Guest Reviews
- LS13 (6/5): Quirky place! - We booked a triple room on a booking engine as it didn’t make clear if doubles had a patio (they do). The room was in an enclosed courtyard with a large tree. All very rustic with lots of wood. It was split level with the double bed accessed via a steep spiral staircase. There was art on the walls and lots of nicknacks such as artists pencils and paints. There was ac upstairs and a fan plus fridge. A friendly cat came to visit- it felt like staying with an elderly eccentric relative! It’s clean and thoughtfully put together- so why only a 3? I actually feel bad saying it but we didn’t really like the room! It felt very dark, like you were in a cave. Also the spiral staircase was potentially lethal. We had to put all the lights on to carefully negotiate it when going downstairs to the toilet in the night. Old folk or little kids would have no chance. Maybe it’s a personal taste thing but to me the room just felt cluttered and a bit oppressive. The double rooms are more open without the private patio so may have been lighter. Location is good in the low key centre of Trat near the river. We stayed one night and that was enough.
- Sightsee25083581728 (10/5): Wonderful place - This is a wonderful place to stay. Every detail is placed with love at this creative pretty place.
The owner is a very nice and friendly lady that helps you with your booking for the boats to the island and with taxi organisations. I appreciate her help very much and i am happy i have choosen this place for my stay.
Best regards Natascha
- J142LMmarcoa (10/5): Best accommodation in Trat - Since 8 years now, I keep coming back to Artist's Place every year. The rooms are stylish, clean and located in a beautiful garden. Most tourists don't stay long in Trat because they are heading towards the islands and have no idea what the city and it's surroundings have to offer. The restaurant and bar of the Artist's Place is just on the other side of the little street next to the river with its walkway. If you are lucky you will see some monkeys in the evening. The accommodation is located in the city center and close to the temple.
The owners are very helpful and will give you advice what places to visit, also they have bikes for rent. It's worth it to stay a little longer than planned.
- 462oph_liea (10/5): What an amazing place to stay - Everything was great. We stayed last year 10 days and this year a week at Artist's place in Trat. It's great because you can rent motorbike, bicycle and canoe to have a look around. If you don't know where to go the owners will talk to you about fishermann villages, mangrove forests and waterfalls.
- Kalder123 (10/5): Fun and funky - We stayed one night, after a long bus journey from Seam Reap, to get a ferry to one of the Thai islands the next day. Loved it. It is bohemian and quirky, but also very comfortable. Indeed, we have had the best night’s sleep so far.
For those wanting a 5* hotel you will be disappointed. It’s is pretty much basic and rustic. The room though was clean and pleasant. The breakfast was also very good. The people running could not do enough for us, including let us stay a little longer on our room as we waited for a taxi.
The whole vibe is as the name of the hotel says - arty. There is a lovely mash-up of Buddhas, green plants, water features and then all sorts of things hidden away on the plants that you might find in an architectural salvage place, which are so trendy in London. There are even paints, brushes and paper left in your room, if you get inspired.
The same is true of the restaurant just opposite, also owned by the same people and where you check in. Inside, amongst books and ornaments is an old scooter. Outside, a classic AlfaRomeo from the sixties being done up. The dinner there was superb there.
A few minus points were that our aircon wasn’t great but she happily gave us a fan which did the trick. Also, the mozzie net over the bed is a must, as there are a few here.
All in all though, a fabulous budget place to stay.
- 462oph_liea (10/5): Perfect guesthouse - We stayed two weeks at the artist place and we did so much. Thanks to the great job of pisuay, her husband and the staff we could go snorkeling to the amazing Koh-Way island.
We also rent from them motorbikes, bycicles and canoe depending on where we wanted to go (mangroves, fisherman's village, beaches, temples, waterfalls, etc...)
The food is excellent but you can go eating at the market too.
Tips:Trat is full of nice bars, especially around the lake. Easily reachable by bycicle.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Ruhig, schön grün und liebevolle Details, familiäre Atmosphäre.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Love every aspect of the place! - We loved our stay at the Artist place! Unique fun decor, full of character. Lovely people .
- VinchelGB (8/5): Cute, comfortable, friendly - Really lovely helpful and friendly staff.
Rooms quirky with some nice touches.
door has a gap when it's closed but has an additional curtain and mosquito net so wasn't too much of an issue. The restaurant is just about 10m down the road and is really nice chilled area.
Shower isn't very powerful but water is hot which is good! short walk to nice night market and temple.
We would definitely stay again
- Jill (6/5): Beautiful garden and interesting objects of art. - Wonderful garden setting and very helpful staff but beds were as hard as concrete and room very small with no hanging facility.Great location, museum us closed on Mondays .
- chuck55London (8/5): Brilliant value - laid back bliss in Trat. - Trat is lovely and this little place is a really lovely stopover. I wanted to stay longer. The staff were unobtrusive, if a little uncharming, but the rooms were really pleasant and offer great value. A stone's throw from the night market, temple, spa, a nice couple of bars and the town life of a straight forward Thai working town. It's linked to a restaurant and bar across the road - which has a great VW Karmen Ghia hidden away by the way - and that's where breakfast is served. Laid back bliss in Trat.
- stevenfT1252FM (10/5): A work of art. - I'll start by saying it costs a little more than most options in Trat, but worth it for a night of relative luxury and calm. The rooms are all individually designed by the owner/artist. They are quirky and different. That aside they are spotless and beautifully presented. The rooms themselves are situated in a magically laid out garden, and the garden is decorated with an assortment of unusual pieces of folk art. There's also a few funky little chill out areas. One being a semi-open space with a selection of books to read. Breakfast is included in the price and is served across the street in the gardens of an old traditional Thai house. It's an oasis of calm. Highly recommended.
- 663LauraM663 (10/5): Lovely - Tucked away in a charming garden, the rooms are spacious enough and smartly designed, with a bathroom in the back. Lots of quaint and well thought touches: in our room the wash basin was an old, large aluminium pan. Breakfast is served a few steps diwn the same road, in the garden of Pier 112.
The price is amazing for the quality.
- 580sabsab (8/5): Nice slice of artsy - Stayed here for a night on the way to the islands. Easy to find near the Trat Hospital. Creative artistic touch around each corner. On a quiet street. Restaurant has a yummy touch. Room creative yet simple. Only have wooden shutter on window. Mosquito net a bit small but didn't need it as no mosquitos bothered us.
- CaroleMART (10/5): Nicely decorated rtooms - Artist's place offers a few rooms off a court yard/garden, despite the fact that the rooms are not bungalows but in a row they are quiet, equipped with air-conditioning and very well decorated, colourful and well maintained. The owners have good taste and have given the rooms a charming atmosphere based on art work. Breakfast was good and served at their kitchens a few yards down the road. They are well positioned in the town, in a quiet road but near the centre, the markets etc.
- primbonbon (10/5): Peaceful and comfort place for any single/couple traveler who need privacy and peaceful stay - It's peaceful and cozy place. Rooms and facilities are nice within affordable price. Anyway car rental is expensive for only 2 people. Bicycle is a good choice for traveling in this small and lovely city.
The breakfast here is quite ordinary, if you want to try best food here there is one place name Nam-Choke
which is near this place
- eugenem180 (10/5): What a great venue - We only had to stay one night butt would liked the opportunity of staying longer. The room was quaint and so different from the norm. The gardens were beautiful. Ate breakfast At pier 112 but this was no problem as it's literally meters down the road. The hotel is located in a very clean authentic part of That. Certainly would recommend the venue for people who like things to be different. For the conventional type of person best you look elsewhere. We loved the venue
- JensoLi (8/5): Creative rooms - Stayed here for only one night on our trip elsewhere. Really nice and big room, well-suited for families with hero factory gadgets as decoration and pencils etc. Maybe the extra sida was just a tiny bit too hard.
Bikes to use, close to the markets and a friendly, yet a bit amnesiac, owner. Would return!
- jittimal2014 (10/5): One of my favorite place - This is my 1st time in Trat..the Artist's place is my ideal B&B once I have seen picture in internet. I booked without any questions.. after I reached there, the owner Khun Jew gave me warm welcome to her hometown and her guesthouse. Once I saw my room.. my feeling is 'WOW!' I love all the details in my room.. I'm kinda picky person for place I stay but this place.. I have nothing to complain.
As said this is my 1st in Trat and next day I will ahead to the beach near Cambodia border..Khun Jiw and Khun Meow gave me the details of place to go. I can feel friendship and warm feeling during my staying here.
Thank you Khun Jiw for this wonderful place, I can feel the attention that you given to your geuesthouse and share to us.
Thank you Khun Moew for the walks and talk.. sorry that I left early without say good bye. But I will be back for sure :)
- jordandT8135BD (6/5): Homey, unique, cozy, and best food in Trat - Artist's Place is just off the central tourist hotel street in Trat, and easily walkable (5-10 minutes on foot) from the City Center, Day Market, and Night Market. The rooms are down the street from check in, and have a charming garden in front of them - and are clean and uniquely decorated. That said, our door didn't close tightly and our room had no mosquito net - and the floor in the bathroom/shower area was poorly designed and led to standing water that we couldn't clean up, which was pretty unpleasant. We still enjoyed our stay, but when we returned to Trat a few days later after exploring Koh Chang/Koh Kood we decided to stay somewhere else. We DID come back to the Artist's Place restaurant (called Pier 112) upon our return - it was the best place we ate in Trat. Great veggie-filled curries with great flavor.
- BarbaraJ20 (4/5): Very interesting and colorful BUT.... - At first it seems nice and well maintained, but the interesting decor provides a clever distraction from the underlying problems. ..the windows don't shut properly which means that mosquitos have a free access to your room 24/7 and yes they do enter and bite!! Next there is the lack of proper door that should separate the rest of the space from the bathroom itself... In addition the area outside and the cushions could benefit from an occasional wipe with a clean cloth...
The hotel is well located in Trat, bus so is dozen others better kept hotels. It is a shame as the place have a real potential but unfortunately the cleanliness is unsatisfactory.
- 329oliverw (8/5): artist place. - the hotel is quot nice. we loved the details in rhe rooms. the garden in front if the bungalows is so lovely.
many things are going ob around.
the hotel is close to the oldtown.
you can walk through the nightmarked un only 5 minutes.
the restaurant , opposite of rhe hotel belongs to the same owner.
but the food is average.
skip it- there alot more nice restaurants around. ore get your food at the market.
- LNitrox21 (4/5): Bed bugs - We stayed for one night. First we were shown to our room which seemed ok but nothing special considering the price. I had paid in advance but was told it had not been paid. I had to pay 850 bath. Then I was told I needed to pay another 300 bath because they had put me in the wrong room. Then I refused and checked the internet to find I had already paid. They apologized.
The final straw in the morning my wife was covered from head to foot in bite marks. She was wearing pj's so I guess they must have crawled inside. I spayed our backpacks and clothes so not to take them with us. Beware and consider there are many comfortable places in Trat much cheaper.
