So our cases remained on the floor in the cramped space between the bed and walls. A serious tripping hazard for two late 70 year olds. Not what we expected for a 5 star hotel.

- Tanvi (10/5): Amazing, 10/10, would definitely go back - Friendly staff, really comfy bed, beautifully decorated room with ample natural and artificial lighting, central location with amenities and attractions within easy walking distance, breakfast was incredible. Staff provided you with a map and key information at check in, and provided you with parking advice prior to arrival to two close parking spots. We couldn't get the heating to work when we first got into the room from the cold outside but actually the feather-down bedding was so cosy that we didn't end up needing to - we were warmed up within minutes.

The breakfast room was lovely, the cooked breakfast was delicious. Come to Shrewsbury a couple of times a year & would definitely choose to stay here again. Not sure there's anything! Maybe a coffee machine!

Receptionist was so friendly and explained everything. It was a little noisy and needed something to stop light coming from the window on the door into the room in the morning. Shower not very powerful. Even though there was a few issues, we would definitely stay again.
- Kim (9/5): Quirky hotel in a central location with convenient parking nearby - The hotel was named after Charles Darwin as he was born in Shrewsbury. I liked the theme throughout the hotel - Galapagos wallpaper, monkey table lamps etc. - all. The two lounges and honesty bar were a lovely touch. The breakfast room was great and overlooked the garden. The hotel was very central and the pay and display car park was a couple of minutes walk away. The breakfast was exceptional. The bathroom products were first class. The garden was well maintained. We would stay there again as the location was great. The only downside was the size of the room. It was quite small, which was disappointing giving the cost of the room. It was a walk up a hill to the town so it the location may not suit some people.

Hairdryer, iron and ironing board were supplied in the room. The garden seating area was lovely. We stayed on a room only basis so can't comment on the breakfast. The only downside is there is no lift so might be an issue for anyone with mobility problems.

Loved the incredibly stocked honesty bar. Central location. Lovely lady on reception. Wish I could have taken my dog to the lounge to enjoy a coffee in the warm. Dogs only permitted in garden rooms.

While the property is listed as dog-friendly, pets are not welcome in the main house areas, lounges and bar area, which meant we couldn’t use some of the best facilities

Although the rooms are dog friendly, you aren’t able to take them into the main building where the restaurant & lounges are. We were therefore disappointed that we couldn’t make use of the lovely lounges with our family who were also staying. As our dog gets anxious when left alone, we couldn’t eat breakfast together, which was a shame.

- Jill (7/5): Ok, great location but wouldn’t stay again - Location very good, reception and communal area very nice and quirky. The garden was beautiful too. Staff were very nice too. We stayed in a garden room and not informed they were dog friendly. 2 days into a 3 night stay and wheezing, itching profusely. I’m asthmatic and allergic to dogs. My husband mentioned this to staff who assured him all the rooms had been sanitised after dogs and that there hadn’t been any in that room for a while . Room was a bit tired looking and definately not hoovered round on any day. Shower was hot but very poor supply. Too many items of chunky furniture in such a small room. The bed was ok, very good quilt. Breakfast extortionately priced at £22 pp. The hotel was a 5star AA rating but it definately wasn’t. I can only comment on my room and I’ve stayed in much superior rooms for much less.

The little lounge with honestly bar was fabulous, and such a nice touch. In fact, all furnishings throughout the hotel are gorgeous and the staff are so helpful. The breakfast was lovely, good selection but - and only a small point - the croissants were either under baked or hard. Maybe just a bad day at the bakers! The rest was super.
