• Andrew (10/5): Pleasant experience - Went to visit family in Port Townsend and just by chance chose to stay here. Very pleasantly surprised about the facility and all that there is to do there. We will definitely stay there again.
• latayad2024 (4/5): Overpriced and worn down with mice. - We stayed in the dog friendly units. From the online pictures I was expecting old but maintained accommodation. Unfortunately, that’s not what we got. The carpets were in desperate need of cleaning, we didn’t walk barefoot on them. The plaster on the walls was falling off, no screens on the windows. Since there is no ac we had to open windows which isn’t a problem until bugs came in due to no screens. The bedding was clean enough but the beds weren’t very comfortable. Our friend used the air mattress they provide for additional guests but it didn’t hold air and he was awakened at night by a mouse swimming in our dog’s water bowl. The staff was friendly and the Fort itself is pretty cool but the lodging was hands down the worst I’ve stayed in. I only saw the dog friendly accommodation and I wouldn’t recommend.

The only thing i would say is that if you value quiet, get a standalone house rather than half a duplex, walls very thin, you can hear a spoon in a mug in the other side of the house.
• Kim (8/5): Really nice - You would never know how nice the accommodations are from looking at the buildings from the outside. We stayed in a 3 bdrm appartment in the Lofts and it was really nice inside. I think Fort Worden is a fun and interesting place to stay.

From chipping pain on walls and ceiling to not working shower - it’s nothing close to what one would see on official photos of the property. It’s puzzling where all high reviews are coming from or maybe we just unlucky with the duplex unit we got but it was very unpleasant stay. Would never come again.

• SeattleWAcouple (10/5): Wonderful Fort Worden! - Wonderful historic old fort, buildings, museums and rentals plus RV camping on the peninsula at Port Townsend. Quiet and so many trails along with a long, beautiful beach. The staff is awesome and for a large family or multiple friends, the Officer's Houses are amazing!

• Albert (10/5): - My buddy and I went up to visit friends, and I booked this because I needed two bedrooms and like taking pictures on the shore. We ended up with a 4-bedroom suite with a dining room. It was amazing especially for the price. It retains the qualities of the time it was built, so the bathroom is not deluxe by any means. What they have done is add dining facilities that are terrific, ie, a good coffee shop. Next time, we'll try the bar.

• William (2/5): Front desk needs help. - I arrived early before my 4 PM check in so I thought we’d go check out the town got back to the hotel at 6:30 and everything was closed and couldn’t check in tried calling the number no answer after I left a message and 48 hours later still no call back or anything. After waiting waiting for a callback for 30 minutes or so luckily I got a hold of the maintenance/security guy and he let us in hour later, did get unpacked and in our room until 8ish. The security guy was very nice and helpful but the front desk needs some help and that one’s did they mention to be back before everyone had left by 6 PM. The grounds of the hotel itself are pretty cool along with the security guy but the front desk was seriously lacking customer service was terrible to say the least.
• J3341TEtl (2/5): Overpriced and borderline unsafe - My family stayed in one of the Corporal housing duplexes the past two nights and couldn’t be more disappointed with our stay. We realized the first night that the duplex walls were paper thin. We could hear everything happening on our neighbors sides which really made it hard for our dog to relax and which meant I had to spend most of the morning telling my five year old to be quiet. We expected the place to be older and basic in style, but it’s honestly feels depressing. Paint was pealing from everything, leaving huge patches on the ceiling and wall. The shower reminded my husband and I of our hostel days. The kitchen was so basic it made us regret trying to cook dinner. You must bring everything with you as they don’t provide even salt or cooking oil. We figured out why that might be the next morning when we woke up to find mice poop all over our kitchen. We paid over $300 a night (with the pet fee) for a truly depressing stay. I can give one star for the park of course, but it’s safe to say we’ll never stay in the housing on the Fort ever again.

• Lindsay (8/5): Cool place! - We will be back! Beautiful place and w/ that old school vibe in the rooms. The beach is super close, huge lawn, and two cute science places for kids. It looks like there’s camping there too but we stayed in the housing. There’s a restaurant but it was closed bc of the season and the small cafe was good. My only complaint was we had a huge awesome balcony and it was absolutely covered in bird feces. If it wasn’t such a short trip (2 nights) I would have asked for them to clean it bc it was that bad. That will not deter us from staying there again though :) also, there’s a ton of history here so that’s was cool to read about.
• S4440QSlisap (2/5): Very expensive for terrible accommodations - Extremely disappointed. We enjoy Ft Worden very much, but the accommodations could not have been worse. The Corporals townhouse was tattered, cold, dark, and lacking in any decoration. It was depressing to say the least. In addition, we were told we had to go to main building, about a ten minute walk, to get wifi, and there was no tv. The furniture looked like it came from Goodwill. If you wanted to read in the living room, there was only 1 table lamp to read by. These units are very expensive for what you get. We have stayed in historic hotels around the country so it's not a problem that they were old. It's a problem because of how they are put together.

We enjoy history and hiking but I appreciated the comfy bed and indoor plumbing over tent camping in November. There's plenty of room for a family to spread out, or to gather for meals and family fun.
• joetL9635ZR (4/5): Exorbitantly expensive for low-quality, low-effort accommodations - We stayed in one of the NCO buildings for a few nights. The park itself is great and worth visiting, but the rental was awful. The building was ancient, minimally updated, and poorly maintained. Paint was peeling everywhere. There's almost no furnishings, every footfall and creak echoed throughout the house. The kitchen was spartan to the point of being unusable without bringing your own cooking equipment and seasonings. Linens were bare minimum, which was a problem when the plumbing started leaking. Doors didn't close easily or at all. None of the windows have screens and there's no other ventilation, meaning on warm days you have the choice of sweating or letting in endless numbers of disgusting noisy flies. Noise was an issue in general - drunken lawn bowlers were loudly swearing and catcalling women across the street all day, every day. If this place was dirt cheap, like 1/3 what they actually charge, I could see it making sense for a budget, fleabag-level stay. Given the cost it's a massive rip-off and huge disappointment.
• lindandougm (6/5): Very clean accommodations, but a bit run down - My daughter and I stayed in a duplex, I believe listed as Corporal’s Homes, the 3rd week of September 2021.....we had a wonderful time!! The weather was perfect and we totally enjoyed the hiking and walking paths through the woods and along the sandy beach!! The people at the check in were very accommodating and friendly. And we truly enjoyed walking up to the Commons for morning coffee and sitting outside enjoying the sun and the turning of the fall leaves!! The house did leave a bit to be desired. The linens, towels and bedding were wonderful and the house of very clean!! We did feel safe and the house had dead bolts, but the place was very in need of some renovations. There were lots of paint peeling and cracks through out, no screens on the windows so it was almost impossible to open those because of the flies. The kitchen (maybe because of the pandemic) didn’t even have salt, pepper, sugar, very sparse . Even an alarm clock in the bedroom would have been nice!! Or a box of kleenex!! Maybe I’m sounding a bit picky, but for over $250 a night...... We did enjoy our visit here, and walked to town several times, would love to return, but now would be better prepared and bring personal stuff, like an alarm clock!!

• DC98101 (8/5): Engineers Cottage - a great spot - We stayed two nights in the Engineers Cottage at Fort Worden in April 2021. We were late getting the ferry and arrived after hours, but had been left very easy instructions to pick up the key from a key box and find the house. Our check-in and check-out were both completely contactless. The house was very spacious - two bedrooms upstairs, a bathroom, living room, dining room, and kitchen downstairs. The location was perfect - we were able to spend the day walking around the Fort, over to the lighthouse, and beach. It was so unique to stay in a historical location like this and imagine what it would've been like for the soldiers. An absolutely beautiful location!
• theresat784 (10/5): Adventure and Relaxation - We stayed in one of the Corporal duplexes at Fort Worden. The house was huge and spacious, and also pet friendly. The kitchen was ginormous, with plenty of supplies for the three of us. Deer would wander around the fort and bed down around the houses. Plenty of places to walk the dog. There are so many trails to walk and explore, and lots of wonderful historical features. The views from Artillery Hill are beautiful. The fort is a quick drive from downtown Port Townsend as well.
• Joanna C. (10/5): Watchmans cabin - We stayed at the Watchmans cabin and it was wonderful. Had all the kitchen tools we needed to cook and enough space for our family of four to relax and explore beautiful Port Townsend. The empty bunkers were a hit with the 11 year old and the beaches were a hit with me. The 8 year old loved the deer that lounged just outside our window.
• turdpire (8/5): NCO house - We had a good time but the house was disappointing. I have stayed there before and expected to stay in a place with a fireplace, there was not one in our house. Also the layout was awkward and not much in the way of serving bowls etc. BUT we did have a great time and plan to come again. The beds were comfortable and three bathrooms was nice. Next time we will upgrade to one of the remodeled officers houses. Thank you for giving us the opportunity for a great weekend.

However, it was winter when we were there and the downstairs was freezing no matter how much I turned up the heat. So, we mostly stayed upstairs where the heat worked. The kitchen was large, but the appliances were really old so it was challenging to prepare a good meal.
• Taz001_11 (10/5): Ft. Worden, 2-Night Stay in Corporals Duplex - Easy travel from Seattle for a vacation to another world. A perfect time for a family, or friends in your bubble, in or out of the Covid pandemic. Almost contactless check in -- responsive and friendly--, immaculate housing with basic cookware & dishes (no serving dishes or mixing bowls), wifi so you don't miss having screen entertainment (no TV), comfortable & spacious rooms and miles of gorgeous trails, views and historic gun mounts & batterys (sp?). It's really something to breath in the history of this place. Very few people in range. Pt. Townsend is 5 minutes away and Port Ludlow is near with a .5 mile nature trail and water falls. Scenic biking, tennis courts, large grassy areas, very tame deer everywhere. If the heat doesn't work, try flipping the circuit breakers. I do think $30 a night for a dog is excessive after the first night, but, at least we could bring our old pooch. Our stay was an absolute pleasure and I wholeheartedly recommend as lengthy a stay as you can manage.
• carola73 (4/5): 5 Star Park, 2 Star Rental (maybe 2.5, I'll be nice) - First, let me say that I stayed here for 7 days and I absolutely LOVED the grounds! I think I walked every path, trail, road, sidewalk and every thing paved and unpaved in between. Exploring the bunkers and the hidden treasures scattered throughout the woods was a dream. I love history and getting to freely explore everything on the park grounds first thing in the morning at dawn before others arrived was something that I miss right now after returning home. My dog loved it too and I should add that the park is SUPER dog friendly which I loved! The park itself gets a big thumbs from me. Really nice people walking early in the morning too...I think locals from the surrounding neighborhoods but very friendly. Now on to the not so nice part... I stayed in one of the duplexes on NCO Row (311S to be specific) and to say that when I drove up to it my first thought was "this must be the house I will be murdered in" is an understatement. There was nothing inviting or appealing about this house from the outside or any of the houses on this street to be honest. They have more of a foreboding feel to them than anything else. To say they look neglected on the outside is being nice and they all come with creepy black doors, paint peeling off all over and stairs on the outside of the house leading down to a door that I guess goes to the basement...was locked so who the hell knows what was down there...bodies maybe? creepy creep creepy Anyway I digress... walking inside, yes it smelled musty in the back area by the door but once I walked inside the kitchen, there was no real musty smell anywhere else. The house was clean, the furniture was also very clean, the beds were comfortable and the bedding and towels were surprisingly nice, and the kitchen was well stocked with dishes, cooking utensils etc and I saw no bugs or rodents in the house while I was there..yay! I was happy about those things. All furniture in the house that was made out of wood looked like it came from garbage picking in the neighborhood..it was that old, beat up and stained. But hey, it was clean and not dusty so...bonus The rest of the house inside was as basic as you get; cheap carpeting, cheap kitchen, barely anything on the walls, no books, no TV, no radio, no DVD player no nothing and, there must have been a sale on cream colored paint because everything in the house was the same cream color... the walls, the ceiling, the moldings, the railings, the old vents, and even the cool windows that old houses have above doors to the bedrooms were covered in cream paint and painted shut. basically anything that gives an old house its character had 50 coats of cream colored paint on it. WHY?? I have no idea. These are historic old homes that have so much charm but have been ruined by covering everything with cream paint. I did have Wifi. It was slow but good enough for me to work. Worked better downstairs than upstairs. I'd like to point out that I am not a high maintenance person and I had read plenty of reviews on this place prior to going there however the pictures on the site are a bit misleading and the condition of the houses on NCO row and in some other areas from the outside were just awful. I saw them renovating two houses in a different area while I was there and realize that renovating these is a big job and probably expensive too but I really feel that the state that some of them are currently in is straight up awful and as I stated earlier, there was nothing at all inviting about any of the homes on NCO row. I paid approx $200 a night and I think that is a fair price to rent a 2 bedroom duplex but I would never stay on NCO row again unless I was told they had gotten around to renovating them. Sadly, those are the only units that allow dogs so if I ever head back to Fort Worden I'll just stay elsewhere and enjoy visiting the park instead. I was never comfortable in the house. It was just too creepy for me to ever feel at ease there. I was honestly happy to leave the house when I did but still miss the park itself. When I texted people photos of the house I was staying in, they asked me if a horror movie had been filmed there. No joke. Its funny and sad at the same time. Sad because historic homes should be treated much better.
• Laura (8/5): November stay at Fort Worden - Our stay at Ft. Worden was very pleasant. It was exciting to explore the fort grounds. It was also nice to stay in a Victorian-style townhouse (corporal's quarters). Our only problems were that there was no shower, just a claw-foot bathtub. We had to call the concierge to turn the heat up. (It was set to 62F.) Other than that, it was fine.
• deforfylow (10/5): Fantastic Family Vacation Spot! - This was our fourth trip to Fort Worden but the first time we'd stayed in the on site housing. Our experience was wonderful and the house we stayed in was perfect for our family - very cozy and charming. I cannot wait to book another stay there! We love Fort Worden and all it has to offer!
• usestairs (6/5): New Normal? - This is our 5th stay at Fort Worden including a Christmas stay with family; we love the property, the location, and the peaceful trails. This was out first post covid return and we stayed in the Stewarts Cottage. All was fine but no WIFI. Spent two days trying to contact someone for help, left voicemails, emails, and even dropped the check in location all with luck. Finally someone told us "the internet is down" and no ETA for return. No call or email was ever returned and we spent the entire time there without WIFI. Still a great spot and maybe just a rough week for staff but service was certainly sub par.

• veeyesha (10/5): Great Weekend Away - The 2 bedroom house with enclosed porch was just right for the five us. The living room had plenty of seating and there was a desk chair we added to the four around the table that let us comfortably enjoy our meals. We could have used a couple of large serving bowls in the kitchen but otherwise it was fully equipped with the basics. The house was clean and warm. We missed not having the kayaks available, but took advantage of the many trails. With all the open air space around us, social distancing was easy, and we were able to really relax.

• 007pandas (10/5): Exciting place to tour - I meet two followers of my blog site at Fort Worden, and we walked the coastline and trails surrounding the Fort. Its location provides dramatic photo opportunities of nearby mountains and the occasional freighter passing along the waters. There's a nearby pier, and the site is also where the movie, "An Officer & a Gentleman," was filmed.
• jjgilles (6/5): Late Refund - My husband and I usually enjoy staying in historic settings and camped at Fort Worden several times in the past. This was our first time in one of the duplexes. We checked out one week ago and I have still not received my $150 deposit (?) that was to be refunded to me. This is after I was double charged for my pet fee although that was refunded on check in. I'm disappointed and wouldn't recommend it.
• R9325HTmichaelm (6/5): Great Location, Poor Management - The house and location were awesome. However, the house was very poorly equipped and the service was non-existent. Very few kitchen utensils (e.g. no spatula, sharp knives, salad bowls, etc.). In these days of Covid, I was shocked that they didn't even supply any hand soap, shampoo or anything like that!! Then there was the total lack of staff support. When we got to the house, it was cold inside. When I called the "front desk", they told me there was no way for us to turn the heat up, they have to do that remotely. They said they would, but despite two reminder calls, both of which went to voice mail, it never happened. With all the great accommodation options in the Port Townsend area, I'll never rent at Fort Warden again!!
• SarahLee2021 (10/5): Perfect getaway! - We spent a long weekend in one of the Corporal duplexes right in the middle of the horrible smoke from the California wildfires, so we mostly stayed indoors. But what a wonderful place to be "stuck" indoors! Loved the gorgeous tin ceilings and the comfortable bedrooms. We have already booked another stay!

• Verified traveler (8/5): - This is a very cool old property. The beds were ok. The place smells incredibly musty, but that's to be expected for an older place in a damp climate. The staff was exceptionally helpful. We stayed in the Corporal's quarters which was half a duplex. Unfortunately the walls were so thin that we could hear ordinary conversation in the next room, so we'll spring for higher level quarters if we return. The facility itself is amazing with lots of onsite hiking, and we really appreciated being able to bring our dog, who is admittedly better behaved than most people.

The ex Officer’s houses at Fort Worden provided me and two friends with an excellent house at which to spend the night while paddling our sea kayaks from Sequim Bay to Point No Point. On top of a great place to shower abd sleep, there is a tavern on the property, converted jail abd the Sunday brunch we ordered at the on site restaurant was truly one of the best I’ve seen anywhere as well as a great value! All in all a great spot to stay! And if you DO stay, stop by and see Steve and Amy at the kayak rental stand down by the beach... great people, who let us store our kayaks by their rental boats, a HUGE benefit, rather than hauling loaded boats a quarter mike up to the rental house!!!!

• Kathyrn (8/5): Great location, fun amenities for dogs - This was a great place to stay while our child performed in a local choir concert. We rented one of the dog friendly duplexes. It was conveniently located, nice grounds, close to the beach!.
• Kathleen (8/5): Fort Worden Weekend - It was fun for a historic house which used to be Corporals Quarters. The location was beautiful with a lot to explore & do. However, wheelchair accessibility was an issue for various buildings including lack of sidewalks or ramps. Also, some things we discovered by chance -- like you can drive up the trail to the various old Fort concrete bunkers by exchanging your driver's license at the Commons if you meet ADA requirements. That saved us a hike pushing a wheelchair up an old paved road. Another thing was trying to find which building sold items displayed in the Commons building lobby. No one we asked knew -- the Gift Shop or the Marine Center shop did not sell the t-shirts displayed or some of the books or stuffed animal puppets. We will come again & hope to be able to access more areas in the future.

• Verified traveler (6/5): - The fort is a great property to physically experience with the Sound and walking paths. We stayed in one of the pet friendly houses which was only okay. Plus $30 per dog (for us it was x2) for cleaning was over the top for the cleanliness level of the property. The housing is only OK ... minimalist and not much else. As dogs are always to be leashed on the property, there isn't a dedicated dog yard as such where they could be taken for a little freedom. We'll certainly go back to the fort to explore but won't stay here again.

Had a comfortable old house feel and a full kitchen, but the wireless was a little spotty and no tv. Very dog friendly. The grounds we're very nice and worth spending some time exploring. Quick access to the bunker and museums, and just a short (10) minute drive to key areas in Port Townsend.

The space was well kept and cozy upon arrival. We had a wonderful experience with the staff who were very accommodating of any special requests. The kitchens where very well supplied with utensils and cooking equipment. We enjoyed the large verandas and views of the surrounding mountains gleaming in the distance. It was a wonderful, relaxing stay and we would highly recommend it. A chance to slow down and connect without the distraction of tv was incredible. The fireplace added to the charm and we enjoyed a fire in both the dining and living rooms.

Pretty basic 3 star accommodation - I guess you're really paying for the "experience", which is enjoyable. An excellent place to digital detox given almost no internet service speed. Some great walks and exploration to be done. Taps at the Guardhouse - good food and drink. Staff friendly and efficient; a couple of small maintenance issues promptly rectified.
• Rick V. (6/5): Nice locations, so-so accommodations - We loved staying at Ft Worden and the entire compound was very cool. It's also very close to the downtown district and a lot of recreation. However, the actual accommodations we stayed in were pretty stark--not a picture on the wall, a vase on a table, etc. It wasn't terrible by any means (and probably indicative of military life there in the past) but not great for a romantic getaway. I probably wouldn't stay there again but I emphasize that's not because it was bad, just not our taste. I will say that the clam chowder at Taps (the resturant/bar at Ft Worden) was exceptional and must be tried!
