Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The lady is very nice.
The property need more utencils and better courtines.
- Brian (4/5): - Great location. No cups. Had to ask for cothangers. No coffee or tea making. Cold water inshower.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Host was amazing, she was a really good host and checked with me everyday -- if everything was Okay.
I ll come back again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Manager was very friendly and welcoming. Room was clean
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Rooms were very clean, mine smelled a bit smoky, no frills what so ever ! For what you pay, could've had an alarm clock, coffee maker, and hair dryer, wash cloths were like shop rags, towels were like sand paper.Rooms were decorated nicley, similar to a B&B.
- Nancy (8/5): Not fancy but convenient and comfortable - The hotel is maintained by two very hard-working women. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The manager was extremely personable and gave us good advice on where to go for breakfast and the best place to buy inexpensive souvenirs. The hotel was not fancy, but it was a great value and located very close to Acadia National Park. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a safe, reasonable, and convenient overnight stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was clean but there was a musty - closed up smell to the room
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was clean and affordable, but was missing some elements:
- no hooks for towels
- no info sheet on wifi info or property amenities
- no ice on property
- showerhead didn’t have good pressure and switch between shower and faucet became stuck, so couldn’t switch between the two
- housekeeping stopped by and replaced the towels but didn’t take the trash or provide more soap beyond the tiny bar included on Day 1
- proprietors weren’t very personable
- location loud due to noise from nearby highway
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The office closes at 8PM. We arrived after 8 and there was no one to help us. We had to sleep in the car.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room was better than I expected for a motel. Very cozy and clean. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Very convenient if you’re going to Arcadia National Park. It’s across from a small airport but the noise was never an issue because the tour planes only go out during the day. Over all great place to stay. Would defiantly visit again!!! <3
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great price near Bar Harbor and Acadia NP
The owner was extremely friendly. Loved talking to her
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Cheap place. You get what you pay for. Understand this.
- Karen (8/5): - Small room but very clean. Staff was very friendly!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - You can barely consider this a motel. Very bare ameneties... and extremely outdated rooms. Website claims to have renovated rooms. But ours looked straight out of the 80’s. Also staff seemed a bit disgruntled. Would not go back or recommend to anyone else.
- Nor/Maura (10/5): - Nice motel close to Acadia National park ....The room reminded us of a b& b but with out the breakfast....Thank you again !!!!
- Marlies (6/5): - Good location to Acadia national park. Motel is a reasonable price/quality ratio. Clean, but small room and not very comfortable. We were only 2 people in the family room, but I don't think it is spacious enough for 3 people to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly staff that were very helpful and accommodating
- Papa (10/5): Easy to get to Mt desert island - Delta delayed our flight which bumped us to the same flight a day later, I called to notify leona’s But since it was after noon they couldn’t refund us for the missed night, so be sure you call before noon if you need to alter your stay!
- Aleimarie (10/5): a good place to stay :) - good service, good area, excellent service and good location!! :)
- Bob (2/5): Tiny room close to free way - This motel has no phone to call if any question. You can hear the next door neighbor coughing, laughing, snoring even private conversation just like someone in your room. Noisy at night with no sound insulation and vehicles moving around in front of your room. So ear plug is a must. Room is so small, that once in the room, you can only sit on bed and no place to open your suitcase. The room no coffee maker, no closet, no hanger, no refrigerator; worst of all, no WIFI! No restaurant or cafe close by. So take/prepare everything necessary if you have to stay in this motel.
- Connie (8/5): Good location - This hotel is located in the middle of everthing. Room was small but nice and clean. Hostess was very nice. There is an airport across the road, but never bothered us and no flights at all after 8pm. Only thing I would change, it should have a pool.
- Paul (8/5): Nothing to be scared of. Good value. - I read the many reviews and hesitated to book - I need not have worried and had no problems at all. The price is reasonable (compared to anything you can find on the island) and the free shuttle bus service onto Mount Desert Island serves the campsite immediately opposite the motel. I arrived mid-morning and the owner, once roused was at pains to point out that she could not give me a room so early, which I did not expect anyway. Once I explained this, she quite happily checked me in and stored my bag and I was informed my room number and that the key would be in the room when I returned later in the day. Perfectly friendly and good service not less than you would expect. I enjoyed the island and arrived back later to find a very clean and comfortable room. I had to wait for some time for the shuttle service back to Bangor in the morning, and the owner came out to check that I was OK and had enjoyed my stay. Again, perfectly friendly. Just don't arrive with an attitude and you should find this motel a convenient and good value option, and no more or less friendly than any other.
- Leslie (10/5): small but nice - I arrived late and owner was very kind when I arrived. Very clean. Had the double bed room. Very nice like a bedroom with a bathroom.
Affordable.
- Andrea (8/5): Nice place - Didn't start off to well we were greeted in the parking lot with a rude "can I help you". However she did apologize and say she was having internet issues. Which meant we had no wifi to plan for our next day. The rooms were nice clean the bed was comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good location and cheap - Good location hotel. Relatively near Barr Harbor and Acadia. Easy to find. Good reception. Overall a relatively OK hotel for the money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): quiet hotel, no frills - this hotel was amazing. It is small and family run but clean and comfortable
- Jill (2/5): - We are staying at less expensive motels, but this one was not good.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Worst service ever - When we arrived, the owner said since it was not working hours yet, she couldn't answer any of our questions. But when we came back at 3pm, there still wasn't anyone. Her attitude was horrible. We also killed more than a hundred mosquitos in our room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very great stay - location was close to Acadia Park and Bar Harbor Cottage Street area!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very close to Acadia. - The room was good. It was clean. And very very convenient for Acadia. The owner was super friendly and helpful.
The wifi did not work in the room. And, the door to the room had two small glass panes at the top that let light in.
- Sendy (2/5): - The experience was very disappointing. The owner completely does not know how to deal with customers. If the reception says its going to be open, then be open, especially if you yell at paying customers for trying to check in early. If this place had a cancellation policy, we would have cancelled. This place has potential and could be great if the owner could get it together and be friendlier and act like she wants customers. I have been felt more disrespected and I have stayed in some places without running water, but they at least had better customer service.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good location. - It served its purpose, a place to sleep. Bathroom was small but functional.
- Karen (2/5): - Leona's was quiet even with the airport across the street. Pillow had seen better days. Way too much $ spent on decorating every where, too little concern with the quality of the towels and bedding.
- Ana (6/5): Ok experience - Close to Acadia National Park, other than that just a room to stay in at the end of your day.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Only unfriendly thing during 2+ weeks in Me. - Beautiful cool weather but NO window to open....stuffy. NO COFFEE in a.m. on premises. Staff person unfriendly and morose. Basically clean and decent mattress.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Please think twice before you move in. - Now we understand why they have the only available rooms left in the area. We arrived at the motel at noon to discuss about an early check-in, but their office was closed until 3pm. What we received from the host was not a warm greeting, but a harsh blame because we dragged our suitcases on the gravel path. We suddenly regretted to bring suitcases for our trip. When we got into the room, we found the beds were very large. But suddenly, a disgusting odor of sweat came out from the quilts on one of the beds. Thanks to our host, we, three people, had a chance to crowd on one bed. It is really a unforgettable trip.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Never had a worse experience. - You would think when you drive into someones motel and the owner is in the lot they would come over and greet you, but "oh my God" we were an hour before check-in. It was 2 p.m. and we had had a long hot ride through heavy traffic on a motorcycle and the last thing we wanted was for someone to be yelling at us across the parking lot to come back at 3 while she smoked cigarettes with a friend. She could have easily fulfilled the request to put some of our gear in our room early but decided to scold us about reading the fine print at Expedia. The room was already cleaned and ready. The sign on her empty office said someone will return at 9 a.m. and when I told her that sign was creepy she took offense and continued berating us for being the rudest people in the world. We spent 220 non refundable dollars and this woman cannot figure out that a sign that said come back at 9 in the morning and a phone number that was ignored is not disconcerting to someone hundreds of miles from home? Apparently it's all about her. So we were stuck staying there that night but left a night early. I am sure that if you want an inexpensive bed and do not have to deal with the owner you'll be fine. But this sucked for us.
- michael (4/5): Cheap sleep only hotel. - Cheap room. Clean. Air cond. NO FRILLS. No coffee Pot, no xtra pillows, no place to hang clothes, no wifi.
- Kevin (6/5): Affordable, but antiquated - Great location, just a mile from Mt. Desert Island. The room was clean, but whoever cleaned it didn't bother to look in the dresser drawers where someone left clothing. Old style TV, for some reason cable was disconnected, but worked once it was. Cell service poor(AT&T). Wifi not officially offered but available and weak signal. Owner not the friendliest and the motel office smelled like cigarette smoke. Believe it or not, NO ICE MACHINE.
- Iris (2/5): I've Never Felt So Mistreated By Staff in My Life - My boyfriend reserved a stay for 3 nights at Leona's Motel. We called ahead of time to inform the manager that we were going to be late. We were informed to call the manager's cellphone when we arrive. We did. She was SO rude! My boyfriend was chewing a piece of gum so she looks at him & says "That's a pet peeve of mine." Then she says that the room we had reserved will not be available for 3 nights. My boyfriend had questions about that & she ACCUSED him of having an attitude! After threatening us to not have us stay at the motel, she attempted to record our conversation using her cellphone. She ACCUSED my boyfriend of refusing to not sign the payment check! She told us to leave. We did. The WORST customer service I've EVER witnessed !
- Jeremy (6/5): Not bad for price - Quiet, old fashioned hotel. Was nice to recharge for a day
- pharmer (6/5): Bar Harbor Visit - Close enough to Bar Harbor for a comfortable stay. Rooms were clean with outdated old cathode ray TV's (but they worked). Satellite dish TV with very limited channels. Luckily it was olympics time and we were able to watch the games in the evenings. No soap or shampoo provided, as well as no facial tissues. But we used toilet paper instead. Sink is located outside the bathroom, which may be good or bad depending on your situation. Now that I think about it, most motels are set up this way. My wife was able to apply makeup and brush her hair etc while I took a shower.
Interestingly enough the owner has built a fire ring and a sort of picnic area where one can enjoy an evening campfire. Firewood is stacked near the tree line, but kindling is hard to come by. we improvised by using tree bark and some trash that had been left inside the fire ring to get our fire started. But it was fun once we got her going.
- Boris (2/5): Very rude owner refused to honor the reservation - Here is the short version of my saga. I made reservation online and then called the hotel to confirm it. The owner/manager could not take my name over the phone, could not find my reservation (her "system was down"), got really irritated when I asked about the cancellation policy ("why don't you cancel right now?") and when I asked to confirm that we had, indeed, two rooms with king beds, she said "I am telling you for the fifth time, yes!". I tried to find an alternative hotel but everything else was booked - so we went there.
The best part was still ahead: when we showed up, the four of use, she said "I remember you; we spoke on the phone, and I didn't like your attitude"?" I said "What attitude? If anything, you were rude to me." She said, "I don't think it's going to work out. I want you to leave." Just like that. I called the police, and they said that in Maine, any business can refuse service for no reason or for any reason. I don't know if the owner is unstable or whatever but I would not recommend her hotel: if you reserve it, you may not get a room if she doesn't like your tone/face/accent/who knows what. Besides, from reading the reviews by those who were lucky enough to score a room, it's not a big treat, either.
The owner shouldn't run a hotel or any other business where actual people are involved.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nicely maintained locally owned - Had a good experience
Leona's is a quaint local motel convenient to the bar harbor airport
- Andie (8/5): Nice hotel - Nice quiet little hotel. It's perfect for getting away from the city and experiencing the small town way of life. The staff was really nice and friendly. Only complaint was that there was no refrigerator.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Would not stay here again. - Unprofessional staff. Complained to you about other customers. Did not service our room. Room needs updating. Bed was comfortable but linen is mismatched.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice motel with picnic tables and fire pit on side which we used last nite we we're there . Audrey the manager was very friendly and told us about the area. We stayed at room 10 which was 2 bedroom suite and had separate bathrooms. From our bedroom you can also catch a awesome sunrise around 5am right out window.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room was serviceable and conveniently located for Acadia National Park.
- Mackenzie (4/5): Listen to my advice and do not stay here!! - I never post bad reviews about hotels because I'm a firm believer in that you get what you pay for. But please listen to me when I say don't stay here.
For starters, the room was EXTREMELY small-- by far the smallest room I've ever stayed in in my life. That's not really a huge deal, but when you don't get wifi or cable TV with the room, a small room becomes that much more unappealing. The comforter on the bed and the pillows themselves smelled like sweat, which made it feel really disgusting to sleep in. Overall the room was pretty clean, and the bathroom seemed clean which was a bonus I guess.
Additionally, the owner was extremely rude to my husband upon check in and made us wait a good 20 minutes to come help us after she told us "I'll be right down." My husband and I purposely got up early and stayed out late just to avoid spending time in the room. They also do not allow dogs as they say on their Expedia page.
If you're not planning to spend any time in your room whatsoever during your trip, I guess staying here would work, but if you want somewhere to go relax during the day, this isn't the place.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We were not given the room that I reserved. My kids had to share a twin bed.
