Guest Reviews
- glennil (10/5): Rainy day but the sun still shines bright….. - Beautiful property with local history. Tour guides dress in period clothing and do a great job of giving you details of he family who lived here. Original furnishings add so much to how they lived. Visitors center is a wedding destination with an outdoor gazebo.
- Barry (2/5): - I drove 15 hors to find out that my room had been cancelled 2 days before I booked it. Was told it was not their problem. I got an e-mail 1 day before asking me to confirm arrival time. Nice to find when you are attending a Bourbon Festival. I would not recement this place anyone.
- Maureen (6/5): - Property was a bit run down. Although it was non smoking property there were cigarette butts everywhere. Room however was clean comfortable.
- Malinda (8/5): - The off the beaten track hotels were far better than the name brand place. Days Inn in Cave City Ky needs new hoyse keeping. The desk help was great.
- David (10/5): Price Guarentee Needed - Hotels.com could improve by includind taxes and all applicable charges. In other words, a price guarentee. The motel itself was fine.
- Liz (2/5): - We left and did not stay there!
- William (2/5): - Don’t stay here
- Richard (8/5): - Great staff. Clean. Small rooms needs updating. Good value but rough shape inside and out.
- Wesley (4/5): Overpriced for this type - Cheap older motel at regular hotel prices. Staff was friendly but accommodations were very outdated and over-priced.
- BILLIE (6/5): - The room was clean. The room had everything you needed (refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, basic toiletries. The price was very good. The problem was the room was dated and the worst thing was the outside with the property needing painting and weeding etc.... overall, I would stay here again for a clean and very economical room but it is such a shame how a little sprucing could make this a doll house.
- Dolly (6/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were clean. The overall condition of the property is a bit sad. Definitely needs freshening up inside and out, new linens and pillows. With that said, the rooms were clean and the location convenient which were the most important things to us.
- Howard (4/5): - Not clean no breakfast monthly renter walking around, take it off your listing
- Eileen (6/5): Ok, - Motel was ok, but higher priced for what it was. Loud fighting in next room at 5 am. Not motels fault.
There was no breakfast, which was ok, we were told about a restaurant across the street. Couldn’t see it until you left the motel, wasn’t given good directions to it.
Room had a smell, so we left door open for a bit,and it went away. Probably would stay some where else if we stay in that town again.
- Mark (8/5): - Not a five star, but it was 1. Clean 2. Quiet 3. Close enough to the town center to walk 4. I like parking in front of the room.
Check-in is a bit funky - no going into the lobby, the young son comes to a slot in the front window & cards & keys are handed back & forth through the slot. Mad me think - is this place THAT dangerous? Nothing else indicated risk.
- Ernest (2/5): - room not cleaned and staff not helpful
- Cordia (6/5): - Room was so cold until we cranked up heat. 1st shower rusty water
- Tessica (2/5): - Awful
- Thomas (8/5): Nice place! - Hotel was clean and comfortable and convenient for what we needed!!
- David (2/5): - There was bugs in my room and the lady at the front desk is very rude about my service dog I’m cleaning the bathroom disgusting all around very poor conditions
- Verified traveler (4/5): old and rundown - Old hotel with windows that were old and moldy, curtains do not cover window so light comes in early morning, the carpet in the room smelled like sour bourbon, the toilet was extremely small and very difficult for a grown man to use. There were spiders in the room. We asked for a third bathroom towel and were refused. Would never stay here again
- Buffy (8/5): - Mid century modern motel without the glam.
- mikeglivingston (2/5): Pets - We booked through booking.com told them we had a dog and they gave us a price. When we got there they charged the price given plus $80.00 for three nights for the dog
I heard noises out side and it was guys working on the door panel of a truck. Tore it apart.
They have people staying there for weeks at a time.
Be aware. Have to ring bell to get in office.
- Cynthia (8/5): - Room was very clean & updated.
- Jeanie (8/5): - Very close to downtown
- Jeffrey (4/5): - For a basic place to rest for the night, this was just ok. Our room smelled like smoke, even though the attendant DJ assured us that nobody smoked in the room. However, we found that there was a chair and ash tray right outside the room next to the AC unit, which sucks air into the room. The room itself was very basic. I recommend this place if you are mainly interested in low cost and your expectations are not high.
- Brainerd H Whitbeck (2/5): - I left and demanded a refund (which they gave without question). There was a strong smell of cigarettes in the room, there were holes in the walls, and people were smoking marijuana openly in the parking lot.
The staff could not have been warmer or nicer, but they really really really need to take some control of their property.
- Perry (4/5): - Overpriced. Coffee pot receptacle in closet did not work. Junction box cover was a switch/receptacle cover instead of a blind cover. Mold on window framing. Piles of junk and uncovered hot tub (not in use) in rear of Property.
- Ortella (8/5): - I was comfortable as almost like being at home
- Ronald (6/5): - Older facility but adequate
- Robert (10/5): - Best price in town!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I stayed here with low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. The check-in was very impersonal and conducted through a cut out, rectangular hole in the windowsill of the office. That was not a good first impression. The property seemed aged, but clean and quiet. Parking was plentiful and very easy to access. The storm door in front of the room door was a little odd, but also quaint. The inside of the room was a combination of vintage motel and updated new furnishings. The walls were painted a nice peach color and made me feel at home. It seemed like the owners are trying to make improvements where they can. The bed was comfortable and everything in the room worked as it should. I was disappointed that when I finally located the ice machine, it was not working. I had a corner room with no window facing the parking lot, so it was probably quieter than other rooms. The corner room had a window facing behind the building instead - which was a view of the pool area that is closed down. I had no real complaints and would stay here again on my next trip to Bardstown.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and affordable. Rooms were very clean except the couches. They need to get rid of those nasty couches. Spills on them that won't come out and it shows. Everything else was super clean.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room had not been cleaned and someone had left a purse with drug paraphernalia in it and the desk clerk refused to issue a refund. Would not recommend to any human to stay here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Fine property for a nights stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet and close to outdoor Stepthen Foster show
- Gail (6/5): A little disappointed - some revisions were made, newer carpet and paint. very minimal. need to paint outside. advertised ice but the ice machine had cob webs so I assume it has been broken down for awhile. the beds were comfortable and the area was quiet at night. NO lotion or Kleenex and only two old towels were provided.
- Jonathan (8/5): Business stay - Clean and polite check in. A good value for the area
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Not really pet friendly
- Verified traveler (4/5): - A little on the sketchy side. The paint needs refreshed inside and out. There were suspicious characters hanging in the parking lot. The staff doesnt allow patrons inside their lobby
All transactions are done through a makeshift two inch plywood slot made a a corner of a window pane. The room was musty, poorly lit with an outdated tired peach paint scheme. Bed was ok room was clean. Carpet looked new.probably was a cool place nack in its day.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The office person was not polite. And when I the air conditioning was not working correct and i called the office i was hung up on. Very upset about this. Will not be staying here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room, including bath, was clean, but very dated. Dealing with the front desk through a hole in the window frame that was barely large enough to pass a deck of playing cards through was awkward and provided a very poor first impression
- david (6/5): - You get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We liked the fact it was one level. Had an outside swing for evening sitting.
- Regina (2/5): - I was very disappointed in my stay there. I took my grand daughter with me, she is 13. The web site said children stay for free under age 17. They charged me an extra $15.00 a day.
- Chester (6/5): - The room was a little outdated. The few updates that were done were nice. For just one person or maybe a couple it was a reasonable stay. I would not recommend for a family. There was no breakfast option, the few channels that were on the TV were not of any interest to me, I just turned something on for noise.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not a great value - We can't necessarily complain too much, but would say the overall value was lacking. For the type, age and condition of the motel, off-season and during a pandemic, we would have thought the price would have been a little better. We've stayed at 3 star hotels for this price numerous times. Then, when we spotted the HUGE spider on the wall, it was difficult to sleep knowing it was lurking because it JUMPED when we tried to kill it and then were not able to find it again. *shudder*
- KimP329 (8/5): Gem of a Find - No it isn’t a national chain and exterior is a little dated, but you will not find a cleaner room anywhere. Fridge, microwave, free internet and an extremely comfortable bed. Walking distance to the downtown square!
- Phil (10/5): - Staying in Bardstown for work. Overnight stay only. Good, quiet, affordable room.
- Scott (6/5): - The room's interior was fine and relatively clean but there was a pervasive cigarette smell during my stay. Perhaps due to the people sitting outside smoking constantly. Additionally there was a cockroach on my last day. That's gross and lowered my evaluation. Granted a low price room has risks but bugs and cigarette smells are too much. Next time I come to Bardstown I will stay somewhere else.
- Barbara (4/5): - If just needing a place to stop and sleep, the reason why we stayed, then it is more than sufficient. Bed was very comfortable, but we would not stay for more than just a spot to sleep between places to which we were traveling.
- Mike (10/5): Whiskey Road Bardstown - Great place to stay when visiting Bardstown and the distilleries in the area. Downtown area within walking distance.
- Jenna (8/5): Stay was okay - For what I needed, and it being a last minute stay, it was fine. Nothing special.
Outdated, and smelled a little musty. Was clean though. Inexpensive.
Not sure I'd stay here again though, unless it was last minute again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We had rented two rooms, there was loud noise at the neighboring room and no one answered the phone at the desk to deal with it in the evening. It took us six hours to get the key on the second room way over the registered check in time. We asked to stay one hour over on the last day and they only granted 1/2 hour for one room only. Given the inconvenience we experienced it seemed only fair to get one additional hour for the two rooms to noon. The beds were good and the location is convenient to its credit.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Could not check in.... Lobby was closed and no one answered bell for late arrivals. Very disappointed
- Linda (10/5): Give the older place a try! - It was a nice older hotel. Great location, comfortable bed, clean, coffee maker and very friendly, helpful staff.
- 694lindas694 (10/5): Great price - This little gem is located within blocks of downtown Bardstown and central to many distilleries. The price was very good. Rooms are clean, comfortable bed, coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator. The staff was friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This place is straight out of 1955. Nice quaint motel that is clean and well kept. Nothing fancy, no lobby with coffee or breakfast.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Stunk and greatly needs updated. Not good service.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Basic accommodations. Clean. 3 block walk to downtown very reasonable cost
- jerryleec (10/5): Classic Old Roadside Motor Inn! - Important to note that I have a "thing" for old, one-off motels and have long wanted to stay in a place like this but never seem to have an opportunity. This review is based on the expectation that I would be staying in one of those place and NOT in some huge corporate chain motel. If you want to stay in a room like you'll find at a Holiday Inn Express or Fairfield Inn, etc., read no further and keep driving.
But, if you're looking for a trip into the past where motels were run by the owners and you can park in front of your own clean, comfortable room and use a real key to open the door, then you'll love this place. From what I could tell, the only thing missing was the paper strip across the toilet seat that says "Sanitized for Your Protection." And, it was all real - not decorated to simulate an old, roadside motel for your nostalgia experience. An actual old, road-side motel.
Late check-in does require summoning the desk manager by ringing a bell outside the office, but the manager showed up quickly and got us checked in without any glitches or delays. (Which was good because it was a little cool outside for my taste.) He handed us our room KEYS (yes, actual keys on those old elongated diamond-shaped key rings with your room number on them!) and told us the direction to our rooms. We had three rooms. Not much else to say except that all three rooms were clean and comfortable with updated climate control and flat screen TVs (so not 100% authentic, but good luck finding an old tube TV that still works). And, this motel is in the heart of Bardstown so every convenient to everything in the area.
I do not recall seeing a guest laundry or ice machine - we were only there for one night, but those may have been tucked away down the hall next to the office where the vending machines were located. No breakfast. In fact, there's no food service on the premises, but there is a restaurant right across the street. This motel is not for everybody (which is good because I hate it when I place that I like gets over-run) but if you're looking for an old-fashioned motel which is still reputable and clean, this is for you.
- Caroline (6/5): Good for a one night stay - This is an old fashion motor lodge. Clean, comfortable beds and the room was well maintained. This is fine for a one night stay. Bardstown is a great little place to explore.
- JW (4/5): - Dated n old exterior, rough customers, no brrakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean. Good staff. Nice coffee in room. Refrigerator. Microwave. Nice motel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - They have bed bugs. My kids and I got bit up. Will never go back
- susan (10/5): - Great location and excellent rate. Very clean and comfy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Liked the size of the room and fridge/microwave. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Staff very friendly.
- Mason (4/5): Looked Rough - Hotel looked old an rundown. Appeared to be more of a long term stay location and didn’t seem safe. Ended up book at a different facility because of this.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Older hotel in process of updates. Clean room and friendly staff.
- Ernie (2/5): Never stay at Old Kentucky Home Motel - Rude as hell owners wouldn’t recommend my worst enemy to stay here they gave my room away as when I booked through hotels.com said no credit card needed pay motel in currency when get there but they went ahead and gave my room away I should them my email and they so. Then told us they were booked up so checked motels.com again for another place and guess what it said they had room available oh well wasn’t going to stay there after rudeness.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This is a loser. Stay across the street it is much nicer and has great outdoor hang outs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Short walk to down town and a price you can’t beat
- Scott (4/5): - Very old and dirty hotel. We booked it because it was cheap, but then they add an extra $25 per night to our bill because we had 4 people. One sheet had blood stain and their were cigarettes burns on blanket.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean
- Verified traveler (2/5): - DO NOT STAY HERE. It is filthy. Handprints on the walls, stained towels, foul smell, it was absolutely disgusting. I checked in, had the key for 5 minutes and went to the front and told them I was sorry but I could not stay here. They refused to credit back my money, kept one of the 2 nights. This property is more of a home for transients than a hotel. It should not be on orbitz.
- Penny (10/5): Nice simply hotel - Very nice down home feel to this hotel. Staff was friend. Checkin was fast & simple. Room was clean & beds was comfortable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Pet fee was way over priced.
Outside window filthy...didn't want to open the drape.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Ok for someplace to sleep. The washcloth was stained and the bedding had a few spots but both were clean and arm of chair was broken. NO BEDBUGS!
- JerriV (2/5): Passing through - Booked this online because we are traveling for the holidays with our cat we didn’t want to leave home alone. It reads on internet they are pet friendly but when we arrived to check in they only allow dogs so they canceled our reservation when I told them we had a cat! So be aware, it’s our first trip with an animal and I won’t make this mistake again, we are now staying at Hamilton, much nicer room and $50 pet fee but they have us a discount on our room plus a free breakfast.
I will stay at Hampton Hotels from now on.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Old and a little run down, but clean and comfortable. Needs modernization.
- Christofer (8/5): Great Place To Crash At Night At A Great Price - Nice No Frills Budget Motel. Was looking for just a place to crash while visiting some local distilleries and this place did the job. Rooms have been updated with new beds, furniture and appliances and a fresh coat of paint. Room was cleaned each day and check in/out was easy.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Dirty bathroom, no iron/ironing board, uncomfortable bed. Heater was either super hot or cold, no in between. Breakfast is cold cereal, weak coffee and stale toast. Parking area was filthy with litter. You get what you pay for.
- southerngal4 (6/5): Bardstown - Outdated, Needed new curtains and paint ,Window sills very molded dirty key ring ,No Breakfast options,Room was Clean and They were very friendly here and gave us a gift bag with water and snacks .If your looking for frills and complimentary Breakfast Look elsewhere.very over priced! ($90+)
- amizani (8/5): Nice place to stay, very clean. The hotel allows pets at an extra charge. - Nice place to stay, very clean. The hotel allows pets at an extra charge. Was close the 1792 distillery, no charge for the tour. Was not to close to the road and able to walk to downtown, but is a bit of a distance.
- JPicht (10/5): An unexpectedly good find, and not just for the price - This isn't where I intended to stay, but we were making up our itinerary as we went, and because we only decided to stay in Bardstown a couple of days before we got there, my first choice was fully booked. We needed two rooms for three nights, this place had them, and it was inexpensive. What could go wrong?
Those are famous last words. There's really no limit to what could go wrong. In this case, nothing did; it all went right. I knew from the pictures that the furnishings were retro ("old," my son would say) and this wasn't a modern facility. But the rooms were clean, cozy, and my daughter immediately fell in love with the plaid bed coverings, which she decreed "soft and cozy." There was no breakfast included, but at the price, I wouldn't have expected any. There was no pool and no hot tub. But there was a swinging bench and chairs on the front lawn, we were an easy walk to the city center, and most important to my son, there was internet. The bathrooms were clean and in good repair.
I'm tempted to give it only four stars; the young man working the front desk, while very efficient, seemed inexplicably annoyed. We stayed two nights, and his annoyance never seemed to lift. But he was polite, and he had us supplied with extra towels when we asked, and for all I know, he had four flat tires on his car the day we checked in, so I won't hold his annoyance against him. And I really did like the place. I'd stay there again.
I wouldn't eat breakfast at the buffet across the street, though. It was overpriced and not very good. If I remembered its name, I'd review it separately, but I'll just warn you here: Don't eat there if you want good food at a good price.
- anonymous070795 (10/5): Great place to stay - This motel was a wonderful place to stay. The staff was efficient and friendly. The room was immaculate and appeared to have been renovated recently. The beds were very comfortable with lots of pillows. Towels were of good quality and the bathroom was well stocked.
There is a convenience store right across the street and nice restaurants are within walking distance. I strongly recommend staying here if you are in Bardstown.
- W6088UUdianep (10/5): A GEM - This is a gem of a hotel. Rooms are updated. Exceptionally clean. Refrig and microwave. Close to everything. Everything was lovely. Very quiet and taken care of.my biggest pet peeves are bathrooms, but this was updated, sparkling clean and very appealing. I have been to Bardstown many times and stayed elsewhere. But I will definitely stay here again. Cheapest price in town.
- ky_womn (8/5): Trip to Visit Bardstown, Kentucky - This is an older motel, but my room had new furniture and carpet. It was very cozy and clean, and the staff were all attentive and kind. The bed and seating was very comfortable. We had two rooms booked, and there was no problem checking in or out.
The room was cleaned daily, and very well, however, the trash was not taken out. The only suggestion I would have would be to look into providing new towels and washcloths that are larger and plush.
This motel is in a very good location, near attractions and food. We really enjoyed our stay, and I would recommend Old Kentucky Home Motel.
- mjmanning201 (6/5): Okay, It has seen better days - This is an older motel with few amenities. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. The motel is located in the town of Bardstown on the main street. It was accessible to all of the local attractions. Each room had a coffee maker but there was no breakfast provided which is becoming standard for modern motels. The pool was covered and looked like it hadn't been used in years. The lady who checked us in was nice but provided only scant information about the motel. I might stay here again or I might stay at a motel out closer to the Parkway. The little gift bag was a nice touch though.
- Nuskiewicz (10/5): Impressed - I was floored by how clean and cozy this place was.
The front desk was so kind, even gave a little welcome bag. They gave excellent suggestions for local dining and welcomed us after a long day. I was so glad I chose this motel. Perfect location, every thing is really close. One of the cleanest places I have ever stayed. I felt safe, cozy and welcome in this quant little country motel. HIGHLEY RECOMENDED!
- 550ruthannee (4/5): Such a Disappointment - My boyfriend booked one night and I booked following night.
We checked into the room which had a strange odor of some chemical cleaning agent.
The bathroom was nice but the only updated part of the room.
The carpet was terribly dated as well as bedding and curtains.
The next morning my boyfriend noticed fleas crawling all over his white socks.
I cancelled my reservation with no problem from desk clerk, who was the manager.
The location is the best part about the motel but hardly worth staying there.
We were not staying in a pet supported room but obviously someone had brought pets into the room without paying for them to stay. In my opinion this is
theft.
This causes the management issues as well inspecting guests.
If travelers do not want to pay for their pets to travel, stay at home. We non pet owners don’t want your pets fleas on us.
This is so cheap!!!!
- PlunderGirl (8/5): Why I would stay again... - Imagine the old school motels. This is what it is. Weird crevices. Doors to the outside. Now, imagine if you kept all the old bathroom fixtures and painted all the walls nice and clean. Oh, there is more. Then, you get furniture that usually goes to Hilton hotels. That is this place. I kept waiting for something to be wrong. Nothing! It's not a 4 or even a 3 star motel but it is clean and has a great price. We will be back.
- Tammyin14 (8/5): Very clean - We decided to spend a weekend here on our way home. The motel was situated in a quiet stretch of road. An older building but it was extremely clean. Nice high beds and mattress plenty of towels flat screen TV. Only downside was that the room and bath as a whole was very small
- MrTom2001 (10/5): Very Nice - A young couple owns this Motel. They were very friendly and easy to get along with. The room was spacious and well-appointed. They had a king size bed flat screen TV refrigerator microwave work desk and couch. The bed was comfortable and I slept like a rock. It is an older Motel but still very nice.
- cecilt530 (2/5): Sherman, set the wayback machine. - This facility was decorated in the 60's and retains the same look. The room was clean, but severely outdated. No amenities such as pool or breakfast. The bed was uncomfortable. Due to the Bourbon Festival the rates were double the normal price. Definitely not worth the amount I was charged. Had I known this property was so bad, I would not have stayed there. There was a group of people gathered in the lawn that partied well into the morning. That, along with the road noise, sleeping was next to impossible. Not somewhere I would stay again.
- leftout (8/5): Reminds you of the motels in the 50/60's - When we checked in, was given a gift bag with water, Oreo's and chips. The room is really old. The best thing I can say is the beds are comfortable and the room was clean. It appears, the motel has not been updated since it was built. We just stayed there 1 night and the motel served our purpose. Most motels offer a continental breakfast. This one does not. There was coffee pot in the room and the coffee package was for 4 cups only.
