Guest Reviews
- Shona (5/5): - Close to Town and good for a one night stay with a pet. A little scruffy and barking dogs on site ...fine for a 3 star accommodation.
- Christine (10/5): Beautiful stay in an idylic cottage - Beautiful croisants, free ride to the ferry, people welcoming. all good
- Robin (9/5): Brilliant - Everything was great Not applicable

- Greg (10/5): Quiet, spacious, and very comfortable stay. - Juliearna was amazing, efficient, communicative, and able to juggle her bookings to give us an unexpected upgrade. We ended up in a cottage room, separate from the main hotel building, and the space was fantastic.
The bed was large, and very comfortable, with plenty of space. The bathroom was incredibly clean and inviting, the shower pressure and temperature were great.
Book in and check out were incredibly simple, and the price represented value for money.
There is plenty of parking right outside, and a small but functioning kitchen and decent sized lounge space. To be honest, nothing really. Management were great, the room more than met our needs, and the bed was comfy.
The place is close to the amenities, with good restaurants nearby.

- Helena (10/5): -
- Peter (8/5): - Great location near the centre of Picton, easy walking to wharf, cruise boats, restaurants, parks and Edwin Fox museum Carparking on site was tight and difficult, owners 6 dogs were annoying
- Robert (9/5): Spacious, comfortable accommodation with excellent breakfast. - Spacious and tastefully decorated in an early 20th Century style, with an excellent continental breakfast. No complaints
- Andreas (8/5): Gerne wieder - Schön eingerichtetes Zimmer, toller Frühstücksraum, netter Vermieter
- Phillip (9/5): Enjoyable - A comfortable and private b&b. Close to town and amenities.
- Lisa (9/5): - Close to town ,lovely room and bathroom Traffic little noisy S room at front and had to walk across hall to bathroom but robes supplied
- Fiona (6/5): -

- Helen (7/5): Quiet B&B in attractive building and good location. Facilities fine for a B&B but you don't have hotel basic - Good location. Super comfortable bed. Attractive building Although private, the bathroom wasn't en suite - had to cross the hall. No TV. No fridge. There was no air/con - not a problem when I stayed but useful to know.
- David (7/5): This is ideal if you want a single night in a good location in picton - It was a cosy little Bach behind the main b&b house. Very close to all amenities inc ferry, water taxi, restaurants, bakery and laundromat. Shower was good, breakfast was good staff were nice.
- Joanne (10/5): -
- Knud (5/5): -
- Mitchell (10/5): Get away - Location was good. We dropped bags off early. When returned to check in our bags had been taken to our cottage. My jacket had been hung up for me ,and my sweater folded. Breakfast was delivered by a lovely lady. A nice way to start the day .
Highly recommend

- Ineke (8/5): Great location, cute cottage! - Location was great, arrived after midnight due to a late ferry, and able to find the place. We stayed in the cottage which was separate to the main B&B. It was cute, with a small kitchen, lounge and separate bedroom and bathroom.
Staff were friendly and I had called earlier in the day letting them know that we would be arriving late and we made arrangements for us to access the cottage. Enjoyed our short stay there!
- Philipp (9/5): -
- James (8/5): Excellent except parking. - Beautiful and very
Clean Parking was a problem. Had to park in the supermarket lot, 1 block away.
Cama demasiado blanda
- Katrien (9/5): - Totally charming, breakfast brought to the room.
Wirkte etwas sehr abgewohnt.
- Kerry (10/5): -
- Whyman (10/5): - Great location from the ferry terminal, we stayed in cute cottage which was comfortable and pristine. Everything was great.
- Kevin (10/5): -
- Joanne (9/5): -
- Joanne Kim (10/5): - loved the muesli. Great location. The private garden area made it special.
- David (10/5): A delightful couple of nights enabling us to enjoy walks, sights, food and wine in Picton. - Location, cleanliness, facilities, comfort, privacy. Nothing. Loved it!
- Max (10/5): -
- Helena (7/5): OK but overpriced for what it is. For the same price you can stay in a more comfortable hotel - Great location
Good size cottage
Comfortable bed There was no breakfast provided (a B&B which doesn't offer breakfast to all guests - go figure). Apparently I booked without breakfast but on my booking it was clear there was a continental breakfast available and that I would have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast. But apparently not. So we were pretty disappointed with that.
The staff were lovely but they didn't seem to know what was going on half the time.
- Robert (8/5): Great location. -
- Craig (6/5): A comfortable stay with lovely staff. On the edge of needing bathroom update. - Great accommodating staff and homey decor. Bathroom in need of an update. Unfortunately there was pet hair on the bed's blanket. Comfy bed though.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Great location walking distance from ferry. Clean & comfortable. -
- Te Ra Awatea (10/5): -
- Maria (10/5): Wonderful place to stay in the center of Picton. - We had a lovely one bedroom cottage which was cozy and comfortable. Wonderful vintage bathtub, robes and a nice living area and kitchenette. The bed was very comfy. The staff and owners were so nice and had our room ready and warm for our arrival. Warm chocolate croissants were a delicious surprise in the morning. Nothing
- Hans (9/5): We had a nice stay - Great location friendly staff delightful cottage
- Mary (8/5): Really enjoyed our stay at The Gables. If we visit Picton again, we will be staying with you! - The breakfast, location, owner and staff were fantastic - helpful and friendly. A small negative - the complimentary dressing gown was rather tatty.
- Jacqui (7/5): Good -
- Patricia (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (8/5): Very good - The location was great if you are catching the ferry to the North Island the next day. We could easily walk to dinner. The cottage was very clean and we enjoyed the breakfast that was delivered to our room. Staff was very responsive and very helpful. The furniture was low and not as comfortable as we would like.
- Carla (8/5): Very good -
- Frederick (8/5): Very good - A well located hotel, close to the Main Street. We were in an annexe to the rear which was comfortable and quiet. The hotel is linked to a nearby restaurant and the staff cover both. They were very helpful. Good breakfast.
- Jess (9/5): Superb - Lovely hosts, great breakfast and cozy rustic room. Would definitely stay here again!
- Joe (10/5): - Charming place with gracious hosts and wonderful breakfast.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - Good location, very comfortable.
- Fitch (8/5): Very good - Visit family Nice close parking is an issue.
- Thomas (10/5): - Spending the night after time in Nelson before ferry ride to Wellington. Perfect location by downtown yet private and quiet cottage. Just perfect
- Michael (9/5): Whilst only a short overnight stay , the accommodation and our hosts where wonderful - Lovely cottage with all amenities Nil
- Janet (8/5): Loved meeting their Dogs Troy and Zina. - The history and meeting the owner. The breakfast was good too.
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Expat (10/5): Hidden gem of a cottage. - Don’t hesitate to book this place. It’s fabulous. It was great all round.
- Lisa (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jeremy (5/5): Convenient for Ferry to Marlborough Sound - Convenient location to ferry terminal Bathroom was across a corridor. Needed to carry a key at night to lock bathroom. Tricky not to wake other guests at night when visiting bathroom.
- Ben (7/5): Great room. Great location. Poor breakfast offering. - Good room. Very comfortable and well appointed room Breakfast was a disappointing self serve toast and cereal with no cooked eggs bacon & sausages on offer. For the extra paid I would suggest travellers (especially solo travellers) get fed elsewhere. Also TV in room was on the blink - audio kept cutting out.
- John (8/5): Cute and convenient - Spacious, tasteful, and comfortable bed.
- Wendy (9/5): Great accommodation with great service. - Spacious and clean cottage close to Picton shops and wharf. Nicely decorated and very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Light breakfast in the dining room included, and delivered to our room when we needed to leave early. Parking available on site. Would like more space for hanging clothes. No instructions for how to use TV and no movies available to stream. Would like hanging shower organiser instead of the bottles being on the floor.
- Russell (9/5): Location is perfect - Location is perfect quiet off road parking I would recommend Nothing
- Russell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb - Bed was comfortable and the room was good sized. Staff were very nice. Continental breakfast was good - cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, toast, and fresh, hot chocolate croissants. Yum Toilet dripped little and the shower was a little small, but neither is a deal breaker.
- Russell (8/5): Great location friendly accommodation - Location TV was not working properly buffering but everything else was fine
- Leon (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were lovely and the room was gorgeous
- Mary (10/5): - Adorable place. Wonderful and flexible hosts.
- Millar (6/5): Pleasant -
- Barbara (10/5): What a gem of a place to stay - The whole place was warm and welcoming. Clean, comfortable and cozy room. A wonderful breakfast was included. The attention to detail at the cottage and provided by the staff during our stay was great N/A
- Odonis (7/5): Good -
- Arvey (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was nice, it had everything we needed and the breakfast was amazing!
Overall a nice stay.
- Tracy (7/5): Good -
- Brittany (10/5): - This place is cute and tucked away in the small town of Picton. Even though it is a port town for the ferry, it was super quiet. The views were gorgeous and the little cottage style flat was cozy. The only issue being that the sink in the bathroom leaked all night, and there was no fan available, but only a small mark off for those as it wasn't a huge problem. The owner was incredibly nice and hospitable. We would stay in this place again for certain!
- Diana (10/5): Perfect location in this very sweet town. Would stay there again. Ate breakfast in the house and e - It was a full apartment. Nice to have A couch and place to stretch out after several nights in hotel rooms. Everything was great
- Sarah (6/5): Pleasant - Good location, comfy bed and lovely housekeeper who tried to be as accommodating as could be - Breakfast was not included as I booked late, despite there being no mention of this on my booking confirmation (which actually referenced breakfast options) and the breakfast itself being fruit, cereals, a croissant and toast.
- Poor wifi connectivity
- When I asked if I could store my bags inside for the day while I went out, I was told I had to leave them outside the front door as staff may not be available when I needed to collect them
Small things but have an impact on whether I would stay there again
- Erika (6/5): Pleasant - - location : 2 minutes by walk to the harbor and restaurants
- staff welcoming and prepared a breakfast box for our early departure.
- large room in the main building The road on the front of the house is quite busy during the day; consequently the room is getting exposed. Luckily, the traffic is less overnight.
- Elisa (10/5): Great place, very friendly staff, clean and cozy -
- Vikki (10/5): Exceptional - This was located very conveniently near the ferry for the QCT. The decor was gorgeous, from the little outside courtyard, to the bedroom and the bathroom. Speaking of which, I enjoyed an amazing soak in the large bath with all the amenities provided. The little touches like wine on arrival and bathrobes were much appreciated. And we were glad of some helpful hints about the local wineries when we left.
- Dianne (7/5): Quiet and comfortable stay in central location to Picton town centre - Comfortable room in a central location. Comfortable bed. Nice sitting area and television.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (10/5): A great find in Picton - A welcoming and lovely spot to stay in Picton. We stayed in the one of the cottages and it was excellent. Very comfortable rooms, very private and had everything we needed. A delicious breakfast too !
- Hans (10/5): We had lovely stay at the Gables - Great cottage close to everything in Picton, warm, comfortable roomy with a nice little courtyard and convenient parking.
- Ajpn (9/5): Will definitely stay there again. It's pleasant to stay at a place that is not a main stream hotel. - Wonderful muffins in the morning and the little cottage had a very homely feel. The bed was a little on the hard side. The wifi was not all that efficient (kept cutting out) but that was not too much of an issue as the main goal was a holiday anyway.
- Lucie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natán (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely cottage with a cozy athmosphere.
Kindness of the owners
- Alex (8/5): Ideal for me. - Quiet and private. Beautiful bed very comfortable and a very cute cottage.
Owner was very kind. The sugar was old. And no milk.
Very scant on cutlery gave a motel feel just having 2 of each.
- Neil (9/5): Superb -
- Haley (10/5): great location and cosy comfortable cottage - I went to Picton for a night to catch up with friends and do some running with my little dog . the Gables was a perfect spot within easy walking distance of the bars and restaurants and dog friendly which was perfect . the cottage was warm and cosy and well appointed. Elisabeth was lovely and everything was great! will come back. nothing!
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Desmond (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (8/5): Very good - Location was good and had off street parking. Comfy bed. Nice touch with a complimentary glass of wine upon arrival and a delicious croissant as a treat upon leaving.
- Meryl (7/5): Great location - easy access to downtown Picton! - We liked that our cottage was quiet and separate from the main house. Bedding was very comfortable. Loved the location as it was a short walk to go downtown. Parking was easy too. Staff and dogs were very friendly. No armoire or closet to hang our clothes - very odd. And because we had a same day reservation, we didn't get breakfast ... so it was a B&B without the B? I didn't understand this. Coffee maker was a bit messy to use. Internet connection was slow... we like to stream movies in the evenings when we travel. I would cut out.
- Rebecca (7/5): Great location and friendly staff. - The staff were really friendly and the location was excellent We had breakfast in our room and went out for the day and the plates/leftovers weren’t collected so sat in the room all day. Also the owner had dogs that started barking both mornings for long periods at 6:30-7
- Ian (10/5): Great B&B just off town centre - Great B&B just off the town centre. Pick up from the late ferry was very useful. Upgraded to cottage was nice and goid service.
- Victoria (10/5): It was wonderful but not long enough. - Beautiful little cottage, charmingly decorated and close enough to walk to restaurants. There were good things provided for breakfast though we had to leave very early.
- Jan (9/5): Very good value for money with continental breakfast included - Location and friendly staff Shower pressure not too good in en-suite bedroom
- JUDY (10/5): Super comfortable - Thank you for a wonderful night stay! You have a lovely home. It’s wonderful how walkable Picton is for everything
