Guest Reviews
- John (9/5): Perfect for a few days in Galle - Lovely place with excellent location, excellent breakfast and great spa massage Nothing
- Amelia (10/5): A beautiful stay in a perfect Galle Fort location with excellent breakfast, warm hospitality, and everything within easy - The location was perfect an easy walk to the Fort, shops, cafés, and everything you need nearby. The room was beautiful, and the breakfast options were excellent with plenty of choice each morning. I ate out for lunch and dinner so can’t comment on the other meals, but if breakfast is anything to go by, I’m sure they’d be great too. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and I had a really lovely stay overall.
- Erika (10/5): -
- Merguezz (8/5): -
- Graham (10/5): Excellent, would highly recommend. - Everything was excellent, location, staff/service, facilities, all were excellent. Room lacked lots of natural light, this is due to the building original architecture. But that’s our only “fault”.
- Docker (9/5): A central, comfortable and friendly place. - Very quiet and private despite its busy location Not much storage space for clothes.
- Rodney (10/5): Brilliant hotel - This is a lovely colonial hotel of the best quality . The staff are superb as is the food , the location is excellent with walking distance of all local attractions
- Jemima (10/5): This is an exceptional hotel on every level!! - Everything!
- Nouf (10/5): -
- Marine (10/5): Personnel incroyable - Tout Rien
- Simon (10/5): - Great location, rooms and staff Nothing not to like.

- cal (9/5): Fabulous location to explore galle fort - Fantastic location and food
Also hotel provided guided walk in morning which was superb Nothing
- Shelly (10/5): Simply amazing! - What a gem of place - it was amazing! Such a stunning hotel and in such a great location. We couldn't call out a single member of staff as frankly they were all incredibly friendly, helpful and simply couldn't do enough for us. The food in the hotel restaurant was also delicious. We also loved the extra touches on offer - afternoon tea as well as happy hour, all of which were complimentary, which was fantastic!! We would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely come back again Absolutely nothing!!
- Emma (9/5): Superb location for this 17th century heritage property - Brilliant location in this heritage property. Tastefully decorated in a contemporary style
Staff are friendly, helpful and professional Nothing we disliked
- Lucy (8/5): Fabulous if in your Budget - The property location is fabulous - right in the heart of the Fort. The rooms are newly renovated and excellent. There is even a lot of hot water and air conditioning actually was too cold when we arrived! The service was outstanding, and breakfast was good. It was NYC pricing. Our dinners over three days for three were over $3,000. The rooms were nice, but hot as nice as the price would dictate. The bathrooms were huge, but the rooms were not overly large. The pool was great but also not great for laps.
- matthew (6/5): Great pool and ambience. But too expensive for a dark damp room - Great location in town, great pool and spa (with female masseuses) The Twin Banyan room in which we stayed was dark and a bit damp. The grey polished concrete decor did not help.
- Doreen (10/5): A lovely boutique hotel within the fort walls. - All the staff were friendly and very attentive. The room was large and comfortable. The public areas were well decorated. The pool was fairly small but was a very peaceful and relaxing environment.
They have a complimentary early morning tour around the fort with a knowledgeable guide. Also complimentary afternoon tea, and pre-dinner drink and snack.
Enjoyed our stay. Would recommend and would definitely stay again.
- sonya (10/5): -
- Line (8/5): - Great location and lovely staff. Breakfasts were excellent too. it was a lovely experience. It is quite expensive for what is provided though - and they could have more board games in the library!
- Sarah (10/5): Amazing. - Fantastic property. Great pool and location. Really good option to stay right in heart of galle. Staff excellent. Small thing but bed needs a topper added to it as it was very firm and not very luxe for the price.
- Vinit (7/5): - Historic The rooms are too small and like a dorm room
- Thomas (8/5): Great place for a one-night stay to explore the Fort. - Great location. Good happy hour drinks. Friendly staff. Room and bathroom felt a bit sparse.
- Rachid (8/5): -
- victoria (10/5): - Fabulous hotel - friendly, professional staff, beautifully designed hotel and the best food we had in Galle. Excellent family room with separate kids bedroom to main bedroom. Nothing
- Alison (10/5): Truly exceptional hotel in a wonderful location - This was the most beautiful hotel we stayed in during our trip to Sri Lanka. It is out of this world the decor is exceptional old world charm with a modern chic twist. It has a bell in the room to press for champagne I mean what else does a girl need. The pool area was beautiful, tranquil and extremely comfortable. The staff were next level attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We ate here one night for dinner it was again exceptional and is a very popular restaurant in the town. The breakfast was à la carte and really outstanding. The location, right in the centre of the fort is perfect and if you stay in Galle you would not find anywhere better
- Roger (10/5): - Excellent location with really clean and comfortable rooms
The stall were all very helpful and accommodating- special thanks to Avi who’s a real star
Lovely pool area and terrific food and drink..
Free drinks in Happy Hour was another bonus..!! Nothing
- Maria João (9/5): Muito charme no meio do forte de Galle. - Quarto muito bonito, grande e confortável, tudo com muito charme.
Piscina excelente. Gostamos de tudo.
- Babette (10/5): Nice everything! - Nice staff, location, food, swimming pool Nothing
- SHIRLENE (8/5): Highly recommend if you want a special place to stay with great staff. Thank you - Great location and property. Lots of wonderful details and great staff. They go out of their way to make your stay special. Also loved the complimentary daily Happy Hour! Nothing
- francois (10/5): -
- Heulwen (10/5): - The breakfast was delicious with fruit, bread, pastries followed by an a la carte menu with plenty of choice. The hotel itself was beautifully decorated, very tasteful without being ostentatious. The pool was big enough for a hotel that only has 20 rooms with plenty of different seating options around the pool that were very comfortable. Despite being inside the very busy fort it was very private, no one overlooked our room or balcony and the pool was equally as private. We have stayed in 7 different hotels in Sri Lanka and by far the staff at The Bazaar were the best: friendly, polite, present but not overbearing. I could not have asked for more. I will 100% recommend this hotel.
- Fay (10/5): - Amazing all around
- Taryn (10/5): -
- Adelle (9/5): - Everything, from staff, service quality of room etc. all great Nothing
- Andre (10/5): Comfortable and refined property in an amazing location. - Great location in centre of Galle Fort. Very comfortable property, with excellent intuitive service. High level of attention to detail. Air con blowing a bit too cold and hard to control.
- Sara (10/5): Don’t hesitate. Just book ! Everything was fantastic ! - It was simply wonderful Nothing
- EVA (8/5): -
- Justin (9/5): -
- Carmen (10/5): Un 10 - Me gusto absolutamente todo del hotel. Personal de 10, desayuno increiblemente rico, habitacion preciosa, decorado con mucho gusto, piscina maravillosa. Todo perfecto Nada
- Kuruparan (10/5): -
- Kristie (9/5): -
- David (10/5): Was very happy with our stay and we shall be back there in the future. - The hotel was in a perfect location. It was extremely clean and quiet. The building kept a lot of its old traditional looks whilst combining modern furnishings. I have nothing bad to say about the property.
- Gary (10/5): Beautifully stylish Hotel in great location. Great breakfast and happy hour. Excellent pool. Staff couldn’t be more help - Beautifully stylish Hotel in great location. - Robert (8/5): Great stay at a great location in a very nice hotel - Very nice boutique hotel; excellent location. Beautiful design and nice atmosphere Check in took a long time; and once checked they immediately demanded payment; some of the staff were not so friendly
- sarah (10/5): It was our first stop on our first stay in Sri Lanka and I cannot recommend it enough. The food, the staff, the pool, th - The hotel is in a perfect location, right in the heart of things but also very quiet once you are inside. Everything was top quality. Nothing
- Ewan (9/5): - A beautiful property with lovely rooms, great food/drinks, and wonderfully friendly staff. Nothing negative
- Lesley (8/5): Great building in central location. - Beautiful communal spaces and great food. Fabulous service and a beautiful pool, right in the middle of the fort.
The suite is well worth the money.
- Fleming (7/5): Gorgeous place, with friendly staff in a good location - Beautifully setup. Late checkout Wifi was patchy. Room had a slight smell
- Jan (10/5): Oasis in Fort Galle - Fort Bazaar is perfectly located in the heart of Galle Fort. The rooms are spacious and stylish. The open, airy layout of the hotel is great and relaxing, especially also spacious pool area. The restaurant serves high-quality food with a great mix of local and international dishes.
- Laura (9/5): Superb -
- B (9/5): Superb - The hotel was in a prime location in Galle Fortress. The hotel was very tastefully decorated with wonderful friendly staff that were very keen to help. Delicious breakfast..Definitely would like to go back and stay there it’s wonderful.👍 Nothing in my opinion
- Anthony (10/5): Perfect would stay again. - Breakfast was amazing - staff were very helpful. Facilities were excellent

Loved the small touches and we were upgraded just because
- P (9/5): Superb -
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hannah (10/5): First hotel I’ve ever stayed in that had a button you can push for Champagne delivery. - Loved the room, with the Push for Champagne button. The pool is lovely and the sunbeds comfortable. High quality of food and staff are attentive. I did think it was on the expensive side
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (10/5): Perfect in every way. - Perfect in every way from the moment we arrived to when we left. Immaculate and comfortable rooms. Delicious food and pleasant staff. We liked everything!
- Wayne (10/5): Exceptional - Great experience and very good attention to detail and service was outstanding
- Kirsty (10/5): Fort Bazaar is exceptional, an 11 out of 10!! - This hotel is truly exceptional!! We were upgraded on arrival to an amazing suite. The facilities, service, staff and food were amazing with every detail covered.
We had booked for bed and breakfast and we also received complimentary afternoon tea and free drinks at happy hour. There was also a complimentary guided walk around Galle Fort which was so interesting.
- Frans (9/5): Superb - Staff was very helpful, beautiful rooms.
Everything was nice
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful hotel in great location. Staff were excellent in particular Sanjeewa Gamage. He was just so kind and courteous.
- Stanley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (9/5): Don’t stay anywhere else - Comfortable rooms, perhaps a little dark as they give onto an internal courtyard, but beautifully decorated. The pool is beautiful and the food is very good. The hotel location is perfect and they organise a guided tour in the morning which is excellent. The massages are very good too.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (10/5): Beautiful hotel, a real treat for a few days in Galle - Beautiful hotel in a great hotel to explore Galle. Right in the centre of the old fort. Nothing! Everything was great.
- Amelia (10/5): 100% recommend this hotel - Everything was perfect for 4 whole nights, from the breakfast, happy hour and dinner to the design, turn down service and bathrooms. The pool was wonderful to lounge around and fully enjoy the beautiful weather, and the hotel is in a perfect location to explore Galle Fort. Truly incredible service came from the general manager, Thuan, who helped us with something personal which really meant the world to us, but we had great service from everyone for our entire stay. Thank you Fort Bazaar, we will be back! Nothing :)
- Daniel (10/5): Perfect historical hotel in the old town of Galle. Everything is within walking distance. - we had a suite on top of the hotel with a big balcony and a good view on the street life. The room was big enough so we had a living corner with a couch and a saloon table. The bathroom was equiped with a shower and a bad tube. Very special was the "champagne botton", where you could order a glass of champagne from the room. The hotel opend its door mid December 24 after undergoing some renovation. The hotel is not big and the restaurant inside has a small capacity for about 30 people. So it can be loud, if there is a group of people in the restaurant and not just couples or families with their children. But you have always the choice to seat outside, under the veranda.
- Ron (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent situation.
- Rajani (10/5): Excellent -
- Alexandra (10/5): Beautiful place in every way - This place is seamless and standards are absolutely as expected from a property of this calibre. The rooms and common areas are immaculate and put together beautifully. Thoughtful details such as complimentary afternoon tea, happy hour in the bar and a la carte breakfast makes this place a cut above.
The pool area is a tasteful, calm and immaculate oasis in the middle of the bustling fort. Staff are top notch, fluent English speakers and aware of the customer service needs of their clientele. The property itself is stunning and carefully restored with original features throughout in keeping with the heritage regulations of the fort.
There is also a free guided tour/heritage walk of the fort with an expert archaeologist who has worked with planning permissions and renovating many of the buildings in recent years. It was a pleasure speaking with him and learning more about the unesco site.
Sugath the head chef came to speak with me personally when I requested more local Sri Lankan cuisine and made me an exquisite bespoke lunch which was the absolute highlight of my trip. Avi and Lihini also went above and beyond to ensure we had our comforts met. Thank you all!
We very much look forward to returning here on our next visit to Sri Lanka. Absolutely nothing
- Olivia (10/5): A tranquil, stylish spot in middle of Galle - Beautifully designed, service very smooth, gorgeous new pool and amazing massage!
- Mark (10/5): So good that I came back for another stay. - Hands down my favourite hotel in Sri Lanka. My experience at the hotel was so good that I changed my plans and stayed here twice during my trip.
The staff are so kind and helpful. Shout out to the chef, who treaded me to a special vegetarian Sri Lankan meal on my last night.
The rooms are great, from the free mini bar to the super comfy bed.
The new pool was big enough for me to have a proper swim to exercise, and there’s lots of spaces to relax, both indoors and out.
If ever I come back to Sri Lanka, staying here will be top of the list.
- Mark (9/5): Favourite stay in Sri Lanka - A beautifully designed space, warm and welcoming staff, great coffee, amazing pool, central location. The food is all delicious , but varying the veggie Sri Lankan food options between lunch and dinner would be great.
- Nikki (8/5): Beautiful hotel; very comfortable - Location, staff, pool and breakfast Expensive for Sri Lanka
- Rajini (10/5): Very comfortable - Located in the fort and was very convenient to get to places. Nothing
- Grigorios (6/5): Very high prices for that place - Location Food at dinner and high prices for accommodation .
Overpriced transfer to Colombo . They told us that this price is for a luxury type van and it was an old and not at all luxury. It was a common old van.
- Rahul (9/5): A Delightful Stay in the Heart of Galle Fort with Just One Miss - The Fort Bazaar in Galle truly exceeded my expectations in many ways. The suite is incredibly spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed, offering a luxurious retreat after exploring the historic fort area. The warm and friendly service provided by the staff made the stay even more enjoyable—they were attentive, accommodating, and always ready to assist. The breakfast offerings were excellent, with generous portions and a variety of delicious options to start the day. The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of Galle Fort, making it convenient to explore the area's attractions. I also appreciated the excellent communication, both pre-arrival and during the stay, via WhatsApp, which added a personal touch and made logistics seamless. Considering all these factors, the Fort Bazaar provides exceptional value for money. The only downside of my stay was the absence of a swimming pool. While the property offers a serene and relaxing environment, a pool would have been a fantastic addition to enhance the overall experience, especially in Galle's warm climate. Nevertheless, the outstanding service, comfort, and amenities more than made up for this one shortcoming, and I would highly recommend the Fort Bazaar to anyone visiting Galle.
- Jill (10/5): All in all one of our favourites in Sri Lanka - We love this hotel and have been back a few times.
The central location inside Gallé Fort is perfect, making it easy to walk anywhere. The rooms are lovely and quiet, and the interior decor is beautifully done. The place has an air of tranquility about it.
We love sitting on the veranda sipping a G&T and people watching 😍.
The hotel is beautifully appointed, the staff are really well trained, the service is excellent and the spa is lovely.
They also do some great seasonal offers. The only down sides to the hotel is that there is no pool - BUT they are opening one very soon 🎉 and the food in the restaurant in an evening can sometimes be a bit basic, but the breakfast is always plentiful and delicious.
- Emilia (9/5): Superb -
- Clara (10/5): Loved our stay in this stunning hotel, with Fred afternoon tea and cocktails! - LOVED it here! Gorgeous colonial era property with spacious rooms, beautiful courtyard and a restaurant on the veranda to watch the world go by.
Free afternoon tea between 3-4 and cocktail hour 5-6, were amazing. Also offer a free walking tour of Galle Fort, which was super informative. The little touches like a turndown and ‘push for champagne button’ added a touch of luxury. Staff were also super helpful and friendly. Mozzies, but that can’t be helped.
- Fredrikke (10/5): Beautiful hotel, the best staff, good food and location! - Nice breakfast, and good coffee. Best service we've ever had! Such nice staff, helping us with activities, transport and laundry. Nice with "room service" twice a day. Clean rooms, nice with new towels and robes. we loved it.
- Lori (10/5): Great place to stay when visiting Galle - I would HIGHLY recommend staying in the Fort area when visiting Galle. That being said, Fort Bazaar was the perfect place. Great service and perfect location. Bed and pillows were comfortable and shower pressure was great. Laundry service reasonable and same day. Good happy hour. Quiet for a good nights sleep. We booked a Double Bazaar Bedroom and it was a large room and only a few stairs (Room 12). The wifi was inconsistent. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt re:weather, as the two restaurants we visited that same day said their wifi wasn’t working either. By the time we left the wifi was working again.
- Osvaldo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melanie (9/5): stay or definitely eat here! - One of the original historic building of Galle Fort this beautiful hotel adds to the experience of a visit to this tiny heritage protected area.
The food is very very good, and the staff friendly and professional. Stop in for lunch or dinner or drinks on the verandah. It also has egg hoppers available for breakfast. N/A
