Guest Reviews
- Tim (10/5): - Friendly staff, parking limited, food excellent. The family room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Games room with pool and billiard tables, dart board and more.
- Alan (10/5): Lovely Olde World stopover. - Lovely olde world pub-restaurant. Excellent food, both breakfasts and evening meals. This is a real heart of the community pub, with lots going on, including a Petanque match, when we were there. Check-in at the bar was easy. The service was very friendly and excellent throughout. A well stocked bar, including a local beer, 'Gem' by name and 'Gem' by nature. The en-suite double room was clean and comfortablebut you are better off relaxing in the bars downstairs, where there was two dining lounges and a dedicated sports TV room.Sitiuated in the historic, lovely village of Eastry, just over 10 miles from Dover.
- Jamie M R (10/5): Home away from home vibes - We've have never stayed somewhere that's made us feel more welcome.
The food is good.
The staff are lovely and go well out of their way to help and make you feel at home.
The locals are friendly.
What more could you want?
- Christopher (10/5): - Right from Check-in, Mary and her staff made me feel very welcome. Mary was very helpful at every turn even going above and beyond. The room was very good size and very clean. Perfect place to stay!
- Nick (10/5): - It was a lovely location and friendly staff and locals, who were easy to talk to and very engaging.
- Daniel (8/5): Friendly pub, cosy room - Check in was professional and friendly, bar staff showed me my room and explained everything well.
Room and bathroom are tired, but adequate. The bed was really comfortable. Overall cosy room. Pub is nice with lots of friendly locals and tourists. I stayed on curry night which was greay value for money. Nice home made style curries. Only shame was no TNT sports to watch the football.
In the morning breakfast was a good english breakfast. Only bug bear was the weak coffee. I had a flat white the evening before and it was dish water from a machine.
I would certainly stay again, food was good and staff are great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Warm welcome at the Five Bells - I received a warm welcome throughout my two day stay; service was consistently excellent and friendly. My room (the family room) was extremely spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean, equipped with everything I needed. I heartily recommend.
- Daniel (10/5): Excellent - Fantastic hotel, very friendly staff. Understanding owners who bent over backwards to accommodate my changing dates due to work commitments.
- Mindy (10/5): Visiting Dover - Another room found on the fly based on reviews and was a great find! Room was clean and comfortable. And although the bathroom was shared, they provide robes for your comfort. Breakfast is included & was cooked perfectly! Staff is friendly. Recommend staying here if you’re sightseeing around the Dover area.
- Ian (10/5): Excellent pub and accommodation - Accommodation, food, wine choice, staff were all excellent. Our room met our requirements. One small thing that we appreciated was that the bottom sash window had not been painted shut like so many others we've visted. Eastry is an excellent place to park your car and use public transport to visit Deal, Sandwich, Dover and Canterbury relieving the need to drive and find parking
- Sam (10/5): - Warm hosts and clean. Great food and pub atmosphere. Perfect for a one night stay
- Angelique (8/5): Classic local, in a lovely village. - It was a very clean, cosy room, and tastefully decorated. The hospitality tray was nicely displayed. While the bathroom (very clean and roomy) was private it is not ensuite; it required going into the hallway a short distance and up a step. Not a problem unless one needs night time visits. Luckily the light switch for the hallway was easily at hand.
The staff was very friendly, very together as a unit, and the whole pub is truly local and buzzing. Surprisingly, the pub noise did not filter upstairs, which felt very private.
- Lester (8/5): All good but no Wi-Fi - I have nothing to complain about apart from the Wi-Fi there is not any and it wasn’t me as I was travelling with colleagues.
When you’re on business away from Home, this is absolute necessary part of your stay.
- Mary (8/5): - Lovely, friendly welcome and service. A bit faded glory in our bedroom with uneven flooring. We did find the separate bathroom a bit inconvenient during the night. Otherwise good food and good value.
- Sharon (10/5): - The area and the pub b&b was lovely the staff were extremely friendly and professional the locals who used the pub were very friendly and helpful would highly recommend a stay there thank you so much
- Alex (8/5): - Genuine old pub realky good food and pleasent place to stay.
- Charles (8/5): - Friendly place. Made me relaxed.
Unfortunately very limited parking and WiFi not great.
- RICHARD (10/5): - Really lovely stay with great food and service. Highly recommended.
- William (10/5): Fantastic stay! - Fantastic stay! Parked out front, nice room, very comfy bed, no noise after pub hours, staff friendly as you could ever want!
Had a great sleep and woke up to a fantastic full English included. Great gas/boiler shower in a separate bathroom a few feet away (only the twin I believe has a separate bathroom), and even gowns provided.
Food was great, and very happy they had some 0% beers and cider and gin, as I’ve given up booze lol. A real gem of a place.
- Gordon (10/5): Exellent Accommodation First Class Staff. - Superb well run pub great helpful staff good food and drinks very clean and comfortable bed good Wi-Fi.
- Gordon (4/5): Basic accommodation - Very basic accommodation.Bed was not very comfortable. Duvet too small so kept on falling off in the night.Bathroom was a short walk down the hall which is not great late a night. I usually do my homework on places to stay when I am working away from home but this got past me. I received an invitation to review the place before the Hotels.com review invitation came through and received a phone call from the owner to question my review and offering an upgrade the next time I stayed. Never experienced that before.
- Nigel (10/5): Convenient for Dover - We stayed at The Five Bells as a last minute arrangement to avoid queues at Dover Ferry Terminal. It was a great choice, easy access to Dover and a really warm welcome from the staff and landlady. We had a nice evening meal and breakfast too.
- sean (10/5): Would we stay here again? - Yes - If you want perfect this isn’t it, but if you want to stay in a historical traditional village pub with wonky floors, low door to bump your head then this is it. The checkin on arrival was very good, welcoming and easy. We were shown our double room which wasn’t grand but ideal for us and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. Although we could hear noise from the pub below until closing time it soon became very quiet - we had two excellent sleeps. The landlady Mary made us feel welcome and cooked us a great English breakfast on both days and Sam was an excellent member of staff at check in, behind the bar and serving our dinner. Being a local pub it was kitted out for many social activities. The menu for dinner was varied and on both nights we had excellent cooked meals. Parking was limited onsite but free parking is nearby. We would definitely stay here again.
- Leo (10/5): - Lovely place to stay if you are ever in the area... Mary does a great job of pampering her guests... Having traveled the globe , i would highly recommend this establishment
- Jonathan (10/5): - Lovely country pub, comfortable stay, friendly and helpful staff, good food, quiet. Couldn't be happier.
- Jerry (8/5): Pub with character - Excellent venue & friendly service.
- Lee (10/5): Businss Trip - Fantastic overnight stay while on business in the area, friendly staff, good nights sleep and excellent food and drink.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Overnight stay - Very friendly and helpful staff and good procedures in place to adhere to Covid-19 regulations. However, the room was basic and very shabby with paper and paint peeling off the walls (despite the literature stating that the place had recently undergone a refurb). Breakfast good. We expected a bit more for the price we paid.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly & helpful staff. Lovely well stocked bar with great beer! Excellent evening meal & breakfast!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It’s the village pub with just 3 rooms. Comfy and old but with plenty of character. Slept above the bar but wasn’t disturbed.
- Robert (10/5): Highly recommended - very comfortable and an extremely friendly and helpful welcome.
- Rosemary (8/5): Old pub with comfortable rooms a great breakfast. - Although it is a very old pub, it had a nice atmosphere, the service was very good and the staff very friendly. Our double room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our three night stay. The breakfasts were very good.
As it is in the next village to our daughter we would definitely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice location, very tradition pub, great food served and busy, rooms very basic, comfortable beds, for the price cant complain.
- Richard (10/5): Superb stay near Deal - Our three night stay at The Five Bells was superb. I would recommend it to anyone planning to stay in the Deal area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Grea value for money! - Really lovely little inn with a great breakfast!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Wonderful staff, very homely, Excellent position in the midde of the village. It was lovely to have a game of Darts ans poil
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast. A proper old fashioned pub in the middle of the village.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice friendly pub close to Sandwich great for an overnight stay if in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Accommodation, food and staff were excellent. What's not to like?
- Freddie (10/5): Thank you - Lovely place, lovely atmosphere.
- William (10/5): - A very warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Good value, worth a stay
- Kenneth (10/5): Highly recommended - Nice warm welcome clean & comfortable, lovely breakfast cooked to order, great place to stay.
- Mark (10/5): Awesome pub with accomodation - The pub was built in 1675, it's got stacks of history and a lovely landlady Mary. Very clean rooms and bathroom, full and tasty breakfast. Staff are super attentive.
- Maureen (10/5): - We had a lovely time, hospitality, food and room was all to our satisfaction. We really enjoyed our stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): I
The Five Bells - very helpful staff and a great location to explore the area
- Jackie (10/5): Five bells - Friendly welcome at the 5 bells staff and locals friendly.
Old building with wonky floors which add character room nicely decorated and a comfy bed. Like all places i stayes this week the pillows were a bit flat but a good sleep was had so nothing much of a problem, A little obsevation. You cant fill the ketle in the sink in the bathroom sink is too small! you have to use a glass. Tea tray well stocked but with cups and mugs dint need both but was nice to have a mug.
Breakfast was very nice well cooked and fresh and plenty of it thank you all at the 5 bells
- Gordon (8/5): The freindly Five Bells - This is a little pub with three rooms. I've stayed twice now and for my visit, it is convenient and great value.
The rooms have been clean and comfortable although the showers can be a bit tricky with their temperature controls and can get very hot. There is a warning about this but I'd be careful with your kids in them!
There is some parking out the front and wifi in the pub via the Cloud service but I had little use as the system was poor. There was a good 3G/4G signal so I managed with that.
The menu is typical pub fare with big portions at very reasonable prices. It isn't the most inspiring choice though! However, it was nicely cooked and tasty.
You get a very warm and welcoming greeting on arrival and it's a pleasant place to stay with some good beers on tap.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Five Bells B&B - Good hearty freshly cooked breakfast. Great shower. Although next to the road it was quiet without much traffic noise. Did not eat there in the evening. Good position to travel north and south. Nice cycling area.
- Valerie (8/5): Nice old b and b in historic area - Very friendly staff. Lovely old Inn and very nice room. Perhaps a little noisy on road as at front of hotel.as had to have window open due to hot weather
- peter (6/5): Village life - Old pub (1675) done up and well
Maintained in smaller village. Clean and comfortable with plenty of character. Good staff and easy parking. Nice location in south east. Good food. If you are tall - look out for the traditiobal low doors. Ive got a lump on my head for not being observant.
- Paul (10/5): A great country inn - Great food and lovely rooms. Very popular with the locals who welcome travelers who wish to join in. Say hello, and join the fun.
It is a great example of a small English country pub and inn.
If it is busy relax and enjoy the fun, the small staff do well keeping on top of things (and with a smile) but sometimes there is a wait. I was amazed that they were able to keep everything straight even on the busiest of evenings. When it isn't really too busy the service is excellent and staff are very personable.
The rooms are a good size and the ensuite had a good size shower. They are very clean and well dressed.
Only unfortunate thing is the limited parking but they do a good job keeping spaces for their guests. Had to use street parking nearby once but was able to move into a space within an hour.
I will go there again and recommend it to friends.
- Graeme (8/5): Good stay - Very nice stay . Room very comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Menu for dinner had plenty of choice & good value. A good pub.
- Raj (10/5): Pub built in 1675 with a bed and breakfast on top. - Quiet village , a short car ride or bus ride away from Dover, sandwich and Deal. Pub is not too loud and has mostly regulars and locals ( we were there on a spring day and a couple stopped by for a beer taking a break from gardening at 3 pm). There is parking for a couple of cars in front.there is a small play area for kids and outdoor seating in the pub.
Rooms are pretty large for the price and are clean. The building itself is very old , but plumbing etc are all modernized.
- john (8/5): stay at five bells Lovely, helpful staff - Lovely, helpful staff , nice full cooked breakfast ,comfortable stay . The areas around eg deal , sandwich are lovely, great way to unwind from busy city life.
- GaryM (10/5): Excellent hotel - Excellent stay, good location. friendly staff and good food, good selection of Ales.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Highly recommended - My wife and I stayed 2 nights while in the area for a friends wedding. We had a great time and were very well looked after by the team here. The comfy bed, powerful shower and the very clean bathroom were particularly impressive. The pub itself is a charming venue with good beer and a friendly atmosphere. We both had the cooked breakfast that was included and it was delicious. Our special requests such as early check out were handled very well too. Certainly worth checking out!
- melissa (10/5): Nice place in a cute town. Lovely English pub. - Nice place in a cute town. Lovely English pub. Owner is friendly and welcoming. Nice cooked breakfast available
