• Brian (6/5): Reasonable 3 star hotel - Good service and ok breakfast. Towels rough. Bathroom not clean. Lounge area nice. Walls very thin. We could hear girls partying well after midnight. Too far to walk for meals - would help if hotel offered lunch and dinner.

A clean room with the ability to use a swimming pool as a bonus. The receptionist was accommodating considering my limited Spanish. A very nice stay!

I wouldn’t choose to stay here again though if I didn’t have my own transport, as it was about a 20 minute walk to the town centre area and 25 minutes to the seafront. I thought for the cost to stay here, the breakfast buffet wasn’t great quality and we were required to sit in a certain place rather than choose where you wanted to sit, which I hadn’t experienced anywhere else.

Cet hotel a un accueil très agréable, et trouve une solution à tous les problèmes. Pas de guide ? on vous en trouve un, pas de voiture ? on vous en trouve une, on vient vous chercher à l'aéroport, on vous ramène. De plus, l'hotel met en avant la culture de l'ile. Son nom vient du premier roi qui est arrivé. Je connais bien Tahiti et ses iles, et j'ai retrouvé la gentillesse des habitants de polynésie. Je recommande pleinenement.

Breakfast included fresh juice, fresh fruit, cheese, meats, toast, sweet bread and tea or coffee served at your table. The hotel is in need of refurbishment which they are working on. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I want to thank everyone at Hotel Hotu Matua for a wonderful stay.
• rentiadenissen (8/5): Utmost best service! - I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotu Matua. The ladies (and 1 gent) at reception were extremely efficient, always friendly, always did more than what was required. I'll go back there anytime and highly recommend it. The room was a bit rustic, but clean. The meals were good and the setting of the hotel is ideally close to town, yet quiet.
• Crizo1 (4/5): What we needed but Hotel needs updating - Upon our arrival at the airport a man from the hotel was holding a sign with my name on it, he had lei's for us & then he drove us 2 minutes to the hotel. That made us feel special! At check in, Ali was very kind, upgrading our room to a suite since the pool was under construction. We walked through many corridors to room 148. The room had two bedrooms (a full & 2 twins), a sitting area & a small bathroom. There isn't anything impressive about the hotel. There are four very thin walls, beds & a bathroom. You can hear people talking through the walls. We took cold showers several times as the gas to heat the water was out. There are cockroaches in the rooms, and you may see rodents if it rains. Be prepared. The mosquitos were not bad during our stay but the weather was chilly, rainy & overcast. There is a breakfast served but it's very limited; instant coffee, tea, juice, cereal, one type of cheese & one type of lunch meat, a few pastries, jelly & bread. You may request scrambled eggs but they most likely will not be cooked all the way. We knew going into our 3 night stay that The hotel is about a 15 - 20 minute walk to town. If you want to rent a scooter you must have a motorcycle license from your country. Cars are available in manual only & there are 4 wheelers/ATVs to rent. We only needed four walls & a bed, we were prepared for the conditions. This is a 1-2 star place. Everyone at the hotel was very kind, friendly and as accommodating as possible. Please note that you must buy the ticket to enter the Rapa Nui National Park at the airport before you get your luggage. You many only visit each site 1 time, you cannot return multiple times!
• miketinmouth (6/5): Very friendly but in need of refurbishment - The hotel is located just a few minutes walk from the airport and about 20 minutes from the middle of town. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and spoke good English - they took lots of time giving us good advice on getting around. The hotel itself is fine for the price - showers are warm and rooms clean, but it is need of a substantial refurbishment. A complimentary breakfast was also included with the room price and there was a free shuttle (the 800m) to the airport at 12.00 and 15.00, which was great as we're travelling on a budget.
• Gordokyo (2/5): Musty, noisy, and not much works. - This place supposedly had a "Garden View" but the hotel doesn't have a garden - just plants around a pool, of which I could see if I stood right next to the window and looked right, as mainly I was looking at a wall. And to that pool, large groups gather there and play music from their iPhones and talk loudly sometimes as late as 3am. No signs are warding these people off, and staff don't care. My room was super musty (see above "wall view") and the fan didn't work, so nothing got dry. Ever. As to be wifi, it would actually be better if the place didn't have it since it's so slow/cuts out it's a waste of time.

I'm the only one customer in here. Staff were really nice to me. Other people complain about this hotel and it makes me so sad. Price is good, room is clean (bath was a bit old but it's ok), friendly staff, how can you say it's bad. If you want to stay hotel with a big pool or great restaurant, you should go to expensive hotel. Overall, I like this hotel even people called old-hotel.
• Porsche911SC (6/5): In the ages, friendly staff, 15 min from Hanga Roa, but nice pool - 1st Hotel which was built in Hanga Roa ( 15 - 20 Minutes walk ) Nice big clean room, bath/WC – shower, electric etc. GOOD. Bed was arranged, room was cleaned every day !! Friendly owner and staff. you can rent his car 40$ p day, breakfast okay ( but every day the same), usable swimming pool (but a bid dirty) and palm trees. You get a airport transfere, when leaving. Prices are to high !!!!!!!!!!!! Most other facilities described in booking.com NOT useable. The Hotel is 40 years old and need maintanance, which is done, if there are guests or not. A bid noicy daytimes. All meal facilities 15-20 walk in Honga Roa. Basic BF, no fried eggs, not enough fruits. No small shop, for a bottle of coke or water you need to walk 15 Min .......
• Patrikru (2/5): You will get disappointed for sure! - We were unfortunate to have our hotel reservation being changed to this hotel, Hotu Matua. The hotel is located outside of the city at Easter Island, about 30 min by walk to the main street. Not a long distance, but problematic when the hotel does not even sell bottled water (nor food), and you must go to the city to buy this and other basic items as well!! The hotel is from the 70's and have not been renovated since then. All interior is old or broken, the pool area is dirty and the pool is green of bad water. We had to change rooms three times in order to get a fairly decent room with a working toilet and shower, and being able to close the front door. The room was really bad, but better than the rest of the rooms... :-( The bed, linen, pillows, and the floor was so dirty that you would get your feet black of dirt even when walking a couple of meters from bathroom to the bed. Even after extra cleaning of the rooms, the floor was really dirty. Beside this, there were both ants and cockroaches in the room (and in the bed and in our bags and clothes). We got a bottle with "Radar" when we complained about it... Do not stay at this hotel!!! And if you get "transferred" due to overbooking, demand to be richly compensated in doing so!
• NellyNonrev (2/5): So bad it is funny - We stayed at this hotel and despite being warned about how bad it was I still was not fully prepared for what greeted me. The rooms although large are horrendous with sheets as old as time and the worst bathroom I have ever seen. All rooms were infested with ants and cockroaches. No air condtioning and the thing that really made me laugh is that there is no such thing as an alarm call as the walls are so incredibly thin that as soon as one person wakes up, the whole block is up. I have no objection to a basic hotel room but this was oddly furnished with ancient bunche of dusty fake flowers and dirty looking rugs on the floor (these could at least be placed over the drains to try and limit the entrance of roaches.) Doors did not lock and the place was unclean. Honestly if I was returning to the stunningly beautiful Easter Island I would prefer to stay in the campsite on the island than this hotel. I was there on business and not paying the extortionate price but please for goodness sake if you are on honeymoon or a special trip please do not consider this hotel.
• WebsterWaco_Texas (4/5): Fair to Middling - I had booked into another hotel, but it was overbooked and I was put into the Hotu Matua and assured that it was an upgrade to a five-star hotel. I have no doubt that this hotel was once five-star in the distant past. It is a sprawling property near the airport, but the rooms are small. It has a swimming pool that is small but clean and gardens that, no doubt, were once beautiful but are now somewhat neglected. I was put into a room that smelled of mold and mildew, and when I opened the bathroom door, my lungs started to close up from all the black borders on the floor and walls. When I asked if I could have a room in which I could breathe, I was immediately given another room that was a great improvement, though it still smelled of mildew. There is no air conditioning, though I had a rusty fan. The sheets were threadbare, and there was no matress pad. The room was not clean, and it was cleaned only once during the five days that I was there; even then, it was not cleaned well enough to remove the flecks of toilet paper on the floor or the cracker crumbs that attracted hordes of tiny ants. There were mosquitoes, too. When I needed clean towels, I had to ask for them. After the first night, I had no hot water. There was seldom anyone in the office, and my second room did not have a telephone. Only the owner speaks a little English, but the two other workers I met understood my Spanish and were very kind and helpful. The Continental breakfast was adequate and the dining room relatively clean. A full breakfast costs $20.00 and lunch and dinner cost $28.00 each. A single room costs $120.00 per night. The hotel is located on a dirt road about 20 minutes from the village. All in all, the hotel was not very good, but I was told by others that it is not that bad for Easter Island.
• davigo (2/5): I've rarely been so bad - The Hotel is quite old and the rooms are without air condition, they just have a fun. The rooms are big but not clean, the sheet seems to have many many years. The shower (in a bathtube) is just a pipeline from the wall and its hard to mix hot and cold water. The swimming pool is not very clean (we didnt dare to swim in it). The butter they gave us for breakfast was probabaliy the cause of the diarrhea me and my wife had. We spent 3 long nights and we were very happy to leave. The only good thing is that it is close to airport so it easy to go away :) The price in the reception say 150USD for a single and 180USD for a double........seems quite too much for this place, we booked a package so we dont really know how much we payed exactly. Please dont go.......
