Guest Reviews
- Mary (8/5): - I enjoyed the excellent location and the rates.
Unfortunately, after many many years in business the one story building is being torn down very very soon and a new multi story building will be erected...possibly as condos..not sure.
- Jessica (10/5): - Always love staying here! Best location and always clean!
- Bilal (2/5): - Property outlived its life expectancy with no investment in improving and maintaining rooms and bathrooms. The best feature is the location is next to the beach, but I would not stay there again given how outdated the rooms and bathrooms are.
- ellecatherine2016 (10/5): Closing March 10, 2025:( - It’s over guys! Spoke to Juan the property is sold will be demolished and they are sadly building condos in this amazing piece of paradise!
So many years of great beach, wonderful staff and such an amazing getaway like you are not in Florida whatsoever, but only somewhere in the Caribbean ! I could see why Richard Nixon had a home in Key Biscayne!
- Tracy (10/5): Last of ‘old florida’ - Silver sands is a quaint, nostalgic property that sits right on the beach. We are so fortunate to have stayed there, rumor is it has been sold. It will be torn down and the old Florida charm will be replaced by a more expensive high rise, sad.
- Renee (8/5): - Steps to beach
- Harmony (8/5): - Quiet beach, true get away, heated pool, family friendly :) free parking, walkable restaurants and playground park.
- Karen (10/5): Wonderful hidden gem - Great staff
- Verified traveler (2/5): - A true slum
- Michael (6/5): - Property needs major rehab. Demolition possible
- Stacey (10/5): Great Stay! - Lovely little resort, classic/retro florida style - was really happy to share this place with my daughter. Felt like my child hood! It was nice to not be a high rise, almost fake fancy feeling hotel.
Warm pool, complimentary beach towels, and direct beach access.
Perfect stay, ready to come back for another winter escape!
- Dennis (10/5): - Trip down memory lane. Classic 50’s .
Tired but will be demolished sometime in near future. A shame
An amazing peaceful serene setting
- Lillie (6/5): - The run of the mill mom and pop 1 to 2 star motel.
- Leslie (10/5): - This is a genuine old fashioned motel right on an excellent beach and with a nice heated pool as well. It’s surprising it’s still here. As far as I can tell there’s nothing else like it in Miami, and certainly not on the enclave of Key Biscayne. Our room had a kitchenette, very helpful for a week long stay. The free parking makes a big difference. The rooms are fine, nothing special. All that matters is that they are clean and comfortable, and they are. The large central courtyard was a surprise. It’s beautiful and a quiet place to sit. But the best thing is the beach. The best in Miami and right there, just over the sand dune. A rare find.
- eric (10/5): Old Florida vibe, done well. - Great place. A taste of old Florida. Big room. On the beach. Good bed. Nice courtyard. Low key. Mellow. Great pool. Love it. Would stay here again, now that I know about it.
- Ernest (8/5): - Quiet and nostalgic location. Easy access to beach .
- Julie (10/5): - .
- joe (2/5): Sleep in your car, it will be a better experience. - It was like staying in a halfway house, there were people living in their rooms full-time. I didn't have hot water for two days. My TV didn't work, and the wifi would throttle to zero every 15 minutes and disconnect your device. The beds had a bottom and top sheet, and that was all. The last straw was when I stepped out of my cold morning shower and cut my foot on a piece of glass on the floor. Just sleep in your car, it would be more comfortable and less frustrating.
- Sofia (10/5): - Loved this mid-century modern jewel right on the beach!
- Tanya (6/5): Old and run down-basic cleanliness - Very old and run down. Furniture falling apart. Bed not horrible. At the risk of repeating myself-just super old. Sheets and bathroom fairly clean however. Cheapest in town-pay for what you get.
- Duncan (6/5): - We needed a property to stay in for one night and this fitted the bill. For one night stay it was fine, I wouldn’t stay more than a night though. It smells like the 1980’s, old. The air conditioner also wouldn’t stay on for more than 5 mins at a time. I must say it was very clean, and for the night we stayed, it was more than adequate.
- Jesus (10/5): - It was an excellent experience
- Erik (10/5): - Amazing location! Best beach and views
- Michael (10/5): A gem and great value for the money. - I was totally charmed. Its a slice of history - and sure an update would be lovely, then they would charge $700 a night and then you are missing the point. Its steps from the sand, quite and safe and clean, and totally adequate. If you want luxury accommodations, this isn't for you, but the price probably told you that. The staff has been helpful, warm and lovely.
- Thullyo (10/5): - Nice
- Pamela (10/5): - Good
- Jakelline (10/5): - Um lugar lindo
- ronildo b (10/5): - Nice
- F5738YFvanessaz (8/5): Loved it! - Fantastic stay here. People at reception nice, looks sketchy on the outside but very nice inside rooms. Everything works perfectly fine and beds are comfortable. Excellent location with a beautiful beach right behind the resort only a 1 minute walk. Pool is clean. While me and my family were gone, service came in and cleaned around, and made the beds. Fantastic stay here at Silver Sands.
- Jadian (10/5): - I originally had a hotel in Miami’ beach , but they didn’t have free parking , I found this one online , got a deal and booked same day , everyone was patient and friendly , it felt so safe and serene , 10/10 WILL GO AGAIN
- Graciela (6/5): - LOCATION
- Alina (10/5): Awesome hotel by the beach - Second time I stay here. I was here for a weekend in August and loved it so much I decided to do another weekend now in September. The location to the beach is what sold me. Sad to hear the place was sold and may become condominiums.
- Alina (10/5): Piece of paradise in Key Biscayne - I was skeptical to book my stay as some of the reviews given were terrible. I went ahead and booked my stay, and boy was I impressed! It’s not a high-end luxurious hotel but I was just looking for a place to stay right by the beach. The front desk staff and cleaning crew were very friendly and helpful. My room, although outdated, was clean and comfortable. It has that old/vintage motel feel. The property is right off the beach which was perfect. The pool was nice too. Loved all the greenery in and around the courtyard and property. Definitely will be staying here again soon!
- Muhammad (4/5): - Towels with holes.
No Iron and Stand, had to go to front desk to ask for it.
Very dirty pool with animal poop on the edges of getting into pool, plant debry in the pool.
Ants in the room.
Some outlets were not working.
No breakfast
No vending machine
- Hector (10/5): - It was Amazing
- rosangel Ramos (8/5): - The place is great, right on the beach, its very clean and the staff is amazing.
But sometimes around the pool people put their music too loud , specially Hispanic people. That’s the only thing I didn’t like .
- diana (10/5): - Worth it!
- Erin (6/5): - The pool area, office and courtyard were all clean and tidy. The staff were helpful and very pleasant.
The room was a mixed bag. The linens, tub etc, were clean. The blackout curtains were filthy. There were dark splatters on them I didn't want to get close enough to to identify. Half the electrical outlets didn't work, and the one in the bath was broken away from the mount so pushing in a plug caused it to recede back into the wall. Very sketchy. Walls were really thin, so noisy guests felt like they were sharing the room. Pillows were flat and the mattresses ancient and very hard.
Sounds like the property has been sold, so how long it will exist in its current state is ????
- Anthony (10/5): - Great time great firework show
- Rob (8/5): - Its old school but I did not like 2tv controls necessary to control volume etc.The front desk person could have been alot more pleasant.
- Julie (8/5): - The hotel is right on the beach
Unfortunately the hotel has been sold. Don’t know how much longer it will be open
- M. (8/5): - Beautiful views & charming old Florida accommodations.
The pool could not be enjoyed due the the volume of the music played by other guests. Management might want to ask all guests to be considerate of others and follow through with monitoring volume so all guests may enjoy the pool.
- Maggie (8/5): - Silver Sands has a great location 🙌
- Taylor (10/5): - It is such a beautiful property! It is clean, nice, and safe. There is parking which is so rare in the area and the beach is within walking distance. There is also food near by and so much to do. The most affordable place around!
- sylvia (10/5): - The grounds on the parking side were extremely shabby. The pool side was fine. The pool was clean and nice . The rooms were clean and nice and had a kitchen. Being right on the beach was great! “Old Florida “ motel. Not many of those left..
- B6014ADdayanas (2/5): STAY AWAY - Horrible. Would give it 0 starts if I could. Room are dirty and water system leaking. Pool is filthy - when I mean filthy I mean it. Beach and resort in good area but with the way management is at this place it won’t go far. Room had two queen beds and only allowed 1 car per room. We had visitors and they were telling the guest they needed to pay 75$ to be there for a few hours. Do yourself a favor and do not say here
- Hector (8/5): - Excellent location just at the front of the sea in Key Buscayne but needs some care. I understand they that have sold the property and this could be the reason.
- Ninive A. (2/5): - Horrible, rude, and harass personnel! The information in the listing hotel page says that parking is free. They try to charge you 65$ extra for each additional car parking spot.
- Fernando (2/5): - the property is run down I have personal belongings disappear from my room, they dont have chairs or umbrellas, no ice machine little kitchen had soap, paper towels,
- carlapA9594KV (2/5): Bad experience - My husband and I went there to spend the night to be close to the beach for our anniversary.
Our bathroom had hair. The bed seemed dirty
The remote was disgusting
The TV volume would not work
Called the front desk and no one answered, I had to use my cell phone for someone to pick up.
We left as it appeared deserted at 8:30 PM. After Less than four hours the staff in the front said oh we’re so sorry for your stay left a message for the manager and they did not want to reimburse me the night.
I then called back at two days later and they were only willing to reimburse me half of the room when we didn’t even stay there, the manager, Jacqueline doesn’t even call back. Horrible service, do not stay there
- Mercedes (2/5): - I will never rent here again. It is not clean and there were ants all over our snacks. Kitchen cabinets were broken and falling apart. The only good thing this place has is the beach! Not worth the money at all!!!
- Walter (10/5): - Proximity to the beautiful beach and pool. Paradise!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable. 1960s vibe - Quaint 1960s place close to beach. Beautiful gardens. Planes to sit outside with tables. Room had kitchenette with frig and microwave they also had coffee, cos and dishes silverware. No dishesoap so had to leave a couple of dirty dishes. Room appeared clean but had well used appearance. Shower... hot water took awhile but good water pressure once it was hot. Towels were really nice. Beds were comfortable for us. Air conditioner worked well. Light over bed didn't work. Tv was small but cable worked. Controls were hard to change channels. All in all, it was comfortable stay.
- Sonia Cruz (6/5): - Room and showers need a throrough cleaning . Some things were not working properly. Doors and wi does need maintenance.
- Daniel (2/5): - This property is from the 50s. Not updated and an "hourly" rate kind of place. We paid before we knew and it was already 7 pm with a 90 year old mother. I think workers . . construction on Key Byscaine wlive here monthly. Take it off the site guys!!
- Danielle (10/5): Heaven on Key Biscayne - Loved our visit. I have been going there for 50 years. Kind lovely people. Clean, quiet, convenient, fun.
- MaruVale2014 (4/5): No customer service - The gentleman at reception wasn’t very welcoming from the start. My husband had been quoted a rate but it wasn’t honored when we got there, paid 100 more than we were expecting. But what ruined it for us was that we had two rooms and when we did a walk thru to the second room, where our daughter and her friends were going to stay at, we saw broken glass in the floor. We reported it to the front desk man and he said he had no one to clean it up but when security arrived he would send them. No security ever showed up, what they did was leave a raggedy broom by the door! If we hadn’t noticed this, and not told my kid not to get barefoot, I assure you they would have gotten hurt! Incredible
- Tina (8/5): - This is obviously an old property but very clean in the rooms as well as the grounds. Pool was great! Air conditioning was cold! We would stay here again:-)
- William (6/5): - Hotel was fine...beach access great....
The swimming pool had a sign up that it was closed by Health Dept. But people were using it.
- Bibi Sana (8/5): - Overall, my stay at the hotel was pleasant, although I must note that the cleanliness of the bedsheets left something to be desired. While they appeared to have been washed, there were noticeable stains and spots that persisted, suggesting that they may be in need of renewal. However, I commend the hotel for its cleanliness in other areas, and I appreciated the safe and friendly atmosphere of the surrounding area.
- RayCFla (10/5): Yes, its old but very clean. Great value - Very old hotel that could use a little upkeep, BUT it was very clean. The rooms were spacious and both double beds very comfortable. The pool was huge and well kept. I dont think you'll find a better deal right on the water in Key Biscayne. Also, a great location with many businesses within walking distance via beach or sidewalk
- John (8/5): - Great location. A bit of cleanliness would’ve been good.
- Adrian (10/5): - Excelent staff ,
- MELISSA (2/5): Terrible - This was one of the worst places we have ever stayed at. It was only for one night thankfully. If we could've left and found another place we would've. The cottage we stayed in was falling apart on the outside (lattice work broken and just on the ground, rusted exterior, pebbles just laying on the deck and a very dirty exterior door) and the inside was just as bad. The furniture was stained and dirty, There was dirt on the floor and the bathroom was scary. There were rusted screws sticking out of the floor and definitely not clean. The beds were made with thread barren sheets and one skimpy blanket. On top of it all, we woke up the next morning with bug bites around our ankles. The pillows were gigantic decorative pillows. When we found standard pillows they were lumpy and trash worthy. The air vents were covered with dust and I woke up with a headache and stuffy. The toilet clogged after one use and my teen went to the front desk to get help. They sent him with a plunger and then told him to return it promptly. The pool was closed saying it wasn't up to code which was also disappointing because the beach was covered with man o war and seaweed and wasn't swimmable. Do not stay here. We figured it was just cheaper because it was outdated. Outdated is one thing, this is not clean or comfortable.
- Tamara (8/5): - Little run down and the beds weren’t very comfortable but the pool area was lovely and the beach was right there. Would stay again.
- Aura (8/5): - The staff was very nice and accommodating. The location was great and we enjoyed the clean beach at the end of the path. The pool was closed 1 of the day during our stay (and of course it was the only day we wanted to use it). The overall property is a bit outdated and the room need some TLC. The beds and pillows were old and definitely could use new material. Other than that, it was nice.
- Eric (8/5): - Nice quiet hotel
- Shatara (10/5): - Beach access directly behind the property, large pool, and walking distance to gorceries and dining options.
- Raymond (10/5): Clean, comfortable and convenient - Yes, it is old and a bit worn BUT it was very clean, rooms spacious and the beds comfortable. It could use a coat of paint, too. Its conveniently located right on the beach. Huge pool. Patio seating areas outside of every room. All around, a good value considering the area.
- elisabetht656 (10/5): Diamond in the (very) rough - A diamond in the rough, for sure. Spent four nights in a spacious room right by the beach. Unbelievable location, right on the beach! The rooms are run down, everything is off-kilter, the A/C is noisy, but the water pressure in shower is great, the room was impeccably clean, the staff very kind. I would happily stay again!
- Julie (10/5): Old classic Florida motel. An icon. - This motel is floridas go back to the good old days. Say the 60/70’s old fashioned and I’d say charming. One of the last icons.
Clean. On the beach. Fantastic guy checked us in. I’d definitely stay again as it’s out of the huddle and bustle of the main public beach down the way.
- Anton (8/5): - The hotel location was 2 minutes away from the beach. Will recommend to my family and friends
- Barbara (6/5): - The floor in the unit should be replaced since it is stained in many places.
- Ernesto (8/5): - .
- Jane (10/5): - The property is right on the beach, way closer than all the super swanky high-rise hotels surrounding it. It's a little rough around the edges, but, WOW, the location is just fabulous. Great for families!
- JW Mike (2/5): - TV didn't work. Called Front Desk, but it was never fixed.
Bedroom floor lamp didn't work.
- Jennifer (10/5): - This is a hidden gem. Quiet and right on the beach. Yes, the rooms are dated, but if you are ok to overlook that, it’s affordable and a great beachside location. Book a cabin or courtyard view.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Meh - The hotel is in a prime location but it is extremely run down. Very old and not updated. Clean but not comfortable. The only great thing is that it has direct beach access which is great.
- Sandra (6/5): - Friendly staff, clean room but very dated especially bathroom
- Tess2010Seattle (6/5): Campy place to stay. - Retro and we enjoyed that. Nice beach access and pool area. Funky and worn down motel. Their restaurant blew away with hurricane Andrew. Clean, but harsh chemical cleaners used so we had to air it out. Other reviews were accurate so we knew the pros and cons. No regrets.
- Kristin (10/5): - Location.
- Marc (4/5): - I’ve stayed at this property before - this was very disappointing time. The property is very rundown now. Definitely needs improvements. When we arrived at our room, the doorhandle was broken. Coming off. We got maintenance to secure it. However, it never felt like the door would lock. Same thing for the inside windows. They did not lock. Ground floor. As the afternoon went by, we noticed we had people next to us in the adjacent room. By sunset, their dogs wouldn’t stop barking. They barked into the evening when we finally went and asked for a new room or what could be done. The man at the front desk told me it was a service dog. We have experience with service dogs as we have one in our family. We have been to service dog training. I don’t know service dogs that bark nonstop. With that said we did move to a new room. it was later in the evening and by this point we went straight to bed. When I woke in the morning to take a shower, I discovered there was blood or dried poop in the shower. I am not sure which one because I did not get close to it. When I went to tell the man at the front desk, he apologized, but really did not seem to care. He left it to me to clean. He never sent somebody over to clean it and did not come to look at it himself. It was almost as if he didn’t believe me or thought that maybe I was trying to pull some scam on him. Again, a very disappointing stay. I’m not sure we will ever be back.
- Lisa (6/5): - Great choice if you looking for a basic no-frills property with great location that is steps to the beach. Our double pool view room had a table and chairs with umbrella right outside our door. We did not use the pool. Our room could use an update to the front door (warped sticky with wobbly door knob) and dated teal bathroom counter (too bad it wasn't replaced when the kitchen was done).
- David (8/5): - They sold the parking lot to a corporate film shoot and insisted i park in an inconvinient location to accomdate there lack of coordinating
- Verified traveler (6/5): decent place to stay for a short stay - I only stayed 2 nights to avoid traffic for a festival.
The hotel staff in the lobby was kind.
First day of my stay, my room was cleaned while I was out. Would of liked to have prior knowledge of this before they came in. Was not given a sign to hang outside to not have my room turned over. Felt uncomfortable since I had valuables in the room and the room had no safe.
The hotel is a bit older, gives off Miami motel vibes. Ample parking.
My room came with 2 full beds and a small kitchenette. The bed I slept in was hard as a rock, pillows didn’t have much fluff to them. My bathroom, had a full shower, great water pressure however one of my water nobs fell during my stay, which is made it nearly impossible to turn on the hot water.
Wall unit a/c worked great in my room, and it was on a running when I arrived.
Didn’t have much time to check out other amenities, however did pass through to the beach, saw that there was a decent sized pool, with chairs, and an easy to get to walk way to the beach.
- Thay (6/5): - Close to the beach
- Dreamer32595831204 (10/5): Great experience - Amazing hospitality and great location .The food was delicious and the ambience was great.we stayed for 2 nights at only however would like to come back again for this experience .
Must try for a gateway to nature
- Darlene (8/5): - Property is very dated and old but if you want to get away from craziness of Miami and be right on the beach. It’s very reasonable. Had a kitchen, near restaurants and grocery store. Bill Baggs Cape State Park was nice and so was Crandon Park. Staff was nice.
- Alison (10/5): - Great location, close to shopping and steps to the beach. The pool was amazing as well. The housekeeping staff was incredibly helpful and kind. Thank you, Florence! Great deal for the money.
- Timothy (10/5): T-N-T Stay - There was a dog in the neighboring room that would start barking at 7AM. The same neighbor would play their TV loud until 11-11:30 AM.
The room was dirty, the bathroom was dirty. The overall cleanliness was less than desirable.
The grounds and resort was beautiful with a lot of potential. The rooms not only dirty but very dated. And dated would be ok if the furniture didn’t have stains on them too. Again, dirty.
- Suzanne (10/5): - While this property needs a bit of updating, it has great bones and I’m so glad they’ve preserved it and not allowed capitalism to tear it down and rebuild another giant, modern hotel. I felt like I jumped back in time, very picturesque.
- edwinaI1162EI (10/5): Best kept secret on KeyBiscane, old school, Floridian accommodations on Premium in Beach - 10/10
If you're looking for an amazing beach, in between Ritz, Carlton and the Oceana resorts, look no further
SilverSands is a gem, old Lillian style motel, Leo, with a fantastic, saltwater, pool, amenities, umbrellas and chairs for a couple bucks and location location location
The rooms are clean, well appointed and comfortable,
If you are looking for a champagne dispenser in the hallway or opulence when you go next-door for $500
My best recollection is while standing on the beach, looking back at the motel, you don't even see it behind the Sandune, it's a beautiful, natural setting, people are super friendly, and down to earth
- Dorothy (8/5): - Retro but NICE!
- Katie (8/5): - Staff extremely nice and helpful. It appears that they are in the process of some much-needed renovations, and I hope they are completed soon as the spot is a gem. It has direct access to the beach, but they also have a pool if it's more your speed. Simply needs some updating.
- Jose (10/5): - Very nice hotel .
The pool with loud and vulgar music . They should not allowed that .
Not everyone have the same taste in music.
- Amelia (2/5): - If you can go anywhere do so. When I walked in the bathroom there were bugs on the toilet paper and no hot water in the shower . The hot water knob actually didn’t move at all. The water from the sink barely ran.
- Marjorie (10/5): - Antonio the guest service agent was very pleasant.
- Ivan (8/5): - This is a beautiful area, hotel needs updating. It’s unique atmosphere is awesome.
- Samantha (10/5): - Very nice & quiet, beach access.
- Michael (2/5): - The room was dingy, and the furniture is breaking apart I have never been into a hotel that is so horrible.
