One of the two chalets are specifically designed for children between 12 - 15 years with no balconies and other safety specifications. All chalets have a glass wall that provides unhindered views of the lush vegetation surrounding the area.

- Bal (10/5): An amazing place to relax and reset. - An amazing place to relax and reset. Rooms and communal areas with breathtaking views, great staff and superb food! A fantastic spa facility with a wide range of treatments, delivered in the most beautiful of settings.
- ali (10/5): Not impressed either the food - Nothing special and very slow service
- Stephen John (8/5): Beautiful place, excellent therapists, excellent service - Location, surroundings No blankets in room. Woke up on the middle of night bc of cold and put on clothing to stay warm in bed

- David (6/5): Nice concept with a high price and potential for improvement - Santani Wellness Kandy offers a unique concept focused on disconnecting from everyday distractions and reconnecting with your senses. The limited phone use policy is a refreshing idea and aligns well with the overall wellness philosophy. The hotel’s location, set in the middle of nature with beautiful views, creates a peaceful and calming atmosphere. The architecture blends nicely with the surroundings, and the food was consistently good and thoughtfully prepared. However, considering the very high price point — even compared to other high-end hotels in Sri Lanka — the overall experience did not fully justify the cost. The service was inconsistent. On several occasions, we had to ask multiple times for simple things like sugar or an additional glass of wine. The bar in the main building was often unstaffed, leading to wait times of 10–15 minutes just to place an order, which felt out of place for a hotel in this price category.
While the yoga area can be used for workouts, the lack of a proper gym is, in my opinion, not appropriate for a hotel positioning itself at this level. Another drawback was the absence of air conditioning. Although the natural airflow system is an interesting and sustainable idea, it did not work effectively. The glass front heats up the room during the day, and without shutters or external shading to block the sun, the room remains warm well into the night and only cools down in the early morning hours.
- Anna (10/5): incredible best place ever - stunning property, incredible wellness and treatments, amazing staff. 💯recommend the yoga and teacher / very inflexible
- Suhasini (6/5): As a local i would say it is over priced. It is completly catered for foreign guests. - Nice location. Very efficient and friendly staff. Western food prep was very good i enjoyed.
- Luca (10/5): X luogo , cibo, yoga , e spa , il posto perfetto - X chi vuole pace e tranquillità il posto perfetto.

- Sadia (10/5): This property is sumptuous, natural and simply amazing. We loved feeling healthy in a luxurious nature setting! The chef - The service, the beautiful food, the relaxing setting. Everything was incredible.

Ogromne brawa dla szefa kuchni i całego zespołu za przepyszne jedzenie, które jak na Sri Lankę przekraczało wszystkie granice. Przepyszne i piękne dania, wspaniała kolacja Noworoczna.

- Yoana (9/5): Go for the luxury in silence, stay for the food and wellness - Incredible food experience, very authentic yoga and Ayurvedic treatments, immersed in nature, super attentive and kind staff, comfy beds and stunning views Everything was ideal, but facilities maintenance should not be neglected - eg showers, yoga mats
- George (9/5): Generally exquisite with a few small things to improve - Wonderful luxurious experience in an architectural marvel, perched on a hilltop, with extensive grounds. Top notch food and a good pace. Very good traditional yoga classes and spa. The cabana rooms are very nicely designed and comfortable, with gorgeous views. The spa only has a steam room, sauna and hot pool (which wasn't very hot) and could have had more features such as a cold plunge. Most of the staff were lovely, but a few were a bit intrusive. It's not necessary to be asked so many questions, and we were disturbed a few times by the service coming to the door of the room asking to clean the room, do turndown service etc. And calling at us around the side of the balcony is a bit of a violation of privacy. The prices for the spa and activities, are too high, out of line with the room and board rate. We took a tuktuk instead of paying their crazy transfer charges. So they still have some learning to do!
- Sima (10/5): Perfection!! - The staff! The location. The silence Nothing except 123 steps to my room
- Forssell (10/5): Exceeded expectations - Amazing every inch. The staff is wonderful.
- Annalisa (10/5): -
- Teresa (10/5): Stay That Touched My Heart Santani is so much more than a retreat – it is an experience that stays with you. From the m - Everything
- Karolina (10/5): -
- Ryan (10/5): An incredible stay - Our stay here was exceptional, the food is second to none, literally michelin star level food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The views of the mountain range from the restaurant is spectacular, we stayed in a Garden View room so were properly nestled in the tress and surrounded by nature. The staff were always ready to help with anything we needed. We did the one free excursion, a walk down to the nearby river where we could swim, we were guided by two very experienced guides who told us all about the nature and animals around. We found a lot of peace staying here, everything was calm, surrounded by nature. Santani is in the middle of no where, it is quite a taxi trip to get there. The WiFi can be unreliable but to be honest this just helps to immerse you in the nature. Excursions and Spa treatments here, can be quite expensive.
- Giovanni (9/5): - Great place, great service, wonderful experience. The design is terrific, and they managed to keep the facilities to the essential, offering the highest level of service nonetheless.
The staff will assist in everything you could possibly need and the food is simply what the best Sri Lanka can offer, including western dishes if requested. Nothing!
- Nicola Rocco (7/5): The property has great potential, but significant improvements to room insulation are essential before it can truly deli - Thr property itself is beautiful and the concept of a wellness retreat in nature is wonderful. The concept and location are perfect for those seeking a nature retreat. The soundproofing is completely inadequate for a luxury resort. During our stay in the garden view rooms, we could hear absolutely everything from the neighboring rooms - and I mean EVERYTHING. We could hear guests using the bathroom at night, conversations, and even their breathing. There is absolutely zero privacy, which is unacceptable for a 5-star establishment.
This lack of sound insulation completely undermines the peaceful retreat experience that guests are paying premium prices to enjoy. It's impossible to relax and unwind when you're constantly aware of your neighbors' every movement.
While the setting and concept are beautiful, the poor soundproofing in the garden view rooms makes it impossible to recommend this property at 5-star prices. For a resort positioning itself as a luxury wellness retreat, basic privacy and quiet should be guaranteed.
- Matthew (8/5): A memorable nature retreat for 1-2 nights - The room was amazing and worth the price. The nature was truly amazing and stunning views of the mountains. The food was very good also. We were a little let down by the lack of direction from the staff and felt like for a 5 star resort, we had to ask for too many small things like directions at the spa facility. Overall this was minor and the stay at the resort was a great one.
- Wolley (9/5): Superb -
- Hetherington (10/5): Once in a lifetime - The staff made my boyfriend’s birthday so special. We arrived by tuk tuk (after a few breakdowns) and they even fixed it for us. Turn down service was luxury and the massage was the best I’ve ever had. Once in a lifetime bliss for us and worth event penny. We also loved our waiter who loved rugby and cricket just like us, and took the time to really chat to us. You’re in nature, and it can be really loud at night with the humming of the mountain life. It’s quite spectacular but made me a bit paranoid of bugs (we never had any in the room mind you).
- Rebecca (10/5): There are very few hotels I have found in the world that understand the guest is there to relax, they couldn’t do enough - The staff were amazing, my friend got food poisoning from the hotel before, they found me another room, had the doctor see her, nothing was an issue at all.
The property is in the middle of nowhere in the jungle a chance to unwind.
The food was exceptional
Treatments and the protocol before and after treatments is taken seriously so you get to most out of it Something to get used to, rather than a don’t like, you are in a building with open ventilation, so you can hear all the wildlife , if mozzies love you, take a plug in mozzie repellent.
- Lama (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bullen (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional. One of the best places we've ever stayed. Would recommend to anyone.
- Jimmy (4/5): Beautiful setting, but a disappointing and poorly handled experience. - The setting at Santani is stunning, surrounded by beautiful nature. The restaurant staff were truly outstanding — warm, attentive, and professional. The yoga sessions and nature experiences, when uninterrupted, showed real potential to be memorable and restorative. Despite clear assurances beforehand, our stay was heavily disrupted by BBC filming on the property. Meals, yoga sessions, massages, and nature walks were all interrupted, and a particularly distressing moment occurred when I encountered a crew member while undressing at the spa. Communication from management was also disappointing; I had to chase responses to my emails, and even after two weeks following my last message, I still received no reply. Attempts to resolve the issue directly were met with offers that felt inadequate given that half of our stay was impacted. I had no intention of writing a negative review, but after repeated delays and a lack of meaningful resolution, I felt it necessary to share this experience — especially because this trip was meant to be a special memory with my elderly parents, which was sadly compromised.
Summary:
Santani has incredible potential, but poor communication and failure to protect the guest experience turned what should have been a memorable stay into a major disappointment.
- Thea (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location and architecture. The spa was a highlight for me. The staff were very helpful and dining was an experience!
- Sidath (10/5): Exceptional -
- Antonio (10/5): Amazing experience - It was all so great I don't even know where to start from. The staff were super helpful and friendly (every single one of them), the food was Michelin-Star-Restaurant level, especially the Sri Lankan options, the rooms were very very clean, spacious, and so comfy that it was extremely relaxing even just staying on the balcony and listen to the birds, without any other sound disturbing in the surroundings. We stayed in the Garden View Chalet, and it was wonderful to be surrounded by all that nature (no TV in the rooms, that's a big plus!). The yoga lessons and the massages were also great, especially the afternoon yoga sessions with Rahul. In brief, if you really want to switch off and actually relax and take care of yourself, skip all the other places in the Hill Country and stay here instead. :) N/A
- Juliette (10/5): Phenomenal stay - Absolutely phenomenal stay. Our room was wonderful with phenomenal views, the food was superb, the staff amazing, the yoga fantastic and we also had incredible spa treatments. A special thanks also to Osanda for a wonderful nature walk, where we were able to swim in the river. We would love to come back for longer in the future! Nothing.
- Youngmi (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (7/5): Amazing location. Good value for money? Probably not. - The views are exceptional.
Good food. Walking to the restaurant at night, there is a beautifully lit stone wall. The path is easy to see. There really is no need for a guide with a torch to walk behind you with a torch to light your path. I appreciate the need to be attentive, but this just felt intrusive.
Common seating areas very small.
100 dollars for 2 hour birdwatching with a guide... Ridiculously expensive.
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phoebe (9/5): The staff and location were amazing. Facilities are fantastic - we used the yoga and spa facilities which were great. We - Stunning location and views, quiet and peaceful N/A
- Pia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Farbod (10/5): Exceptional - A very luxurious experience consisting of ayurvedic spa treatments, great meals, helpful & kind staff, morning walk thru through nature, a great cooking class. A nice place to unwind - definitely recommend for anyone seeking a zen experience while in the northern part of Sri Lanka.
- Duarte (4/5): Disappointing - I stayed at this hotel in 2019, and at the time, I had a much better experience than I did now. Unfortunately, despite the significant price increase (150% more), the quality has dropped considerably. For a hotel that advertises itself as a wellness destination, the environment does not provide the tranquility one would expect. The constant noise from the restaurant, both from the kitchen and the staff, made the experience unpleasant. Additionally, disturbances caused by guests in the next room during the evening and by the staff early in the morning further disrupted the sense of relaxation.
Another negative aspect was the internet, which was extremely slow—something unacceptable for a hotel charging 800 euros per night. The cleanliness was also subpar, with the room windows, both top and bottom, visibly dirty. To make matters worse, at the restaurant, we were asked to keep the cutlery between courses, which is not appropriate for a service of this standard.
Overall, the hotel seems to have lost focus on customer experience and the essence of a wellness retreat. I do not recommend staying here until these issues are addressed, especially given the high cost.
- Ameli (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valentin (7/5): Very nice hotel amandities but service could be better personalized - Location is amazing and very peaceful.
You feel alone in the nature and the spa is also just amazing Staff was great but we had some trouble with our booking and didn’t get any support from the staff. Furthermore, we came in Sri Lanka for our Honeymoon and we didn’t get any special attention from the staff at all even though they knew it… we expected more personalized service from such an establishment
- Mish (10/5): Mindfulness meets architectural harmony - Our stay was absolutely incredible. The setting in Sri Lanka’s lush “foliage” is breathtaking, and the way the architecture blends into the landscape is not only beautiful but simply genius. We felt an overwhelming sense of peace from the moment we arrived. The Ayurvedic treatments and wellness programs were life-changing, and the team are so positive and treated us with so much kindness and thoughtfulness. The food was beyond amazing—every meal was filled with such flavour. Santani gave us everything we needed to truly sought to reconnect and release going into the new year. It’s a place that feels magical, and we can’t wait to come back. -

- Mohammad (6/5): Pleasant - The view, food quality, and the SPA facilities Food quantity , a lot of bugs inside the room, and there are no air conditioners.
- Kendel (10/5): Perfect. - Nestled up in the hills this place is perfect to get away from it all.
Quiet, calm and peaceful.
The meals were absolutely delicious and the staff amazing. Book this! Nothing
- Faten (5/5): Not worth it but it is the only Wellness Resort in Sri Lanka. - View and facilitiess Housekeeping/ restaurant/ spa
- Toby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicholas (9/5): A beautiful experience in the mountains - The location, of course, is absolutely stunning and the rooms have such beautiful character. The food is fantastic and staff for excellent. One downside is the noise travels between chalets quite easily so in this beautiful quiet setting you end up hearing other people’s conversations! That gets frustrating when you want to listen to the sound of the cicadas, frogs and birds.
- Nasra (9/5): I'm definitely going back! I'll be on the lookout for a flash sale to book my stay, and this time, I'll stay - Everything about the place was wonderful: the location, the room, the views, the hike to the river with fresh waters. The food was exceptional. The group yoga classes, the spa, and more made it a true retreat for everyone. The surrounding villages were very noisy due to ongoing celebrations, and the main lobby, being wooden, amplified the sound of the restaurant workers' footsteps. This made it difficult to sit in the lobby and read a book, despite the staff being lovely.
- Emilija (10/5): Perfect escape - Beautiful and serene location, perfect to disconnect and recharge. I was traveling with my husband and we live in a big city so it was a perfect escape for both of us. We enjoyed yoga, nature walk which is included in the room rate. The food was absolutely outstanding, including taste and plate presentation. Every staff member is exceptional. We travel a lot and have stayed in many 5* properties but this was one of our favorite ones. We liked everything.
- James (10/5): Great place to unwind and disconnect - Beautiful property and staff. Nice spa facilities. No AC in the rooms. So they could be extremely hot. Location is quite remote which is fine if just plan to stay on property. The kitchen did not make note of dietary restrictions (despite being told at check in and each service) for one of our party which caused issues for several meals.
- Sofia (9/5): Peace & quiet - The hotel is stunning, nestled in the wilderness, and serene. With no TV and limited Wi-Fi only available in the rooms, it truly allows guests to disconnect.
The food is amazing, meticulously presented, and bursting with flavor. The Sous chef goes above and beyond by sharing all meal plans in advance and adapting them to our tastes and requirements, offering a truly Michelin-worthy cuisine.
While the rooms are clean and tastefully decorated, the wooden slats permit sound from cicadas, crickets, and other animals at night, potentially disrupting sleep for even those who aren't sensitive sleepers. Additionally, noise from neighboring rooms can be audible.
Additionally, waking up with the sunrise did not bother me, but it's worth mentioning. The access road to the hotel is rough and time-consuming to navigate. Guests should not expect well-maintained paths, as the hotel is situated in the mountains and the paths are quite rugged. A suggestion would be to use signage to indicate the location of amenities such as the spa and pool.
The lack of a door for the WC, although not fully exposed, was uncomfortable for me.
- Katinka (10/5): Beautiful, beautiful stay 😊😊 - Everything was beyond my expectations! Everything was perfect
- Kamel (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (9/5): The beauty of tthank you for such a lovely time and to take care of me with your amazing treatments! - All treatments were just amazing, the spa was one of the most beautiful i've ever seen, beautiful pool with a view, beautiful architecture of the whole property. Sri lankan dinner should be improved, as well as adding more choices to the menu both for lunch and dinner. Bathroom was nice but wc didn't have a door which could be uncomfortable to some.
- Lucie (10/5): Exceptional - must to do - Everything is so perfect
They really thought about everything to make your experience unique, exceptional and perfect
You will feel incredible peace there you will have exceptional culinary experience with their cuisine concept it’s just amazing
You have daily hikes included with a guide from the hotel to enjoy the nature
There is a infinity pool with incredible view of mountains and you also have free access to jacuzzi sauna and steam room.
This place is magical.
It’s totally worth the price.
- Samirah (10/5): Exceptional -

- Suzanne (4/5): As a world traveler, this is one of my worst experiences. - Nothing. Sanatani has no character. They are selling wellness but they are not wellness. They think the "fancy" cabin/ room will fool guests but it doesnt. The menu in the restaurant offering normal food and alcohol. You arrive only to know that no Spa times are available and although they communicate with you after booking, they dont mention that you should book in advance prior to arrival. the Process of check in is so inefficient and wastes the guest time. They called me on the way to Kandy and asked if I wanted lunch on arrival and said yes. I arrived and they said the restaurant is closed and we cant serve you lunch. They also said we cant book you spa time and enjoy your stay! Frankly, and from someone who travels the world, this has been one of my worst experiences. Flying in all these influencers for these shots claiming wellness is such a false campaign period. Save yoru money and go to real wellness resorts.
- Veronica (10/5): Great place to visit , recharge and be spoilt - The overall beauty and service Difficult drive in , a little to isolated for exploring the area
- andrea (10/5): - best food in the world, amazing spa, relax, cool, different
- Verified traveler (8/5): Eye wateringly expensive .... - This place is really a special retreat. The Chef is excellent ! The Spa unfortunately is breathe-takingly expensive. And virtually of the activities that you go to a retreat like that for are extortionate.. it is a shame as it is truly a unique location
- Imraan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isaac (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vacation (10/5): Jungle spa, incredible food, breathtaking views! - Our stay at SANTANI Hotel was a captivating experience. The spa, nestled against the jungle backdrop, was utterly fascinating. The food was a revelation, surpassing expectations, and the view from our room was nothing short of breathtaking. Perched on a cliff, we gazed out toward the stunning mountains cloaked in lush greenery. When it rained, staying on the balcony was an enchanting experience. Surprisingly, the temperature, around 26 degrees, wasn't as chilly as anticipated, adding to the overall comfort of our stay. NOTHING to mention
- Alexandra (10/5): Paradise - Santani is the hotel where you want to come back. Paradise. Everything is so incredibly beautiful and fantastic, location, view, staff, food, spa, how they are organized excursion. I don’t know what to say more about Santani… Santani is a pearl of Sri Lanka’s jungle.
- Eleanor (10/5): Everything was outstanding! - I loved absolutely everything about this place - the location, the accommodation, the service, the yoga, the spa and to top everything else the food! I thought the yoga classes were a bit repetitive and would have appreciated more styles and sequences of yoga

- Jeremy (10/5): The most peaceful, relaxing and special place - Setting, rooms and staff- paradise Expensive- but was amazing

- Amira (8/5): Beautiful property set high up in the hills. - The property itself is exactly as described. It is very beautifully decorated and designed, and everything is very thoughtfully laid out. The food is wonderful, and the service provided by all the staff was great. The massage that I had with my bestfriend was in this stunning area of the property, which overlooked the mountains and was such as a special experience. As this is a spa hotel, the expectation is that all guests will have ample opportunity to receive a spa treatment. However we arrived to the hotel and was told that only 2/4 of us would have the chance to have a massage, which was disappointing given the effort we had taken to arrive at the property, and how the hotel is marketed on Booking.com. Given the cost of the property compared to other spa hotels, there is an expectation that enough staff are employed to accommodate all guests to get a treatment. If there is a limited amount of staff, then we should have been informed early on that we should be booking for treatments weeks in advance.
Travelling to this hotel takes longer than expected, due to very windy, narrow bumpy roads. Plan accordingly
- Pragash (10/5): Mystical and magical retreat in the heavens of Kandy - Everything Nothing
- Lindsay (9/5): I left feeling rejuvenated, re-energised and feeling well. - The setting is breathtaking. A great deal of thought has gone into the architecture of the resort. The staff are helpful, respectful and cheerful. The spa treatments were top rate. The food was superb. I can't fault anything about my stay.
- Giorgio (10/5): Everything was PERFETC. -
- Mafalda (9/5): Five star hotel requiring a lot improvement regarding customer service, though in a spectacular location and incredible - The location right in the middle of the nature. The design of each room regarding its purpose. The early morning yoga and the breakfast room. Very few gluten free options for a hotel who promotes wellness.
There should be a policy of not being able to reserve sunbeds, once there are only 8 right next to the pool.
Also, we asked for a lunch box, because we had to leave early. When we opened the lunch box, there was lunch for only one of us. In a 5 stars hotel, that’s the kind of thing it cannot happen.
- Francesca (10/5): This place is pure magic for the soul and the eyes - Literally everything! From the beautiful architecture to the staff.
The chef is amazing and every meal was special, the staff is incredibly kind and resourceful.
Ayurveda treatments and yoga sessions are great.
The silence and the view from the room will leave you speechless.
Hope to be back soon! Nothing!
