Guest Reviews
- Z6759YQbarbaram (4/5): It's gone down hill - very disappointing - This was our 3rd and final time staying here. It has completely lost its mojo and has gone down hill in a big way. I made the reservations for my husband and me earlier in the summer. I called the front desk to make the reservation so I actually spoke with a human. Neither upon making the reservation nor upon checking in were we ever told that two large wedding parties would be at the hotel AND that the bar and restaurant would be closed down all day and night which happened to be a Friday! We had just driven 2.5 hours to the hotel and, as we had in previous years, were looking forward to getting a drink and an early lunch. Nothing was open. We were told it was all due to the wedding parties. That set the tone for our weekend. We had to get back into the car and go into town which is what we were trying to avoid.
The coffee shop is no longer open. There's a canister of coffee in the lobby. As for the rooms, they were neat but not ultra clean. When I sat on the chair I could see small pieces of trash under the bureau and a plastic toy right near the bed. These were not hidden but were fairly visible which didn't give me much comfort about the cleanliness of the room. They no longer stock the refrigerator with beverages. including water. The toiletries in the bathroom were sparse as were the towels. In the past they had multiple sets of nice towels. When I kept trying to call housekeeping or the front desk to request more towels from the inroom phone I couldn't connect. It was a quick busy signal.
We had dinner on Saturday evening and although the room was lovely, the food came out in dribs and drabs. The timing was off between each person's meal being delivered. Nobody should have to wait 10 minutes to eat the food that is sitting on their plate while they wait for the rest of their party to get their meals.
This place is a regular, no frills, average hotel at best with a great view. Sadly, we won't be returning.
- 83genee (6/5): Beautiful Hotel ! Great Location ! OVERLY EXPENSIVE ! Front Desk staff needs courtesy Training. - Two dozen+ of us stayed here. Beautiful hotel. Great location.
The price per room is outrageous high. The restaurant drink & food prices are the highest (by far) in all of Boothbay.
The rooms are clean (no house keeping during our stay of multiple days) and attractive.
Making reservations by phone with the front desk was a nightmare ! We are guessing the record keeping system is not up to date; as we received 7 calls AFTER giving a credit card deposit; looking for the payment the hotel already had !
Front desk and older woman at restaurant could use some training on being courteous.
We will look for different accommodations the next time we stay … great compliments from others about The Tugboat Inn.
- mamma2NewJersey (8/5): 30 the Anniversary Getaway - I did a lot of research before booking my room because of the previous reviews regarding the room views. We stayed in room 210 which had a wrap around balcony and looked directly over the water and had amazing views. The side view was of the center courtyard of the hotel so we did not sit on that side. The only room that probably had a better view was room 211 where the side view was of the harbor as well. Room was clean and decorated nicely with just enough room for two people. The bathroom was super small with the sink outside and the door would stick each time which became comical because we kept thinking we were going to get stuck in there. There was no housekeeping during our stay which was fine because the housekeeping closet was right on our floor so we had access to fresh towels, linens, toilet paper etc., sort of like self service but at least we didn’t have to wait for someone to bring us what we needed. There were no irons in the room but they do have steamers that you can borrow and that was not a problem. The location is perfect and easy walk to the footbridge and into town. Happy hour drinks at the bar were great, very friendly staff. Dinner at Coastal Prime a little expensive but the food was amazing, perfectly cooked Filet Mignon. Would recommend but be specific about your room or you may be disappointed with the view.
- Johnst783 (8/5): Top Overall Location - Is the BHOI perfect? No, but it is likely the best overall choice in Boothbay Harbor. Rooms are attractive though a bit small; views of the harbor are excellent; ability to easily walk into town via the footbridge avoids any parking headaches; and relatively reasonable rates help. However, given the price, housekeeping should be offered on a daily basis. We expect to return!
- valeriecG8055OZ (4/5): Last time we will stay here... - This "resort" is just an old motel and despite the remodel several years ago, is now showing its age in areas such as loose toilet paper holder and shower handle. Worst soft, lumpy unsupportive king bed we have EVER experienced. Called front desk to ask for either a different room or a roll away bed...but no answer. My wife slept on her yoga mat on the floor and in a chair part of the night. Sliding door latch was stuck when we tried to go out onto balcony to eat breakfast, but no maintenance personnel until 10 am....and that's check out time! It took us 30 minutes to get it open ourselves.
Got stuck in the tiny elevator for 10 minutes while its brain was getting caught up with us pushing the button. It was long enough for us to hit the call button which connected to 911. It finally came to life while we were on the phone with the dispatcher. Our tiny balcony overlooked someone's private home full of teenagers out on their deck. We could hear their conversation and they ours. Too bad the property is no longer being managed or maintained to the standard Paul Coulombe had set. Food in Coastal Prime restaurant was decent, but my scallops and accompanying veggies were almost cold....for a New York restaurant price!
This will be our last visit here. Frustratingly disappointing after we had looked forward to a lovely stay for our anniversary.
- lcpaone (8/5): Grace Under Pressure - Our experience was marred by an issue with the fire alarm system. There was no fire, but the alarms blared without stop starting around 2 a.m. Terribly inconvenient, of course, but the resort manager, Michael Thomas (? not sure if I got the name right), did an amazing job of handling a very difficult situation with grace. He managed to get us settled in a different room for what remained of the night while trying to get the situation resolved, dealing with numerous other displaced guests and the fire department.
It's highly unlikely you'll run into a similar situation at this otherwise lovely and well-located property, but it's nice to know there's someone running the operation who is competent, professional and able to act with such grace under pressure.
- KWyman-NH (10/5): Great seaside hotel and fantastic views!!! - Just returned from the Boothbay Harbor Oceanside. Was worried after reading recent reviews, but shouldn’t have been. It is a beautiful hotel, good sized rooms, friendly and helpful staff and fantastic views. We totally enjoyed our stay there and definitely will again! We arrived several hours early thus our room wasn’t ready, so we walked into town. They called about 90 minutes before official check in to say it was now ready. I visited the front desk a handful of times asking various questions and they were always very helpful. The buildings are modern and coastal elegant. Bathrooms were good sized and thoughtfully designed.
Not worried about valet service for hotel (Restaurant had it for visitors not staying there), maid service every day or that the coffee machine in my room is a Kurig. If we needed anything they helped to get it. Also- it’s no longer associated with the golf course.
I spent a lot of time each morning and evening on our deck looking at the harbor. We didn’t want to leave. So beautiful!!!
- lynncC4075EV (10/5): Nice Accommodation in Beautiful Setting - Loved this hotel in beautiful Boothbay Harbor. Excellent friendly hotel staff. Great setting. We recommend this comfortable hotel.
- NP965 (4/5): Lost it’s luster - For many years we have stayed here, always loved it. We always book a corner waterfront view room. The place was always busy, Coastal Prime was always hopping, not now. We can see and feel the losses under new ownership; no water bottles in rooms, you have to pay for it. No more coffee shop, no snacks, no wine or drinks to purchase in your fridge, no real cream for coffee which is now a Kurig, no maid service during your stay (staffing problems are everywhere but this is a first), no shuttle service, large bag of garbage left in the hallway for days, etc… clearly owners are not involved or focused on the details. Last time we will come, sadly all good things come to an end.
- goldendog2018 (4/5): So sad - The food is such a disappointment with the new owners this year. Tiny portions, very expensive and no taste.
Too bad because it is such a nice spot.
They need to bring back 'Rocktide' popovers and seafood!
- 264adb (6/5): A lot has changed - This resort was sold, awhile back.. Arriving today, since the change, we were informed that there is NO Maid service? Are you kidding? Three days with no maid service? Also, a lot of fixtures were changed, modern Art replaced all the paintings.. And did not see a Valet service
- philomenas2016 (2/5): Bait and Switch - Bait & switch! My husband and I traveled with my brother and sister-in-law to Maine June 7-11, 2025 and stayed at the Boothbay Harbor Oceanside Resort. My sister-in-law made reservations for 2 identical rooms but when I called to provide payment for my room, “A” told me they were not the same room; mine was across the hall. I asked if the view is the same and she said “no it’s on the other side of the building.” I requested more detail and she said “if you go around the corner it’s the same view, or you can go walk over to your sister-in-law’s side.” I was confused about that statement and she then said “I can give you the same room in another building.” I was ok with another building as long as the room was the same. When we arrived, the original room number that my sister-in-law had received when she made the reservation was changed to the room directly below it and her original room, we found out, was given to a man who we saw arrive in a very large yacht which he docked at the hotel while we were there. She was, however, given the room below it, which was a bright, beautiful, spacious corner room with 2 sliding doors, & a large double-sink bathroom (and a big yacht parked at the dock in front of it). My husband and my room on the other hand was only accessible by the outside narrow walkway where the three next door neighbors sitting in the chairs outside had to stand up in order for us to walk by to get to our room. Our room was a dim corner “motel” room with a closet for a bathroom with a corner sink. There was no view from inside the room, only 1 small window behind the nightstand and lamp that was inaccessible and one wide window that you had to stand at to see out of. We paid $2 per night less than my brother and sister-in-law, but was prepared to pay the same or more for what we wanted. We politely requested a room change 2 separate times from two different front desk clerks and was told that they were booked. The parking lot was absolutely empty our entire stay and the room across from my brother and sister-in-law sat empty for 3 of the 4 nights we stayed. Our last night someone stayed in our original room, arriving late and checking out first thing the next morning. When asked at check out how was our stay, I expressed our dissatisfaction and received a simple apology from a different, but very nice young girl. I have no tips for future guests because even if you thoroughly vet this hotel, you get whatever you get. Guest satisfaction is not at all at the top of their list…I guess that is unless you arrive in a yacht!
- U8457DFsiobhanb (2/5): Not good - Don’t waste your money, rooms are very small and bathroom extra small. Thought we were staying in an up scale resort, not at all. Paid extra for a water view and wasn’t what I say was worth the money. Didn’t even have breakfast, we had to find a place for breakfast. Waste of money .
- FlossEm77 (8/5): Repeat Visit - This is a beautiful waterfront hotel that is associated with The Boothbay Harbor Golf Resort. If you want to play the course you must stay here. There is a hotel shuttle that will take you to the course. The hotel is lovely and the rooms are spotless, comfortable and some have amazing views. We prefer rooms 210 or 208. They have a big private balcony with amazing views of the harbor. The rooms are spacious but the bathroom is tiny. Beds are very comfortable with nice linens. Other rooms we've stayed in are very small with hardly space to walk around the bed and a communal balcony serving all the rooms on the floor. We did not like that. The hotel has a fabulous restaurant that overlooks the water. The staff is exceptional and daily room refresh is available upon request. We love staying here for the golf and it's easy access over the footbridge into town for shopping and restaurants. Excellent service, incredible views, access to town and comfortable rooms equals a wonderful experience.
- judithkL3775KV (8/5): It can only be called a resort if ALL amenities are TOP NOTCH. - Most areas of this resort are very very nice. Improvements can be made in the Deluxe King Room bathrooms. You can barely turn around. They need to remove a wall and door between the toilet and sink to make 1 room, not 2. It also needs nice tile on the walls and floor. All hotel room doors need to be replaced with heavy thick doors, not cheap hollow-core doors and cheap hardware. The hall carpets need replacing. They are thick and bouncy and stick up so it's easy to trip. If these changes are made, then they can begin to call this place a "resort".
- sherrimanc (10/5): Daughter’s Wedding - My daughter and son-in-law just had their dream wedding weekend! Everything was amazing! Service is first class…food incredible. ..staff welcoming, happy and helpful! Golf course beautiful! A very heartfelt thank you from our family!
- rhminetti (10/5): A perfect spot for a getaway! - This was our second stay at this resort. The room was nicely appointed and very clean. The staff was attentive and responsive. The restaurant had both a “gourmet” menu and a less expensive “bar” menu. While we did not golf at the nearby country club we did go for lunch. Dining on the deck overlooking the course was a real pleasure. We are already making plans for our next visit.
- cindydG9945FH (6/5): Poor Air Quality - The rooms appeared nice and were tastefully decorated. The bed and linens were comfortable. Bathrooms ridiculously small. The carpet felt damp and musty. We had four couples and we all woke up with sinus congestion and headaches. We are guessing the the dampness in the carpet was the culprit. The Pub staff was super friendly. Albeit the food was overpriced. We realize it is end of season but the staff should pay closer attention to the room air quality! We stayed here to play the wonderful golf course so we are hopeful 2024 will show improvements!!!!!
- flossem1049 (6/5): Disappointing View - We choose an upgrade "water front" view. Sadly the view was anything but impressive. Mostly we were looking at the side & room balconies of the wing of the hotel and a line of trees. There was absolutely no privacy on our deck, more like a fishbowl! The "water front" view was a narrow corridor and certainly not worth the upcharge. The comfortable bed had spotless linens, the bathroom was well appointed and roomy and in general, the room was very nice. We were very disappointed with the view as that was one of the most important things we were looking for during our visit to Boothbay Harbor. Staying at this hotel is a choice because it is the only way we get to play The Boothbay Harbor Golf resort course. That golf course is amazing!
- 809kevinw (8/5): Comfortable (but not perfect) - Straight up this is a place I really liked! Despite the fact that the bed sucked. Incredibly lumpy and soft.
Once we’re beyond that here’s the “low down.” Its close to every, steps away from the walkway to the village, really nice yet small well equipped gym, wonderfully clean rooms, excellent dining and service and reciprocal with maimed best golf course.
If you just give me a new bed I’ll come back. If not…….I’ll still go to BB but try something different.
- R9391PQsharond (8/5): Lovely coastal resort - My husband and I had the best view of the harbor on the top floor! Our deck wrapped around the side and front of our room. There is an overflow parking lot in case you cannot find a space in the main one. We had an excellent meal at the Coastal Prime restaurant! This restaurant has a lovely outdoor seating area with heaters, and they will give out blankets, if it gets too chilly. A front desk person wasn’t very helpful when asked certain things. The room was very nice, but our bed was too soft, and I would suggest better lighting over the sinks. The lights were very dim. All in all, I highly recommend this coastal resort.
- Tour770575 (6/5): Slow service, excellent food. - For an upscale hotel and restaurant in a small town I expected more.
The room was fine. Bed comfortable.
Receptionist not very welcoming.
Worst part of the visit was the service at the restaurant.
Food was excellent, but majority of the staff were untrained bus staff and 2 over worked wait staff. Long waits for service and between service. Manager had clearly not trained bus staff adequately.
Manager was visible but not helpful.
He was standing around barely helping as we sat and waited and waited…
Thankfully they had food runners so once we actually ordered, our food was still hot and excellent.
- sdgoodwin (8/5): Boothbay Harbor Oceanside Resort & Boothbay Harbor Country Club Review - This hotel is lovely...not a 5-star but well taken care of, with very nice amenities, a gorgeous location, and very gracious staff. My only nitpick is the size of the bathrooms, which are quite small. If you are a golfer this hotel does offer golf packages to play at the private Boothbay Harbor Country Club, which is a spectacular course and one of the highest rated in the state of Maine!
- Touring_Adventurer (8/5): Lovely Hotel Overlooking the Harbor & Nearby Footbridge - Great view and location with an easy walk to town for restaurants and shops. Lovely decor, though guest room & bathroom are small and lacking in electrical outlets. (We will bring extension cords next time.) Towels, bedding, an other amenities are "high end"/top quality. Our bed offered an exceptional night's sleep - so comfy and luxurious! Staff is very accommodating, aiming to please. Hotel recently installed an elevator, making luggage hauling so much easier - thank you! Hotel restaurant is available for nearby dining with great views or for take-outs.
- Footprints703259 (8/5): Review of Suite 303, BHOGR - We just got home from a 7 night stay at Boothbay Harbor Oceanside Golf Resort. It was our second stay here, and this time we opted for a suite, which was well worth the money. The weather wasn't great, and we enjoyed having the sitting room with t.v. to hang out in. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, and the sheets were luxurious.
The rooms were very clean and well decorated. The bathroom was long and narrow but had double sinks, which we appreciated. Water pressure in the shower was great.
The only negative I can think of is that they advertised our suite, #303, as a first floor suite and in reality it was a second floor suite because if you chose not to take the elevator you had to climb stairs to get to the suite. The elevator is very small, and slow, so we chose to take the stairs. If someone had mobility issues they could take the elevator.
We had a very good week at BHOGR and would definitely recommend a suite. We had a water view.
- nancysZ8971ST (10/5): All good! - My husband and I stayed here in September 2022 for a few days. It was so convenient to be near the bridge and walk across to restaurants. The room was well decorated, clean, and had a beautiful view of the bay. Staff was friendly and helpful. No complaints! We would definitely stay here again.
- 811bettop (6/5): Our experience - Nice hotel.
Great views!
Restaurant staff and food excellent.
A bit pricey for what it is.
At night it’s very difficult to rest bc some guests are sitting at their balconies drinking and chatting after midnight. Loud and nobody from the hotel around making sure to “keep it low”
Parking, guests don’t respect signs or handicap spots and again no one from the hotel out there to enforce it.
- cindy12344569905 (10/5): Lovely - The view! It was amaizing to have a dinner during the most beautiful sunset! Couple people took care about us, we appreciate all information about the whole place which Nina got us. Our server was Goran, he helped us to choose the wine! He wasn't wrong at all!!!
- DrDonnieDBA (10/5): Exceeded all expectations -- superb staff, service, and restaurant - My wife and I spent 4 nights here. The hotel was fantastic and exceeded all our expectations. The hotel restaurant, Coastal Prime, is the best restaurant in the area (see my separate review). The hotel has a very large staff that provides top-notch, first class service. It was a common site seeing staff cleaning everything -- floors, all the hand rails, everything. Our hotel room was on a pier, which was over the water during high tide. We had a spectacular view of the harbor. The rooms (besides being super clean) were quiet and comfortable.
- Catherine (10/5): Very nice overall - Very comfortable bed, mattress and linens. The restaurant and the overall service was also very good. The only not-so-great thing was that the bathroom was exceptionally tiny...and we are small people.
- Michael (10/5): - Perfect location, across the harbor from the commercial district but the footbridge to cross the harbor was virtually next door. Great nights on the deck with drinks and dessert. The room was well-appointed and the bed was very comfortable.
- Christopher (10/5): Great place - Great location. Great restaurant. Most comfortable bed ever.
- Cathy (10/5): - The location was perfect! Loved crossing the foot bridge to town. A magical place and truly a gem! Will be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Booth bay Harbor Oceanside Golf resort is in a fabulous location with a beautiful deck for cocktails and dinner and lunch...the golf club is lovely although we did not use it. Jane at the concierge desk was very helpful in locating kayaks for us and communicating with us. the overall hotel is lovely although the door to our room stuck really badly and the door was really difficult to open...also i think the bathroom was really tight and smaller than it should be. The towel rack placement makes it difficult to open the bathroom door.
- Ryan (10/5): 10/10 - Great spot to stay, will absolutely be back. Clean, comfortable and easily the nicest looking hotel in Boothbay. Trolley service was great as was the large deck overlooking the harbor/ proximity to the foot bridge. Only downside was the valet reserving all the open parking spots for dinner guests each night.
- Jenna (10/5): Thank you! - The fact that we can use the country club pool was everything! This place is so wonderful we will come back every year!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything, clean, friendly staff and the most beautiful waterview ever 😘👍
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Like the property because it is on waterfront and has cost docks.
Room did not have a view and no on-site pool that was operational.
- Mary (6/5): - Poor view of parking lot, upset that pool is not on the premises.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - If you’re going to stay in Boothbay Harbor you will love it here. Just a few steps from your room to a fantastic deck. Food and service Top notch. And if you play golf the Course is second to none
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the location and the personal service we received. We will be back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - They are trying hard to upgrade the property from Motel status.
The work done at the waterfront//dock/restaurant area is very upscale.
The quality of the room renovation was very good.
The cleanliness was amazing, especially seeing it was the seasons end.
The bedding/linens were upscale.
The biggest downside was the bathroom. Extremely small.
The door would not open all the way because it hits the towel rack.(room 110)
It appears the majority of the rooms have a parking lot view.
Very nice but not quite upscale.
- Tom (6/5): - Bathroom & sink areas were tiny and awkward to move around in. No shelf space around sink. Deadbolt lock was broken. Keurig machine in room was tucked into a cabinet whose door opened on the wrong side limiting access and light when trying to make coffee. (No complementary coffee in lobby) Mattress needs replacement. Gaps in blinds let bright outdoor light in all night. Not as expected for the price.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Great place to relax, loved the breakfast overlooking the harbor!
- Jill (10/5): - First time visiting Boothbay Harbor and certainly not the last! I’m so glad we chose to stay here. The view was stunning and the location couldn’t be better. The short walk to the foot bridge over the harbor was so convenient. The room was very comfortable and the amenities were nice. It was helpful to have multiple USB ports for chargers. We loved the terricloth bathrobes. The linens were fresh and towels were great too. However, there should be some other firmer pillow options, not just down feathers. We loved the mini bar & coffee maker, but would have liked a little more light in that area. With a dress code for dinner and the golf resort I was surprised there was no iron or luggage stands in the room. We felt the restaurant was a bit too upscale and out of place for the Boothbay vibe, but there were many other low key restaurants to choose from. Also, we were not impressed by the daily fee of $25 per guest to use the “wellness center“ at the golf resort. So we chose not to go. We did enjoy the outside deck and fire pit at night. All in all, we found this hotel to be very relaxing and of good value. We will definitely come back again.
- Tammi (8/5): Nice but needs an elevator! - This is a three-story motel that’s been remodeled to about a four-star hotel. The beds were wonderful the finishings in the room were beautiful. The bathroom door is extremely thin and everything inside the bathroom can be heard from the outside. The sink is extremely low sitting at about 30 inches above the ground which makes it awkward for someone who is much taller. The heat and air is awkwardly controlled running for about 3 to 4 minutes with the window unit shutting off and then restarting 20 minutes later. There are no elevators for this three-story building. You must be capable of climbing three stories of moderately steep stairs. The staff is willing to carry your suitcases up and down the stairs if you ask. The view is beautiful.
- Angela (10/5): - Great location. The resort is located extremely close to the footbridge which allows access to the waterfront piers. We enjoyed cocktails after dinner at the resort which was lovely. They provided heating lamps as well as blankets making it comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and plan on returning!
- Steve (8/5): - Great restaurant. Lobster Mac and cheese was great
- Jack (10/5): - Great location. Room clean and short walk to town.
