• David (8/5): very good stay - only that worry about lack of staff availability overnight in case of emergencies - the pub was centrally located; the room was clean; staff were welcoming and helpful; the bed was comfortable. the breakfast was quirky - left outside your room at midnight in a hamper (two pastries, yogurt, an apple, some granola in a jar, small bottle of milk, small bottle of juice and three mini jars of jam/marmalade - adequate for me but maybe not to everyone's liking. if you wanted to go out early (say 7am to 8am) the door from the second floor to the ground floor was locked so you had to leave the pub by the fire escape; i didn't know whether any staff were on the premises between midnight and 8am but it felt a bit unnerving.

• RICHARD (3/5): Disappointingly poor and underwhelming - Some elements of the visit were enjoyed. The history of the venue and as a pub, excellent. Much of our visit was underwhelming. The general vibe was poor, the value for money poor for a number of reasons. To mention some, the room was not clean, one of the two curtains was hanging off it's rail, a part of the carpet was visibly warn, plug sockets were not working, of the two windows only one had a net curtain and therefore privacy was poor, the bedside light didn't work, the shower was not clean. That said, the bedding and towels were perfectly white and clean and the continental breakfast good.

Would have been nice to have a mixture of options for breakfast in the restaurant. It was continental breakfast in rooms or cooked breakfast in restaurant.

• Marie (8/5): Lovely place to stay in great location - The room was really nicely decorated and bed was comfy. The staff were really friendly. Location was excellent. The pub is lovely. Good selection of drinks at the bar. There were some cleanliness issues in the room - the drinking glasses were dirty. An old heater and fan had been left in the room which would be better stored elsewhere. The duvet cover was torn. The hamper my breakfast was in was dirty. Only 2 channels work on the TV. These are small issues which could easily be resolved. If they could sort these, it would score 10/10.
• Michelle (9/5): Charming place to stay in the City - The bed and bedding were extremely comfortable. Loved the traditional features and double ended bath. The breakfast basket was lovely too. It was very warm so we had the window open, not an issue for me but my husband was bothered by the early morning loud city noise.

Staff were aware but failed to mention it when showing me to my room. Offered me a free drink but should have either repaired it or offered something more like free breakfast.

Breakfast was very nice and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Nice touch having a mini fridge in the room, bit noisy at night though. I think they could have been clearer about how to get to the entrance to the NCP as it's a bit confusing to someone who's not used to Worcester. Also I found 4pm check in to be very late. Room was good overall if a little on the small side. Also my room was pretty cold as the window had been open and took me a while to suss out the old style radiator to warm it back up again. Bed was ok, not the most comfortable but definitely adequate. Duvet cover was ripped though. As goes with the territory with an old pub, the bar etc is tiny.

• Norman (8/5): Hats off to The Cardinal's Hat. - It's an old traditional pub that hasn't been knocked through with TV screens, fruit machines and piped music. The continental and cooked breakfasts were both excellent. Whilst I enjoyed using the shower, a bath option would have been good. I appreciate that there wasn't enough space for this in my room.

• Caroline (7/5): This would be very cosy in winter! - Welcome from the staff and decor of the room were good. Quality bed linen and towels, comfortable bed. The room was unbearably hot, even with the window wide open all night, and the fan provided did not make any difference. Main parts of the room were clean but corners and round furniture was very dusty and needed better vacuuming. No bath mat for stepping onto from the shower.

Had to travel up 2 flights of stairs with luggage then be told we had to come back down & pay immediately. We were hardly going to do a runner! Furniture very dated.& dirty. Cushions old & musty. We removed off the bed.. Carpet in room dirty, needs hoovering. Cups in room dirty inside. I had to re wash with boiling water. Continental Breakfast Hamper left outside the door.. Mis match cutlery. 1 banana and 1 orange for both of us. Not even 1 each. Extra charge for Full English. Upon check out, they couldn't even open the front door for us to get out with all our luggage. We had to walk around the back & down iron steps. Unbelievable inhospitality! We visit Worcester regularly but would we stay here again? Absolutely NOT.

• jennifer (8/5): Lovely cosy comfortable accomodation - Comfortable bedroom snug/cosy bed surrounded on three sides. Friendly informative staff who were able to provide addtion al history of the building. Excellent tasty breakfast - though no black pudding though on the menu :-( Very very slow draining bathroom sink, non-shutting waldrobe - had to use a wedge of paper to keep the waldrobe door shut & there was not a handle. Yes it was vintage but needed to be functional.

• Mike (5/5): very mixed review - Very mixed review. The property is old, quirky and full of character. The bar has a first rate selection of beers, shame I didn’t have time to sample them all! We arrived early afternoon and were dealt with by very friendly and helpful staff, we had to wait for our room to be finished, so we spent an enjoyable hour or so in the bar. Our room was well appointed, clean, quirky and character was enhanced by some genuine antique furniture. We dined out, went to the theatre and then returned for a few drinks before going to bed. I was shocked at how different everything was in the bar. The evening staff were clueless, wandering round like headless chickens, the bar man was rude and surly, empty dirty glasses were piled up everywhere; as I say, all very different to lunch time; can’t work out if they were short staffed or just bad at their jobs. For breakfast we opted to pay the extra and have the full breakfast (not the complimentary continental). Wish we hadn’t bothered! The actual cooked element was ok, (nothing more than that though). But it was the so called cold buffet on offer which was very, very poor. No selection of cereals, just a half empty pack of cornflakes. Only fruit juice option was apple, there was a bowl of fruit with 2 bananas and 2 apples; that was it! My advice to the landlord, is either just go out and see what your competitors are doing and do breakfast properly or just stick to the complimentary continental. Although the bed was comfortable, sadly we didn’t get much sleep. A burglar alarm in an adjoining building went off in the early hours and remained on until well past 8am. Can’t blame the Cardinals Hat for this, nothing they could have done.
• Sarah (8/5): Great location, good value for a city centre room, - Great location, the building has lots of character, staff were very friendly, bathroom was very clean and nice fresh towels provided. Cooked breakfast was good. The mattress has seen better days and the bedding was tired with faint staining on it. When we arrived there was a large empty box on the relatively small landing - with bedding and a number of bin bags spilling out from under the stairs. They were still there when we left in the morning. Doesn’t create a great impression

• Michael (4/5): Disappointing. Dark. Dangerous. Strange smelling. Stairs a nightmare. NPoor customer service. Poor c - Comfy bed and a good bathroom Our stay was basically very disappointing. The place was dreadfully lit. Stairs therefore very dangerous. Mai,Yang a hot drink in dim light was also precarious. The standard room we had booked was so dark, small, strange smelling and tiny. Only one hook on which to hang clothes, this being on the shower door. We requested another room which was a an upgrade. No negotiation about the additional cost. The hotel was deserted when we left in the morning at around 9.30am. No help with our luggage as we left, again trying to negotiate the stairs. We were simply left to it! . We could not have evacuated the building in any kind of emergency. I am partially sighted, and we are in our early 70’s. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS VENUE.

• Sophie (4/5): Overall comfortable but a few things need amending - Great location. Room generally good value. The power shower was great and we liked the breakfast in the little hamper. Various small things in our room needed improving. The bathroom floor was sticky, the toilet seat was old and very stained, the bedside lamp didn’t work, we found a hair (not ours) in the bed, the kettle had a PAT test sticker for 2018 on it, the teaspoon was already used and left on the suaver, the lock on the fire exit (through which we had to enter after 10pm from the street) was broken so anyone could have opened it and our bedroom was right next door.

Staff were very friendly and excellent breakfast (£7 exrra for cooked) was very punctual at 8am as we were tight for time. Room was a bit quirky eg box bed with steps but adds to character ! Nice refitted bathroom with good size bath. Outlook to multistorey car park opposite.
