Guest Reviews
- barbara (10/5): Excellent overnight stay - Great accommodation with large bar and separate dining room for overnight guests. Really well oiled machine catering for us walkers (short walk off the Hadrian’s Wall path) and locals alike. Food excellent on an evening and breakfast. Beers great. We also did their star racing event which was brilliant. Bedroom clean and well equipped. Drying room was great for walking clothes. Optional packed lunches (£10) for walkers was great.
- Robyn (10/5): Wonderful experience, great vibe in the pub, nothing too much trouble. - Amazing pub, great atmosphere, just what we had read and better. Breakfast really good. Staff looked after us very well. Loved the support for the Sycamore “stump”. Great walks from the pub. Nothing
- Tomas (8/5): -
- Joseph (10/5): A perfect stop when walking Hadria/ - Comfy bed and a great shower. Breakfast was immense!
- Chris (7/5): Disappointing - Excellent location, ideal for walking Hadrians Wall. We received a really warm welcome from the reception staff and given clear and concise information. The room was clean. Good choice of local ales and nice food menu. As we were staying overnight a table in the restaurant was reserved for us for the whole evening. Upon arriving we asked the member of staff if we could change that to a table in the bar area. This was agreed and we were sat at a. Ice table by the window. We stayed at this table for a couple of hours however when we ordered food we were told we would need to move because someone else had booked that table. We tried to explain that we were staying overnight and we had arranged for this table all evening however we were very rudely told to move and were made to sit right next to the toilets (which were filthy and smelt disgusting) This ruined the rest of the evening for us and neither of us wanted to eat our food.
The whole place seemed extremely short staffed and they seems harassed and stressed. This is probably how the confusion over the table happened but given to prices we expected much better.
The rooms were clean but very small and the walls were paper thin and you can hear every word the people next door said which led to a disrupted nights sleep.
I ordered a packed lunch to take on the next days walk. This was completely inedible, the bread was stale and like cardboard. I was also told that normally there was a tray baked muesli bar but the chef didn’t have time last night and no alternative offered. Extremely disappointing and made for a terrible days walking especially as I paid £10 for this inedible food.
Upon checkout there was no one on reception so there was a long queue and we had to wait nearly 30minutes to check out.
Overall I would not return and would not recommend. If this is how bad it is in May I can only imagine how poor it is when it is really just in the summer.
- Paul (10/5): Coveniently placed for our requirements where we had a restful stay - It was located just off Hadrians Wall which we were trekking, the staff were friendly and efficient. There was a good selection of meals Had no issues
- Geja (8/5): Lively, popular hikers place. Great location. - Beautiful location to meet our brother who was walking the Pennine Way. None
- Nick (8/5): - Great place for staying when walking Hadrian's wall
- Deacon (8/5): -
- Ursula (9/5): - Sehr saubere Zimmer, perfekte Beratung beim Abendessen es könnten ein paar mehr Haken im Bad und Zimmer vorhanden sein.
- David (9/5): Great for Hadrian's Wall walk and evening meal - Friendly staff, good beer and food The packed lunch for nexts day walk was a little overpriced
- Cheryl (10/5): -
- Claire (8/5): -
- Helen (9/5): - Lovely hotel and evening meal. Really nice atmosphere. Good range of Gluten-free options for breakfast.
- Ian Lambert (9/5): - This place is hammered by walkers and tourists alike - id expected it to be a little tired looking but far from it...the staff and owners clearly work hard to maintain standards! Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Bar was great with locally brewed ales a plenty. One of the dining areas is to the rear and your left feeling a bit out of things - that said some may prefer to be away from the crowd as it were!
- Bronno (10/5): Excellent stay. - Great staff. Good food. Comfortable room.
- Didier (7/5): -
- ROBIN (8/5): - Great location.

- Steve (8/5): Great Location - Great location. Good facilities. Friendly staff. Room was a bit small, but ok for 1 night.
- victoria (7/5): Comfortable stay - Perfect for Hadrian's wall - some staff training issues. - Ideally positioned for hiking sections of Hadrians wall. Comfortable warm room with nicely stocked tea tray. Hot shower. Amenities for walkers like drying rooms for wet wetaher clothes. Very thoughtful. Evening food was wholesome and plentiful but on the expensive side- captive audience i suppose. Staff cold and largely uninterested in interacting with customers from check in to bar and dinner service. It was not communnicated to us properly that the property provides a complimentary breakfast which would have been nice to have - or about details of the Tap room adjacent.
- Angelique (10/5): Great hotel and great location - Lovely Hotel, staff were lovely and accommodating. The food was lovely both evening meal and breakfast, good varietyto choose from. It's a perfect location for Hadrians Wall and star gazing. I would definitely stop there again N/A
- Peter (10/5): Lovely hotel brilliantly situated. - Lovely and clean, great food and beer. Having the tap house attached gave an extra element. Staff very attentive. Fantastically situated for local roman wall sites and right next-door to the Sill.visitor centre. Didn't visit the dark sky experience but will next time. Small point tricky to fill kettle.
- Philippa (9/5): A perfect venue for walking the wall and a welcome berth at the end of a long day - Everything very friendly and efficient. Good food and very welcoming staff. Shower room a bit cramped
- Eelke (9/5): Fijne locatie en een goed bed. - Ruime ontbijt keuze. Mooie locatie en een eigen bier brouwerij.
- Ray (9/5): Lovely spot and lovely staff - Staff and location were excellent Slight issue with noise, could hear people in other rooms but everyone quieted down after 10pm so it didnt impact

- Steve (8/5): -
- Isabella (8/5): Great comfy beds and pillows, but far too hot so that was unpleasant and made it difficult to sleep. - Very comfortable beds, shower very good and well sealed with shower doors so no leaks onto floor. Food in restaurant was tasty though hearty, which would be great for a walking holiday. Too hot in room due to bathroom towel rail, temp not adjustable. Property overall was too hot for my liking.
Damp stains near windows in paint.
- Sarah (10/5): Absolutely Fantastic!!!!! - Absolutely amazing place to stay!!! The location, the staff, the food, the shop, the pub, the bedrooms.. everything is excellent 👌 Nothing to not like
- Zoe Tolfree (7/5): -

- Kevin (8/5): - Breakfast and dinner very high quality. Room was cold when we arrived heating not turned on for our arrival. Extremely cold weather.
- Tracey (8/5): Perfect warm and comfy place to base yourself for walking Hadrians wall - Good beer, good food, comfortable, warm and great staff Nothing
- Dirk (9/5): -
- John (3/5): - The extraction fans from the kitchen outside my bedroom window were unexpected and noisy.
- David (9/5): Had a lovely stay would do it again - Breaky good location fab Nothing
- Sue (9/5): Very good except for the noise as above. - Almost everything was very good. Our room was close to a noisy extractor/heat pump so we had to have the window closed until late evening.
- Philip (9/5): -
- Joanne (10/5): I would definitely recommend The Twice Brewed Inn as a place to stay, and would definitely come back again. - Everything this is an exceptional place to stay Nothing
- Boag (10/5): Fab stay on Hadrian's Wall. - Love this area and the Twice Brewed Inn is the perfect place to stay to explore on foot. It's a brew pub with a tap room too with a good variety of IPAs and stouts, my favourite being Main Offender, an imperial stout. Food is excellent and served by very pleasant staff. A warm and comfortable bedroom was waiting at the end of the day.
- Craig (9/5): -
- Joanne (10/5): -
- Amos (9/5): - The staff were welcoming and jovial, asking about my day's activities and sharing thoughts about the local area.
The Sipping room was great - a good selection of Twice Brewed drinks and apparel to buy. And the staff again were jolly and happy to talk about the products. The rooms are just sufficient for a good break after a long trail walk.
- Kirsty (10/5): 10/10 - Everything! Nothing that I disliked
- daniel (10/5): -
- Martyn (10/5): Perfect and a total pleasure in every way. - The most amazing thing was the staff - they always went above and beyond and nothing was too much hassle.
The other stuff was great too: shower, bedroom (bed linen etc) and the restaurant.
The lovely breakfast staff even got me some extra nuts for my porridge in the morning. Nothing
- Ingram (10/5): Why stay and where else … - Terrific value for money.
Excellent staff. Personable, polite, efficient.
Food was really excellent. Well done Chef. Nothing.
- Ross (10/5): Stayed here with some pals after walking a section of Hadrians Wall. Great place to stay if you’re walking near Sycamore - Comfortable rooms although a bit small. Lovely breakfast, great evening meal and loads of choice for beers and ales NA
- Henry (10/5): Top Notch Friendl Inn - friendly staff, cozy restaurant, excellent beer, excellent food all round spot on Nothing
- F.M (8/5): -
- Cheryl (10/5): -
- Maria (8/5): -
- RICHARD (9/5): Classic pub in an amazing location on Hadrian's Wall. - We were walking Hadrian's Wall path. After a tough day, we headed into Twice Brewed for our overnight. The staff are super-friendly, the pub/hotel is warm. Our room was cosy, the meal was nice and the breakfast excellent. The location is unique/prime for the best part of Hadrian's Wall. Everything was great. The room was a little small but it is an old hostelry so they can't do anything about it.

Great food, large array of drinks options.
Staff friendly & helpful.
Good pack-up option for walkers.
Clean room & bathroom
Good breakfast options Rooms were a bit tight.
Inflexibility with food order i.e. I wanted thick cut chips as opposed to fries with my burger but not allowed! Option was to pay for additional side of chips & waste the fries!
