• ROSALBA (6/5): - El hotel está lindo a secas, me tocó hospedarme en las habitaciones “sencilla” que por el precio que se hizo caro, deja mucho que desear, la habitación es muy pequeña y el armario es de cemento, como el de los hoteles baratos. Se dice ecológico y sustentable pero raya en lo precario. El servicio no es bueno, desde que llegamos el chico de seguridad te recibe con mala gana y en la noche salimos a cenar porque el restaurante lo cierran a las 6pm y al regresar (tipo 8:30) no había quien abriera y lo hicimos por nuestra cuenta y hasta entonces el guardia se acercó de muy mala gana. Los meseros y personal de mantenimiento no son serviciales, los camastros estaban súper sucios, las camas colgantes llenas de hormigas, para ordenar algo tienes que acercarte al restaurante-cocina y si no, recurrir al whatsapp donde siempre estaban atentos pero lo que quería era desconectarme. Otra cosa, el desayuno era incluido pero era continental, nos dieron un café negro, una rebanada de pan integral y 6 míseras rebanadas de fruta. Mi experiencia no fue buena dentro del hotel, me sentí estafada y no volvería a este lugar. Tiene muy buenas fotos pero insisto, por el precio, se espera un mejor lugar y sobretodo servicio.
• Alanna (10/5): Perfect place to wind down - Beautiful spot for a quiet, relaxing stop over. Comfortable rooms in the bamboo construction cabañas with heat pump air conditioners. Porch/balcony space with hammock & swing chair face the coconut grove before the beach- great sunrises. Nice pool with restaurant & bar serving local mariscos. Welcoming staff were very accommodating with my poor Castillan.

El servicio de restaurant cierra temprano. Y en cuanto a los desayunos ofrecidos en los paquetes si bien son continentales, sinceramente se ven bastante miserables ofreciendo un poco de fruta, café y solo un pedazo ínfimo de pan frio , yo tuve que pedir mantequilla aparte pero ni asi me lo comi.

• zosias940 (2/5): terrible service, roaches in the bathtub - I arrived at the hotel payed a room like the one advertised on IG the room they gave me at first had no privacy whatsoever. I was talking to a woman named Silvia which was somewhat rude she was taking her time while I waited soaking wet with the tropical heat with no room. they made me wait for 2 hours until finally I was able to talk to the sales rep who was understanding and nice. They changed my room I was able to enjoy from the pool for a while and when I went back to take a shower there where roaches in the tub, I went to the reception and again Silvia just offered some Raid, but not alarmed at all like if it was ok to have roaches in a tub. In the hotel rules it states that it’s not pet friendly so we didn’t take our dog, but when we arrived there was a dog they claimed wasn’t from the hotel ( I don’t mind dogs at all) in the hotel rules It also stated that you couldn’t bring food or drinks from outside next morning a large group arrived with 2 dogs and coolers with drinks and food... when I checked out they told me they where friends and family from the owner so they were allowed.... #1 It’s a shame that they have people like Silvia working in the hotel, cause the food at the restaurant is really good and the servers are super nice, the girl at reception is also very sweet. #2 they clearly don’t see clients as priority and That is really bugged me cause the hotel is actually really pretty but since we were treated like dirt even though we were paying. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay here...

• 647scarlettc (10/5): First Guests Post-COVID - Excellent job! - We were the very first guests at the Taboga Eco hotel upon their reopening due to the pandemic. Upon arrival, and the entire weekend, the owners and staff were working tirelessly to keep the entire resort clean. This started from when we got out of the car to check in, and they sprayed down our luggage, to the room, with all towels sealed in plastic, and continued throughout. Everything was extremely clean and safe. Aside from the care and dedication that was shown regarding cleanliness, we really enjoyed everything. The pool was nice and even though the government still had not opened the beach, we didn't really need to go out to the water because the view was lovely and we were able to eat our meals at a table overlooking the beach. This was our first trip to Veracruz and to be very clear, this is not a major resort area. If you are looking for a nightclub and a $15 dollar cocktail, this is not the location for you. However, we loved the slightly undeveloped feel and appreciated being in a location that wasn't overrun by spring breaker types like we see in Cancun. Having spent many years in Mexico, I have always heard that Veracruz was not a great vacation place, but the Taboga hotel was lovely and fully up to my standards, and it was so relaxing because we were close to nature and enjoyed beautiful scenery. Overall, I would definitely stay here again and highly commend the owners and staff. Such excellent service and you can tell when people really put their heart into what they do. This small hotel owner even paid her staff during the pandemic, so if that doesn't show passion and a well-run business, I don't know what does. Great job!

Si uno está en los camastros/hamacas de la playa, nunca aparecen los meseros, uno tiene que bajar hasta la cocina a pedir alimentos/bebidas.

Eso sí fue de muy mal gusto.
• Oscar (2/5): ¡TIENEN CHINCHES! - El día sábado 3 de agosto estuvimos en hotel. En fin para no hacer el cuento largo estuvimos todo el día fuera de la habitación, cuando volvimos para dormir me dí cuenta que había bichos en la cama!, que por cierto ya habían picado a mi esposa y cual fue nuestra sorpresa ¡eran chinches! Enseguida salí a recepción para que me dieran una solución y no había nadie así qué hablé con el vigilante después de explicarle entró al cuarto y dijo que eran "cucarachas" cosa que no era cierto (reitero tengo evidencia qué eran chinches) y se negaba a darnos el teléfono de la encargada por que "no estaba autorizado", a nosotros nos urgía resolverlo, minutos después llegó la encargada con otra mujer, vieron a los bichos y la encargada dijo "son polillas, es normal por la madera" le dije que esas no eran polillas. Ellas no querían aceptar que eran chinches. Al final nos ofrecieron cambiarnos de habitación pero pusimos la condición que revisaran todo y cada uno de los rincones, telas, colchón, toallas, baño TODO! nos tardamos más de media hora. Decidimos quedarnos sin embargo ya teníamos un mal sabor de boca e incomodidad. Regresamos decepcionados de un hotel que con tantas buenas críticas, nada barato tuviera chinches! CERO RECOMENDABLE.

• Beefsan (10/5): THE choice for a stay at Costa Esmeralda - The place is just fantastic. It's great for both a romantic couple stay as well as for a family retreat. Cottages are great bamboo houses and the two floor family cabañas are a delight; ample, romantic, fun for the kids, yet offering the parents a secluded space for reading, a drink, and romance. The grounds are week kept, clean and with great opportunities for children to play and adults to relax and lounge. The beach is black but great and very isolated so only used by hotel guests. Just a great place through and through - THE pick for a few days on Costa Esmeralda.
• beatab_11 (10/5): Great family boutique! - Loved this place and highly recommend for a family stay, even with small children. We have a 2 year old and 5 month old and we really enjoyed our stay here. Super family friendly hotel, even have a kids table and baby seats available (this is a BIG deal for families with small kids and not something readily available at smaller boutique hotels so we really really really appreciated it). There is a shallow section of the pool which is perfect for kids and they even have a trampoline. We got a room with A/C because our kids sweat abnormally in the tropical weather. Only gripe would be about food times -- would have loved to have breakfast start a bit earlier at 7 or 7:30. We understand it's tough to coordinate early start times with local employees but young kids tend to wake up around 6am and I know in our case, our son was already starving by 8am when food orders were just being taken. Other families that we talked to there agreed, some even had kids wake up at 5am (very normal with young kids). Other than that, thank you so much to the kind staff who made us feel so welcome and at home.
• 756andreig (10/5): Great place for a relaxed beach vacation - A very nice low-key hotel right on the beach. On a long stretch of pretty much empty sand beach, I should add. And, given the current highway map, this is, effectively, the closest beach to Mexico City with the sole and not very salubrious exception of Acapulco. Not much to do in the area otherwise. Ok, the Tajin ruins (among the most striking in Mexico) are less than an hour away - but it is hot for much of the day. Hot enough that you do not really want to be an hour away from the sea breeze. The towns in the vicinity are less than charming - Mexico is more fun in the mountains, where it is less hot, and so people have rarely created things of beauty on the shore (the city of Veracruz is, indeed charming - but it is 3 hours away on the narrow coastal road that doubles up as a major trunk road from Texas to Guatemala). But the beach is the beach (especially early in the morning or after 5 PM - day time the sun is dangerous there). The hotel itself is quite comfortable and has all that you would need to spend a few days relaxing. We were in one of the rooms with AC - they say that the "ecoloigical" rooms without AC are designed to be cool. May be - but the climate in those parts calls for an AC all the same. There are only too flaws I can think of. One is that the restaurant is on the expensive side (by Mexican standards) - you wind up spending more on food than on the hotel itself. If you have a car, you might want to go out for meals - though, given how hot it is, you might choose to stay right there anyway. Food is, actually, quite good, though the selection is shortish (the area is great both for seafood and cattle - hard to go bad with ingredients this good). They have no clue about bagels though, despite prominently featuring them on the menu - somebody with proper New York sense should be hired to fix that part. The other problem is the inconsistent internet. It is ok that wifi is not available in the rooms (actually, given our room location we frequently got the signal there - when there was a signal). But having it reliably in the parts of the property where it is advertised as existing would seem essential these days. No other serious complaints - a very nice place indeed.
• Sugy-Greg (10/5): Excellent weekend get away! - It is the perfect place to escape and relax for a couple of days. - The rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable. - The property is in perfect condition, just as advertised on the photos. - The food is really good and freshly made. - And the service is exceptional, the staff is very attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and we will definitely come back!
• fedenn2014 (10/5): Back to the basics. A beach of your own at a great value. - Taboga is a hotel located on a beautiful beach in the Gulf of Mexico. My wife and two babies (2 years old) stayed at a beautiful bamboo made room. Between our room and the beach there was only a simple garden where the kids could play; the beach was amazing (I didn't´t expected in the Gulf of México) with powder like sand and a nice sea where I could swim (I was told that during the summer the sea is very calm). Even though we were there on Easter Week, we saw almost no people walking on the beach. The rooms are basic but nice (get the ones built on bamboo); food was excellent! and the price amazing. We enjoyed not having AC nor tv in our room (just a nice fan).
• 313pedrol (8/5): Excellent hotel in paradise - They have like 15 rooms that have a graet view to the sea, loved the beds in the beach and hammocks. All the services you need and great bar service with all the liquords you want and desire. Great staff for such a Eco Boutique Hotel. Totaly recommend this place.
• ThayerL (10/5): The best in the area - Went for a short run away with my wife. Had been in other hotels in Costa Esmeralda, but didn't know this place. Nice, clean, good restaurant, very friendly staff. A section of the hotel, the "Eco rooms" are three buildings constructed with BAMBOO. Excellent work and design. Gardens are kept to perfection. Grass is green al around (a big task in that environment), and many trees. Pool is great for kids. The beach, clean and with comfortable mats and shaded. If you are planning on a weekend at the beach with or with out kids, and you run away from noise discos and so on, this is the place. I congratulate the architect or designer of the Bamboo construction. Excellent work!
• Ron-Woodcreek (10/5): Serenity on Costa Esmeralda - We just spent 3 nights at this hotel and it was everything other reviewers had promised and more. Great staff, lovely comfortable rooms - spotlessly kept, and miles of almost deserted beaches. The food at the restaurant was excellent - including the first time I have ever seen bagels on a menu in Mexico. They served a twist on Eggs Benedict - but use a bagel and some typical Mexican salsas instead of English muffins and hollandaise. Delicious. The whole huachinango in garlic is lovely. The cabanas with the hammocks are lovely and the hammocks will induce sleep the moment you get in. A bunch of day beds up by the beach are relaxing and romantic if you are so inclined. Massages at the beach in a palapa are available. We are already planning our next trip there.
• Faubourg136 (10/5): Relaxing long weekend in lovely hotel - This hotel is a little gem, off the beaten track, but just beautiful. We stayed for a long weekend with our kids and another family and everyone had such a great time. The hotel was full but felt so peaceful. The cabañas we had were fantastic - simple and clean with a wonderful sea view. Beach and pool are excellent. Kids also loved the trampoline and mini football pitch. Service in the restaurant is slow, but the food is very good. We even had an outdoor massage overlooking the beach. Bliss! Altogether, highly recommended.
• charlesmC251JY (10/5): Outstanding and Out-of-the-Way - Taboga is a glorious retreat on the Costa Esmeralda. The accommodations we stayed in were simple - no TV, just a bed and a shady balcony with a view of the ocean, a hammock, and an ocean breeze. Taboga has an excellent restaurant serving meals throughout the day. There is a pool with a cabana bar close at hand with very good margaritas and mojitos. The staff are friendly and efficient. Little English is spoken, but a bit of Spanish and good will go a long way! (We were the only English speaking guests at the time). The ruins at El Tajin are within reasonable driving distance, although you may not want to move from the beach or the well-manicured garden around the pool! A great experience!
• arleneNewYork (6/5): Good stop along coast - We were on our way from Veracruz to the archeological site El Tajin. We needed to break up the drive, and this was a perfect point, just north of the town of Casitas. Their website has good pictures of the rooms and grounds. They offer local tours and various water sports (all we did was lie on the beach under a canopy). Pros: - Clean - Food smelled and looked good but we didn't eat at the hotel - Whole wall of windows faced the pool and sea beyond - Pretty manicured grounds - Pool area attractive -Just a mile or so north of many small restaurants Cons: - No food or drink provided with cost of room and they forbid you to bring any food or drink in - No lifeguard or protected swimming area - Free parking - Although this is an eco-hotel, they have bright lights shining on the beach at night, which I would think is bad for wildlife. This strip along the coast is featured as a tourist area but be advised that in March the water is darn cold.

Just Great. - I always read these reviews thinking that they are just the owners impersonating other people, but I can say that I am just a random guy who used the recommendations from this site to book this hotel. With that being said, it is a fantastic little place for a getaway. The pool was great. The staff was fantastic and the food was wonderful. I was very happy to have stayed there. Thank you so much.
• Kereliza (10/5): A really beautiful place to relax - I spent five nights at Taboga with my mother and a friend. Perfection is the first word that springs to mind. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are all friendly, helpful and extremely hardworking. In particular, our waiters Victor and Carlos, who provided an excellent service and would even serve us drinks on the terrace outside our room. The hotel is full of nice little touches which contribute to a very relaxed atmosphere, including a trampoline, hammocks and - if you like animals - a friendly dog and cat. The food is excellent: fresh juices and milkshakes, plenty of seafood dishes and wonderful salads. Everything is reasonably priced too. All in all, I loved my stay at the Taboga. If you are looking for somewhere off the main tourist trail (I didn't meet any other foreign tourists during my stay) then Taboga is the place for you. We travelled by bus to Nautla from Veracruz (about 3 hours) then took a taxi to the hotel. On the way back we got a direct bus to Mexico City (8hrs). The kitchen staff even provided us with a packed lunch for the journey and arrived earlier than usual so we could have a quick coffee before our departure. Wonderful!
• sophieg302 (10/5): Paradise is here - I had the privilege to stay for a short trip at this hotel - and it was simply perfect. The staff was friendly, the place was neat and amazing, and the moment you arrive and see it all (the quiet beach, the perfect sea) will be a memory that you'll keep for a long time. If you have the chance, do discover the surroundings! I had a amazing time at Chachalacas on the sand dunes. This ecohotel has gotten great reviews and now i understand why. If you wish to unwind, it is the perfect place to do so.
• 123Cazzi123 (10/5): The most amazing place ever! - Myself and a friend stayed here recently for 8 nights. We hired a car a drove North for 2hrs ish from Veracruz airport which although sounded daunting was very simple and Taboga can easily be found without a sat nav as it is basically just one road (the 180) all the way up. The hotel was beautiful and very much off the regular tourist trapping route. The stunning clean beach was about a 20 meter walk from the hotel pool and so quiet that it almost felt we had booked into a hotel with a private beach! Being off the tourist track we were never bothered by people trying to sell us postcards etc, however it also meant that if you didn't speak Spanish then communicating in the area was a little challenging. A great bonus at this hotel was the manager is a native English speaker and many of the staff can also understand and/or use basic English terms. There are lots of things to do for the more sporty types, local attractions like El Tajin for the culture types and a beautiful setting for the pina colada by the pool types. I would recommend in particular taking the opportunity of getting a kitesurfing lesson from Omid who although an excellent kitesurfer himself is also a great teacher plus his rates are better than in the UK and the water is a lot warmer! I would also recommend a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) tour of the local mangroves with Omid. He has an excellent stock of new SUP kit and kite kit that is great, easy and safe to use. The day staff were also very welcoming, were always on-hand if we needed anything and the food was excellent every time and would be served at anytime thoughout the day. I would happily book into this hotel again and most definitely recommend it to anyone who is after a beautiful beach/sport/cultural holiday experience off the regular tourist route.
• SotnamD (10/5): Perfection! - Awsome place, whent there and didnt know what to expeact but i was blown away by the magical place, the great service and delicious food. I had the best kiteboarding setion i had in months Omid is fantastic teacher!
