Austin area.
- Batcha (7/5): Good -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean and quiet, Dining and Transit within walking distance dining options nearby.
- Moori (8/5): It was a good place for short stay - The staff was reasonable and cooperative. N/A
- Jonathan (2/5): - Drunk guest, Yoli East side of property in the middle of the night and break into my door trying to get a fight I called 911 to remove a suicidal lady which been disturbing all night and can’t sleep until 4 AM in the morning

- John (10/5): My October 26-27, 2023 Review - Very relaxing. Host was very accommodating with me, as I informed in advance that I wouldn't be able to arrive until just before midnight. Located on a busy road during most of the daytime, but great location for shopping, restaurants, etc. Beautiful home and room.
- Joshua (10/5): - Very clean and affordable and the owners are very nice!
- Fernando (6/5): - There is always a smell of food and perfume it's not allowed.
- Kevin (8/5): - Great property! Ideal for 1 person. Clean room, decent bed, newer home with great private bathroom. I would definitely stay again.
- Dallas (2/5): Very poor -
- Joshua (10/5): - Very clean and quiet accommodations and very nice couple operating it. Would definitely stay again!
- Heather (7/5): Good - It was quiet, well maintained. Friendly staff Only one towel and 1 face cloth for the entire 2 weeks. Beds do not get changed during entire stay.
- jack (10/5): - lovely property. owners are kind amd accomidating.
- Dennis (10/5): - It's a nice clean quiet place. For temporary 3 days living, it's quite convenient for me. Eating in that area is very convenient, lots of options are available, and also quite easy to get on high way though the house is hidden in a quiet area.
- Larry (5/5): Not bad. - Nobody told me about breakfast. There should be a television in the rooms.

- Maricar (1/5): DO NOT COME HERE! - I WOULD RATE THIS PLACE 0 STARS IF I COULD! We booked this place last week for a good friend of ours to stay at. When calling to book, they lied to us by saying that they live in a separate property, ensuring our guest would have some privacy. However, our friend informed us that they were living in the house the whole time he was there. We would not have cared if they were honest to us! Moreover, the host (the man) is EXTREMELY RUDE, when we dropped off our guest here from the airport, there was no warm welcome or kind words, they just said “only the guest is allowed to come in” and shooed us away. Not only that but our friend that stayed here was very unhappy with the accommodations, and the host’s treatment of him. The bathroom was extremely tiny. And the bedroom was the size of a closet. And they gave him only a single small pillow that was uncomfortable enough for him to buy a new one in the morning for himself. The host (the man I spoke of earlier) was very rude to our friend telling him that there are no common areas for him to relax at in the house or property, and told him he should only stay in his room while staying there! The host said these are “rules,” which is really uncool, because they show online that there are common areas, when there are NONE!!!! I was surprised that there were no bad reviews when we booked, but we were very embarrassed to have brought our friend here when we heard all these terrible things. He was so relieved when we moved him to stay at a hotel on his last night. IF YOU WANT A COMFORTABLE PLACE TO STAY AT AND DEAL WITH HONEST PEOPLE THEN STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! TO THE OWNERS: BE HONEST. AND ALL YOUR SO CALLED HOUSE RULES MAY BE A SIGN THAT YOU DONT BELONG IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY!
- Gencho (10/5): - As a newcomer to Canada this is the perfect place for stay. All other hotels are 2-3 times more expensive. Here you get own room and a shared kitchen with a big fridge where you can make yourself a sandwich or a salad. The shared bathrooms are very clean. Parking is available on spot or in the worst case on the street nearby. The hotel is close to the public transport. I stayed 11 days and I recommend it to everyone.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Scott (5/5): Passable - 5/10
- Simarjeet (10/5): - It was great, felt like i m the only one living in this house , not crowded
- Leonid (5/5): In fact, you pay money only for what would sleep. - The room is clean, toilet and bathroom too. 1) There are too many restrictions, they are pasted on the doors, hanging on the ceiling lamp, and if you are tall, you catch them with your head.
2) You must take off your shoes on outside of house and enter the house in socks, it is also not convenient to put on shoes on outside, especially for older people.
3) There is only one small pillow on the bed, which is not convenient and sometimes problematic for people who cannot sleep with this head position.
4) You can not use the bath, the time for taking a shower is limited to 10-15 minutes.
5) There is no way to watch TV.
- Gary (6/5): Sweet&sour - The room smelt sour the towels were sour the bed and the room were great hosts were friendly parking was limited wasn’t enough for all guests if you plan to vomit in later than others park half block away so you won’t get tow
- Parm (8/5): - This house is located on a busy street but area is so beautiful. Huge park in walking distance.
Couple of things i noticed and wasn't pleasing for me were.
Bedroom felt little damp and i was told that filling up a tub to bath is not allowed, Only shower is allowed.
other than that, owner were polite, i felt safe in the area and in the house. Parking wasnt a problem at all.
- James (8/5): It was a great place to stay close to everything I wanted. - The location was only minutes from the Mall and also the area I was intending to spend the day at. The Guesthouse was very clean and the patrons were friendly. It was an enjoyable stay and I would highly recommend it.
- Scott (10/5): - Thumbs up
- Marie (10/5): Visiting from Vancouver Island (not at all the US), I will come back if needs be in the future. - Friendly welcome, Good orientation within the room or on the rules of the house, Excellent WiFi, Great communication. No view out the window but facing a wall! Could use more comfortable bed pillows.
- Timothy (5/5): Passable - Quiet with comfortable bed. The smell of cat box, dirty bathroom and shower. Lost of use to what was advertised, kitchen and living room area.
- Prince (6/5): Pleasant -
