Guest Reviews
- Donald (7/5): -
- Mary (10/5): I had a very comfortable stay with a staff that made you welcomed - The staff was attentive and would take care of any you needed with a smile Hard to say better. The food, service, and staff was all above expectations
- Guest (9/5): - Nice place. Like attached restaurant. Room had crumbs on bed and drink rings on table and night stand.
- andrew (10/5): - Didnt really drink there
- Karl (6/5): Pet friendly. Has potential. Needs maintenance. - Really appreciated that they were pet friendly. Food at the restaurant was good, and server was friendly. Really did not appreciate that the pipes clanked all night. One of the staff said it was the dishwasher and would stop soon, but it continued all night, and all through our stay. Could hear it even through my earplugs. And then the AC unit tripped off during our last night, so we woke up warm. Could definitely use some improved maintenance.
- Carl (8/5): -
- Katie (10/5): - Clean room. Restaurant and bar on site.
- Cody (8/5): - Homey and cozy atmosphere
- Christopher (6/5): - It was older but clean and close to downtown. I would stay there again
- Debora (8/5): - Its a bit further from attractions and we had problems, no Uber or Lyft. Found a local cab driver and it worked out. The White Birch had delicious food, including the Friday Fish Fry and Saturday Steak night. True Wisconsin Supper Club vibe.
- Robert (10/5): Great hotel - Very nice hotel. Great customer service.
- Shelby (8/5): Would stay again - Nice place on the old fashion type. Convenient.
- Maria (5/5): -
- Ryan (10/5): - Our second stay here and loved it. Will be back again!
- Jody (6/5): - Staff nowhere to be found.
- Guest (5/5): Would not go back, mattress needed replacing could see body indents - They did not serve breakfast. Really never saw any staff , office was never open. Just saw restaurant staff but only at dinner time when they were open. Our room smelled of cigarettes, air conditioner d
very loud and ran out if toilet paper found a cart in hallway with a roll on it. No place for water, they gave us 2 water that were in the room but no place to refill. Tap water smells.
- Jerry (8/5): Classic Door County experience. - A lovely traditional Wisconsin inn. Quirky, simple, with friendly help. No coffee maker in room.
- Thomas (4/5): - There were almost no workers available when we called. No one when we checked in. asked for towels.
- Lacey (8/5): Good for the price - The room was spacious, and the bed with the bedding was so comfortable. Thin walls. Can hear others' conversations.
- Jill (10/5): - Very nice place. Convenient to have a restaurant in the lobby. Would stay again
- Daanen (4/5): Will not return. - It was conveniently located nearby city. No staff was ever on site (that we could tell). Was unaware all amenities were only available Wed thru Sat. Room was like sleeping in someone's basement (holes in carpet, broken drywall, missing wall tiles, broken furniture, noisy AC wall unit, surrounded by apartment buildings and nearby house that looks ready to fall over) - which is to say, is all acceptable at the right price but not for the cost we were charged. This place should have been a $65 a night place to lay your head - there is nothing about it even close to being an Inn of any kind.
Good thing the town of Sturgeon Bay is a great enough destination to compensate for the disappointment.
- Lisa (6/5): - We didn't mind the stay here. The room has everything we needed.
You will need a car to go the downtown and to beaches. There is not anything near the hotel. They have a big bar/restaurant in the hotel but it is closed a lot of days.
The room was big and clean. No elevator.
- Donald (10/5): - spacious rooms.
- James (8/5): -
- Jensema (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (7/5): Older facility, but clean and quiet. - Nice, quiet location. On site restaurant was very good. Clean. No breakfast..Full size beds were a bit small.
- Susan (6/5): - Only the upper plug worked on all outlets, which tells me they have an electrical issue. Shared microwave in the hall, who does that? I am going to assume this because of the electric issue. Had a tube tv!!! Used real keys for the rooms. It was like stepping back into the 1980’s. The room was very clean, had nice towels and good tp. Beds and pillows were good. Minimum toiletries, needed a Walmart run. No one at the front desk except for check in. Restaurant attached is only open a few days out of the week. Hours were wrong on the info card in our room so we were unable to order food after 7:00 on Wednesday. Would not go back.
- Joseph (10/5): - Provides a place to stay with unique rooms different from the standard big chains. Aside from check in, limited staff for property functions like an air BNB.
- Lynn (5/5): Passable -
- Donna (6/5): - Nice fluffy bathroom towels, quality toilet paper
- Mary (8/5): Overall, we enjoyed our stay as rooms were reasonably priced, clean and comfortable. - The motel is older, quaint, but rooms were spacious and very clean. The office staff was friendly and the groundskeeper was helpful. Room rate was reasonable and location was handy to events. Restaurant was closed.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - Coffee & juice are not considered breakfast for me!
- Jamie (8/5): - Clean but dated hotel. Was a good value for the price.
- Anonymous (6/5): Lemon.. - Cottons staff especially maintenance. I paid for a room with micro wave spa and tub was advertised on site. But no coffee machine no microwave in room no plastic utensils. For $168 charged value was maybe 50%. I've just returned from conparable hotel 2 3 stats with twice better value. The nightly rate should have been 80 no more.
- Bharti (10/5): - Nice property
- David (10/5): - The people where so kind and helpful
Had a great stay
- Michelle (6/5): It was okay. - It was quite nestled in the woods. The patio was wonderful. It was dated. Keys for door locks. No bolt lock. Dated wall paper.
- David (7/5): Good -
- Gloria (6/5): - If you want to experience other towns in Door County, you probably want to choose a town more centrally located. It's an older hotel with dated decor and does not offer breakfast.
- Brandon (10/5): - Accommodating, clean, everything I needed
- Theresa (4/5): Not a good first impression - Upon entering the building, the office wasn't staffed. I was told by a different guy to then go to the restaurant to find someone. No one there. Then I was told to go to the bar area to find someone. There were 2 people talking here and one lady finally helped me check in. I didn't think I should have to track down someone to check into my room. I wasn't offered help to my room even though it was up a flight of stairs and there wasn't an elevator. The place has a restaurant but doesn't offer guests any discount to dine there. Nothing told about if there was breakfast offered.
- Ryan (10/5): - Can’t say enough about Rick and Abbey. The hospitality was really astounding. Everyone we ran into at White Birch was outstanding. We will be back to visit for sure!
- amy (8/5): - The “fireplace “ in our room was an electric plug in model that didn’t give off any heat. Other than that the stay was great
- M (10/5): - Comfortable room. Fun to check out Sturgeon Bay and drive north to the quaint towns in Door County!
- Susan (4/5): First and last stay. - Location was nice. There was a fan running the all the time by our room.
Toilet is way to low for most adults.
Lack of staff and no eating available.
- Stacy (8/5): - Very nice and cozy. Perfect for a place to sleep. Very affordable. Just what we wanted.
- Natasha (8/5): - A bit outdated and the hot tub wasn’t hot but we still liked it.
- Kimberly (8/5): Very good - We enjoyed our stay. It was clean and comfortable and staff were nice and accommodating.
- Barrera (5/5): neutral 😐 - the location the room, outdated and dirty
- Verified traveler (8/5): - First, I absolutely love this inn. Even though the first level is an active restaurant, the entire facility is still charming and comforting. Second, we loved the location with easy access to main roads and walkability to other restaurants, gas stations, coffee, etc. We were able to stay out of the hustle and bustle of the Fall Fest in Sister Bay and enjoy our quiet space while easily accessing a ton of fun spots. Our only issue were the beds. My bedding was stained with a couple different substances. Additionally, both the mattresses were terribly hard. We didn't sleep much because our backs and shoulders hurt. I won't let the bed quality keep me from returning, but I will consider packing additional blankets/padding because there is zero give on the mattresses. It was like sleeping on the ground.
- Michael (1/5): Don't DO it! - Close proximity to Highway 57 when we decided to leave after one night, of a two night booking. Driving unto the site, the appearance is that of a boat and farm equipment storage yard. The building exterior is shabby to the point of encouraging immediate reconsideration of any stay. We arrived late so we picked up a key left in an envelope in the lobby. No staff was on site at ANY time during our stay, any only accessible by cell phone.
Upon entering the room, one's nose is exposed to a mixture of stale air and the cover up of fabreeze auto deodorizers attached to the heater/AC unit. The furnishings are of a Saturday rummage sale motif, surrounded by dingy and dated knotty pine walls. Bedding consisted of decades old polyester blankets discouraging any skin contact.
Room is advertised as having a whirlpool spa bath, but the dirty 1970's era tub suggested limited exposure to any surfaces.
There is a sign posted for guests to deposit any used towels on the hallway floor outside the room.
Little did we know that same dirty hallway floor is where we would find the replacements.
Needless to say we felt deceived, and staying another night in this disgusting environment would be detrimental to our health and wellbeing, so we forfeited our payment and left for a 3 hour drive home.
- Lynn (10/5): - Itbwas nice and quiet
- Lee (10/5): Nice job place cozy - Was very nice.
- Vang (10/5): Wonderful stay complemented by even better food. - White Birch Inn truly feels like a hidden gem. While the rooms show some age and the carpets could use an update, they are nonetheless well-maintained and comfortable. One of the highlights of our stay was the Inn's prime location—less than 30 minutes from several major parks and attractions, making it perfect for exploring the area. Our rooms were conveniently located above Samuelson’s Creek Pub & Grill, which served some of the best food we had in Door County. Our waitress, Heidi, was not only excellent at her job but also incredibly knowledgeable about the local area, offering great tips. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time and would happily stay at the White Birch Inn again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had a nice time. Food was excellent. Very large room. One chair in the room was in need of repair. Had an issue with the tv and maintenance was there very quickly and fixed it. All staff members were very nice.
- Kimberly J (8/5): White Birch - Nice inn. Needs updating. Tubs could’ve been cleaner but the rest of the room was nice. Staff is helpful. Quiet while we were there.
- Vincent (8/5): Out of the way and quite - What a wonderful peaceful QUIET place to stay. Has to be the quietest place we have ever stayed. Great food at the restaurant. The chicken Alfaro soup is a must. Only thing I would change is a bowed shower curtain for a little bit more room.
- Darren (1/5): Bad - No hot water
No Internet
And no staff
Called number numerous times. No answer no callback
- Jim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lukas (4/5): Disappointing -
- David (10/5): - Definitely no frills, but outstanding nonetheless. Very friendly, easy check in, safe and convenient. Would stay here again.
- Sheryl (9/5): So happy to have found this wonderful spot! We will be back! - We did like everything about the stay. Hoping to be able to eat at Samuelson's the next time we are there! The outside of the property was beautiful and the lobby was very interesting. The bar area was very well stocked, and dinner smelled wonderful! We were very appreciative to have found somewhere that accepts 1 and 2 night stays! The bathroom wasn't quite as clean as I had hoped. Nothing that made me not want to use the bathroom. Also, the door to the room stopped and caught on the floor at 1/3 of the way open.
- Linda (8/5): Very good -
- Lydia (9/5): Mini Moon - Vintage/rustic feel in a secluded location
- Brenda (4/5): Disappointing - Loved the whirlpool tub. The room was very spacious. The carpet was stained. The room had an odor. The airconditioner was very dirty- which contributed to the smell. The bed was worn out. The decor really needs to be updated. (Which I could live with if not for the uncleanliness and smell)
- Rajchel (10/5): Quaint and personable -
- Gladys (10/5): - The Inn was very charming and safe. Need to be mindful of conditions of things like towels and bed covers. A towel and a bed cover had holes in them. Overall staff was great and would highly recommend.
- Ally (6/5): - Enjoyed our stay here! Appreciated that they were pet friendly and close to cute downtown Sturgeon Bay. Could have used some shampoo in the bathroom but we brought some anyway!
- Jill (10/5): - It is obvious that this crew values courtesy, as they tend to every detail of a guest's stay:)
- David (5/5): Passable - Available bar and outside seating 1. Checked in at the bar. 2. Room didn't look like pictures online which means the rooms aren't uniform so it's misleading what you'll actually get.
- Jennifer (6/5): - No microwave in room, fridge was very small, limited channels. Room was clean. Average size room. Outdated but comfortable.
- Helen (3/5): I felt like I couldn’t get out fast enough - The staff were friendly enough, but not overly accommodating The hotel has clearly not been updated since the 80’s or early 90’s. Our room smelled musty and gross. The entire hotel had an odd smell to it. The carpet in our room was stained. The bathroom caulk and faucets were old and stained. It wasn’t just that the hotel was old, it’s that it clearly hasn’t been deep cleaned in some time.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Our room was so spacious and clean! Very nice and loved the food at the restaurant! Such excellent flavors! The staff was all very friendly and attentive!
- Jean (6/5): - The rooms were considered historic. The beds were OK. The towels were great however, there was a fainting couch that was grungy and should be removed. A small table and a couple of chairs would have been much more preferred. There were only two rooms on the main floor. Everything else was upstairs. No elevator. No breakfast but coffee and juice. Basically, no Wi-Fi signal. The restaurant Samuelson's was delicious however it is closed Sunday and Monday night.
- Brenda (6/5): - When you walk in there is no one there to great you. Felt like I was an inconvenience when found someone. Place was quiet except for Friday night the restaurant was busy. Bed was comfy room adequately clean and stocked. Wished I’d had booked closer to the little towns so we could have walked instead of driving so much (my bad).
- William (4/5): THere were other places around with similar prices but much better accommodations = C- - There was coffee and orange juice in the morning. Restaurant was nice, but not open very good hours, so we had no meals there. It was quiet and close by the main road. THere were games available to play. The room had a lounge couch that was broken, ugly, and uncomfortable. And it was RED, like the carpet and wallpaper pattern. The electric fireplace did not work.
- Kevin (8/5): - Quiet location in sturgeon bay. Older property.
- Lynn (8/5): A great base camp for exploring door county. - Very quiet and off the beaten path so a little more privacy. The restaurant was great. Staff was amazing. The air conditioner was a little loud and blows directly on the beds. Maybe if you put the beds on the opposite side of the room that would probably be a little better.
- Debra (6/5): - The White Birch Inn for the most part was adequate. Room was clean, had enough toiletries and towels and no disturbances to note. With
that being said, the building was dated. Our bathroom faucet had problems, the shower was clogged, the room had a window air conditioner that was extremely loud all night and not that its a major issue for some, but there was no elevator. If you have heavy items to carry up and down, its tricky if your room is on the second floor.
- Rebecca (8/5): - Quaint, vintage, clean, simple. Not for a smell-sensitive person. Smells from kitchen fill up entire place.
- tutku (6/5): - Room had odor when we checked in and a/c was not effective enough. Had to open windows to get rid of the odor. Maybe it was something temporary. Other than that it is an ok inn.
- Jacquelyn (8/5): - Rooms are not sound proof and the doors get sticks on the carpet. We did find some ants in our room but this place is by a lots of trees. It was cute and the restaurant inside of it has great food.
- Laurianna (10/5): It was the perfect spot to get away. Definitely felt very relaxing. The staff was super nice. - How quiet it was. The parking lot
- Woodrow (6/5): Pleasant -
- Christa (6/5): You get what you pay for - Sheets were clean
Towels were clean
Sink clean
Great location
Reasonable Toilet wasn't cleaned from previous guest
Odd chemical smell in room
Random wrappers on the floor and debris in drawers
- Tim (7/5): Great staff makes up for food shortfall - Great parking especially with a 21ft boat. Staff was extremely friendly again (only reason we came back this year) The food at the restaurant was ok at best
- Jeff (8/5): Enjoyable - Service at the bar and restaurant was great No complaints
- Julie (10/5): - White Birch Inn is amazing!! Truly the old school resort with all the modern comforts!! They helped correct the hotels.com reservation mistake (number of adults vs children) very quickly and efficiently. The on-site restaurant and bar was fantastic!!!! Delicious food!!
- Darian (8/5): Very good -
- Cathy (6/5): - This is a very old property with lots of potential. The setting is very nice. The rooms are clean but very outdated. The restaurant hours were limited therefore we did not have an opportunity to eat there. We did stop for a drink at 8pm and they reluctantly decided to serve us but the apparent owner was rude about it. They turned away a family of five. I don't think I would stay again but it served our purpose at the time.
- James (1/5): Sucked! - What breakfast? Most everything.
- Emily (10/5): - We had a great time here! It was cozy and close to everything. We will definitely be back!
- Judith (6/5): Pleasant -
- Scott (8/5): This was our 2nd stay. - Tjis is the second time we've stayed at White Birch Inn. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean. It's just dated and could use a refresh. The outside could really use some power washing too.
- Robert (10/5): - We were pleasantly surprised. We weren't really sure what to expect, but it was warm and welcoming, and even though we had a dog, we had easy access from the parking lot to our room upstairs. The staff was very welcoming and we had an excellent time. We ate in the dining room both nights of our stay and the food was delicious. Two thumbs up to the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. I would definitely like to stay here again in the future.
- Rick (7/5): Comfortable and sizable room at a decent price that could use some updating. - The restaurant was homey and service was good. The television (and decor) looked to be from the 80’s. The tv was really terrible.
- Scott (8/5): Very good -
- Wayne (9/5): Superb - Didn’t know there was done
- Meta (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (8/5): Very good -
