- Neil (8/5): Staff and food were excellent - Fantastic room and lovely staff It’s really a party venue with a few bedrooms. The staff provided 3 lovely meals but as we were there 24 hours, there’s really not a lot to do there other than read or watch TV
- Stanley (10/5): - Although the property is really nice, I think the price is too high

- BristleGirl (10/5): A fabulous hidden gem with amazing food and lovely staff - We had just one night (sadly) at this fabulous hotel. This was our last night before we returned home to the UK after a couple of weeks staying in various places in southern Africa and we couldn't have wished for a better end to our holiday. Ivory Manor is absolutely gorgeous, with each room being individually designed. We were in Spring Bling, with one of the biggest beds we've ever seen, a little balcony and a lovely free-standing bath with separate walk-in shower.
We seemed to be the only guests staying that night, so when we went to dinner we were escorted to a dining room beautifully set up for two. We had the place to ourselves! The attentiveness of our server Leroy, together with the excellent food and wine, made it a really special end to our African Adventure. And breakfast the next morning was the best I had on the entire holiday (and that's saying something). Again, we were in a room all by ourselves and it was excellent, with great service once again. The tableware is beautiful and it was so nice to have proper tea served in a china tea pot and poured into elegant china cups.
The gardens are lovely and the forest walk is a lovely little glade. It's hard to imagine this is a city hotel at all, as it feels as if you're in the middle of nowhere.
Thank you to James for showing us to our room when we arrived. Thank you to Leroy for the great dinner service and to Clifton for saying hello. Thank you to the chefs for fabulous food and to the reception staff for making our stay even more special by letting us keep our room on after check out. That meant we could relax by the pool (a lovely peaceful sun trap) and prepare for our homeward journey at our leisure.
I sincerely hope I have the opportunity to return to Ivory Manor one day.
- cmoore655749 (10/5): Excellent Hotel and Fabulous Food too - What a gem of a find. This beautiful hotel has it all. Comfortable beds, stunning rooms and bathrooms. Fabulous staff, who are so attentive. I will definitely be back!
- Carol (10/5): Excellent Hotel, Superb Staff and wonderful Food. Worthy of 5 Stars***** - What an absolute Gem of a find. This hotel goes way above any other that I have ever stayed in to make you comfortable and feel welcome. From the moment you drive through the gates you enter Heaven! The staff are really friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The food is excellent and the whole experience will always be remembered. I will definitely be back - Thank you all for great service. Worth of 5 Stars!!!!!
- Eldria (8/5): Very good -
- Sightsee61141365540 (10/5): Luxury and Quality - Very beautiful and well cared for estate. The food was great and service excellent. They made arrangements to pick us up from Rovos Train and drop off at airport. High luxury facility. Also loved the cigar bar. The beds were full sized king beds which we loved
- SJS1963 (10/5): Lovely Boutique Hotel in Pretoria - We stopped here overnight before joining the Rovos Rail train. We could not fault hotel, it is lovely and the food is outstanding. The staff were all very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. We would happily stay here again if we returned to Pretoria. We can highly recommend it.
- kathrynhW5503IS (10/5): South African Retreat - This hotel is wonderful. I stayed here for two nights prior to traveling on Rovos Rail to Victoria Falls. I arrived on an overnight flight, and even though it was 9 a.m. hotel time, they gave me access to my room so I could sleep! The grounds are gorgeous and the rooms are luxurious. The staff is attentive and incredibly kind. Also, you must eat here! The food is all made on-site - even the bread and butter! - and is delicious. I cannot recommend it more highly.
- Pedro (10/5): Will defnitely go back if in the area - Good service and good breakfast in nice atmoshere
- Helena (9/5): excellent, very friendly and helpful staff . Very comfortable and food v good - Both excellent the air condition wasn’t sufficient in the room
- BeyondBoundaries (10/5): Charming Gem - The Blue Train put us up here the night before our train trip. The hotel is intimate, charming and quite lovely. There is some quite exceptional art on display. The staff were super attentive. It was a beautiful start to our South African vacation.
- stuartbaguley38 (8/5): Birthday Celebration - A really lovely local getaway. The environment was lovely but as staying guests, would have liked to have been able to enjoy the outdoor seating area in the afternoon but for the private function that was there. There were small oversights viz. never received the turn down service on our first night etc. Otherwise staff were lovely, food was well prepared and beautifully presented.
- thommieb1979 (2/5): A Heartbreaking Decline: Ivory Manor's Food Standards and Pricing Disappoint - It is with deep regret that I write this review. Having hosted seven functions at Ivory Manor Boutique Hotel over the past four years, I had come to associate the establishment with exceptional service, an inviting atmosphere, and an experience that left both my guests and myself delighted. However, my most recent visit marked the last time I will ever recommend or return to this venue.
Let me begin with the positives: the service remains top-notch—attentive, professional, and warm. The ambiance? Still charming and elegant, setting the perfect tone for any occasion. But this is where the compliments end. The food portions and prices are nothing short of shocking, leaving me utterly embarrassed in front of my guests.
The main courses were smaller than starters, an insult to any diner who values balance between quality and value. Take, for example, the lamb shank priced at a hefty R310. What arrived on the plate was barely two bites of meat—a portion so meagre it bordered on disrespectful. The Duck Duo, a dish with promise, was laughably tiny—better described as a "Quail Duo" based on its size. And the Rib Eye steak, traditionally known for its hearty cut and flavour, was riddled with fat and sinew, rendering it almost inedible. To top it off, the desserts were an even greater disappointment, with portions so insubstantial they failed to satisfy even the lightest of sweet cravings.
This was a far cry from the Ivory Manor experience I had grown to love and trust over the years. It is evident that there has been a change in management or the culinary team, and unfortunately, the new direction is far from an improvement. Charging such exorbitant prices for these insultingly small portions is not only unjustifiable but also out of touch with the expectations of loyal patrons.
Let me be clear: this is not fine French cuisine, where smaller portions might be excused by the complexity and artistry of the dish. Even Pretoria-based French eateries offer larger, more satisfying portions at similar or lower price points. The stark contrast to your past standards is both disappointing and disheartening.
I had high hopes for this visit, expecting the usual blend of sophistication and satisfaction. Instead, I left feeling let down, embarrassed for my guests, and deeply saddened to see what Ivory Manor has become. Never again will I recommend your establishment, and never again will I return.
For a venue with such a stellar reputation, this decline in quality and value is unacceptable. I hope you take this feedback seriously because the Ivory Manor of today is far removed from the one I have cherished over the years. You have lost a loyal customer.

- dwain2015 (10/5): Dwain - 40th Birthday - It was a masquerade theme party and the setting, decor, couches, tables, service, was excellent and would at anytime recommend the facility.
- Frederick (9/5): Superb -
- 80brucel (10/5): Wonderful Weekend Away - We wanted a quiet weekend out of JHB and someone recommended Ivory Manor and a great recommendation it was
The service, accommodation, attention to detail and willingness of Jan and his team to help made it a pleasure.
The food was delicious and an absolute treat.
They had 6 different functions // events over 2 days and they handled all of them with ease without forgetting about there in house couple.
Well done - look forward to returning 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
- Surreystar (10/5): Amazing hotel - What an absolutely beautiful boutique hotel, and what made our stay even better was how amazing each and every staff member was, nothing was too much trouble!
There are only 9 wonderful rooms, so the hotel doesn’t feel busy or overcrowded, which made for a very relaxing stay.
We would definitely recommend Ivory Manor Hotel
- AndreaColchester (10/5): Absolutely perfect - One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Absolutely beautiful, stunning rooms and gorgeous tranquil gardens. All of the staff went above and beyond and could not have been more helpful. I really wish we had longer than 2 nights here as it was just perfect.
- 418christol (2/5): Disappointment and Despair - My friends and I attended Helena Hettema's performance at the Ivor Monari Manor Boutique Hotel on May 18, 2024. While Hettema's performance was brilliant and stunning, our overall experience was disappointing.
We paid R350.00 each for a meal that was supposed to accompany the performance. The menu included a beetroot and fig salad as a starter, a choice between red snapper fish or beef for the main course, and a classic tiramisu for dessert.
We were instructed to arrive at 18:30 for a 19:00 start. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a sherry, but there was confusion regarding our table arrangement. We were not seated at our designated table, and the performance started late. Despite asking the waiter and other staff members for information about the meal service, none could provide any details or explanations.
Eventually, we were served soup as a starter, which was not what we had been promised. When we inquired about the original menu, no one could explain the change. Dinner was not served until about 10 PM, after the second part of the show. By then, we were famsihed, only to discover that the meal was being served buffet-style on the patio. We were given curry and rice, which was poorly prepared. The food was overly spicy, and some guests couldn't eat it. Some people left out of frustration.
After the final part of the performance, dessert was announced, but there was again confusion about its service. It was evident that the owner's mother and friends received preferential treatment, as they were served immediately.
We requested to speak with the manager or owner, but when the owner came to our table, she walked away without addressing our concerns. Her dismissive attitude shocked us.
Ivor Monari Manor Boutique Hotel claims to provide hands-on, friendly, and personalized service, but our experience contradicted this. The issues we faced were not resolved by simply offering a complimentary glass of wine. We left the hotel disappointed and saddened, as what could have been a beautiful night was marred by poor service and mismanagement.
- Mobile01039522565 (10/5): Celebration Dinner - Thank you for creating a forever memory! - From the start of replying to emails and going out their way to ensure this special celebration would be just that - special! The ambience was perfect, good food and great wine! Thank you for going out your way to create a memorable evening! Just amazing and forever grateful!
- ColinGuernsey (10/5): A Special Experience - Ivory Manor is a special hotel. Away from the noise, hustle and bustle, it is an oasis of calm, great gardens and lovely rooms.
There are only a few rooms but the area is quite large, with lots of lovey rooms including a wine cellar and some lovely art on the walls.
We had a great evening meal and breakfast and it felt special.
- E2250YHleec (10/5): Amazing Hotel. Wow! - Wow! What a beautiful hotel. We arrived on a one night stay in Pretoria with no expectations. The hotel was a complimentary part of our journey. The reality was a beautiful and luxurious boutique hotel in its own grounds. The staff were amazing and so attentive (special thanks to Hazel & Jeff(erson) you made us feel so special. The service was second to none. Everything was exceptional the food, wine and accommodation. We felt like it was our own private residence.
- OnAir619639 (2/5): Not for wheelchair users. - Very pretty hotel but if you use a wheelchair forget this one, it’s a nightmare not at all properly accessible. Restaurant up a flight of 12 stairs. Steps up to the ground floor room. Plus service really awful, management really don’t give a s**t and my husbands steak was inedible. Our pickup the following morning was much earlier than our itinerary stated with no explanation given. When we got home we complained and basically the hotel said we were lying!!!!! Great customer service NOT.
- Sipho (10/5): Exceptional -
- Risa (8/5): Very good -
- Patterson (10/5): Beautiful facility and grounds. Room was very comfortable. Staff were amazing. - The staff was exceptional. They were extremely cordial. I had to make a last minute booking and they were very understanding and accomodating.
- Nico558 (4/5): Disappointed again. - One has high expectations of this magnificent establishment. The gardens and layout are very well done.
But we are here for a meal and that is where everything just falls flat. The restaurant was not full and we waited for more than an hour for our food. The food was 'fancy' but bland. The chicken wrap had virtually no chicken in and the ceasar salad ordered as a starter arrived after our mains.
The chocolate cake desert (special of the day) was old and dry.
Service was okay.
My second disappointing visit and my last.
- Gert (10/5): Excellent venue for special occasions - Reception was friendly and quick. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast was the best. Room was large and comfortable
- stephanieS7774BF (10/5): Heavenly escape - From the time you reach the gate to the time to get back into your car to (unfortunately) leave, you are greeted by and care for as if you are the only and most important person there. THe staff is open, friendly and most welcoming. The atmosphere of the property makes you feel "out of this world" and cosy, stylish, calming, BEAUTIFUL! The room I stayed was comfortable with the nicest coffee you can make your own cappuccino if you like. Thank you to all for making my stay so beautiful that I didnt want to leave.😊
- Kleyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wilma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (7/5): Pleasant experience - Meals very well presented.
Wine cellar, sommelier and meal was very good.
Staff very pleasant and accommodating. No bathroom door
Breakfast did not offer many options if you don't eat egg or meat.
- Joanna (10/5): Perfection and care - Well kept neat textured
- christopher (10/5): - The room was comfortable, the bathroom was clean, the whole place seemed to be set up for guests comfort. The staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful.
- Madelein (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marichelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashley (10/5): Loved every minute of it, we will definitely be back and recommend to others. - The staff are super friendly and welcoming, always making you feel like you're their only customer. They go above and beyond to see to your needs. The rooms are immaculately clean and the food was brilliant. Our room (number 1) was a little noisy in the early mornings with tables and chairs being moved around in preparation for the morning breakfast run. Although it did wake me, I couldn't help but appreciate the work ethic of the staff being up so early to make sure their guests feel like they've been waiting to serve them. Tables layouts were stunning with such attention to detail which was noticed by us as you don't find it often these days.
- Corinne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (10/5): - The property was beautiful and staff was amazing, treated us like family.
- CBN (10/5): A bitter taste with class - The staff was friendly and helpful. Hower NOBODY bothered to show us how to use the coffee machine, tv and aircon.
The breakfast was not what we ordered and when we complaint about it, they brought us a bunch of cookies that fell apart with no taste and crumbed so much we could not even butter it.
- Lindsey (10/5): Highly recommend luxury guesthouse - Must be one of the most beautiful guest houses I have stayed. Absolutely beautiful art, tasteful and comfortable furnishing and the friendliest of staff. Very luxurious linens and comfortable bed. Food was also exceptional. Wish I could have stayed longer. So peaceful and perfect! Not too big like a commercial hotel but not too small that you feel like your in someone else’s house.
- Michelle (8/5): Ivory Manor Feb 2020 - Fantastic location. Beautiful rooms. Amazing facilities. Only (minor point) Service is very friendly, .... but potentially slow & you may need to be specific.
However, I plan to go back, & have already recommended to others (& so have my guests).
