- Mary (10/5): - This is my 7th time staying at the Slipway and it doesn’t disappoint. I do miss the supermarket that used to be located downstairs. I love the ocean views, sunsets, breakfast, and convenient access to shops and souvenirs. The restaurants - especially aroma Zanzibar and Thai Cano are delicious and the juice bar is an excellent touch. The Lido lounge and padel courts were a fun addition this year. I also enjoy the spa each time we come. Thank you to the consistent and wonderful staff. Asante!
- Claude (4/5): - Great place to stay. Beautiful atmosphere. Plenty to do. But I had a VERY BIG issue checking in. When checking in hotel did not have booking from Expedia. I showed proof of booking and gave me room for 1st night. But said they were full second night, so I had to talk to Expedia about it because I did not want to be without room second night. But was told to just wait. It ended up working out and hotel let me stay in room both nights. But having the extra stress was unfair to me .

- 385marteh (10/5): Another great stay! - Everything was nice and went according to plan. Again! Had a quick stop for one night and enjoyed my clean and nice room with a seaview. Spent some time at the pool with a chilled class og wine. (Did not swim because nobody seems to care about the rules and no one showers before getting in!) Had a sundowner in my room and dinner at Waterfront at night with friends. Good times! Next day i ordered breakfast to my room for a small fee But soooo worth it. All the staff Are friendly and service minded. I will be back in Dar i July and will with out dobt stay at Hotel Slipway! Can hardly wait! Asante sana for another great stay!
- Mandeville1322 (8/5): Relaxing and enjoyable stay. - Just an overnight stay here between transfer from Mafia to the flight home. Whilst we would have normally booked a "Airport" hotel it was great to have a trip through Dar in the dusk and morning, and the 40 minute journey was well worth it for the great hotel location overlooking the bay. We ate at the waterfront restaurant in the evening which had a good selection of food (both in price and range) and a pleasant busy environment. Breakfast was also taken and had a wide choice on offer and well supported by friendly staff. All in all a place to wind down before a long flight.

- 726Chris (8/5): Checkout time 10,00 in the morning drags down my review for Slipway Hotel Dar es Salaam - The rooms are comfy and clean, staff friendly and helpful, high quality food and lots of choice in a very nice surroundings. However this is the first hotel I have stayed at where checkout time is 10,00 and there’s a big minus and complaint from my side for that. I suggest you change this policy!!

It's a nice place to be, and I'm glad I stayed there. The hotel rooms themselves however, are nothing special at all. They're dated and not that clean. However, I think the price is fair. The staff allowed me to check-in early and check-out late at no cost which I'm grateful for. I would stay again.

- lindacQ8952WN (10/5): Our Wonderful Stays at Hotel Slipway - Our group of seven, family and friends, stayed at the Hotel Slipway. The Seaview rooms, services, food, and neighborhood location were excellent. We ate in the restaurants on the water and watched the sunset over the bay. The shops like the Green Room were exquisite. And being able to walk down the street to take the boat to a nearby island was wonderful. The hotel arranged for vans for our all day tour with a DAR friend, our travels around the city, and to early morning flights, even packing 7 bag breakfasts. Our friends who lived in TZ for over a decade always stayed here when in Dar. We all highly recommend staying here.

- 385marteh (10/5): I just keep coming back! - Finally back in Dar and of course i wanted to stay a few nights at Hotel Slipway like I always do when I have some time in Dar. Nice rooms, beautyful wievs, servicedminded staff. After a small understanding with som of the staff I also got an upgrade on ny room which made it a lot better for be as a guest. Breakfast was lovely as always! I will for sure come back and stay at Hotel Slipway!
- angelabN1750PE (2/5): Gone down a lot - This place has gone down a lot. After over 20 years of staying here on different occasions this time was definitely the last time. First I enquired about vacancy via their website contact form to which I never got a response. Then getting nervous I wrote a second enquiry about availability and prices to the reservation email. Hours later I got a confirmation of the booking (which I hadn't made so far). Already on checkin they proudly presented me with "my requested room" which wasn't the one I had asked for (they misread my email). Anyway, my request couldn't be accommodated (seaview/higher floor) so I stayed with what I was given. Very tired after about 20 hrs of travel. Then the live music started at the Thai restaurant. Meanwhile the fridge was rattling like a dala dala because there was so much ice build-up (see photo). I needed to pull out the fridge to reach the plug and while I was at it I defrosted the fridge over night. There was also a lot of noise harassment from reception area during the night. Seems to echo up the hallway. The next day they offered to shift to another room but I wasn't prepared to pack and unpack again. However, I should have (they could have given me a warning!) as the second night there was yet more live music, this time on the hotel terrace in front of my window. Full blast TV plus aircon could not drown the incredible noise until 23:00. They even slipped a paper under the door "sorry for inconvenience". That was two nights with hardly any chance of sleep. Asking for a late checkout (afternoon) to catch up with some much needed sleep before another 24 hrs of travel ahead just prompted very unpleasant and unprofessional communications with a nice but not very competent lady at reception. Supposedly no manager around (it's weekend?!). Then after yet another enquiry I was supposed to pay full price for a couple of hours extension, then was offered 10% discount on full rate, then was offered 80usd, then 60usd. Is this a bazaar? The lady at reception never got back at me (supposedly she phoned the room, however the phone never rang - maybe that's also not working? and why not send someone up if clearly the guest was waiting for an answer?). They need some training in communications and I can't believe there is no manager with decision making competence over the weekend?!? Zero goodwill shown after two nights of incredible party noise. It seems to be no problem to check in hours before regular checkin but there is no grace for checking out a few hours later. Not even after hotel related sleep deprivation. Now sitting in the hallway writing this review, the receptionist came with the phone....... manager wants to talk to me?!? Where was he/she during the last 24 hrs? Luckily there are many other good options in the area meanwhile but this experience leaves a very bitter taste after so many years of staying here.
- davidu46 (10/5): A nice place to stay in Dar Es Salam - We stayed at the Hotel Slipway for several nights during our travels in Tanzania. The rooms were comfortable and the location was perfect for us. We ate at the Beachfront restaurant and had a delicious meal while watching the sunset. The staff are friendly and accommodating. It was very nice to have same day laundry services available as we are traveling for several weeks. The hotel offers a free breakfast buffet which was delicious. Small shops located on the property were beautiful as well.Highly recommend this hotel.
- sabine (10/5): - This hotel in a colonial style typical of East Africa was just a gem. We were given a nice room, large enough and with all we could wish for. The staff as all Tanzanians were just the friendliest and most helpful, going out of their way to make our stay a delay. We felt cared for and appreciated. When we go back to Tanzania we will go back to Slipway. The area of the hotel offered everything the heart would enjoy on a vacation: Nice walks, good restaurants, little gift shops, clothing shops, cafes etc. Assante.
- Moochela (6/5): School trip - It was all going well until Sunday! On Sundays, they host a pool party, it starts at lunch and as I type it is still going on at 10pm. The noise is horrendous, to the point that it was not ok to sit in the room so we went out and came back at 9pm as we were told the music stops then. Well, it doesn't and despite many attempts, it is still going on. We were told the hotel is full so we couldn't be moved to another room so I guess we are not getting much sleep tonight. Apart from this, the hotel is fine; average, good location, food is decent and staff and friendly.

It's true there is music outside at night but with the AC on, I couldn't hear anything so it's not very high. Breakfast was OK. People were welcoming and accommodating. Overall, I recommend this hotel!

- John (6/5): - I’ve stayed in this hotel a few times and it’s usually reliable. This time however it was not and I had to move rooms several times due to various maintenance issues. Despite a recent renovation one of the buildings needs another round of repairs. The staff were helpful when I brought the issues to their attention but there doesn’t seem to be any senior management presence. The breakfast also badly needs an update. All rooms should have mosquito nets too.
- Kyung In (8/5): - I stayed in the standard room and the executive room with ocean view. Pros: Convenient location with restaurants, bars, and juice/coffee/tea shops. Live bands at the restaurants at night. The standard room was recently renovated. Cons: Wifi was spotty in the standard room. The air conditioner was installed at an odd spot, the closet was blocking most of the cold air coming out of it. The shower was not properly sealed, water leaked through the gaps. The sofa and the cushions were old and smelly, like they were never washed/cleaned. Both rooms were not ready past the check in time.
- Ophiuchusl (10/5): Highly recommend - Rooms are nicely done. Spacious, with a fridge and kettle. Decor is swahili style, very nice. Staff are very friendly and efficient. AC worked very well. The restaurant for breakfast is a nice big airy open area near the pool. The breakfast buffet is really good. The real bonus for Hotel Slipway is the location and concourse it is in. Lovely restaurants, coffee shops, retail outlets, pharmacy, carvings etc all available from within. Really like this place and stay here whenever I am in Dar. Prices are competeive too. 5 star facility really
- dsr_rfb (10/5): Relaxing and convenient - good food and rooms - A good way to end out 3-week safari to Tanzania. Great location, excellent food and service, nice room with very comfortable bed. Interesting shops nearby, both formal and informal. We enjoyed the Waterfront Restaurant for several meals, and liked the breakfast buffet as well.

From the moment we walked into Slipway. the staff were all welcoming and supportive. We checked in really late and Venant was extremely helpful and patient with us. During our stay, we had access to the shopping area and lovely bookstore! I will certainly be retuning here mostly for the service.

Rooms are very comfortable, big and very clean. AC is working perfectly and is very silent. Excellent pressure of water for a great shower. Good interent. Friendly staff. Excellent management. Very good value for money I can strongly reccomend it both for tourists and business stay
- helencW5118LP (6/5): Okay for a night's sleep - We only stayed here for approx. 8 hours to sleep before an early morning flight. The hotel looked okay in the dark and the receptionist who checked us in was very friendly. As we were leaving early in the morning she ordered breakfast boxes for us but unfortunately, these were not ready for us by the time we left. The room smelt musty and was a little dated but it was okay for a few hours sleep. We had a lovely meal at the Italian restaurant. The hotel site was very busy and noisy. Luckily we did not hear this in our room and had a decent night's sleep. The transfer vehicle was waiting when we arrived at reception in the morning. At this time the area outside was strewn with rocks and debris. We later found out a drink driver had crashed into the garden the evening before.

The restaurants outside the hotel plays music all day every day and shops and restaurants are busy with tourists and locals well into the wee hours. If someone is singing live then it will be extremely loud in the seaside rooms. When I checked in my room it had a strong urine smell. The carpet needs to be taken up and shouldn’t even be in hotel rooms on the beach. Nice atmosphere to be in overall but the older side of the hotel is very run down. There is a completely different section of rooms by the Hotel reception side which is a lot better and more quiet. The staff is very nice. Breakfast needs improvement.
- cookieham (6/5): Not as expected - We arrived at the slipway with the expectation of a 4 star hotel with decent facilities. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the suite room (smelled of smoke) and the facilities that were tired and dated. Very noisy air conditioning that forced us to turn off and have a poor nights sleep in the heat. Positives were the great seafood meal at the Waterfront restaurant overlooking the sea.
- Thinking_Bear (10/5): Great hotel, everything you need inside with a great view on the water - Great hotel right by the water, you can stay in the safe area around the hotel, and go shopping and eat at many restaurants along with walking on the sidewalk to watch the sunset or a quick boat ride to see the sunset. There’s no cars along the sidewalk around here so it’s safe to walk. Of course everything is very expensive here but it is a safe tourist area. The hotel is massive with a swimming pool, playground for kids, attach shopping mall, and many restaurants all within the complex. Rooms were comfortable and spacious and the staff were very friendly.

- Deanna (10/5): Fantastic Visit - Fantastic location, wonderful staff (shoutout to Freddy!) and wonderful amenities. I cannot say enough good things about the accommodations and staff at Slipway. Courteous, friendly and thoughtful. They assisted me at the bank across the courtyard, provided restaurant suggestions and arranged private transport and accompaniment for me to do some market shopping in the city. Excellent value for money. I look forward to staying again!

Locals come to watch the sunset in the evenings. The breakfast and dinner staff were knowledgeable and attentive. Kudos to Bhoke for exceptional customer service!

However, the staff was extraordinary and made sure my short stay was superb. They prepared a to-go breakfast for me due to said early departure which was extremely appreciated. All facilities were in excellent working order and I was grateful for the free bottled water. My only complaint was that there wasn’t a trashcan in the room so I had to leave all trash on the bathroom counter which wasn’t ideal. I was a bit worried that the nightlife would keep me away due to where the hotel is located but this wasn’t an issue. Would definitely recommend this place!
- Ephantus (4/5): Can do better. Poor shower room safety - The hotel has good exterior and good service, however the room we got does not have shower room safety. The shampoo and the shower gel are placed outside the shower room and you have to walk on the slippery floor to get them, In addition there is no shower curtain on the shower room so the splashes all the way below the door and into under the bed you have to call house keeping after shower to dry it. Then the overall final finish of the surface is still rough, on the sink, am sure with a good management they can do better.

Management might just want to refresh the furniture in the near future to keep up with the competition. Overall, great location, staff, restaurants, and experience. Will definitely be back!

- Akuwat (2/5): - We actually enjoyed our stay at this property. It was our experience after we left that has completely ruined the experience we had. I booked for 1 night, but once I arrived after asking for a later checkout the staff member told me you booked for 2 nights. I informed the staff member that I only booked for 1 night. But he insisted it was for 2 nights. We filled a registration form out based on their guidance. A day later they contacted us via WhatsApp and informed us that we stayed longer than we should have, we have charges that need to be paid. I told them exactly what happened but they continued to make me feel like I was the one who stole something from them. I asked them to take accountability for an error they made, but they completely denied everything. If we were supposed to checkout after 1 night, why didn’t anyone come to check why we didn’t check out at the checkout time after the 1st night? The staff member who messaged me used language to belittle me and what I was saying, they would not answer any of the questions I asked and they would not send me the reservation saying that it was for 2 nights from the night I checked in. I did not deny the reservation I made, I am more than willing to pay, but making your customer feel like they had bad intentions is a horrible horrible form of service. An Expedia agent agreed that the hotel made the mistake and that it was only based on their advice that we stayed. The hotel is beautiful, but be careful with the staff.
- Calvin (8/5): More for business than a holiday - The Hotel was very nice and has lots of shops and restuarants around it. These are very public and are not exclusively for guests. I was a little fooled by the photos as i thought it was a hotel with a beach. Not so. It is on the water edge but no beach swimming or bathing. The hotel has a nice swimming pool for guests and breakfast is taken in a nice setting. Choice of food for breakfast could be more but it was not bad at all. Rooms were very nice and quiet but not so scenic. Overall we were happy but the hotel is not situated such that it could be called a holiday destination
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice but beyond perfect - The location is the main positive point. The area is very clean and has several small shops and a few restaurants/bars/coffee places. All right at the sea however without really a beach that one can use. I booked an Executive room and would have expected to have at least a reasonable sized desk with real chair to work. Unfortunately the room does not provide that, therefore no clue why they call it Executive. Internet is ok and reasonably fast. There is a small balcony and rooms from level 2 and up have sea view. All is a bit dated, I had to smash my door to really close it. Several power outages during the night. Pool area is nice however not a lot of chairs and shade. Gym has sea view but small and A/C off, just windows open. That means a lot of sweating. Breakfast is ok but the selection a bit limited. The most I liked was the proximity to the bars and that you can be back to the room within a few steps.
- Peter (10/5): An Oasis in the City - Between the hotel, the surrounding shops & restaurants, as well as the ocean views, the Hotel Slipway is my go-to destination whenever I have a day or two passing through Dar. Sea view rooms in the new building come with balconies that are perfect for working or a little people watching. An afternoon by the pool is a great way to rest up before a long flight at night.

- Rodrigo (10/5): Great Location, Even Better View - Great Location and Great view. The hotel room with an ocean view is quite nice. Although is not very spacious it is more than enough for the time you will probably spend there. Things work in general quite fine. Nice bed and pillows, A/C, internet connection was much better than many other hotels I've tried in Dar. Also, because of its location, you have access to many other restaurants, shops and things to do/see within a very short distance.

I was denied the simple use of a iron. The receptionist had a terrible attitude. I was charged $10 for a replacement key after misplacing mine. The parking is not free as there is a person that changes you something every time you leave. The place is definitely NOT a four or five star hotel. It reminds me of somewhere my college class mates and I may rent during spring break. Maybe years ago it was in better condition but not anymore.

The hostess asked what would I'd like to eat, I replied the stack attack which advertised a few stacks of Pancakes with Bacon, I was welcomed with 4 crepes and not even a full piece of bacon, I asked the hostess what is this, she replied what I ordered, I then asked if I could have more bacon, she replied you want more bacon? So I was rather frustrated with breakfast.

ON MY ARRIVAL THE SHUTTLE DRIVER WENT TO THE WRONG AIRPORT. ON MY DEPARTURE HE DIDN'T SHOW UP AND I ALMOST MISSED MY FLIGHT HOME. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED THAT THE FRONT DESK MADE ME WAIT A HALF HOUR BEFORE GETTING ME A CAB TO THE AIRPORT.

Also some rooms at the end of the hallway are far from the wireless router and service can be spotty. Flip side is that there are fantastic restaurants footsteps away, a supermarket, and a pier that has boat tours of the area and sunset cruises. I would definitely stay here again I would just hope they would step up the room upkeep and modernize some of the furnishings oh and the TV Options are horrible but perhaps the sunset views make up for it.

Hotel was fine except if you want quietness need to go higher than the first floor as the restaurants outside do create noise with children running around and shouting. The terrace restaurant provide good food which was lovely to see.

So you dont feel stuck in a hotel but can enjoy different atmospheres and places. Hotel room is nice, quiet even if there are restaurants below it (I had the sea view, a must!)
