C est tellement rare aujourd’hui
J y retournerai volontiers pour plusieurs nuits Rien
- Linda (9/5): Mooie stijlvolle accommodatie. - Prachtig landhuis. Knus, en intiem. Mooie ruimtes en ruime kamer. Grote badkamer met bubbelbad. Uitstekend ontbijt. Restaurant was leuk, maar eten werd heel snel geserveerd. We waren snel klaar. Jammer. Kwaliteit was wel goed, maar weinig sfeer.
- claudio (9/5): -
- Axel (9/5): Beautiful old fashioned hotel - Absolutely charming hotel, friendly staff. Good breakfast and great restaurant
- Joseph (9/5): -
- Grace (9/5): Very enjoyable friendly staff and excellent food - Excellent breakfast and excellent service and the hotel had lovely open fires which was most welcoming Nothing
- Sam (9/5): lovely surroundings, disappointing food - The whole ambience was lovely and staff very friendly and helpful The second night's dinner was virtually a replica of the previous night so I had the vegetarian option and it was very disappointing. Not good enough to change only one option for each course if clients are staying more than one night!
Also, we are having extreme difficulty obtaining a VAT receipt for our stay. When asked at the hotel, they said the receipt would be issued by Booking.com. Can you please check this out for us.
yours sincerely, Anne Forrest
- Paul (10/5): A wee slice of heaven in the Trossachs - Everything - the Roman Camp is quite simply our favourite hotel in Scotland. The setting, furnishings, staff, food, everything - are impeccable! Having to leave! The hotel has just been sold and we are hoping that the new owners maintain the look and feel of the place - it is truly unique and it’s impossible not to relax the moment you get there!
- PETER (7/5): Short enjoyable stay. - Friendly management and hotel staff. Great breakfast.
- Cyril (8/5): -
- Craig (9/5): Perfect for a quiet get away - Love this hotel, lots of character.
- F (10/5): -
- Alison (9/5): Lovely characterful hotel. - Great location. Lovely old building. Good breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful throughout.
Bedroom comfortable and clean. Nothing
- Josie (9/5): -
- roger (9/5): -
- Heather (9/5): A wonderful experience with fantastic food and staff - Just the most comfortable but quaint environment. So many nooks and crannies in a wonderful old building which has grown over hundreds of years and such beautiful grounds. And great staff! Thank you Danny, Charlotte and Matthew The weather!!
- Victor (8/5): - We were there for a couple days to attend a wedding. Beautiful ornate historic building: the gardens, drawing room and library are really something else. Standard rooms are spacious, mostly in good taste, the bed is comfortable, overall quiet. Nothing was terrible, but the quality doesn't feel like it fully matches the price; it feels a bit like it's living on its past glory. Things were not very clean - lots of lint on the carpet, dust on the tea set, the skylight in the bathroom was half covered in grime. Parts of the room furniture and the bathroom felt dated (as in, remade in the 80/90s and aged poorly, rather than feeling luxe and chic like the rest of the hotel). The bistro food was very forgettable.
- Nicola (10/5): A relaxing and romantic break away in a gorgeous location. - Beautiful building and gardens. Perfect location for exploring Callander and the surrounding area.
Rooms were large and furnished in keeping with the style and age of the building.
Bed was extremely comfortable and jacuzzi bath was an added touch of luxury.
Potting Shed Bistro was a perfect spot for a romantic, yet relaxed dinner and food was fantastic. Nothing.
- Roy (10/5): Perfect stay, we will com back. - Very warm welcome, beautifull garden and building and interior. Diner at the bistro next door. Great experience.
- Alex (8/5): Lovely historic hotel with charming staff - A lovely country house hotel with excellent communal rooms. Our room felt a little cramped probably due to trying to fit modern conveniences and comfort into a 17th century building.
- Renaud (9/5): - le charme de l'endroit, des salons et bibliothèque ou il fait bon vivre. Un grand jardin plein de charme et un personnel très sympathique
- James (9/5): - Real country house.So peaceful,great food ,great staff
- Joanne (10/5): Fantastic experience! - The hotel was beautiful from top to bottom, and our room was exceptionally spacious. Dan was an exceptional host who made us feel so welcome and took care of every detail. He always pointed us to the room with the best spot for pre- and after-dinner drinks in one of the beautifully decorated common areas, and the best spot for dinner. There was always a roaring fire going in every room. We really felt like we were living the high life here!! :) Nothing - everything was outstanding.
- Ewan (10/5): Always superb. - Breakfast always outstanding. Nothing .
- Monica (10/5): -
- Lynn (10/5): - A fascinating hotel steeped in history. The team was welcoming and professional. The downstairs lounges were beautiful and luxurious with open fires. The suite was pretty special. Gorgeous setting and gardens next to the river. Breakfast was great and service excellent. Nothing
- Richard (8/5): -
- Lesley (10/5): It’s such a wonderful place to stay very relaxing - Beautiful setting, our room was lovely and staff so helpful we look forward to staying again
- Susan (8/5): -
- robert (10/5): parfait -
- douglas (10/5): Deserving of its excellent reputation for Scottish hospitality. - Comfort as if being at home. Respect to the friendly staff. Wasn’t able to stay linger on this trip.
- CV (8/5): - Romantische locatie. Gastvrij personeel en uitstekende keuken. Diner is voortreffelijk; maar reserveer vooraf! Verouderd sanitair.
- Joel (9/5): - Beaucoup de charme et personnel très attentionné
- Roxane (10/5): -
- carey (10/5): -
- Roy (5/5): Acceptable for 1 night - Unique classic environment, specially elegant breakfast restaurant Needs general maintenance, carpets in rooms, etc. Separates lavatory faucets so water is very cold or very hot . Small old ugly shed separated from main building acting as restaurant does not cover minimum expectations
- Ursula (10/5): Ein absolutes Wohlfühlhotel ,wunderbar" old fashioned" mit hervorragender Küche.
Also eigentlich nichts.
- Christine (9/5): -
- THIERRY (10/5): Quiétude, confort et charme de la décoration à l anglaise ! - Accueil personnalisé, écoute, service très discret et attentif. Lieu charmant, très calme, literie très confortable
- Janice (10/5): - A very warm and friendly greeting on our arrival and a great stay.
The facilities were great and although might not be to everyone's taste,we loved it. The hotel is furnished as a home with antique furnishings.
We ate in the Potting Shed Bistro where the staff were excellent, helpful and cheerful.
Despite being fully booked they managed to find a slot for us.
Our room was comfortable but small which was fair enough as I had booked a small room.
Gardens were lovely and a very pleasant walk.
My husband was walking the Rob Roy Mighty Hike as were several other guests who were great company.
We will be revisiting very soon. Nothing.
- Melissa (8/5): - The most stunning place I've stayed in🥰 Have never taken so many photos of a hotel and beautiful grounds absolutely magical!! Water in shower wasn't hot and in the morning it was cold
- Dorothy (10/5): - Everything about the hotel is wonderful, room superb, food exceptional, fresh produce and the library, sitting room with open fires perfect. The staff especially Dan went above and beyond to make our stay so enjoyable.
- Steve (9/5): Great stay - Room was excellent. One small thing that would help: Bedside lamps ought to be independent of main room light switches. Could be dangerous if you need to use bathroom at night and unable to use lights from the bed. Otherwise perfect. Bistro also excellent value for money. Exceptional food and staff.
- Esther (10/5): -
- Cricko69 (10/5): - The house was amazing. Old and full of history but still comfortable. The library was my favourite room and we spent a few hours there after dinner in the most comfortable armchairs having drinks and talking to staff and other guests. Rooms were comfortable and the bed was perfect. Had dinner at the hotel which I would definitely recommend. Staff were so friendly and welcoming as well knowledgeable. Dan in particular was brilliant. A really enjoyable stay. Everything was perfect.
- Jackie (6/5): Good stay but disappointed in overall condition of room - Staff were amazing and location. Needs serious TLC. Could be amazing if some money spent on it. Not 4 star if you stay in the rooms sorry.
- Anna (10/5): - Very charming staff! The library, bar, and drawing rooms were beautifully appointed and we spent quite a bit of time in there. If you open the windows, you can hear the calming sounds of the River Teith while sitting by a cozy fire! The beds were extremely comfortable, I had the best nights sleep in ages! The bistro also serves really solid food! We will definitely revisit this on another trip!
- David John (5/5): Great position, good staff, a very dated hotel - Breakfast good, staff excellent The hotel really needed updating and money spent on it
- Chris (9/5): A touch of elegance in the Trossachs - The service was excellent throughout and the meal in the bistro and the breakfast were very good. The main dining room was beautiful and it would be good to have an evening meal there sometime.
- Gordon (8/5): Cracking Anniversary treat - As always a delightful stay. So welcoming and friendly - and the braw lounges and lovely gardens - mean the buildings and surrounds are as good as the staff.
Only issue was the plug hole in our bath wasn't very secure and the bath water disappeared - just when I wanted a jacuzzi in the bath!!!
- Judith (10/5): - My daughter and I stayed for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit.
- Catherine (9/5): - Lovely building, grounds and staff
- Bridget (1/5): - It was completely dreadful The place was falling apart
- Graeme (9/5): Very Atmospheric - Fantastic Breakfast Squeaky floorboards
- Forman (10/5): - The food was excellent and the staff was extremely accommodating. A very friendly but professional establishment. I would come back if I could tomorrow!
- Motherwell (6/5): - The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was lovely and the grounds were stunning I think it was overpriced for what it was There wasn't enough staff and our bathroom had a leak and was told to clean with a towel, for what we paid expected more defo not worth the money. Would have happily paid 150 not 300 very dated inside, needs an update the grounds were stunning
- shelley (8/5): Brilliant stay at a very quirky cool place! - The staff were fantastic, esp the tall dark haired man at front desk/bar. Got a warm welcome and always happy to chat.
Quirky wee place.
Beds were really comfortable
Food at Bistro was brilliant
- Grünerbel (10/5): -
- simon (3/5): Disappointing stay - Good location for exploring the area
Quiet location
Meals in Potting shed Run down hotel and abandoned
Restaurant was closed both nights
Bed Room windows did not stay open and the fan in the bathroom did not work
- Elissa (10/5): - Fabulous town and hotel. Lots of personality. Needs a bit of a refresh but it’s a lovely quiet restorative atmosphere.
Dan the waiter - caretaker was excellent. Very kind and friendly. So was Charlie.
Loved the dining experience.
- Graeme (5/5): Nice but far too over priced - Good location and nice grounds. Hotel is traditional and quirky. Potting shed restaurant was really nice. Great food and lovely staff. I just can’t see how they can justify such a high room price. And the breakfast of £19 per person is far too much for a very average breakfast.
Sorry but I was expecting so much more for the price.
- John (10/5): We loved it!!! - It’s a gorgeous building and grounds in a very convenient location. Great value in every way. Great food in both the restaurant and the bistro. The staff could not do anymore to make our stay any better. Maybe thin the trees to give a better view of the river? But I dare say that’s not allowed.
- David (10/5): -
- Marie (10/5): Calme et très accueillant - Tout était parfait, du personnel extrêmement gentil et bienveillant, à l’excellent repas pour finir au confort exceptionnel de la chambre
- MAURO (10/5): - Posizione, struttura e giardino Niente da segnalare
- Wendy (10/5): -
- Roisin (9/5): -
- F (10/5): -
- Lorna (10/5): Perfect and very relaxing - Breakfast exceptional.
Loved dinner in the potting shed.
Beautiful library
- F (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashleigh (8/5): Amazing stay in an incredibly old property. - Stunning property! We sat in the drawing room beside the huge fireplace most of the night. The staff were all great, so friendly and helpful. The grounds around the place are beautiful. We will definitely be back at Roman Camp for another stay! There are some parts that are strangely dated. Not like the 1625 kind of dated but as if an attempt to modernise some parts had been made in the early 90’s. The fine dining room is a bit odd with flowers in a plastic wrap in water.
This didn’t detract from our stay as we chose to dine in the bistro which was so cute with fairy lights. And the young waiter there went out his way to get me the drink I wanted.
- Julieann (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (9/5): Very enjoyable. - Very comfortable.
- Roy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Arturas (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (10/5): - Great staff!
- Anne (8/5): Very good -
- Wendy (10/5): Very enjoyable, the food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. - The quiet location. The food in the Bistro was excellent and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed on a Monday and a Tuesday but the Bistro was very good and just a short walk from the hotel.
- Catriona (10/5): Historic building in beautiful grounds - The location is central, but in beautiful grounds to stroll around at any time, lovely views of river. Very historic building. Great staff. Nothing
- Kenneth (9/5): Superb -
- Keith (8/5): Beautiful setting but the decoration is a bit tired - The location of the hotel was lovely and the breakfast and lunch we had there was very good. The room we stayed in was small and needed redecorating
- Keith (9/5): Superb -
- Christine (10/5): Perfect relaxing break in a beautiful hotel with stunning grounds - Beautiful , period property with stunning location , excellent food and lovely staff
Everything was wonderful from when we arrived to when we checked out Nothing
Having to leave
- F (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tamara (7/5): Very peaceful and beautiful setting. - The meal in the Potting Shed was excellent. The setting is superb and the living room is as beautiful as ever.
The dining room had a leaking ceiling and looked very tired. My room was rather tired looking. The curtain could not close completely. The hotel was virtually empty so it would have been nice to have been offered an upgrade.
The hotel looks as though it needs some refurb.
- Jocelyn (10/5): Serenity and History - Incomparable! Fabulous, historic building. Stunning gardens. River views. Lovely, warm staff. Not to be missed!
- Mike (9/5): Superb - Very comfortable relaxing atmosphere. Lovely rooms . Beautiful setting and ideal.locayion for getting into Callander . Very quiet
Special.mention to Charlie who coped brilliantly single handed in the Bistro for an hour before reinforcements arrived Could do with dog waste bin somewhere . Anyone walking dogs in the grounds left carrying a bag around with nowhere to put it,
- David (7/5): A little bit tired but the staff more than made up for it. Will likely be back sometime. - The staff Size of room
- Walter (9/5): It was a lovely stay in a beautiful old house with great food and looked after by friendly, attentive staff. - It’s an old and beautiful building with many very nice features set in beautiful grounds. There were a couple of minor housekeeping issues with the bedroom.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Neil (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (10/5): A little piece of heaven in the Trossachs - We have had the pleasure of staying at Roman Camp a number of times. It is truly the most relaxing and charming hotel. On our most recent stay, we were blessed with wonderful weather, and sat for several hours sipping drinks under the trellises at the Potting Shed bistro, which was total bliss. Some fantastic new recruits have further enhanced the quality of this utter gem of a hotel. We can’t wait to go back! Having to leave! There are some parts of the decor which look worn and shabby (chic!) but that only adds to the charm of the place. If you want glitz and bling, with none of the charm or soul, go to Gleneagles (and spend twice as much), but nowhere is remotely as good as Roman Camp!
- Lorna (9/5): Roman Camp Hotel - Beautiful location. We enjoyed a walk in the gardens and down to the river.
Dinner in the Potting Shed bistro was lovely...excellent food and atmosphere.
Hotel itself was lovely, public rooms were very nice and bedroom very comfortable.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing
- Wendy (10/5): An absolute must - grounds breathtaking! - Greeted the moment we arrived in the car park, helped into hotel with luggage and shown to room with the offer of a guided tour of the beautiful property Nothing all good
- Giuliaa (10/5): A magical place - The Roman Camp Country House is much more than a hotel. The feeling is that of staying in a beautiful English house of the 1800s, in the greenery, next to the river. There is a incredible park, the country house has many lounges, one more delightful than the other. The breakfast served at the table is very good and abundant. It is possible to have dinner at the restaurant or at the bistro, very nice. The location is exceptional, it seems to arrive in the land of fairy tales. Half an hour away there are castles, the highlands ... it is a magical place. Everything was more than perfect
- Justin (10/5): Exceptional - Food Brilliant
- NANCY (10/5): - Very nice place. Full of history.
