- Sally (10/5): Fabulous trip! - Friendly staff. Great food.
- MrHappyTravels (10/5): Great Experience! - Great experience seeing the dolphins and getting up close with them. The handlers are very knowledgeable and friendly. This is a must experience if you're in Roatan and have never done it. They also have a very nice and quite large gift shop on the property.

- viviantQ1975KP (8/5): Divers' paradise but need new leader for Diving center - It's a divers' paradise. But I went there for snorkeling. The bad weather was a big part of my not so good experience. The Monday Maya Key snorkeling was the best. Tuesday morning it was pouring rain before 8.30, I should take it as a warning sign from God. But the diving centre told me they would go to the other side which would be a lot calmer. There was nothing but calm. We had first 40 minutes sun then all went down to hell. The visibility was low during pouring rain, water was cold, very wavy, I felt sick n returned to the boat earlier. The captain saw me sick liked a dog. And they still went to second spot under pouring rain, big wave. The boat was rocking left n right. I had to hold on to my chair... The guide refused to go to water n the captain had to take the group down. Some of them couldn't come up to the boat because it was rocking left and right. I was suffered from motion sickness for 3 days after that. To the diving center, $35 is more important than a guest health... Everyone worked very hard to build a reputation but ruined by the irresponsibility of a dive centre. The accommodation is 4 star, the bed is comfortable, but no phone, no room service, rain or shine you had to take the water taxi to the other side...if you are healthy, it's Okey. If you suffered from motion sickness for 3 days n still had to take a boat ride, you would feel dizzy even by just looking at the water...Food was good except for breakfast. I had omelet for 7 days...It's the food and the staff make the resort 4.5 star...
Suggest resort to provide towels and collect them at the end of the snorkeling so guests don't have to drag the water dripping towel back to resort, especially if you had to take a bus ride back..
I won't recommend anyone has health issues to go there... I didn't see any hospital near by...
Roatan must receive millions of tourists each year. But no infrastructure, I didn't any big hospital near by... very primitive, I was shocked by the proverty...
I heard lots of negative comments re airport immigration.. but my experience was good. I never had to wait long for both arrival and departure...
- Alberto (10/5): - El personal es muy atento y servicial. El Cayo es espectacular, una joya de la naturaleza. Muy limpio y organizado. Esperamos poder volver pronto.
- SHERIM532 (10/5): A premium experience without the premium price. - I was here in January 2025 and again in December 2025. Already have reservations for March 2026. Why so many times? Because of professionals like Marcus!! Marcus is personable, knowledgeable and provides premium snorkeling. What a gift!!
Anthony’s key has great staff all around. The waiters in the restaurant are fantastic.
Well run. An island paradise! Settle in and enjoy the wonderful snorkeling and sunsets!
- lindarC729ZB (10/5): Once in a lifetime experience - I went for the dolphin swim and snorkeling and it was absolutely amazing I got to swim with the dolphins and play with them I would recommend this to everyone I had the most amazing time. The trainer Jason introduced us to Sandy who is the prettiest dolphin he was very knowledgeable and informative. This was a once in a lifetime experience
- heathermD4371CR (10/5): 100% Recommended - The dolphin snorkel and swim was incredible!!! We have done other dolphin excursions. None of them come close to how amazing this one was! Jason did a great job teaching us about dolphins. Our dolphin, Sandy, was wonderful! She posed for some pictures with us. Pricing for the pictures was very very reasonable - $45 for digital copies of all photos. We pad more than double that for the photos at another location last year. After learning about dolphins, we had 30 minutes to snorkel and swim with them!! AMAZING!! A few of them played with my husband - passing sea grass back and forth. Swimming with him. AMAZING!! To say this excursion was worth the cost would be a huge understatement! This will likely be the only excursion we ever do when we go to Roatan. It was such an awesome experience!
- brandonbZ9987AB (10/5): We should have come here sooner! - What an amazing experience! This was our first time staying at a dedicated dive resort but we've been looking at Anthony's Key Resort for years as an option/possibility. My wife and I travel 2-3x a year for scuba diving and decided to give Anthony's a shot -- and we were certainly NOT disappointed! We loved it so much that we're already planning our next visit!
Caveat up front -- we're kinda snobby when it comes to accommodations and service, so please keep that in mind as you read this. We could have gone "cheaper" but glad we didn't -- this trip was certainly worth the splurge.
From reservations, to pre-travel planning, to pick-up, to arrival & check-in, to the dive operations, food, service, quiet and tranquility, problem resolution -- we were absolutely spoiled with Anthony's staff and facilities.
We arrived to the fastest check-in we've ever experienced followed by a fresh welcome drink and delicious panini or burger, and the most efficient resort brief I think we've even experienced (was about 5 min!). Luggage was delivered almost as fast as we arrived. The one small inconvenience we suffered at check-in (A/C had frozen up) was immediately fixed and Alex from Maintenance stayed there until it was working well - That's Dedication! The rest of the stay progressed splendidly and Yolanda (GM) runs a tight ship. The only complaint that we could muster was that the food was TOO GOOD and we ate too much!
We stayed in one of two premium suites on the property and it was absolutely perfect. They have not only tastefully integrated the decor with the beautiful location, but also thought of everything, from snacks and water, to the full-size coffee pot, plenty of fresh local ground coffee, reuseable filter, and the stocked mini-fridge. The cabin was a bit of a walk to get to the water taxi, etc., but we enjoyed the stroll and the quiet and the walk was certainly offset by the amazing location on/over the water. Bedding was fantastic, the room clean and cool, the bathroom wasn't cramped and the thought they put into every little detail like charging stations (with USB-C PD plugs!) on the end tables and a large power tower for charging camera gear, etc. really demonstrated that Anthony's really cares about their guests. Sherry from Housekeeping timed her services well and the room was sparkling when we returned from our morning dives.
The diving operation was Top Notch, Kevin runs it smooth and organized, and our DM John and Capt Richard did everything they could to make our dive trip enjoyable - including some delicious fresh lionfish ceviche with fresh plantain chips! Though the weather didn't cooperate most of the trip (we were in the rainy season), we loved the crew and the team of no-longer-strangers we dove with. Matter of fact, they thoughtfully put us with an appropriate group of advanced divers -- we're glad we weren't on the "other" boats but I'm sure those were skill/experience appropriate as well. We opted for the 12-dive package (each) with Nitrox, and we're glad we did because diving 3x+/ day for 6 days would have been too much for us.
The restaurant crew was amazing as well. Quick, friendly, attentive service with cheerful banter and a true "family" atmosphere overlooking the water and enjoying both sunrise and sunsets. We loved the Ankor Grill and especially our servers Brandon, Quincy, Wessley, Fernando, Sony, Erick, Ebanks, Edgar, and especially Perry made each meal better than the last. The dining experience was nothing short of amazing, drinks were strong and well-presented, and overall we never felt rushed -- but Oh Lord we were FULL. Even skipped a few meals because we weren't hungry!
Can't forget the water taxi crew... Kevin and Steven sit out on that boat day & night ferrying passengers back & forth from the island to the dock, but never once did I see a complaint or irritation on their face even with driving rain or blazing sun. It was a pleasure to chat with them for the 2-3 min boat ride each time. There is also an army of employees that work behind the scenes to make each guest's experience wonderful and all of it well led by a core group of managers that truly show their expertise in running a nearly flawless operation.
A few tips I can share that we thought of during our trip:
1) Dress clothes not needed... that was a plus. We dove almost every day too, so a full-size resort-appropriate hygiene kit isn't necessary. They provide reef-safe shampoo/conditioner/body wash so you don't need to bring your own.
2) Bug spray and possibly a small Thermacell is a good idea, especially if you plan on sitting on your deck/balcony around sunset. We used both Cactus Juice and a Thermacell and bites were infrequent.
3) Bring good walking sandals (we had two pair & swapped when they were wet/dirty)
4) The in-room full-size coffee pot (premium suite) and coffee service (grounds, etc.) was the best we've had at a hotel/resort... EVER. Huge Win.
5) Charging ports & plugs are plentiful all throughout the room. We didn't need the extra extension/power ports we brought.
6) Bring extra water bottles (we brought 2x 1.5L and 2x 1L, plus insulated tumblers) - those came in handy. We rotated the fridge space to keep water chilled and only had to refill about once a day at the water "hut." There is a 1L carafe in the room for refilling as well.
7) Eat smart... we ended up eating TOO MUCH and had to dial it back the last few days because we were so full!
Overall, we felt like VIP guests the entire time we were there, and the familial atmosphere ensured we weren't treated as "just another guest." The smiles, conversations, and overall feeling of welcomeness is what we'll remember most... until the next time we visit!
- RumJumbie (10/5): Our Brief Visit Made Us All Want to Return for Longer - Sadly, we only got to spend a few hours at this paradise. We booked a private trip from our cruise ship to this resort to spend a few hours, get spa treatments and just relax. The beauty of this resort is top notch and the staff was super friendly and helpful, even giving us a thorough tour after our time at the spa and having beers by the pool. It certainly made us want to return and to spend some time staying at the resort.
- 141russm (10/5): Off the Charts good! - Anthony’s Key Resort far exceeded our expectations. The rooms, restaurants, and diving were all top quality. Our Divemaster Marvin and Boat Capt Richard went above and beyond taking care of all aspects of our diving experience. We cannot express how good Anthony’s Key Resort is. I would highly recommend the resort to all.
- GeoScubaFun (8/5): Good, but not Great - My husband and I have been going on scuba vacations for about eight years now, and while I did research in preparation for every new trip, Anthony‘s Key always showed up in the recommendations, so when it finally came time for us to go ourselves, we were very excited. For reference, this was our 13th Caribbean scuba vacation. I’m sad to say that it did not live up to the five star reviews. The island of Roatan itself is not exceptionally welcoming. The roads are not great and the shopping / dining areas are dingy and crowded. You need a car if you want to do any exploring on your own, but finding parking anywhere is exceptionally difficult. Anthony’s Key resort itself is very clean and undoubtedly beautiful. But again, everything feels a little tight. We often just barely had space to park our rental car in their small lot. All of the resort buildings are in a straight line at the waterfront, with a narrow boardwalk in front of them. The key itself is lovely, but again, it feels tight. You get to it via a 30 second boat ride, which had been a concern for me before going, but which turned out to be seamless for our entire stay. The room, as well, was smaller than we are used to. It had two beds, and a small desk, along with a coffee machine on a table, but that was it. There is no kitchenette. There is no sofa. And though there is a lovely porch outside, the bugs were so vicious we never were able to really enjoy it. And to be honest, they sell the rooms on the key as being directly over the water, but our porch was at least 30 feet from the ocean. There was a field of iron shore between us and the water. I had really been looking forward to being directly on the water and that didn’t happen.
The restaurant was great. We ate there for breakfast and lunch every day, trying pretty much everything on the menu, and everything was delicious. The service as well was fantastic. We only had one dinner at the resort and it was OK, but not of the same caliber as the restaurants that we went to elsewhere on the island.
Overall, the resort is perfectly nice, but it just didn’t give us the same “vacationing in paradise“ feeling that we got on Grand Cayman, Bonaire, Curaçao, Turks and Caicos, etc.
- steadyhand16 (10/5): Will go again! - Our trip to Anthony's was stellar. We spent New Years on the island, but the holiday schedule did not disrupt the excellent service by the friendly and accommodating staff. And I can't say enough about how Kevin runs the dive shop - the perfect combination of low key and organized competence. And of course the diving was amazing! We can't wait to go back.
- P4946VDdavidc (10/5): Wonderful Resort, Great Diving, and friendly People - Just returned from a week at this fine resort. I visited here many years ago, and the new Reception / Bar / Restaurant area is top notch and very beautiful. The food and menu selections were one of the best in 30 years of resort diving vacations! Kudos to the staff there; Steven, Stanley, Erick, Felipe, Wessley, Morrison and a young lady just starting out.
The reception staff was very kind, led by Yolanda, who greeted us warmly and gave us the tour. She even had sandwiches prepared for those late afternoon arrivals who likely did not have lunch.
The bar staff was very nice too. Thanks to Timmy, Kilvin, LoLo Kevin, and Edgar, who treated us very well.
The rooms are fairly new, roomy, and surround the Key, with spacious decks, that have hammocks and a clothesline for gear. Comfy beds, and plenty of hot water! They just need a t.v. for nighttime viewing.
The dive operation was very nice, and Kevin and his staff were great. I see they have a seperate page for comments.
There is a large gift shop, a photo studio, and a snack shop all on property.
Overall a great time, we will be back!
- Kimbalabala (10/5): Beautiful, well-run dive resort - we'll be back! - If there were Anthony's Key resorts around the world I would try to hit each one! This place is so well run - it's incredible. The rooms are comfortable but not fancy. The dive operation runs like a well-oiled machine. They have an easy and efficient process set up for divers to check their own nitrox tanks to prepare the crew to put them on the boats. If you forget what dive site you visited on a day don't worry, they have a QR code you can scan that will take you to a site that has recorded every dive, by date and boat, for the entire operation. LOVED this feature. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly/helpful. The food is great - seriously, very good good with enough variety to keep us happy. This was our second time at AKR - the first was February of 2020, right before covid and before their remodel. The first time we stayed on the key and this time we stayed on the hill. Both are great.
The reef is in rough shape, but AKR can't do anything about that. The DMs helped us find enough macro to keep us happy, even in the absence of an abundance of marine life. I finally got a decent picture of a yellow head jawfish with eggs!! What a treat!!!
- earlbJ8605QY (10/5): Dolphin Action Swim - We went to the resort for the Dolphin Action Swim and had a wonderful time. The resort staff and trainers were very friendly and helpful. The time with the dolphins was amazing. We were presented with a lot of information about dolphins and the interactions with them was great fun.
- brooklynlion (6/5): Expensive and dive crew making inappropriate political comments - Let’s begin with the good. Diving as such was excellent: nice wrecks, wonderful swim- throughs, good visibility, relatively light currents. Food was much better than the last time I visited the resort (about 23 years ago). Room was nice as far as bed comfort and air conditioner were concerned. Resort is also doing a great job controlling mosquitoes.
Let’s move on to: Could be better. To have a la carte restaurant at dive resort creates unnecessary issues. As a diver I like to eat quickly. Buffet style would have been more conducive in speed and amount. There’s no water cooler in the room and you have to fill up water pitcher from the outside cooler. There was only one on the hill side, and ice machine was way down by the dive shop.
The Bad. Dive boats didn’t provide water cups. Unless you brought your own water container you would have to purchase one from the gift shop. This to me is nothing more than an attempt to make an extra buck! This is the first time I’ve been on a dive boat that didn’t provide water receptacle. Incidentally, the shop and extras were very expensive.
Dive briefings could have been better, and certain procedures during night dives were outright wrong and even dangerous! Divemaster constantly swam too far ahead of the group. Few times at the conclusion of the dive I had to wait for the boat driver to take my camera because he didn’t realize I surfaced.
Now we come to the Ugly. One boat driver made what I thought was a very inappropriate joke concerning our current US President. It so happened that the diver he was talking to was from one of the bluest states in the country and very anti-President. These things should be talked in private. I was very offended by this. I would never publicly say anything bad about Honduras President (although I have plenty of ammunition) because it is simply not right. I chose not to say anything, but use money as a solution: this comment ended up costing him and his fellow workers tips that I would have otherwise left. Words have consequences.
- 10CRB10 (8/5): Watch out for the expensive resort fee-charged on top of room fee - Great resort, great staff, good food, but they are the most expensive on the island-- resort fee is very expensive and above the norm and not advertized in the room fee.
- kibbem (10/5): Premier diet destination in the Bay Islands up Honduras. Cadillac service and setting. - Anthony’s key resort is premier diving resort in the Bay Islands of Honduras. Just completed my visit and plan to aim for my 10th by 2029.
Staff are known for their Honduran hospitality. Great food and dining atmosphere. Excellent service from the dive shop and well-maintained, dive boats.
Dive staff were great. We had Nico as our dive master and JoJo as our captain.
Really enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back next year.
- SONIA (10/5): -
- Lisette Marie (10/5): - Thank you all for a gorgeous unbelievable stay at Anthony Keys Resort! Gizmo and Georgie made me so HAPPY! I loved swimming with them. The staff is so wonderful. I will go back to visit for sure. --Lisi
- Travelbug800 (10/5): Fantastic experience, Highly recommended! - We went to the resort for the swimming with dolphins and had a fantastic experience! The staff were friendly, helpful and personable while still remaining professional. We learned a lot about the dolphins and got to experience something we never would have imagined! We also did the snorkeling rather than just the encounter and highly recommend both! The encounter gives you great information and a great experience with great photos, when snorkeling you can play with the dolphins.
- Bearrp3 (10/5): Spa shore excursion - We booked the spa excursion through shore excursion group and it was great. Nice massage and clean pool with friendly staff. Bartender was great, not knowing when we placed a food order he actually had to go across with the small ferry boat to put the order in, wait for it and bring it back. They really should have a order system either on a computer or atleast phone it it, however it didn't take any longer to get our food than if we would have went to a restaurant. He made great drinks and good conversation. We are definitely looking into coming for a longer visit.
- lauriek755 (10/5): Best resort for scuba divers and snorkelers - If you want to scuba dive and/or snorkel, this resort is for you! Everything is taken care of: the diving, snorkeling, all your meals, pool, transportation to and from the airport.. This was such an easy vacation to plan! The staff was amazing and so accommodating. Half our group scuba dived and half snorkeled so everyone was able to participate. The bungalows were wonderful with little porches with hammocks. The pool was refreshing and the hilltop bar provided games and activities. We would love to come again.
- Rodrick Dewayne (10/5): - It was so nice to have an overwater bungalow on a small private island with tropical gardens and great scuba diving and snorkeling on the surrounding reef. Will definitely be going back again and again.
- lbcake2001 (8/5): Dolphin Snorkel - We did the dolphin encounter and snorkel and it was amazing!! We snorkeled with Kenzi our trainer as well as 12 other dolphins! They interacted with us the whole time! Such a magical experience! The only downside to the resort is some of the women in the gift shop and snack house were not very friendly. Other than that, we enjoyed our dolphin time!
- Denise (10/5): excellent - the staff are exceptional
the snorkel package and food were exceptional and the property was beautifully maintained more clarity on booking website--the hotel thought that the reservation did not include the resort food package
- 350saula (6/5): Its ok - My wife and I visited Roatan as a stop on our cruise, choosing this place for a relaxing experience. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet our expectations. We never truly felt welcomed, the massage was just okay, and the bartender was not particularly friendly, often pushing drinks that weren’t very good. I will admit the location is beautiful and offers a nice escape from reality, but the service left much to be desired. I don’t plan on returning.
- bg191157 (10/5): AKR is Fantastic - This was our second trip to AKR and just booked our next trip for 2026. No complaints at all. Great staff from boat taxi drivers to wait staff to dive staff. Denny in the dive shack is very friendly and helpful, DM David Jr is fantastic and Elvis is the best boat captain in their fleet. If you want a great diving experience, then this is your best option. Food is very good for an all exclusive resort.
- Daniel (10/5): - Extremely well organized. All staff were very pleasant and helpful. The dive operation was 1st class. Food was excellent particularly the fish.
- jessicaaF332TA (10/5): Awesome dolphin encounter - I took my son to the dolphin encounter experience as well as my good friend and it really exceeded our expectations! The resort itself is beautiful. It's very efficient. And they explain everything in detail, the facilities where the dolphins are are clean and look amazing and the dolphins themselves were awesome. I highly recommend and would go back!!! Plus we loved the great pictures they take as well!
- Christel (10/5): - The cabana was nice and the view from our private dock was exceptional.
- MCanick (10/5): Anthony’s Key provides excellent dive and hotel services - I stayed here years before the hurricane. Anthony’s key has been completely remodeled and upgraded recently. The dive, restaurant and room staff are excellent and more accommodating than almost anywhere else I’ve ever traveled. As in much of the Caribbean, the reefs are not as vibrant as they were. However, there are interesting sponges, soft corals, fish, sea turtles, eels and other sea creatures to watch on every dive. The rooms are comfortable and the decks facing the oceans are stunning. The food and service in the restaurant was much better than anticipated. It was a wonderful eight days with them.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Poor welcome and overcharges - Hotel was nice however upon check in they charged us an additional $600 for a second person in a king premium room for a 2 night stay. Had we known it would have been $600 a night we would have booked elsewhere. This also didn’t include any meals or drinks, so didn’t make sense to charge so much. We won’t be back unfortunately.
- travelingbandacoot (10/5): Awesome Dolphin Snorkeling! - We visited this place to do the dolphin snorkeling and it was amazing!! Absolutely cannot recommend it enough! There was even a 4 month year old baby that was so curious! I literally cried when it swam up to me! The staff were amazing and they keep the groups small. If you are visiting Roatan i highly recommend this excursion!
- Okiejer (8/5): Dolphin encounter was very cool. - We booked the dolphin encounter through a 3rd party. Wished they would have told us that snorkel masks and fins are required so if you don't bring them you have to rent them. I had my mask and didn't bring the fins. That being said, the dolphin trainers clearly love and respect the dolphins. The resort provides veterinary care for the dolphins and they are released to open water daily. They had a wild male dolphin join their pod and now he lives there too. Person Photo time is limited and a professional photographer takes several shots available for purchase. We did the extended package which includes 30 minutes snorkeling with the dolphins. They are curious and playful so it was wonderful to have them swimming up close and personal. When they were peopled out they just swam off.
- debramG7264LR (10/5): My favorite snorkeling destination - I just love this place. The people who work there do everything they can to make sure your visit is wonderful. The rooms are great and everyone from housekeepers to landscapers boat captains and wait staff are so kind and fun. I don’t know of any place that includes this much diving and snorkeling in the prepaid packages. The focus is on diving and it is pretty quiet after 8 o’clock at night which suits me just fine. Alcohol is not included in the package so it draws a different crowd. They’ve done a lot of remodeling so now there are more economical rooms to very luxurious private suites. Managment is very attentive. if you need anything you can just ask Melanie or Alexis.
- allisonn897 (10/5): Simply wonderful - First time to Roatan. My son and husband purchased the dive package, and I went for the snorkeling. Both were amazing, and very short boat trips from the resort. Accommodations clean- we stayed in a deluxe bungalow on the key. Staff was friendly and professional. Food excellent. Pool was clean, and we also enjoyed the free paddle boards and kayaks. Paid extra for the dolphin action dive, which was well worth the cost. We will definitely go again! Two tips for first timers- do not be alarmed if they transport you to the resort in a shuttle separate from your luggage. It’s actually a very nice service. Also, we regretted we did not bring more cash for tips. You can tip at the end of your stay with credit, and we ended up doing some cash/credit combos. Highly recommend!
- Desrie (10/5): - Not only do you get to enjoy a piece of paradise the staff truly made the experience even better. You end up feeling more like friends than just a tourist they help throughout your stay. The experience of the island and locals reminds you that life can be simple, fun and relaxed. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you Anthony Keys for creating an experience that makes us want to come back every year.
- MinnSwede_6 (10/5): Amazing experience with the dolphins! - I had accidentally made a reservation for the wrong day for the dolphin experience. The woman that checked me in ( I wish I remembered her name) was so accommodating!
She said that our event was full, but was willing to ask someone step in to create a new group for a different dolphin activity; the dolphin action swim!
Doing that really was a highlight of our time in Roatan! Being pulled through the water by the dolphins, doing games with the Dolphins, and being pushed through the water on a boogie board by the dolphins with something we will never forget! I am so appreciative for how she went above and beyond to make that experience happen and help create lasting memories!
- Michael (10/5): - Excellent property with amazing security and great diving.
- irisb141 (6/5): Mystery Dive group from a Shore Excursion - We booked a dive through NCL as a shore excursion in Roatan, Honduras. It turned out to be through Anthony's Kay resort. The service with the dive group was very good. A dive photographer came with us for the first dive and I bought the pictures during the surface interval.
The dives were only fair- lots of rocks and not a lot of coral.
But the dive operation was good.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- prit (10/5): - Great property! We loved our stay. Very highly recommended.
Don’t hesitate to book if you are into different and unique experience!
- F8569CYbradp (10/5): Dolphin Swim & Snorkel - This is the second time experiencing the Dolphin Swim & Snorkel at AKR. What a fantastic experience. We can highly recommend it. The animals are very well taken care of and appear to be very healthy. The trainers are very knowledgeable. The gift store is the best on the island.
- Rose (10/5): - Great resort!
- ronaldbW3107WK (4/5): Avoid the windy season. - We booked a dive package that included 20 dives. Six days of 2 tank morning dives, 6 days of 1 tank afternoon dives and two night dives. Due to high winds on the north side of the island, Anthony's Key had to bus us to the leeward (south side) of the island. This was a 20-30 minute ride. Consequently the resort decided to cancel all but one afternoon dive and the two night dives. They then used the excuse of weather, but the truth was they did not want to run the bus for the afternoon or night dives. Out of the 20 dives we paid for, we only dove 13 times. My issue was that they used the excuse of weather and did not offer any apology or compensation. They could have simply credited the Nitrox charge or discounted the bar bill as a gesture of good will.
On a side note. The islands roads were horrendous. Due to the rain, the roads were full of pot holes and mud. Traffic becomes heavy due to these conditions. This made the bus ride go from 15 minutes to 30 minutes or more on some days.
I will say the food was very good and the restaurant staff was excellent.
- Matt321 (8/5): Nice place, understand the great reviews - We went for 2 weeks over 2024-25 Christmas New Years. Myself and my teenagers son and daughter. We stayed in the RIMS rooms which are on the mainland, not on the key. We had a queen, bunk bed and a single with 2 bathrooms (and showers). Great setup for our group. The Key (very short boat ride-24 hours) is very nice but had dual queens which didn't work for us.
- rooms were comfortable
- shower water pressure was horrible, which I had brought some tools to clear out the shower head like people on the Key we met did.
- There aren't phones in the room so every question needs a 1/8 mile walk to the front desk or dive shop to confirm. Not the biggest deal, but an on-resort phone system would help, and I found out later it is wired for it.
Laundry was available for $10/bag (good size) - cash only
DIVING
They are a good operation and once you learn the flow all is good. Rental gear was good quality and I (very experienced) had no issues and dove Nitrox the whole time. Even went to smaller 62 tanks as I don't breath very much and all dives are in a very safe margin. Much lighter.
Divemasters and drivers are top quality and have a good sense of humor. They do dive in one big group, but after they judge your ability they had no problem with my daughter and I keeping away from the group on most dives. On one night dive I told them in advance we would 'get lost' to stay away, worked out just fine.
We got very lucky and had 3 days of whale sharks... Threw out more video than I kept. Also some great dolphin encounters.
The reef has not recovered enough from 2022 to spend the $$ they charge. Wildlife was pretty minimal vs all the hype from past years. Got to know the staff well and this is no secret. It wasn't boring (for my kids) but I know it has been better.
Night dives are great. Mostly shallow but huge crabs, small lobsters and if your lucky Octopus. We had one that didn't run away and put on a great show for us.
Shark dive - run by different group and you pay for it (even though you paid for the morning dive with AKR) - not a huge deal, but be aware. Shark dive was good for my kids level. Very safe.
Kevin - the guy who runs the dive operation is really nice and will go out of his way to make sure things are running smoothly.
Resort
My biggest gripe is even though they are 'inclusive' - they charge $3 for a coke and same for a glass of house wine. It creates so much paperwork for their folks it is just silly. The amount of $$ they charge and a coke is $0.30 in local grocery story just makes it silly. I hope the owner is reading as getting rid of that would make your people so much more productive.
I met the owner many times and he is very interested on feedback. Good guy. I helped them address some of their WiFi/network problems. People will complain, but it isn't their WiFi. They are forced to use a service provider to the mainland and at 5pm, all the hotels on the island are competing for a limited resource, it isn't their local network.
Their private island is kinda an inside joke. It is nothing fancy and the lunch there is pretty bland... We did it one day in the rain which sucked, my daughter got so cold she went back on bus. 2nd time wasn't so bad, after the bad food we went to see the animals and monkey's were very cool and friendly and fun... They make you stay for 2.5 hours and then you do 3rd dive. I think this is Monday's and no way around it unless you skip dive 2 &3.
The "Fiesta" on Wednesday is also a bit 'forced' - it is a BBQ on the Key and you have to do it rain or shine. 1st time (Christmas day) we had rain and no shelter (there is no plan 'B'). Sucked because they close the restaurant and Bar on the hill. So we went over in the boat, ate and came right back with umbrellas. 2nd time was partial rain and no wind, so the bugs were out... Would be nice to be able to opt out. Food isn't that great.
Am I happy we went - yes. It was 'rainy season' and we got 3 or 4 days worth, but did most dives. Visibility was hurt by the rain for sure, but it did clear. Whale Sharks made up for it as they aren't common down there and whole focus changes when they are around. We had a 45 minute dive with 3 hours on the water looking for (and finding) them.
If you go on their Facebook page you will see the video. I'm in yellow on the dive boat. Their photographer is amazing, look at the video best piece of work I've seen in a while.
Would I go again, no. There are more lively reef's, probably have to look to the south pacific.
- Dolphin4sure (10/5): Amazing Dolphin Action Swim experience - Everyone was extremely gracious, knowledgeable and helpful. We were amazed that they were open New Year's Day. The 11 and 14 year old children were so excited about the experience at the Action Swim they told all of their friends. It was the highlight of their trip.
- Demi (10/5): Relaxing yet adventure always available. Wait staff felt like family, shout out to Yolanda, Brandon, Erik and Stephen. - The scenery was out of this world. I loved waking up and falling asleep to the birds and the surrounding sea. The updated rooms were super. We originally had one of the older rooms but changed to an updated room which was a significant improvement.
- Nancy (10/5): - Excellent staff everywhere. Dive operation run efficiently.
Well organized.
Not a fan of dolphins in captivity or dependent on food source.
No orientation as we did not arrive on a Sunday
- Bush (9/5): Superb - Everyone was very friendly and the diving was well organized! The meals were great too! The weather - not your fault!!
- rochelleforster (10/5): Review of Ankor only (the restaurant at Anthonys) - We came for dinner - the restaurant was full (and as we later learned most people were with the dive groups and had an all inclusive meal plan). The food was delicious and the staff were so attentive. Food portions were huge so we ended up taking leftovers. My husband loved his wahoo and I had the coconut shrimp This is also one of the few places where we did order dessert - the homemade cheesecake with blueberries and the homemade banana ice cream.
The restaurant is very large and nice. It was great to see it filled as during low season so many of the restaurants were closed or empty.
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (9/5): Very nice resort overall. - Restaurant staff and food was great. Everyone was very friendly. Dive Master and boat was not as professional as we are used too. But reefs and wreck diving ok.
- Shannon (10/5): Beautiful safe place to stay and dive. - Dive shop repeatedly did not book us on the same boat with our friends. No reason for it. Just rude. It really felt sexist, because when the men asked, they finally made the change.
