Guest Reviews
- Rosalind (10/5): - Top quality..clean...great hospitality and history.
One of the best ever! Can hardly wait to return! Absolutely nothing! It was fab!
- John (10/5): The inn is so beautiful! Olga was just great! Absolutely loved it! - It was beautiful! Olga was awesome! The owner was very helpful and accommodating!
- David (6/5): Nice cozy inn but not a good rest in room 5 - The location and the restoration of the old Inn is beautiful.
Olga hosts and makes a fantastic breakfast.
The modern decoration of the common areas and it’s tranquility. Our room, number 5 was very small but the biggest problem was the bed which was too small for two adults and very uncomfortable.
The heater’s knob on the base board was loose and didn’t allow it to function like it should so the temperature couldn’t be easily maintained.
The room has two adjoining doors so you could hear everything from the neighboring rooms.
The facilities in the bathroom weren’t up to date, the extractor made a huge noise when on, no cold water pressure for the sink and the toilet leaked water from the tank.
Also, the WiFi coverage in the room was unreliable.
- Christina (9/5): - We loved the atmosphere. Very quaint and cabin like. Very good breakfast. If your tall you had to really pay attention to the doorways. Thankfully they have them padded. Lol
- Michele (9/5): Great - Beautiful Nothing
- John (10/5): -
- William (10/5): Beautiful Inn in a beautiful spot - This is a beautiful little hotel in midcoast Maine. If you want to stay in an inn that feels of the place that its located then you could not do better than this location. The building and common spaces are charming and the grounds are beautiful
- Amanda (8/5): Quaint pastoral inn retreat on Westport Island - Wonderful manager and team, all very friendly and showed interest in visitors beyond what is expected. Very quaint and clean facilities all around. Yummy breakfast. Wonderful outdoor gardens and walking paths. Great stay on Westport Island! The room was slightly smaller than what we were expecting from photos, however they were not inaccurate.

- Eleanor (10/5): - Truly wonderful stay at the Inn. The interior was so beautiful and tasteful, retaining lots of character. The grounds were gorgeous and full of wildlife. Couldn’t fault it at all, so relaxing and peaceful.
- Roser (9/5): Entorn excelent! - La excelent atenció de la star. Olga. La situació i el paisatge. L'alçada del sostre de l'habitació.

- Kathleen (10/5): Olga is a wonderful host!!!! - Picturesque

- Vanessa (9/5): A hidden gem that is worth a slight detour - More like a luxury farm stay - beautifully furnished with modern comforts but in keeping with the colonial era of the building. Staff are not on site but a call away and recommended a stand-out restaurant in Wincasset for dinner (Water Street Kitchen, which is by the river). The included breakfast was wonderful - fresh fruit and home cooked Mexican style vegetarian tortillas. We had a morning walk through the surrounding property and discovered a table tennis table in one of the barns. Would highly recommend - very convenient to the Maine Maritime Museum Booking.com didn’t send the email with instructions on how to do the self-checkin but we sorted it by phoning the cell no. Left at reception. This was not the hotel’s fault but an issue that seems to happen if you use bookings.com
- Wendy (9/5): -
- Ruben (7/5): Relaxing atmosphere…. - Grounds are beautiful. They falsely advertise they have WIFI , they don’t. For some of us that need to keep in touch , at times, with loved ones or business… this is a major issue.
- Correa (10/5): We loved our stay at the Squire Tarbox Inn. The place was impeccably neat and clean. Olga and Nathan - Breakfast al fresco was wonderful, especially the yogurt, granola and fresh berries!
Olga prepared a scrumptious chorizo tortilla with cilantro tomato salsa, yummy!
We loved the ambience of the common spaces. Tranquil.
Very tidy, neat and clean! Nothing
- Polina (8/5): Beautiful property, but room was just ok. - Beautiful space and grounds. Check in instructions were confusing. Our room (deluxe king) smelled muggy and didn’t have insects screens on windows: we couldn’t air it out. Bed linens were polyester.
- Baltes (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (9/5): The vey very best Tarbox I’ve stayed in - In splendid nature. Friendliness of fellow guests The bugs and room a little small.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ethan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nixon (10/5): Will recommend to all my friends. - Great breakfast; gorgeous location!! Nothing!
- Distefano (10/5): A beautiful property for a quiet stay in the woods - The Inn was absolutely beautiful. The staff was very knowledgeable about the property and guest relations. Our room was comfortable. Breakfast was included and was delicious. I would recommend this property and look forward to our next stay
- Alberto (10/5): Exceptional - An enchanted place in the middle of nature. Absolute tranquility and history mixed with comfort. Absolutely magical. Very well-kept and delicious breakfast. Each room had a historical charm of other times, attention to detail. Magnificent room and very comfortable bed. A fairy tale!
- Robin (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (9/5): Superb -
- Kay` (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (10/5): - Excellent visit to Maine and the Squire Tarbox. New owners have made major design improvements and restored the property.
- Nancy (10/5): Serene setting - wonderful sleep- wish I had more time ! - Serene - ability to walk around the property and down to the river.
- Holly (10/5): Exceptional - I requested a gluten free option for breakfast, had a good GF blueberry muffin :)
Beautiful, pristine, and quiet location.
- Joanna (10/5): If you’re looking for a moment of zen, this is the spot. - what a beautiful inn! the accommodations and the service were impeccable, and we were made feel very welcome. the location is a bit remote which has its advantages and drawbacks
- Christine (10/5): Lovely! - Property was gorgeous, hosts were accommodating, breakfast was so good!
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandra (10/5): Exceptional - absolutely wonderful place nothing, it was exceptionally perfect
- Richard (10/5): Very welcoming and comfortable stay in a charming inn! - Exquisite decor and furnishing in a pre-Revolutionary War home which retains its structural integrity. Delicious breakfasts and convenient pantry for refreshments. It is a bit of a drive from sightseeing destinations.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marcelo (5/5): Passable -
- Irena (9/5): Nice stay in Maine - Beautiful property. Would stay again . Breakfast was very basic and lacked options .
They charged me more on my card than Booking.com price
- Lee (9/5): Nice stay with comfortable bed & great breakfast - The property seem to have a lot of history and a beautiful backyard. The bed was very comfortable and the room is large. Great breakfast provided as well The shower in our room was so small that it was very hard to maneuver.
- Elberta (10/5): We wish we could have stayed longer. - The historic nature of the Inn was preserved, while at the same time tastefully updated, creating a calm, relaxing ambiance. Pebbled walkway to front door made it difficult to wheel suitcases in.
- Ishita (10/5): Can't wait to book our next stay! - Our stay truly exceeded our expectations. Highlights: The Inn is easy to access via car, the property itself is just gorgeous (the photos do not do it justice), and the breakfast was delicious.
There was plenty to do in the Inn itself if you didn't feel like walking around the property (games, TV, a stunning piano) and lots of great treats and gifts in the Honor Bar. The rooms are charming and very clean, with all the necessary amenities in the bathroom.
Check-in was easy, the staff was kind and accommodating, and the Inn provided an incredibly helpful guidebook, especially for newcomers in the area.
We wish we could have stayed longer to explore all the property had to offer, and we hope to come back to see it in all seasons! It is a gem that we could not be happier about stumbling upon. Not a ding to the property itself, but it is an inn, so there will be noise from the common spaces in the rooms. But our fellow travelers generally respected quiet hours, and it did not affect our sleep much. For heavy sleepers, there are ACs in the rooms to drown out the noise.
- Jonathan (7/5): A vintage inn with many pluses and a few significant drawbacks. - The inn is richly and authentically historic and full of charm. It is also choppy with low ceilings and squeaky small staircases to upper rooms with low ceilings. Reserve only a larger king room on the first floor. The decks and living rooms are comfortable. This is not a place for anyone with mobility issues unfortunately. Mediocre cold breakfast and lots of spots to trip or bump your head.
- William (9/5): Superb -
- Martha (10/5): Unexpected gem on the Maine coast — comfortable, beautiful and stylishly unique! - I traveled in Maine for almost a month, and this was my favorite find! The historic building has been artfully restored and beautifully decorated to create a truly special space. The grounds and gardens are spectacular and breakfast well done each day (I ended up staying longer than originally planned). Staff went over and above to assist guests and ensure a great visit. Comfortable beds (and pillows), too! Nothing I didn’t like except that I didn’t schedule a longer stay! While initially the location seems a bit remote, it’s a great basecamp for coastal exploring.
- Emma (10/5): Wonderful stay at this beautiful B&B. It’s so peaceful here! - Beautiful grounds, comfortable room, good breakfast. Nothing
- Richard (9/5): Beautiful and stylish - Fabulous acres of grounds leading to a beautiful salt marsh estuary - better views than the local trail. Super stylish Inn with a beautiful deck and gardens Just be aware there are no restaurants on the island so be prepared to drive to eat. It's an old building with super thin walls in at least some of the rooms.
- Erin (10/5): Beautiful B&B in a peaceful setting - Extremely comfortable bed! Nothing
- Neilie (8/5): Our room was very hot and the ac wasn’t working - Nice and clean No staff to be seen
- Anonymous (10/5): This is a very special place- lots of attention to details. Tranquil - Gorgeous property
- Garth (5/5): Passable - A nice old house, tastfully refurbished. No one to great us. In fact, I didn't see anyone at all the whole time. It was humid and the air conditioner was old and very loud in our tiny room. The bathroom exhaust fan was broken down. It was so very miserable to take a shower.
Did not see anyone at all, no breakfasts.. not worth what we paid at all. I have stayed at hundreds of hotels and never had to complain. This place is misrepresented.
- Kirby (9/5): The inn was a peaceful, interesting, and fun "home base" for exploring coastal Maine - Unique 18th century farm and estate, beautifully restored recently, tranquil grounds and setting, off the beaten path but within easy reach of many mid-coast Maine destinations; terrific owner and staff Note ideal for those with wheelchairs or walkers. Because of the nature of centuries-old buildings like this, there are several stairs between main sections of the building on the main floor.
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tiffany (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb - This beautifully restored historic property is a gem! We loved our room, the common spaces and the grounds. The designer of this property has really done the place justice; it is such a relaxing getaway and I'm sure would make a great event space. We had a nice stay here and really hope people come visit & enjoy its uniqueness! I have dietary restrictions, so offering GF/non bread/dairy options at breakfast would be nice. The location is also a little tricky as it is a decent drive to all amenities. Wish we could have explored more of the grounds but the mosquitos were pretty bad.
- Vd (10/5): Exceptional -
- Krabbypantz (9/5): Superb -
- Timothy (10/5): A hidden gem in Mid-coast Maine - My wife and I stumbled across the Inn looking for a getaway after our sons graduation. What a find this was! We originally intended to just stay for a night, but it turned into 3 because the the place was just so comfortable and relaxing. The grounds are expansive and well maintained, great for a walk down to the water or just resting your eyes on from the terrace over a glass of wine. The rooms are all beautifully furnished and bathrooms totally updated. The decor throughout the Inn is charming and all the details are all so interesting. Lots of rooms to sit in and a wonderful old barn that is fully renovated. The only quibble I had was that there were no restaurants on the island. The place was so relaxing that we didnt want to leave, but ended up doing so for dinner (only about 15 minutes drive). (of course, they do serve a very nice breakfast.)
- Oona (10/5): - Lovely spot.
- Carol (10/5): Darling inn located in a beautiful location - Really cute inn on Westport Island. Amazing grounds. Very peaceful and quiet area; this would be a great place for a family reunion or a wedding! Great breakfast too!
- Beth (10/5): Exceptional - Missed breakfast unfortunately, but I loved the property and the tasteful decor inside. Such a beautiful, serene place to hang your hat for a night!
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Philippa (9/5): Superb -
- David (8/5): Beautiful property, tastefully decorated, let down by unimaginative breakfast - Historic property, well maintained and tastefully furnished Breakfast was far from what we expected. Website suggested it would be something special, with locally sourced, fresh ingredients. Instead it was uninspiring, and very limited - nothing fresh or local.
- Tanith (8/5): great stay in a beautiful inn - beautiful location and inn and great breakfast
- Martina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ricardo (6/5): Very noisy - Nice house but very noisy room. Breakfast is simple, not very healthy options but the fruit bowl was good.
- Nancy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Beverley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (5/5): Passable - The owner told us that this room would rent for $280 via their website but booking.com charged us $306!
- Ilze (10/5): Maine is truly beautiful and this gem in mid Coast area - everything n/a
- Kimberley (10/5): - Susanne was SO amazing! She was so sweet to check in on my trip from Boston and the amenities were just what was needed! I have no reason to go back and visit Wiscasset- but I would go back to stay here!
- Todd (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful, though too brief, stay. Room was historic with modern fixtures and a comfortable bed, the commons rooms were beautifully, tastefully decorated, and the grounds provided for lovely walks, and visits with the resident goats and chickens. Tasty breakfast box and excellent coffee completed the stay. Only some rooms are dog friendly, but they love the dogs that stay.
- Robert (8/5): - Unique historical inn with comfortable beds.nice grounds to walk
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful place nestled in the quiet backroads. Beautiful, old, 18th Century inn (on the National Register of Historic Places) yet still has all of the modern amenities and conveniences. Staff were kind and helpful. The place was charming and immaculate. We also enjoyed the property - a barn with very friendly goats and chickens, and a walking path that led to an idyllic view of a Maine river - gorgeous. Would highly recommend a stay here if you're in the vicinity. Know that we can’t wait to visit again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful property and excellent staff & service! Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is a nice country setting with nicely kept buildings very relaxing. The bed was very comfortable and a great breakfast.
- Stephen (10/5): - loved the decor, beautiful renovation! Stephanie was very welcoming and informative. We'll be back soon for a longer stay.
- Reneau (10/5): Home away from home-amazing service and food - Elizabeth was the best, welcoming, showed me the inn and grounds including the old fashioned honor bar and made me feel so welcome. Monday night was wood fired pizza night so after a walk down to the salt marsh river I enjoyed a great pizza and relaxing before a wood stove.
I turned in early-no tv and slept over 8 hours with great sheets and down pillows so peaceful. When I woke breakfast was homemade yogurt steed fruit and fresh eggs from the farms chickens. After making a couple copies I needed Elizabeth walked me out helping with my bags. This was a business trip that felt like a weekend getaway. I will be back.
- LB (8/5): Charming 17th Century Inn - In the middle of nowhere, about 12 miles south of Wiscasset, lies this surprise of a country inn. Comfortable rooms, a delightful innkeeper and many thoughtful accents and touches beckon one to stay longer than we were able. Definitely recommended for those who want to stay away from the "cookie cutter" hotel chains.
- Dan (8/5): Out of the way, historic - The elegance of restoration makes it memorable. The Swiss chef is spot on for dinner and breakfast. In season, the surrounding land is gorgeous but requires precaution against biting insects. Long drive (6 miles) from main road
- Christopher (10/5): perfect getaway - A little slice of Heaven tucked away on a most peaceful and natural setting as can be imagined! Walking the grounds or exploring the natural bounty of the island can"t be more cathartic than this. Extremely comfortable beds and very clean rooms leave little to be desired if you are looking for that non plugged in experience. The stars at nite are what's showing and there is no intermission!!Chef Mario and crew are top notch , I've worked at the Ritz, and they perform w/o a hitch!
Wish I had more time but I will savor what I can.
- Anne (10/5): Beautiful, secluded country inn - The Squire Tarbox Inn is a family owned and run establishment of the highest quality. Secluded on one of the point/islands on the coast of Maine, the operators have chosen to have no television on site to enhance the experience of quiet and restfulness. The inn is beautifully cared for, with every wall containing interesting art, and flowers on every side table. The staff is thoughtful and intelligent, and works hard to make your experience a lovely one. Highly recommended if you want a true get away.
