Guest Reviews
- Xueying (10/5): A life experience, highly recommend Jacamar lodge and Danny! - Danny was the best tour guide. He took good care of us and gave us the best jungle experience according to our needs. We saw so many different animals (sloth, baby alligator, piranhas, dolphins, birds, wolf spider, firefly and many others) during a short stay, thank you Danny! Didn’t got mosquito bites at the lodge at all, (but be prepared at night in the jungle🤫). Last but not the least, the food at the lodge was fresh and simply delicious (I tried some fancy restaurants at Cusco but I liked the food at the lodge more!)
- Karim (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent, rustic stay and our guides Christian and Segundo couldn't have been better! Very cool guys and they are legit one with nature they know EVERYTHING about the Amazon life.
The lodge itself is super cool - literally in the middle of the jungle. And the food is the best part of the stay, breakfast, lunch and dinner and they make sure you're never hungry!
Excellent stay, felt safe the entire time including the included transportation from the airport and back. Highly recommend Jacamar if you want to truly experience the Amazon of Peru.
- Orla (8/5): Great place to explore the Amazon jungle - Very enjoyable time and a memorable experience in the Amazon. Our tour guide, Adriel was friendly and had good English. He provided good information on the animals and fauna in the area. We also felt very safe with him as a guide whilst in the jungle and on the river. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were provided with big portions and tasty food options. We caught and ate Piranhas that were cooked nicely by Adriel. The company gave us the option to tailor our amazon rainforest experience. As requested, we got to swim in the Amazon river, see pink and grey dolphins and we did jungle Treks both day and night. We also got the chance to stargaze on the river at night which was amazing! We saw a range of animals such as alligators, sloths, monkeys, snakes, spiders, frogs, piranas, scorpions and many species of birds.
- Jonathan (10/5): Guides are awesome, comtact logge birectly fur butter prize. - Our guide Adriel was great!! You sleep in middle of the jungle. It’s a magical experience They tried to keep us away from talking to other people at the lodge. It turns out they paid less than half the price they have on booking. it is overpriced that way but we didn’t know this much and we felt ripped off. If you’re going, try to book directly with them
- Skanchibotla (8/5): Very good - Danny, Segundo and the team took care of me during the stay. it was really good.
- Silvio (10/5): Magical jungle stay full of activities and fantastic guide - After having stayed a night in Iquitos, I wanted to experience the jungle and decided to stay at a lodge. I am thrilled that I chose the Jacamar lodge - not necessarily for the lodge (basic and rustic accommodation, fairly priced), but because of the fantastic staff at the lodge and the amazing tour guide. I booked a night at the lodge, and was soon contacted to arrange a guide through the lodge (a must do, as it is difficult to explore independently).
My guide Christian knew the jungle inside out, spotted so many animals, was telling beautiful stories about the life in the jungle, and was very knowledgable about the plants and animals. In my two days in the jungle I did a jungle walk, night walk to spot reptiles (saw frogs, snakes, tarantulas, other spiders, bats, etc.), a 5:30 am sunset birdwatching cruise, dolphin spotting, and we went to a rescue center for monkeys rescued from the exotic animal trade. Please note that these were the activities that I wanted to do - Christian said from the beginning that I can chose what to do, and he will guide me. The activities were exceptional, but even the boat rides through the big and small rivers framed by dense forest, looking to spot animals and hearing about life in the jungle was magical.
The food at the lodge was very good. At the beginning they asked me about allergies and if I don't eat specifc things - I only eat fish and vegetarian food, and they cooked me great meals using the regional ingredients from the jungle. As it is a remote location, there was only electricity to charge from 6 till 9 pm. This was ok for me, as I was out most of the time and just needed to charge my phone during this time slot.
- Siobhan (10/5): Exceptional - My experience in the jungle with jacamar tours exceeded all of my expectations. It was truly an amazing experience. First I would like to say I am a solo traveler, and while I’m pretty well traveled I still wanted to be sure I could have a safe experience that would check all the boxes in terms of what is offered for the jungle tour. I picked Jacamar tours because it had good reviews and it looked well positioned on one of the tributaries off the Amazon river. I must say it did not disappoint! Shortly after I booked, Danny the tour guide reached out to me just to touch base and help gear me up. I truly appreciated that and it made me feel like I already had a connection and that I would go into the jungle knowing what I should do and bring. Make sure you bring bug spray and long sleeve shits/pants. With spray the bugs were not bad at all btw. After I arrived in Iquitos he met me that evening and it was really great to put a face to the name and discuss further what it would be like. As mentioned, you pay for the room and then the price for the tour guide is $50 per day. Also please remember that these people work incredibly hard and keep us safe out in the jungle. Without them we would not have this experience. So it is customary to leave a tip beyond the $50 per day that you pay for the tours, I chose to leave a very generous tip, it’s up to you but really think about how wonderful the experience is and try to tip as much as you can at the end. Also bear in mind that your tours are private and customized for what you want- you do not go on tours with a big group of people which is awesome. I cannot begin tor explain what a great price this is for a person that is literally from the jungle and stayed with me the whole time! He was so kind and knowledgeable- Danny truly made the experience more than I ever could have imagined. There was nothing I didn’t like. Obviously know it’s a rustic property but that’s why we are in the Amazon 😊😊
- Nancy (10/5): AMAZON JUNGLE EXPERIENCE - Danny our guide was great. Food was good, too. Nothing
- William (8/5): Jacamar Lodge provided an excellent Amazon experience. - Our guide, Dinni and our boat driver, Saudi, were excellent! All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating and seemed interested in making our experience at Jacamar enjoyable. The lodge itself is very basic and primitive, but certainly adequate for lodging and the food was good. Fresh fish and chicken were meal basics and the fruits and juices provides each time we returned from excursions were delicious. After fishing, our catch was cooked two different ways for our lunch. Dinni was very good at spotting wildlife and found monkeys every outing in the jungle, and pink dolphins in the river when we went out searching for them. He also tailored the outings to fit our interests providing very personalized service. The transfers from and returning to the airport were flawless and easy for us. Overall, an excellent experience. The water pressure in the shower is low, and the building standards are adequate. But, this is to be expected for the location! It's all part of the experience. The staff really makes up for any shortcomings in the accommodations.
- Joostie (9/5): Great experience in the amazon jungle! - Jacamar lodge is very well organised. Accomodation is nice, rooms cleaned, good meals and drinks. Also the tours in the jungle to spot birds, trees, dolphins, monkey's are well organized, but what you get to see obviously depends on the day and some luck. I certainly appreciated my stay, and the support from Jacamar lodge to pick me and my family up from my hotel and bring me back to my hotel in Iquitos. Scoring the accomodation is difficult since i have no way to compare this with similar accomodations. In any case, I think this accomadation is offering good value for money. great experience! Perhaps a bit more explanation from guides on animal life in the jungle. Be prepared that lodge has some expectation on tipping at the end of your stay. I personally find it difficult to figure out the right amount for tipping, and used 10% rule for my overall stay. Clearly, this place has no wifi or 4G connection. On your tours, you accosionally pass by a small jungle village, where there is 4G, and where you can quickly check up on emails.
- Douglas (10/5): Great stay! - Miguel was a fabulous guide at the lodge. Great outings and good food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location in the wildness. The staff are gentle and polite, especially our guide Francisco who is knowledgeable, caring and will do anything for his customers. He goes out of his way to fulfill his duties.
- Alex (8/5): Amazing experience - Stayed at Jacamar Lodge Expedition for three days and two nights. The service from Iquitos to the lodge was good and efficient, with helpful staff and good sturdy boats on the river. The lodge had a large sociable main dining room with a bar and all the rooms are protected with fly screen to stop the mosquitoes. The food was excellent, they don’t let you go hungry and vegetarians were catered for also. The best part of the trip has to be the guided tours and trips to see vairious things. The tour gides are so knowledgeable, helpful and spoke good English. Our gide was called Cristian and there didn’t seem to be anything about the amazon or its wildlife he didn’t know. Saw the pink river dolphin, swam in the Amazon, fished for piranha, spotted many birds monkeys and sloths and did jungle treks by day and night to see prehistoric birds, tree frogs, spiders, insects and more.
Fantastic experience overall!!
- rasha (2/5): DON'T STAY HERE, OWNERS ARE HORRIBLE. - Got to the agency on Tuesday and had been contacted prior to that was no where in those conversations informed that they only take Visa. Get there with my capital one Mastercard cards, which were accepted even in the Amazon's but not by them. So trying to figure out and call my bank to transfer between my savings and account, as the internet and service are bad, the guy Danny keeps pushing for us to stay one night in iquitos and go to lodge the next day. We decide ok. We'r text him later that night to confirm timing for pick up and he kept telling us he'll let's us know, never did. Called and text him the next morning and he text saying he cancelled my reservation. I said no worries and made another one. He then told me he had no rooms available. Mind you I made the reservation on hotels.com and it showed things available. He told us the OWNER of the large didn't want to rent us a lodge and that they had a family that he said yes to and couldn't say no to. Called hotels they called him and even he couldn't give them a reason as to why he couldn't rent a room that showed available out of 4. Hotel canceled my reservation so I wouldn't get charged as he wouldn't rent the lodge to me and my friends. Being two girls 30 and under from the us in a country we don't know this was the worst experience ever and the ejust place to deal with. The guy Danny was a horrible human being with crappy service and absolutely no hospitality. I wouldn't recommend this recommend this place to anyone
- David (8/5): Very cool experience but quite rustic. - I had a really great time at this lodge. There is a guide on-site at all times who, for an extra fee, takes you out on jungle tours, fishing and other types of adventures. It is worth mentioning, however, that this is not a luxurious environment. It felt like much more of a camping trip (which was fine because I love camping) than like staying in a hotel. There was also no hot water. Food was on par with the rest of my trip in Peru, and the people were very nice. It takes about 2.5hrs to get to the lodge from Iquitos, requiring two boats and a short walk. If you're a bit tough, then you will enjoy this place.
