- Oliver (5/5): Not even close to a 5 star experience - Clean, safe property in a nice area (Gulshan). Late checkout provided which was kind - hotel was close to empty though! Friendly security at front door. Free water in room which was great 1) Breakfast options limited, 2) Very expensive for what you get, not a 5 star hotel, 3) Very expensive Diet Coke, lunch and dinner, 4) No chairs/sunbeds around pool like photo so I couldn’t use, 5) Rigid staff apart from restaurant manager Yasmin, 6) Two men at restaurant laughing at me when I had heat stroke symptoms at lunch after a Dhaka day trip - it’s not professional and shows no care. Very disappointing, 7) Bill incorrect at dinner with add one such as bottle of water (which was free from room)

The bad is very comfortable, and the atmosphere of the hotel is really wonderful. The pool and the gym was an added bonus. I have decided that when I come back again, this is where I will stay. You cannot go wrong with this little gem in the middle of Gulshan, Dhaka.

I have to say it is the best place I have stayed yet in the city. A small ‘boutique’ style hotel, tucked away on a quiet side street that gives you a peaceful rest from the usual hustle and bustle of Dhaka. All the rooms I have had have been well appointed, modern and clean. The rooftop gym and the pool area are a bonus and a nice place to relax at the start or end of each day. The staff at a hotel can really make a difference and all the people I have encountered here are polite, courteous and friendly with a genuine happiness and smile on their faces. Most definitely I will stay here again when next back in the city

Yeasmin the coffee barrister at the restaurant on the 8th floor made delicious coffee with an artistic and frothy milk. All staff from the restaurant, the pool area, the reception area, the guards outside, and the room cleaners were exceptionally helpful and delightful to talk with: super service minded in a ‘good’ way: (not too much just right- foreseeing our needs and responding proactively! The rooftop sauna, steam bath and pool were perfect, especially coming back after busy day of work.

Very friendly and helpful staff who help you before you even ask. I can't wait to go back. Oh and the foam art on my morning lattes was always so lovely.

- ORDtoAnywhere81 (2/5): Good Stay Ruined By Bad Employee - Overall the hotel is pretty good - modern amenities, comfortable bed, and located in a nice area of Dhaka. I enjoyed my stay from the standpoint that the hard product was exactly as I expected. It’s an updated, chic option in Gulshan area. A bit far from tourist sights (which I what I was in Dhaka to do) but with the traffic in Dhaka you’re far from everything in theory! Where things failed to meet expectations was the soft product - the service offered by the staff at the hotel. I had a few small bumps at the beginning and middle of the stay and then one horrible experience during check out that left me absolutely unable to recommend this property. When I arrived at the hotel it was prior to check-in time and I was informed that I’d need to pay a fee to check in early. Not a big deal for and very standard across the world. The staff struggled to explain the cost of the early check-in and what was included, at various times indicting that if I wanted breakfast included for the day it would increase the cost and then minutes later telling me breakfast was included. Confusing, but not the end of the world. Unfortunately about 45 minutes after checking into my room the city was struck by a magnitude 5.6 earthquake that rocked the hotel. Not once did the hotel staff contact anyone to see if they were injured and no information was given at all. 5 people died and 100 injuries were reported in the city and roads were closed to assess damage and to repair collapsed buildings/structures. No staff members at all ever mentioned the quake, how it would impact the hotel, safety for aftershocks, etc. Again - not horrible but disappointing to have such a major issue completely ignored by everyone. My final issue, and the biggest one I have with the service at the hotel, occurred during check out. I had arranged for the hotel to transport me to the airport for my flight, which they charged a flat fee of $25 USD. Uber would cost around $4-5 USD but I like the efficiency of knowing my transport is there and ready to go. I confirmed with the agent the evening before what time pick up would be for my 10:45AM flight. He told me 8 AM and I went to sleep almost immediately after. I woke up and started to prepare for my departure when the phone rang at 745AM. It was a front desk agent named Monjur asking me where I was since my pick up was at 7:45AM. I told him I thought there may have been a miscommunication as I thought it was 8AM and wasn’t ready yet but would rush. He continually spoke in an aggressive, annoyed tone asking why I wasn’t in the lobby and how I was late for my departure. Despite trying to remain calm and explain the mix up and emphasize I was coming as soon as possible he remained curt and abrasive. I threw my things together and headed down to the lobby right around 8AM. When I walked up to the desk to hand over my key Monjur didn’t say hello or good morning, he simply took my key and started throwing papers around his desk area. Slamming drawers that he opened to hand keys and a cell phone over to the driver of the hotel shuttle. After a few moments of silence he printed a document with my charges and placed it on the counter. I looked it over and saw at the bottom if had an area for a signature - I grabbed a pen to sign the paper since the charges were correct when Monjur snapped “No! Not there. I’m just showing you. I’ll print a credit receipt to sign.” He provided no information about what he wanted me to do at all so to rudely snap irked me quite a bit. I patiently waited in silence while he printed a receipt which he wanted me to sign, which I did. In silence still he folded up a receipt and placed it in an envelope for me. He then held the envelope out to me with a sneer and said “You’ve made quite a tight schedule for yourself by being late. Now go.” No goodbye, no questions about how I enjoyed the hotel or my stay, just snark and annoyance. If you look at my previous reviews of hotels I’m generally pretty easy going and am almost always happy with my stays. I don’t let much bother me, even when I think a property could do better. Bangladesh was the 96th country I’ve visited and probably over the 200th hotel I’ve stayed in over the last 25 years. Monjur is by far the rudest employee I’ve encountered working in hotel hospitality. I would have spoke to a manager on site but was of course heading to the airport immediately. Overall - the hotel itself is lovely and I quite enjoyed staying there. Comfortable bed, nice bathroom, great location in Dhaka for a relatively less stressful area of the city. Service was hit or miss on a few things with nothing major until the end. If you stay here and you see someone wearing the Monjur name tag - be warned though. He has not problems being openly rude and aggressive with a customer if he thinks they’ve done something he doesn’t like.

The dinning experience gets better with view of the Dhaka skyline. They have a wonderful buffet breakfast ranging from local to intercontinental options. The live egg station and barista brewed coffee add a great experience. Great place for business meetings and hangouts.

I got an upgraded room, which was a plus! Staff here have world class level of hospitality - polite, professional and kind, not to mention to variety of food. I really did enjoy my stay here, I will be returning for sure. If you are looking for a 5 star (its officially rated as a 4) hotel experience at pocket friendly cost, The Way is your place!
