Guest Reviews
- Leslie (6/5): - There is no staff on site.
- Emmanuel (6/5): - Management was great and helpful but facility below par for the cost. Brown coloured beddings and towels are a turn off
- Ronit (10/5): - Good stay. Amazing hosts. Very close to pizza store and convenience store for daily needs.
Definitely will be visiting soon.
- Patrick (2/5): - I had a really terrible experience with this motel. I was able to “check in”, even though there is no staff on site. This is where the problems really began. Since there is no staff on site, if you have an issue, you are going to have an even bigger issue getting it resolved. The toilet in my room had its chain disconnected, and to fix that, you had to know how toilets work and stick your hand in a tank of dank black mold tainted water. Staff were unresponsive to multiple texts and calls. Avoid this motel at all costs.
- Bruno N (6/5): - The property was spacious for our family. It was deathly hot as they do not have any air conditioning and it was 30 plus humidex. Despite that we enjoyed our stay. It was very 1980 ish retro style. Overall a nice stay but definitely could use new furnishings and a good reno. Bring towels as they do not provide them.
- Andy (10/5): - A perfect location to explore the Bruce. Great rate for a simple and comfortable room. We would return!
- Abdus Sami (10/5): - Janet is awesome 😊, property is super clean and gives friendly vibes. We would definitely visit again.
- Abby (2/5): - I stayed up all night because of the terribly mold smell of the room.
No air conditioning and a small fan. I keep the fan on all night tried to get the mold smell away. However despite of the fan and essential oil, the mold smell is still intense.
The room is small, no sunlight so it's explained the terribly moldy smell...
So painful and didn't even sleep for one hour
- Lini (2/5): - I like the back of the motel, it has a table there, and the view there is pretty good.
We booked two rooms, but the smell in the rooms was so bad, and the neighbour was pretty loud in the morning too.
- ARJUN (8/5): Good Stay - It was good stay overall. Simple and smooth altogether.
- parita (10/5): - We enjoyed staying at this motel. Good attitude and service of the staff. Thank you
- David (10/5): - Clean room and bed. Places to eat near by
- Roman (10/5): - We were very satisfied with our stay. Cozy place and friendly staff — everything was great!
- julie kim (6/5): - A step up from hostels, well below expectations for price.
- Richa (8/5): - The stay was good. Room was clean amd check in check out was very smooth. Janet guided us through every step
- Elizabeth (8/5): - There is no bar or restaurant in this hotel; we had to walk a block to the only restaurant in the area
- Chang (6/5): - Friendly hotel host but moldy smell in the room. We were on the first floor and whenever ppl upstairs walks, it sounded like they will break the ceiling and fall down
- michael (8/5): - Great for a quick stay
- Raihan (8/5): - Quiet area, stayed here while visiting tobermory. The walls are thin so you could hear some outside noise. Overall given the price it was a reasonable accommodation.
- Jin (10/5): - It was clean and quiet. The staff was very friendly. The motel is a good choice for a short stay of 1 to 3 nights. It could do better with some upgrades of the facilities.
- Lito (8/5): - Friendly and accommodating staff
- Fan (10/5): - Clean but outipdated
- Verified traveler (6/5): Few amenities for the price. - Quiet and clean but very outdated. No A/C, no microwave, no breakfast option, no front desk although Janet did text a self check in and out option.
For the price, the amenities are very few.
- bebot (10/5): - The property is cleaned and surroundings are quiet. Friendly owner
- Paul (8/5): - Great place to stop overnight in Ferndale, the rooms could use updating and A/C would be a great asset. But all in all it's a quaint little place, kept very clean and the owners are fantastic and offered great communication through the entire visit.
- urwashi (8/5): - Good lady at the front really helpfull , dine in restaurants nearby good too
- srikanth (6/5): - Checkin was good, response from staff was good!!! But my kid could not sleep because of bed bugs issue and the bed was also making creaking sound every time we had
changed our position while asleep. Limping chair and table were not safe to use. Overall had been below average experience.
- Patricia (2/5): - It was below standards. No A/C. Shower too small.
Bathroom too small.
Just a 1 star motel
- Shiva (8/5): - It worth it for the price.
- Rostyslav (10/5): - Easy to check-in, nice and calm location
- Jason (10/5): Great Little Local Motel - Fantastic service! This was a very local motel where we stayed one night in 2 rooms (out of the 4 available). This was a no frills stay in a quiet area, a reasonable drive from Tobermory. Great place to get a good night's sleep. The owner was so accommodating with our arrival, and the free parking was great.
- Evgeni (10/5): - Great motel for the money. Clean and has everything you need. staying as a family, we just wanted a place to sleep over night that clean and convenient. This hotel met all expectations.
- Cherna joy (10/5): - Nice to stay ... like the old school tv.. clean and quiet..janet is very helpful.. comfortable bed to sleep...
- Lori (8/5): - Lovely little motel- traditional house converted into a charming inn.
Check-in was easy, although unconventional. Room was small but not cramped- perfect for a 1-2 night stay.
Very clean, even if a little dated. Loved the rural setting- plenty of fun with the cows in the field behind the property!
Only ‘complaint’ was the water- very strong iron smell of the water made showering or teeth brushing unpleasant.
- aung aung (8/5): - reliable price
- Maria-Cinta (6/5): - Average room. It had a strong smell unfortunately.
- Morvarid (8/5): - The motel was nice, clean and quiet for a short trip of one night stay.
Janet, one of the staff, was super friendly and gave us lots of information about the area.
I recommend this motel as it’s very close to Tobermory around 30minutes and you can explore Lion’s Head as well.
- Joban (8/5): - Good
- Daniel (8/5): - didn't look like a motel, more like a house
- Sara (8/5): - Our overall experience was good and Janet is a great host.
I beleive we shouldnt expect too much from motels in the area, and we booked it just to sleep overnights since there's a lot to do in the area from beaches and hiking and it met our expectations.
- Diana (10/5): - Janet was so nice to accommodate us earlier than the check in time. She even phoned me to check where we were so.
She welcomed and oriented us around giving instructions and information that we needed to know.
Days prior to our stay, she messaged me just to communicate. Well Done!
* Rooms were so clean and organized.
* Kitchen is completely stacked with all the things you need from utensils to glasses
to plates, etc.
* It’s also equipped with all the kitchen appliances you need from coffee maker, toaster, microwave, fridge and even stove.
* I highly recommend this place!!!
- Mohammad (4/5): - No Aircondition, and you hear Noise from other rooms
- Cindy (10/5): - Petit motel très propre, calme et la propriétaire est extrêmement gentille, accueillante et a l'écoute. J'ai eu droit a l'appartement complet en haut du motel qui est très grand!
- Birgit (10/5): - The Northwinds was a last minute stay as we didn't get a reservation for the ferry in time. The room was small, lacked a hair blower and ac (had a large fan), was convenient to catch the ferry and visit Lion's Head beforehand. However, the desk staff was more than helpful! Very friendly with some helpful hints for dinner etc. It was a breeze checking in and would stay here in future if we are in the area.
- Thuc Anh (4/5): - Very noisy, no air conditioning, coffee machine broken. That was terrible night after a hiking day.
- Ruth (10/5): - Janet was very helpful when arranging check in and out. Room was somewhat dated, but very clean, comfortable and convenient.
- carol (10/5): - Good value and nice convenient place to stay.
- Ben (10/5): - Great experience. Would recommend.
- Janet (8/5): - It was clean and comfy
- Guo Ding (2/5): - There are small flying insects in the room that affect sleep.
- Vahid (6/5): - Very small bathroom. The coffee maker is in the washroom!
- Nathalie (8/5): - Good customer service
- Victor (10/5): - Nice and clean
- Dixitkumar Rameshbhai (10/5): - Good place to stay...quite and pleasant area in and outside too. Found safe 👌
Just go with ur own food coz there are very rare options available outside, specially for vegan people😉
- YIPING (10/5): - Nice service!
- Larry (10/5): - Janet was very welcoming and friendly - a genuinely nice person. The location was ideal for my walks on the Bruce Trail in the northern Bruce Peninsula. The room was very clean, and items such as coffee were supplied/renewed every day. I will definitely return to this motel to stay in for future Bruce Trail walks, and would highly recommend this facility to anyone else.
- Chi (8/5): - Its location is right on hwy 6. The location is a 5 star.
It is a short distance to many attractions.
- David (2/5): - Property appears to be a converted single family home poorly sectioned off with furnishing way below the level expected for the nightly price.
A phone on the exterior/outer wall of the building put you in contact with someone who explained to pull and push 'hard' on the outer door to get the door to open. Then we were told where the room key was 'hidden'. After our look around the accommodation (five minutes), my wife said we would not be staying. Locked the door and left the room key in the room. Used the outside phone to inform the listener that we would not be staying.
- John (10/5): Just the Basics - Just an overnight visit to Lions Head area & really only required a place to sleep. Northwinds was very welcoming, had all we required & reasonably priced. Perfect spot for our needs on this trip. 😁😁
- Mihir (10/5): - Nice property with low cost , clean, quiet, full of kitchen appliances. Best place to live for group of people.
You can enjoy sunrise at the back of the motel.
- Ling Hong (8/5): - It is closed to the highway 6, but I didn't realize it is a little far to the Bruce Peninsula National Park because the park is so big.
- John (8/5): - Nice location and reasonable; easy check in and out; room is ok; small shower and flat pillows.
- Spencer (8/5): - Older style bedding and tv that could use an update
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Check-in was fast. Room was clean. Lighting was dark. Beds were terrible.
- James (10/5): - Nothing fancy but a good place to stay when stopping through. The room was a decent size and the bed was nice and comfy. It's right on hwy 6 but with the window open at night (facing away from the road) it was still quiet and dark for a good nights sleep.
We got there later in the evening so Janet wasn't there when we arrived, but she contacted us to get us checked in and settled without issue
- Daniela (8/5): - Great location, very clean, easy check-in and lots of info & tips from the lovely manager. Really the only negative point was the beds weren’t very comfortable and were very squeaky - any tossing and turning was very noisy and kept us all up
- Verified traveler (6/5): July at Northwinds - The motel was clean, but very dated. The beds were lumpy and the bathroom was a tight squeeze but it had everything we needed. Everything was functional. There was no air conditioning but it was not a warm weekend so it wasn't needed.
- Cindy (6/5): - The room was clean and had the basic needs. It was quirky but provided mostly what was required.
- ted (8/5): - Close to the Bruce trail and Tobermory
- Patsy (8/5): - The room was clean. The owner was very nice. I would stay here again.
- Simranjit (10/5): - Really comfortable rooms
- Krista (8/5): - Easy stay, parking right out front, instructions for check in were clear and sent by text. Good food right across the street.
- Sandra (6/5): - It’s 30minutes to Bruce Peninsula National Park so location is good. All other hotels in the Tobermory area were sold out for the holiday weekend. It’s very basic. Clean enough but very old and run down. Room had a damp smell like wet laundry that has sat too long. Nice that it had a mini fridge, a fan, and a shared microwave. Also directly across the road from a good restaurant for breakfast.
- Debbie (4/5): - Run down, over priced.
- Barb (8/5): - The room was basic but very clean and well priced. Free parking and WIFI a definite plus. A glider rocker in the room was appreciated. The only real downside was the shower was extremely small. The employee who checked me in via phone was extremely helpful with information on nearby restaurants etc and pleasant. Would stay again.
- Allen (10/5): - Room got too dry at night; no other concerns.
- Wilhelmina (10/5): - Clean, spacious room. Checking was fast and efficient. Shower pressure is AMAZING!!! Felt like I was getting a hydro massage which is just what I needed after a 90km bike ride!
Beautiful view of the countryside at the back of the building.
Only cons was the Walls are a thin, you’re able to hear the conversations in the adjoining room.
No AC but the fan provided did the trick.
- Ofelia (8/5): - Host was very accommodating, comfortable stay but need a little fixing on the washroom, and some faucet. But overall, pleasant and good.
- lalaine (4/5): - very hot no ac, coffee machine on bathroom gross, dirty
- Vicky (8/5): Dated but comfortable - Communication was awesome with Janet, very sweet couple.
We arrived late in the evening, and no contact check in was seamless.
Room was clean, beds a little worn but was great for one night travelling.
The front porch where we were able to sit that evening was nostalgic.
No A/C but an oscillating fan was available to us.
- Victorina (10/5): - It’s a beautiful place and clean. Close to Lions head lookout and beach. Love to be back in the next summer. But one thing there’s no air conditioning. Only fan
- Kristy (4/5): - No AC....room was so hot
- Pedram (8/5): - Nice people, but very old building
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not worth a rating!!!! Disappointing!!! - The hotel offered the Breakfast, but it wasn't any breakfast inn the morning. No other staff on the site.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Older motel close to hwy .nice and quiet ,happy with a window view .there is coffe machine and mini fridge. good point to visit all nearby attractions
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It’s hard to find places available in the Bruce peninsula in the summer, and so relatively speaking Thai place was fine. The room was clean but had a very significant must/mold smell that exacerbated my partner’s asthma. Very basic, wouldn’t recommend a stay for more than a night on to somewhere else. We didn’t meet the owner, but she was very pleasant on the phone.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Amazing Customer Service!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The motel was OLD. Ancient furnishings ancient bathroom fixtures, the tv was at least 20 yrs old...the satellite had maybe 15 channels which barely worked...the microwave was a shared microwave in the hallway. Only one lamp. Even the bedding was really old....and the bed was as hard as a stone slab.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Lady who is running this place is great. Very friendly.
Things are uncomplicated. I will stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Your typical small-town motel. No A/C so keep that in mind if going up on a hot summer day!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The owner tries to make it clean, however should not be listed as anything…. Old , smells, fridge rusted and microwave at end of hall 😞
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good place to stay! Only a few mins drive to hiking spots and beach.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Could use upgraded TV. The TV was very old and we had a hard time getting it to turn on. It was a very old TV. The rest of the room was fine. It was very clean.
- Mithouna (6/5): Over price - It was over price and there's no microwave in the room, oh no shampoo as well.
Felt that they didnt wash/clean bedding in between guests.
No i won't come back
- Pranesh (8/5): - This place very much reachable to all the main destinations... This is well maintained motel. Its good for families too
- Tania (10/5): - Janet welcomed us warmly, and recommended where we could do some sightseeing. The room was very clean and cozy. Northwinds Motel gets a two thumbs up!
- Tony (8/5): - Location was great for my hiking and the room was clean...better sound proofing would have made it better, but overall, I was content.
- Nelia (4/5): - No Bathroom amenities and no AC. I want to recommend that they have to have those standard bathroom amenities like soap or body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Luckily, I brought those supplies myself.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Tres propre comme endroit, bien situé pour visiter les environs! Lit peu confortable
