Guest Reviews
- Debra (10/5): - Very clean! Large shower and large vanity counters in bath. Room was cool but somewhat humid. Great location. Would definitely stay here again.
- Debbie (8/5): - Pension Kursal features no frills nice rooms that are very clean and walkable to restaurants, bakeries, the bus station and the old town. We arrived when there was staff to buzz us in - not sure how you arrange for the door code and room code if you arrive after 5 pm local time.
- Martin (10/5): Great location in Donostia/San Sebastian - The Pension Kursaal is, as the name indicates, right across the road from the Kursaal and it is an easy walk to the old and new parts of San Sebastián or into Gros, the local neighbourhood. Rooms are compact and comfortable. Coffee (in the daytime) and tea can be made in the reception lobby. The lady at Reception gave us some good tips on things to do and places to eat.
- Luis (10/5): - Great!!!
- Liam (10/5): - This property was amazing. Value for money, has the loveliest staff I’ve had on all my travels - with good suggestions and a willing to help. The location was perfect for us, and for places a little far, it was easy to grab public transport near by.
- Grace (8/5): - .
- Harry (10/5): - The most friendly, ultra helpful staff of our 5 week trip through Europe (sorry, I can’t remember how to spell her name but it was something like Leidie). Fabulous location, near a beach and just a quick stroll across the bridge into Old Town and the rest of the city.
- Paul (10/5): - Nice room, very clean, friendly staff, easy walk to old town
- Jason (8/5): - Great location for the beach and the City, plenty of bars, restaurants and shops to choose from. Room was adequate, clean and compact. Natural day light would be be much nicer. Parking prices were more than the email sent by the Hotel, which was disappointing. But overall a good place to stay.
- Jia Xin (10/5): - The receptionist was incredible at outlining the spots and dishes to try. We basically swore by her recommendations and had an incredible time
- Shane (10/5): - We liked that it felt comfortable not like a hotel with no atmosphere. They gave us some nice advice for things we can do for free. We didn’t know the museum is free every Tuesday. They recommended a restaurant because w couldn’t make up our mind and the food was good so good we went the next night. Great stay
- Derek (8/5): - The location is excellent. Close to Old Town, but just enough away from the hustle and bustle. The staff work very hard to help you. A bit spartan, but perfect if you don’t spend much time in your room.
- Kevin (10/5): - If I could give 10 stars, that still wouldn't be enough. Great place, great people!! Love San Sebastian, too!!
- Brent (10/5): - Wonderful property, booked at the last minute. Great price, location was good to everything and the staff is wonderful! Highly recommend
Brent
- Alexander (6/5): Families or Wheelchairs not the best, otherwise ok - There are some important things to know for families or people with access issues to know: immediately entering the property is a small set of ~8 stairs. There is a lift fitted but this was not working when we arrived and they wanted a €50 deposit for a key to use it while we were there. After this set of stairs, there is a spiral staircase up with a very small antique lift going up to Pension Kursaal and the other floors. This lift worked great, but would very likely be too narrow of an entrance for most wheelchairs, our stroller only just fit. And then, on the first floor, there is just a big step into the hotel reception with no ramp. As you can imagine, I ended up carrying and lifting a stroller in and out of this place quite a bit. Not super difficult but a hassle, and would be maybe impossible for a wheelchair.
The room we had was good. However, the noise from outside was very loud, particularly on Saturday night. We were woken up by people shouting and laughing outside multiple times, as well as a garbage truck coming at both 1130pm and 0400am. The other nights were not nearly as bad. If you are staying out till 1am enjoying the pintxos and drinks, you'll probably be fine, but not great for trying to get an early night as a family.
The staff were very nice and made great recommendations. They were the best part of the stay.
- Jorge (10/5): Muy serviciales - Excelente servicio. Muy atentos y serviciales ls personas del front.
- Christophe (10/5): très bonne adresse - très bien situé, propre, très bonne réception.
- Samantha (10/5): Perfect, just perfect! - Definitely lives up to the hype! Absolutely lovely room - spacious, warm, comfortable, good bathroom, even a fridge. Super comfy bed, proper king sized. Lovely staff too. Location was the best - across from the beach and parking garage, 3 minutes from the old town, bars all around. I cannot believe how good it was for the price. I don't hesitate to recommend 110%!
- Jennifer (8/5): - Great location, easy walking distance to all areas. Area felt safe around the hotel. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
Personally the only thing missing was tea/coffee making facilities in the room as these are only available in the reception area.
- Brendon (8/5): - Positives:Great location close to everything. Staff very friendly.
Negatives:very spotty WiFI and mattress was too soft. Middle back sunk deep and body was very uneven sleeping.
- kenji (10/5): - 立地場所が良かった
スタッフさんも親切で良かったです。
- Brad (8/5): - Ideal location with dining, beach, parking, all nearby. Easily walkable to most attractions in San Sabastian. Entry was under construction, and our room was off the entrance making it noisy as guests came and went. Although not sure there really is anything quiet to this city being so loved all hours by all people.
- Lisa (10/5): - Hotel is in a great location in San Sebastian. A 5 minute walk into the old city with all the attractions and bus transport. Also just down the street from hotel are many restaurants. Staff, particularly Leire, very helpful and extremely nice. Great place to stay in San Sebastian.
- Dana (8/5): - The room was very clean, had a small balcony, the bed was comfortable and staff was friendly. Although in a busy area, it was quiet at night and the blinds were very effective.
The only downside was that the room was small but ok for a few days.
- David (8/5): - Excellent choice. Very convenient for all sights. and very good staff. Accommodation comfortable and well kept. Staff very helpful with guidance about area. The local area is worth spending time good restaurants and nice atmosphere. Only downside was noise about 3-00 am from rubbish collectors. This would not affect all rooms.
- Carol (10/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful
Room was great - everything as described
Bed comfortable, quiet room, everything worked well.
No complaints.
I think we will be back.
- Myra (10/5): - The room was more than sufficient for what we like, which is a great bed, a good shower, and the option for coffee in the morning. We like basic rooms and this was fantastic modern contemporary. The building itself is very quaint & up to date Check-in was superb and easy. The location is phenomenal with wonderful dining options for all budgets just outside your door. the beach and promenade was a two minute walk. The bus terminal was no more than 10 minutes walking via beautiful gardens and along the Riverside. I will not hesitate to come here again. The staff at reception with phenomenally, friendly and helpful.
- Andrew (10/5): - Excellent service and accommodations in a great location.
- Olivia (10/5): - This property had a really easy check in process using a key code. We came late due to train delays and found the staff very friendly and easy to message with.
The bed was very comfortable with good pillows and blankets.
It was a short walk from the train station and in a great location for food and exploring.
- Nadia (10/5): - The location was great, close to the beach, restaurants, the old town, and a large parking garage. The room had effective A/C, a fridge, a comfortable bed, and black-out curtains. The balcony is very small, but large enough for two people to squeeze onto. The coffee in the reception area was surprisingly good. The receptionist was super nice and helpful; she gave detailed instructions on how to work the coffee machine and the parking payment system, and also gave a great recommendation for where to watch the Euro Cup matches.
Only things to beware of:
1. The hotel does NOT accept American Express, even if Expedia's booking system suggests otherwise.
2. Expedia may say that payment is due "upon arrival at the property", but in reality your card will be charged about a week before your stay begins.
3. The daily parking rate is subject to change. When we booked, it said the rate was 18 euro/day, but it ended up being 24 euro/day.
- Deirdre (10/5): Will return - Easy location, great parking across street at reduced rate. You can walk to all sites from hotel no need to drive. Free coffee in reception. Super safe also
- Paul (10/5): - Nice room at convenient location
- Olga (10/5): - All the amenities. The spacious and up to date rooms. Staff was nice and helpful (they answered all my questions with the nicest possible manners)
The hotel is conveniently located to everything in San Sebastian. The feeling is like you are in a boutique hotel (although with much more competitive rates).
It's the kind of place where you want to come back to saty here.
- Hilda (10/5): Great place - Beautiful little Pension in a very nice area 10 minute walk from the bus station. Just a short walk across the bridge to the old town. Great beds lots of hot water. Kettle in the room always a nice touch. Staff lovely.
- Carol (10/5): Great stay in San Sebastian - A very nice place to stay. A few minutes walk across the river from the old town and close to restaurants, bars and shops. The Kursaal entertainment centre was across the road and the beach a few minutes away. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There is an old-fashioned lift. Parking would be difficult and there is no allocated set down area on-street for the Pension. A great place. Room very comfortable.
- Maria (10/5): - EXCELLENT LOCATION with access to everything!!! We had never stayed at a Pension, didn’t even really know what it was. We were pleasantly SURPRISED!! Customer service was superior, smaller hotel so it felt more intimate and safe. The room and bathroom were very clean with AC, towel dryer, wifi, all the basic amenities you get at other hotels, YET, reasonably priced and in an amazing location. You won’t be disappinted.
- Diane (8/5): - We had a room facing the interior courtyard and it was very quiet, even on a Saturday night. Staff spoke English and were friendly and helpful. Good location with everything within walking distance. Hotel gives you a discount to park in the parking garage right across the street, but be forewarned, the parking garage people don’t speak English and the staff was rude. We almost weren’t able to get our car out for an early morning flight because the garage isn’t staffed until 7:00 am and our ticket to get out wasn’t working even though we paid.
- Ines (10/5): - Staff is very nice and nice they gave us a lot of tips for how to dine and what to see
- Desiree (8/5): - The front desk receptionist was amazing!!! The best one we’ve had on our 3 week trip. It was difficult to find the parking garage and hotel location, but we eventually found both. Do not expect to find street parking. The parking garage is right on the water by the beach and hotel is across the street - very short walk.
Large barhroom, air conditioning and walkable to dining options. But, about 20 minute walk to old town, etc.
- Paul (10/5): - Great location, close to the bridge to old town and local area very good. Hotel and room great.
- NANETTE (10/5): - Excellent staff and very comfortable rooms. It is in old building but very modern rooms. Will stay there again anytime I am in San Sebastián. Thanks you.
- MARIO (10/5): Great stay with super location - Very nice rooms, comfortable and great location
- Anthony (10/5): - Great location and wonderful room.
- Winnie (8/5): - Good location ~10 min walk to Old Town. There is an elevator from ground floor to reception (1st floor). Reception staff very friendly and helpful. There is a kettle and coffee machine at reception. Unfortunately I had the room next to reception, and being a light sleeper, did wake up when reception opened. Instead of curtains, they have metal shutters (don't hesitate to ask reception how to open/close shutters). Room was spacious and clean. I would stay here again.
- Jayne (10/5): - Good value, central to old town
- Irvin (8/5): - location in old city near conference centre is perfect.
WIFI was not reliable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Pensión was a perfect stay we will definitely will be staying at location again .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I really enjoyed this Hotel. It was by lots of good places to eat, a great gelato place, and its as close to the beat! The room was clean and tidy when I got back every day. The staff was very friendly, every single one I talked to knew knew English which made my stay much better. They were very helpful with everything!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and friendly staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to others.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful, clean space that is in an ideal location!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location of the pension is very good, close to the beach and the city centre. If you’re driving the hotel has an excellent setup with large parking garage across the street - for €15/day, which is added to your hotel bill, you get in and out privileges at the garage. This is a pension, not a hotel so please note that reception is only open till 9:30. Speaking of reception, the staff is amazing!! When I asked if I could have a small container of milk for my fridge, Martha at the desk offered to give me a kettle and brought a tray with various teas to my room. Martha is truly a gem! In addition, the pension offers services like parasols, beach mats and beach towels on loan; with no deposit required! Rooms are typical size for a European city, cleanliness is good and a good sized wardrobe. Electric rolling shutters are great to block out noise and provide blackout for sleeping. Pension Kursál is a true gem in beautiful San Sebastián.
- Seth (10/5): Great stay in a great spot! - Marta was incredible!!! Great spot close to both beaches and pintxos. Room was very clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property is all about location. The room facilities were freshly renovated. Organization of the shower and toilet could have been better, but still very nice. Liked the free coffe pod machine availability. Staff were super friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful building and entryway. Clean, simple rooms. Nice balconies and view.
- Eh..... (6/5): - The rooms are clean and nice. Staff excellent however the most important part the bed was awful worn out cheap foam mattress and my back still hurts. Also two twin beds together to make a queen. For that price at least a decent bed would be in order. And the air conditioning unit blows right on the bed. No good
- CONCEPCION (10/5): Very friendly staff. - The receptionists were very friendly and accommodating. There was a problem with the sink and
a repair man was sent immediately.
- Carlos (10/5): Good Restaurants in the Area - The property is in a location we liked because it is a residential area, and the restaurants are very good
filled up with local residents. The only thing we did not like is the lack of a parking close by. The parking was far from the hotel, very far and it was hard to get back and forth from the hotel to the parking.
- DESIREA (10/5): Outstanding Location - Everything about staying at Pensión Kursaal was wonderful. First, the location is PERFECT! Amazing restaurant a couple doors down and everything is within perfect walking distance. The room was small, as expected for Europe, but it has vaulted ceilings which make it feel bigger. We enjoyed the little balcony. The complimentary espresso machine was a nice touch. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We would stay here again and again : )
- jocelynn (10/5): Nice, by :-( elevator , no pkng. - It does have elevator, but after 6-8 steps... with heavy suitcases, it was not easy. Also, parking was public and far Away. Otherwise. For one night, it was okay.
- Kevin (10/5): Good choice for stay in San Sebastián - Great location; clean; small but well equipped room; friendly helpful staff
Minor downsides: extra charge for checking after 10 pm; water temperature in shower varied a bit from moment to moment .
I would definitely stay here again.
- Kenneth (8/5): Lovely weekend in SAN Sebastián - The only problem with this hotel was the noise from the street despite the double glazing and the wooden shutter.
- Carlos (10/5): Comfy option in San Sebastian A1 - Excellent Service, very good location, walking distance to ta[as and Bars
- Janet (8/5): - Location was great. Amenities like coffee machine in the lobby was good when it was there but one of the days of our stay it was not!
Location was noisy - out on the street and in the hotel.
- Dave (10/5): Top pick - Excellent Pensión in a great location. Very clean and modern with very friendly and helpful staff.
- Jorge (10/5): Amazing small hotel - When location, convenience and great service collide plus an incredible price, this is something not easy to find in San Sebastián. We will be back.
- theevillanuevas (10/5): Awesome hotel! - For the money, this hotel was the best hotel we stayed in on our trip to Europe. The front desk service was not available 24 hours but they do contact you to let you know this. San Sebastián/Donastia is a small city and the hotel is right in the middle of it all in this charming city. THe hotel had a historical vibe upon entering then turned modern when you walked into your room. It was a very quiete hotel that was extremely comfortable and homey. Front desk was very helpful and nice. Great hotel for the buck!
- Lee (8/5): Great Stay - A really nice Pension, the staff were so friendly and helpful very clean, nice comfortable room.
Coffee in reception is freely available.
Good location from the old town everything was in walking distance. Has some nice places to eat and drink in the nearby streets.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location great staff. Thanks!
- Megan (8/5): Feels more like a 3 star than a 2 star property - This clean, convenient and very reasonably priced pension was perfect for our stay in San Sebastian. Close to parking (which you get at a reduced rate through the hotel), easy to walk to the surfer beach, and some great tapas bars on the same street. The property is across the bridge from San Sebastian in the Gros section. Seemed very young and trendy. Warm, friendly, English speaking staff. Room was clean and pretty big. We had a problem keeping the a/c unit working in our room, but other than that, it was a great stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location. Very helpful staff. Room was small, but very clean. All of our needs were satisfied.
- Juana (6/5): - The location is perfect, and the room is clean but extremely small. Close to everything.
- Alasdair (10/5): return visit - Nice clean and friendly. Second stay this year - glad to return.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comforable room, nice staff, at the beach - Room is nice, comfortable, and clean.
Neighborhood is great with restaurants, etc.
At the beach.
Very nice, attentive staff.
- Pablo A. (8/5): - May use a Big sign with name of Hotel.
- Bríd (6/5): Ok hotel in excellent location in Gros. Expensive - Hotel conveniently located opposite Convention Centre and Zurriola Beach. The immediate area is buzzing with great Pintzos Bars and restaurants and is a short walk to the Old Town.
- Danielle (8/5): Easy to sleep in, just wish it wasn't 2 twins - Pros - intense light blocking shades, helpful front desk (though it is worth noting that is not 24 hours), easily walkable to good food
Cons - we had two twins that were pushed together but no attempt was otherwise made to make it like one bed; our sheets (which were never washed/changed) were twin size and tucked in separately and tightly down the middle. The room couldn't be set up as two twins (Even with the beds pushed together I almost twisted an ankle, since there is a step down right at the bottom corner of the bed for the terrace door to open) so it seems like something they should fix and would make the room much more comfortable.
Note this is not a standard hotel. It's all one one floor of a building with a small reception area. Walls may have been a little thin, but we still slept in every day thanks to those shades so noise didn't seem to be a problem. Rooms are right but comfortable.
- Liam (10/5): Excellent hotel close to the beach - Ok hotel close to the better of the two beaches in San Sebastian. In addition to this the area surrounding the hotel is abound with great eateries and boutique shops.
The staff members were great and helped with printing of train tickets etc.
The room is a bit small for the price that you pay but overall a good hotel.
- theodore (10/5): Middle of it all - Good location
- Cathy (10/5): Perfect - Great location, clean rooms, friendly & helpful staff. I would definitely stay here again
- Donna (10/5): Great Pension - Pension Kursaal is a great choice is San Sebastian. It is spotless, the staff are friendly and speak several languages and the location is so convenient. I would highly recommend this accommodation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Ideal - Perfect and ideal for our stay in a great location. Room was excellent, modern and well kept - would come back in a second.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Location is amazing, but beds are very uncomfortable.
- The Lees (4/5): Nice to an extent. - The location is great, the price is wonderful, the staff is very friendly, but that's where the benefits stop.
It's very hard to find as there are only two small signs and no instructions on how to get in. After we figured it out, we got buzzed in but were left waiting for 10 minutes before someone helped us. No matter how much they clean the rooms, there's always this lingering smell that won't go away. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything. You're right next to a busy street that never stops. The lock on our door was "blocked" because they believed our lock was sticking and they couldn't get in. There's no do not disturb signs so they can walk in whenever they want. They start maintenance around 7am so there's no consideration of guests who might still be sleeping. When we flushed the toilet, the fixture on the wall fell off and there was a lose tile we had to be careful of.
We most likely will not be staying here again and we were tempted to switch hotels for the remainder of our stay.
- Alasdair (10/5): Excellent - Good value, impeccably clean and a great location just over the river from the old town.
- Tomterresa (10/5): - Staff went out of their way to help with directions and local sites. Location was perfect with bars, restaurants, the beach, and historic sites a short walk away, train and bus stations not far either.
- Martin (6/5): Basic hotel room near train and bus station. - Small clean room near train/bus station and near Old Town. Some difficulty once at the facility finding the office (not clearly marked). Very pleasant and helpful staff. Room clean but quite tight for two people. Very convient location with lots of resturants nearby. Overpriced for weekend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cool elavatoe - The bathroom was large. Hot water.
- Graeme (8/5): Best Value Base to Enjoy San Sebastián - It is a ideally located property to access the old town, beach and less hectic cafes and resteraunts of Gros, just over the river. It is simple, modern and comfortable. The staff are very helpful.
- cody (10/5): Great location and value - It's about a 12 minute walk into the old town, and 20 to Playa La Concha, but the Gros / Zurriola Beach area is great as well. To be near the beach and this part of town, with a bit less crowd than the other side, this is a perfect place to stay. Friendly service and nice enough accommodations for a very fair price.
