Guest Reviews
- Jane (8/5): Good value! - Lovely welcome - couldn't do enough for us. Good food. Everything lovely and clean. Nice, quiet location.
However, bedding was lacking. King size bed with only a double size duvet. Shower was very small with no shower gel or shampoo included or hair dryer. TV didn't work properly. Decor was tired.
- Nicholas (10/5): - A lovely hotel a little outdated but that’s my cup of tea. The hotel is situated near the town and beach all in walking distance. The walls are thin we had the visitor next to us snoring all 3 nights but no fault of the owners Judy was very welcoming and the breakfast was very good
- Mark (10/5): - A great friendly place to stay. Fantastic food.
- Nigel (10/5): Lovely cosy hotel - Lovely hotel, breakfast and evening meals excellent, car park a little cosy but fine Judy does an excellent job front of house, friendly and welcoming, we will be back
- Paul (10/5): - Friendly staff and good service
- The Mews (8/5): - The service was good and staff very kind and friendly. The towels and bedding were clean. Breakfast was good!
My only complaint : The rooms were very dated and no shampoo or conditioner were in the shower room.
- Tina (8/5): - It was like home from home. Staff were really obliging and friendly.
- Debra (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay. Staff very helpful & knowledgeable of local adventures. English breakfast was very good & authentic. Very good location & near where we wanted to be.
- Annette (8/5): - We enjoyed our 2-night stay in a family room (2 adults and a 10 year old). The owner was really friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. Good location for public transport, walking and town amenities.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Short hot stay on Isle of Wight (avg temp 28c) - Had a short stay which was excellent. Service was outstanding and the food was always good and well presented the times we dined for both 3 breakfast & 2 evening meals during out stay. Would recommend for couples especially who want a quiet stay where you will be well looked after by the hosts.
- Pamela (8/5): - Nice relaxing place to stay while visiting family
- Susan (10/5): Lovely hotel and hosts. - We had a lovely stay at this hotel. First impressions are good and when you enter the lovely hotel Judy comes to greet you. Judy works so hard, she's friendly and very helpful. Alex does a good job at cooking breakfast every morning as Judy takes any requests etc. Breakfast is nicely cooked and you have several options, including extra tea/coffee and toast, plus cereal.
As for the room, just as many people have said before, it's an old building and looking a little tired now but the rooms were lovely and clean. The only slight downside for us was the shower, it is small but we managed it and it would not prevent us staying here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Non-dairy - I had to provide my own non-dairy milk for breakfast even when I had contacted the hotel before arriving. The heating was put on after we arrived but that's understandable with the present rise in costs. A distinct lack of tea and coffee making provisions in the room. Only one thin extra blanket provided for 2 beds. No hair dryer in the room.
- Andrew (6/5): - Very good service.the breakfast was very good. BUT the shower was very small, lacking pressure and lukewarm. We will not be returning.
- Michael (10/5): A delightful week… - The hotel was in a good location, and we were well looked-after. Each day’s breakfast was very tasty, and the room was adequately equipped and comfortable.
- Sean (10/5): - Best place I’ve stayed in a long time
- Anne (8/5): - The staff and service are excellent; nothing is too much trouble. Delicious and generous breakfast and lovely, good value evening meals. A fridge in the room would be advantageous for picnic foods.
- Lawrence (8/5): Clean, comfortable and friendly. - Clean and comfortable, friendly service. Nothing too much trouble. On-site parking always full so had to park in the road outside, sadly one of my wing mirrors broken overnight (obviously not the hotel’s fault!). Would use again if we revisit the Island. Rooms a good size, decor slightly tired but excellent value for money.
- colin (8/5): - Unique older property, bedroom tired bathroom far to small and tired ,in general the room no 9 could do with a revamp, could not fill the kettle from the sink tap a basic need, but very helpful and friendly
- Neil (10/5): A lovely stay - Chad Hill Hotel is a gorgeous characterful mid-Victorian building in a quiet setting. On arrival we and our dog were made most welcome by the host. Our room though not spacious was very clean and had everything we needed and we both slept well in the comfortable bed. Breakfast was served from 0800 to 0900, all cooked to order and very nice it was too. The hotel is an easy 10 minute walk to the beach where our dog enjoyed running about with other dogs on their morning walk with their friendly owners. We all enjoyed our brief stay and plan to return next year.
- Catherine (8/5): A week on the Isle of Wight - Hotel very friendly and welcoming, room a bit small but comfortable. Tiny shower cubicle but great shower. Over-large chair in room made for less room to move around. Excellent breakfast and choice of bar meals, but very quiet lounge, nothing to do in the evening.
However good location for getting round the island and a good week's holiday. Would consider staying again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nothing was to much trouble, and the food was excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was very clean, the ensuite was a little snug. The meals were excellent and the staff couldn't do enough for you. On the whole a delightful experience. We stayed a week.
- Anne (10/5): - Excellent service, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Delicious generous breakfast and evening meals are fairly priced. The rooms get too hot and the hand-wash basin was too small to get the kettle under. Very clean and social distancing is adhered to. All in all, a very nice, safe place to stay. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
- Mike (10/5): - Quaint property in a good location not to far from the beach or attractions. I took my wife and son and the staff were very friendly and were very conscious of the COVID guidelines and did everything to ensure everyone’s safety. The decor inside is a little dated but I think it fits in well with the theme of this hotel and for the price which included breakfast WiFi and parking everything was great for us.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely lady. Very accommodating.
I’ll definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Friendly but slightly basic hotel - Nice location in Sandown. Friendly staff esp at breakfast. Room was basic a little dated. unusual noise from bed- a bird song tweet and rather hard pillows.Good value though for our short overnight visit to the island
- Moomin (8/5): - The hotel is very clean and owners very friendly made us feel very welcome. The property and decor is a little lated but think this is part of the charm as it’s an old building. The rooms are on the small side and showers are tiny but if you want a good, clean room as a base then this is a good find. Good location and ample street parking if their car park is full.
- Danguole (10/5): First-Timers on the Isle of Wight - Very nice hotel and very welcoming, friendly hosts. It suited our purpose perfectly and we spent a wonderful time there. Thank you, Judy, so much for sorting out everything so efficiently. We wish you the best of luck with your business.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly staff. Lacked a few extras eg tissues, shampoo, decaf coffee
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice staff, family room large and clean didn’t like the old fashioned hairdryer but also nowhere to plug your own hairdryer, also didn’t like the sink in the bedroom area instead of in the bathroom. Breakfast was ok, enjoyed the bar area. Overall would stay again
- Verified traveler (6/5): - There was no dairy free milk or decaf tea available for breakfast. It was suggested I went out and got these myself!!
- Sam&Mike (8/5): - ROOM: Four poster bed! Was a delight. For the money we paid we were very pleased with our overall stay but the room was cramped and could do with a general overhaul/lick of paint. It was quite dated. TV has freeview. Kettle and tea/coffee making facility with table and chairs in room also. 1 x radiator which kept room warm enough.
BATHROOM: Tripped up step which has toilet on said step! Tiny bathroom with very little space. Small corner shower with power shower. Does the job. Clean towels and hairdryer in room.
WIFI: The lady who owns or runs (or both) was very kind enough to tell us the WiFi was problematic (which it was) but it didn’t cause too much of a disturbance.
STAFF: The lady was waiting for us. Knew who we were and were expecting us. She was warm, welcoming and very friendly.
FOOD: Cooked breakfast in morning which was delightful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really tucked away and pretty. Owner so helpful and lovely. Room ok for rating - shower quite small, but all very clean. Breakfast good value and prompt. All in all, not luxurious but good value for money.
- Phillip (6/5): Ok for a night away and keen price - Very clean and well situated hotel. Friendly and helpful hotelier. Breakfast good and stay very good value. In the room we had the bed was very uncomfortable and everything felt a bit tired which detracted from the overall experience. Maybe a bit end of season.
- victor (10/5): Nice hotel - Made very welcome comfortable atmosphere pleasant family room good food cosy bar would not hesitate to stay in the future already looking forward to next year.
- Helen (8/5): Traditional B and B style guesthouse ace location. - Agree with previous reviewers, old fashioned B and B the way they used to be, friendly, welcoming and very accommodating.
If you want power showers and Hypnos beds etc go to the nearest travel lodge, if you want welcoming hosts and lovely home cooked breakfasts and a 'family' feel and great value evening meals, go to Chad Hill.
On reading some of the reviews I ask myself, what do people expect for their money?. Do they really believe for the reasonable cost per night at Chad Hill they are going to get a 5 star environment?. Get real folks, if you want a 5 star environment with soulless surroundings PAY FOR IT. Don't come to Chad Hill for a low rate and then moan afterwards. Thank you Judy and family for looking after us so well and taking a real interest in our holiday and well beinb.
- Phil (8/5): Family room. - Nice old quirky style hotel with very friendly helpful staff.Shower room bit tight squeezed into cupboard type room and shower noisy but overall nice stay.
- Paula (8/5): First time visit to the Isle of Wight - Quaint hotel in keeping with the general ambiance of the island. Staff were friendly and we got the impression some of the other guests were regular visitors. Walkable to the town centre/beach and everywhere on the island is a shortish drive away.
- Lynette (10/5): Delightful B&B - My daughter and I stayed here in May.
What a delight. A lovely B&B. Room was spotless. Breakfast was amazing. Toast, cereal and a full cooked breakfast as well as juice and tea, coffee. The day of our departure, our host knew that we were catching the ferry, and made sure that we were served our breakfast quickly. Would definitely recommend!!
- Gary (6/5): Friendly service - Very friendly service
Hotel dated
- Gavin (8/5): A good, comfortable base for visiting or touring - A lovely house now hotel, very convenient location, and excellent service - we'll come again.
- Mantecagirl (8/5): Perfect location for my needs - As Sandown was my home base for my visit to IOW, I couldn't have chosen better. A two-minute walk from the train station, Chad Hill is on a quiet street about five minutes from the beach. The hosts were lovely, breakfast was nice and the room comfortable. My only complaint I that the shower lacked pressure and the hair dryer was so ancient it would have taken an hour for my hair to dry. Fortunately I decided that it was okay for my freak flag to fly and be curly. The price is right and I loved my stay.
- Michael (10/5): - Excellent we couldn't fault the service breakfast was excellent thoroughly recommend this accommodation, value for money.
- Debbie (8/5): our stay - Quiet area but too quiet...food ok hotel very dated old looking. Showere in room 10 slow rubbish water and shower cubicle too small to move inside. For some reason one tile each side where step into shower dangerous i cut foot nearly few times. Dint sleep as dogs stayed - bark through night...other than hotel old out date sandown nice shanklin gorgeous ....
- Martletman (6/5): So-so B&B - Overall a bit disappointed with this B&B. Rooms are small and poorly laid out, space being taken up by the on-suite. The on-suite toilet and shower room is tiny however, making turning around in front of the shower an effort. Very noisy shower when in use, as is the extractor fan.
The electrics in the room are cables run along the walls from the sockets to the bedside-lights / TV / kettle. Bit of a mess and could be prone to accidental damage.
Tables in dining room very crowded.
- David (8/5): Chad Hill Hotel Sandown IOW. - Accommodation a bit basic but clean. Breakfast very good. Freshly cooked. Friendly owners. Parking a bit tight.
- Anette (6/5): Nice Character Hotel - 5 minutes walk to the beach so a good location to explore.
Lovely people that runs it and they served a great breakfast in the morning. The owner greeted us with a lovely smile and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast is only served between 08.00-09.00 so you need to be up quite early.
The only 2 x negative things that I have to say about the hotel that the shower is NOT very powerful so it will take you a while to have a shower so don't try to rush it. The other thing was the hairdryer - so old that I have never seen anything like it. Took me ages to dry my hair and it kept falling apart and I nearly burnt my hand... Apart from that, it had a lot of character and was a lovely little hotel and I would definitely stay again. The end of the day, you only sleep there so you don't need a lot.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Complete Dump not a bargain a rip off - Absolutely diabolical. Do you bother to check premises that you advertise. Isn't even with a b and b status. Someone needs to check out electrical appliances they all connected to one extension lead situated directly adjunct to a kettle. Ensuite is size of cupboard shower is about 18 inches square and water came out at a trickle and stopped. We arrived at 2pm and there was no hot water until 7am next day. Ensuite door is a piece of wood attached to 2 pieces of plywood, has a huge gap top bottom and both sides and does not close. The bed was so hard neither if us slept all night and the pillows are like house bricks. Breakfast was meagre to say the least they hope to fill you up on cereal and toast. Yes we did complain to the management she was really sorry we weren't happy. We paid for 3 nights and left after 1 night consequently we are well out of pocket. Check out the properties before you advertise them this one is definitely bottom of the heap and needs Environmental Health to pay them a visit.
- Cyril (10/5): Ideal weekend break at Sandown - Its few minutes walk to the beach. The hotel is clean & the staff is very friendly. The english breakfast is very nice and we enjoyed it. The room is fine for three of us as a family. We enjoyed our stay, thank you for being so welcoming.
