Guest Reviews
- Cory (2/5): - This location is closed Sept 22.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The location of the hotel is very convenient since it is near the airport.
- Jeffrey (2/5): Stuck at the airport? Stay at the crowne plaza! - We arrived at 9 pm due to a 12 hour layover. She would not honor the rate on hotels.com we tried to explain in our unfortunately broken Spanish and she would not budge. She finally gave us a very small room (only 1 ft of space at end, and on one side of the double bed) for $2 over the posted rate, with no blanket or towel. We took it because we didn’t feel like we had a choice.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This a big, beautiful, and good property, but is dirty, and has not some stuff in the room (soap) and have Spiderwebs and not clean the bathroom
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We booked and paid well ahead of time through Travelocity. We arrived at midnight, and were told there was no room for us, but that to make up for it they had reserved a room at another hotel several miles away. When we arrived at the other hotel at 1 am, we were quoted a price double to what we had paid at the first! I hope Travelocity makes good in this fiasco and we are reimbursed for the first hotel and for the difference in price!
- Gabe (6/5): - Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. However, A/C was not working and there was no hot water, the door to the balcony was not locking, and there was no soap or shampoo available (there's no problem with this, however, it was not noted that it was necessary to bring these toiletries).
- Cathy (6/5): - No English spoken by the fellow at the desk although he tried his best and helped us order food from a local restaurant. He didn’t know his to use the Visa machine and we had to wait till his boss came on duty later in the evening. Room was small and price was higher than listed on website with a couple of extras added in. Shuttle to the airport was more than we had expected considering it was so close. Hard to argue when you need a place for the night.
- Alan (2/5): Worst "hotel" experience ever - Dumas Villas is not really a hotel. It is more of a boarding house, staying in spare rooms of a house with shared facilities. It is in a very seedy area where one would not feel safe venturing out.
However, what really marks this out as being a place to be avoided at all costs is the lack of honesty and the aggressive attitude of the owners/management together with the lack of cleanliness.
We had booked online in advance for a room at a fixed price. However, as soon as we arrived, before I had even given my name or booking reference the receptionist/manageress, said that that room which I had booked was not available and that we would have to pay a lot more for a room. She got very aggressive when I said that we were entitled to have a room at the agreed price and started making disparaging remarks that my wife and I clearly could not afford the increased charges. My wife asked whether she could be allowed into a room whilst the issue was being sorted out as she was ill, suffering from a stomach bug, which was true. The Manageress called her a liar for claiming to be ill. Only when I told the woman that I was a lawyer did she allow give us a key, to a room which smelled and was so filthy that we slept in our clothes on top of the bed.
Next morning another couple had agreed a price with the manager to run them to the airport. When we asked if we could share the car he demanded nearly double the price. The couple told us that their room also smelled and was dirty.
- David (8/5): Bueno, bonito y barato!!
Fica a 6 minutos a pé
Excelente custo-beneficio.
- Ev (4/5): - What I like? It was quiet. The attendant was rude and very unfriendly
- Ashley (6/5): - The taxi driver and I had a hard time finding this place. Okay place to just spend the night. The rooms are clean and comfortable enough. They provide towels to use but they shed lint. There is hot water which was wonderful. Be aware that if you reserve a room on Expedia, when you get there they may say that that deal is booked and will require you to pay more. It was supposed to be $25 for a private room with private bath but when I arrived, the woman at the front desk said they were all out of rooms for that deal. She put me in the shared room with shared bathroom, asking for $35. Luckily, no one else was staying in the shared room that night so I had it to myself. It was a bit loud downstairs at night as the family uses the kitchen area and there are kids. I had also paid them for a taxi to the airport in the morning for $15 but you can take a taxi or uber for about half the price but I found out after I had already paid.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - They did not pick me up at the airport as confirmed both by phone and whatsapp.
Before booking, I took the time to make sure they had the shuttle service available to pick me up at 2:00am. They were very nice both on the phone and Whatsapp and I do have the written confirmation for the pick up.
Some hours later, I am in Panama waiting... I write a message saying my exact location to receive and answer saying “transportation is not available, take a cab.” Hell NO! That wasn’t what we agreed to before booking with them. The shuttle was key on my decision.
I found it extremely disrespectful and negligent.
FYI a taxi driver at the airport told me this place didn’t have airport shuttle transportation right before I wrote to Dumas to send my exact location.
This makes me believe they use the shuttle as a hook to get the booking and from there many people I guess just takes the cab.
As a female, solo traveller I was not going to do that in a country I do not know at 2:00 am!
Horrible
The worst decision that can be taken !!! They promise you a price in this way and when you arrive it's worth almost double. Also if you pay with a card they charge 10% more.
- Kimberly (10/5): Great Place! - Amazing!
- Kimberly (10/5): Amazing - This hotel goes above and beyond for your service. We stay here with a group from Phoenix Arizona. We come every year and look forward to our visit with the people from Dumas Villas. Its family owned!!
- Paulo (2/5): The worst hostel that we atayed. - the worst, when I arrived there was no water, not to take a shower or drink, I stayed next to a windowless laundry, the employee wanted to charge more than the reserved, I thought the airport was good and I could not sleep, the 5 o'clock children shouting. The worst hostel that we atayed.not recomend find another.the site hotel should remove this clue.
- Rick (4/5): You don;t even get what you paid for. - You don;t even get what you pay for. Located in a sketchy neighborhood. Reservation not found??? Not transparent with fees. Charged $15 for the 'shuttle' black econo box car from the airport. Villa to airport by uber is $4.95. Mention uber to Lady Dumas and you will get a lot of biased negative comments. Dirty, dusty, tv not working. No towels for a shower. No wifi signal in my room. Lack of security. Front gates and back door to villa always open to anyone. Room door lock could be easily jimmied. One star for being near a nice mall and airport.
- stefan (4/5): Everybody forget's something - Did not ask the hotel to pick me up, I should have because I was marked at the airport, and imagine telling me he was a taxi driver tried to play me for the fool and list off I taxi company from my old city, yellow. After having a smoke, I went back to the terminal and found a legitimate taxi through, taxi helper people with and I D provided to them from the airport. When I showed up at the hotel they didn't even know about my reservation through Expedia. I was told I would have a smoking room, I did not get one, I had to wait until midnight to get my room. I was too tired to argue. Manager was very friendly!me with one of my broken bags.
- Laszlo (10/5): Solo in David - It is definitely a nice place for the price.
Clean, comfortable, parking, and restaurant on site. My Spanish is very limited so I have use English. Unfortunately nobody spoke English while it is in the hotel description.
Other than that I recommend the place
- Joe (8/5): Closer to the airport than central. - Although somewhat difficult to find and late in the day rush hour inconvenience, it was a pleasure to arrive to a warm host, upgraded room, quiet, comfort and cleanliness. The to be set up with an early morning inexpensive and quick trip to the airport was the icing on the cake!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overnight safe with friends only. - If you’re a solo traveler I would recommend a different place. Many men staying here overnight with sketchy agendas.
The owner however was very nice. He let me know where everything was at and how to get a car the next day to the airport. Reasonable price to get dropped off at the airport.
A kitchen and fridge is available to share.
My room was not what I expected from the advertisment on the web. I was given a small room with a private bath behind the the house. Like a maids quarters. I was told A/C would cost $10USD more. I opt for none since I was only sleeping there a few hours. Made for a sticky night and a cold ars shower the next morning.
It is a good price for the location because the airport is so close. But if you stay make sure to have a friend.
- Pete (4/5): False advertising, added costs, strange atmosphere - We had a mediocre/bizarre experience at this hotel.
-The rooms advertised online did not match the size or quality of the actual rooms. They are clean, but the manager tried to us in the smallest room possible - which is downstairs and noisy where the owner's family sleeps/lives. Definitely request to see other rooms on the upper floors.
-We paid for an AC room but it was turned it off at 10am. The owner refused to give us the remote during our stay. Instead he kept it hidden and would come beep on/off the AC from behind our closed door. I kindly told him he needed to turn it back on, which he agreed to, however it was set to 26C (hot) and we couldn't change.
-The manager showed us one room, we requested to see another and then took the later. He said nothing about a price change, but upon check out asked for nearly double the rate we had booked the original room for.
-The manager's family lives downstairs so there's a constant flow of visitors. Although there is a kitchen, it is rare that you can actually get in to use it with the family constantly gathering there, all day, every day.
-When we were ready to pay at checkout, the hotel asked for more than we agreed on booking. This included more the room and laundry. He had said we could do laundry for one set price and then doubled that upon check out.
In Sum: Beware of price changes without consent! And hidden A/C remotes, even though you're paying for an A/C room!
- Abelardo (8/5): Nice and quiet - I stayed in this hotel because I had to do some business very early in the morning the next day. The place is quiet and well located, next to a large shopping mall. It helped me very much to find this hotel and I was very glad to find out that it was also a pleasing experience.
- Abelardo V (8/5): Quiet and well located near a shopping center - This is a comfortable hotel near a large shopping center in Panama City. It was a nice and quiet stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice cheap hotel to spend a night - The bathroom was shared, the sheets didn't seem to be too clean. I didn't like that even though you can book thru expedia you have to pay cash and they don't let you know until it's too late. Overall it's a quick one night hotel so you don't have to sleep at the airport for long layovers, other than that, I don't see spending more than 2 days there.
- Jack (8/5): Need to arrrange your own ride from airport... - Driver is not reliable, never showed at airport. Owner and other staff are very helpful and friendly. Worked well for my purpose of a one day trip.
- THISEAS PENNY (8/5): NEAR TO AIRPORT, METRO, METRO MALL SAN ANTONIO - QUITE NEIGHBORHOOD, BEAUTIFUL GARDEN. ALSO THE WINDOW LOCK WAS BROKEN SO THE ROOM WASN'T SO SECURE BUT THEY WERE TRYING TO IMPROVE THE FACILITIES. THE SITUATION IT WAS A LITTLE BIT AMATTURE.
- Ajay (8/5): Nice house, great location, friendly host. - I thought it was a great stay. Nice house with great backyard, deck, places to sit and drink beer, enjoy weather, and view.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A bit difficult to find using the address due to lack of street signs but with written directions, it would be easy to find off the main drag, A good location for an overnight stay before flying out. the next day. A short walk to a big mall. 20 minutes to the airport early in the morning but likely double that in rush hour.
- lori (10/5): Amazing room - The room is breathtaking and the staff are fantastic. I never want to leave. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Nancy (4/5): Adequate for a night - The hotel handled airport pickup which was helpful. Unfortunately we missed our morning flight to PTY. I emailed immediately so the driver would not be sent. I don't know if he or she was as I never received a reply. I called the hotel in the evening when we arrived and they did send a driver.
The hotel is not really wheelchair accessible as there are 2 big steps up to the lowest floor rooms.A kind staff member land my husband lifted me and my wheelchair up those steps.
Panama is sweltering, even at night. The worker could not find our reservation so he put us in a room with air conditioning. There was none in the hotel lobby and he said that "basic" rooms did not have it either. It would have been far too hot to sleep without it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place near Tocumen airport, Metromall and Los Pueblos mall.
